Playing mp4 format movies

when I try to play a video on QuickTime with the mp4 format, I get only a green screen. The vlc will not play mp4 as well, nor will the Mplayer OS X, or the Mplayer OS X 2. Any advice or suggestion would be so welcomed.

Have you installed the 3ivx or Divx codec? These are available for download just google for them.

Playing AVI Format Movie Clips?

Hi All,
I'm having problems when i try to play movie clips that i've shot using my digital camera.
I can save the clips onto iphoto and when i open one, it does play the actual footage but not the sound.
The other thing is that when i play each clip it opens in Quick Time which i guess is the default.
So how do i get the sound to play?

avi is a container format for a lot of different codecs, and not all of them are part of Quicktime. Installing Perian adds codecs to Quicktime and may help. Other than that, go to your camera maker's site and see if they have a codec you can download.
The other thing is that when i play each clip it opens in Quick Time which i guess is the default.
iPhoto has no ability to play videos, it simply catalogues and stores them. They are played in the QT player.

Get a legitimate copy of it instead of a bootleg. Or at least take the time to learn how to resample your stolen videos into a format supported by the phone instead fo posting "I'm a thief!" for all the world to see.

Cannot play mp4 format on nokia 95 8gb

Hello.
I am haveing serious problems when I try to copy to phone a mp4 movie file,all I get is an error message saying "problems with movie and con only play music" sounds play OK but no image.
Im converting AVIs to MP4 and this works on all other apps including WMV.Although some times it will work but extreamly random and not what I expected.
Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Im creating animations at 640x480 .saving as lossless avi,post working as avi lossless in Particle Illusion, saving as avi lossless and then to After effects also saving as avi lossless.
From here I go to soft and select mp4--mp4 and the appropriate sound codec.Now 20 of these upload well to my phone its the others that cause the problem.
These avi are require to be of the best possible quality as they will be put on sale. there fore the 320x 280 is insufficient for my needs.I have 20 quality mp4 on my phone at present and they work fine ,and work fine on collegues phone by Blue tooth transfer.So Imstill mistified.
Suggestion :maybe 3gp would give me the resolution and quality required,I ve uploaded 7 to my phone sucessfully since my first post today but the resolution is way to small.???

ITunes won't play audio with mp4 or mov video

I have wasted many frustrating hours now trying to get iTunes to play mp4 and mov videos but can't get any sound. A few months back it was working fine. Tried ALL the suggested fixes like uninstalling, updating and checking all the MIME/File boxes. When I went back to QT 7.5 and played the files independently of iTunes everything was fine. Quicktime 7.6, 7.67 & 7.7.1 do not play the audio independently or under iTunes and of course iTunes won't play video with QT less than 7.7.1. The same mp4 videos uploaded to my iPOD work fine. I currently have iTunes 10.5.3.3 installed on a Windows XP SP3 on an e-machines pc. Ideas please!!

I got this problem as well. Seems as soon as I moved to version 7.6 it stopped playing my video audio. My music plays fine, but my video audio is non-existant. It's not the file itself because I can play off my iPod (though not off my iPod through iTunes) just fine. I've done all the suggestions above and NOTHING has worked. Is there anything else we can find???

Using Flash CS3 the RTMP path to the .mp4 file is:
rtmp://localhost/vod/mp4:sample.mp4 and it works fine to play
.mp4's, mov's etc.....
In Dreamweaver CS3 it wont accept any combination of paths.
Unlike Flash CS3 which only requires the single String,
Dreamweaver has two boxes that need to be filled in: The Server URI
field and also the Stream Name field.
Like FMS 2, where you don't name the streams folder in the
url, Dreamweaver CS3 is looking for it ie the "media folder" which
has replaced the "stream" folder.
Where in Flash CS3 you have to use the convention
mp4:sample.mp4, Dreammeaver will not accept anything.
Any help here would be appreciated

I brought a sound blaster Audigy NX sound card, but the creative media player can't supoort this format. I could see the video, but no audio. Is there any way to let creative sound card to play MP4 format?

while reading i am getting most of hex charters are same except some places like instead of taking 00 its writing 0 and instead of f8 its writing fff.
AFP is a IBM format for printing. Somehow i will be able to read that but how to covert it back to that format and store to that file.

On your computer's iTunes if you select that video and do 'get info' (control-I), then on the popup on the Options tab change it's 'Kind' to 'Movie' from 'Home Video'.
To sync it to your iPad, connect the iPad and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (if you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), and then on the right-hand side use the Movies/Films tab to select and sync it to the iPad's Videos app.

Quicktime can do this.
Open the MP4 in Quicktime Player. From the menu bar, File >Export > select quality. The subsequent file will be saved as .mov
Alternatively, you can simply change the extension on the mp4 file to mov since the codec is the same.
*I should mention that .mov format is not DVD format (TS_VIDEO), and the DVD will not play in a DVD player, even if you successfully burn the file to it.

If these problem videos are already stored in your iTunes library, try using the iTunes built in convert to convert the file to an even friendlier iPod format. To use it, highlight the video in iTunes and choose Advanced -> Create iPod or iPhone version from the drop down menu. When the conversion process has completed, try syncing the new version over to your iPod Classic.

How to burn a dvd created in iMovie with OS Maverics - why is it in MP4 format and not .MOV?

I have created a movie in iMovie, shared it and put it in a burn folder on my desktop, then tried to burn it. It seemed to work (the hard disc was spinning and computer told me when it was finished) but when i tried to play it on my Macbook Pro (which is where I created it) it won't play. It is in MP4 format. iMovie used to create movies in .Mov format. Is this the reason it won't play and what can i do about it?

A. making a .mp4 file then putting it onto a DVD (via Finder/DeskTop) results in a DATA-DVD - which can not be played by any (to my knowledge) Standard DVD-Player.
But if inserted into a window-PC and using VLC-player - I GUESS that it will play just fine.
B. To be played in a Standard DVD-Player You need to do a VIDEO-DVD and to do this You need a DVD-Authoring program (it is a MUST)
C. Things that use to go wrong are:
- Using cheap brands of DVD discs as Memorex, NoName etc - I only use Verbatim
- Using DVD+/-RW - usually do not work, DVD+R usually works BUT not on older DVD-players - I only use DVD-R
- BURN SPEED - as faster as more BURN ERRORS (WORSE) - in iDVD - Best IS NOT BEST AT ALL - I never go faster than x4 - most often I use x2

If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.

What Julianne said at first about re-linking made perfect sense and I followed it easily, had actually already been there. But in my situation now, it didn't have any effect. The directory of folders which had already been added were still just as they were, and the outstanding balance are not in the desired position. And the folders which had been brought in earlier today when I clicked "synchronize folder", were still missing all the metadata.
Maybe this means I need to start over, and I'm fine about doing that that, but I don't know what it takes to accomplish that. I'm concerned now that any changes I make out of guesswork could only make the problem harder to resolve. It just feels to me like something I did at the beginning just wasn't right, and now it's a tangle.
Can you advise?
