Playlist Playback Questi

I have two questions about playing music from playlists:
) There seems to be a 00 track limit to populating the Now Playing list when I right-click on the playlist in the Sources pane and select Play Now. If I want all of the tracks in a 00+ playlist to move to Play Now I have to highlight all the tracks in the second panel (not sure what it's called), right-click, and then select Play Now. Is there a way to have all the tracks from a large playlist automatically transfer into the Now Playing list?
2) With WMP I can double-click any track in a playlist and the player plays that track and then continues on with the playlist from that point. With MediaSource Organizer (v 3.30.2), the player will play the track in the playlist that I have double-clicked but it then stops and I have to start all over from the beginning of the playlist. Is there a work-around for this?
Many thanks!

You were absolutely correct about my first issue ... I've increased the setting to accommodate my largest playlist (400 tracks).
From your response to my second issue I take it there is no way to start continuous playback from any point in a playlist ... is that correct? If I drag the playlist into Now Playing as you suggested doesn't it just start at the first song again?
Thanks again.
Well, you can drag the playlist into Now Playing and then double click your desired "starting" song in the Now Playing. It will start playing and then continue to the next track in the Now Playing. Will this meet your needs?

  • Can I disable display of titles & blue bar during movie playlist playback?

During movie playback from a playlist, my AppleTV briefly displays the name of each movie it encounters in the bottom left corner of the screen. At the same time, the blue scroll bar briefly appears.
Most of the time I like this behavior, but is there some way to disable it for when I don't want to see it?
For example, I'd like to be able to set up my AppleTV for a movie party and simulate on old-time drive-in movie program. I want set up a playlist to show clips of coming attractions, homemade commercials, the feature presentation, etc., and not have the titles and blue scroll bar flashing on the bottom of the screen each time the AppleTV encounters the next clip during playback. The flashing titles & the blue scroll bar are very distracting in this case.
If there is no option to disable this behavior, then I hope it gets added to the feature wish-list for a future update.

i don't believe there is any way to turn it off.

  • Smart Playlist playback issue

When I go to a Smart Playlist that I've created and hit play, nothing happens. I select the playlist, go to Shuffle, and again, nothing. My Genius playlists and On The Go playlists work directly from the Playlist menu when I press play. What gives?

"To play songs from a list - Select the list title (an album title or the title of a playlist, for example) and press Play/Pause".
This is direct from the user's manual but it doesn't work for my Smart Playlists. Is there a setting I need to change? Any suggestions? Please help!

  • Playlist Playback

I have a playlist that when selected will only allow me to play one song at a time instead of playing through the entire list. Of all my playlists this is the only one. I have created a new playlist with the same songs and get the same result. When I play one song in the list and click "next" it pops me back to the main music menu. When a song is selected it displays "1 of 1" instead of "1 of 15" or whatever. The problem appears to be with the particular songs in the playlist which are of one album. If I add 15 other songs to the list the iPod recognizes the new songs as part of the list and will display "1 of 15" instead of 1 of 25, etc.
Has anyone else ever had this problem and is there a fix for it?

Besides the items not having check marks, the other thing that causes this is when you have the items tagged as "Skip when shuffling" and you have Shuffle activated. If Meg's suggestion about the check marks is not the answer, then go to Get Info on one of the songs in the playlist and see it is tagged to skip when in shuffle mode.

  • Youtube playlist won't autoplay next video

Is anyone else having trouble with youtube playlist playback? At the end of a video, a thumbnail of the next video displays with "Up Next 1s" countdown timer frozen. I have to go back to the playlist and select and play the next track manually.

Thanks for the update. If you restored using the apple TV menu, I would next use iTunes to restore it which will completely reinstall the operating system on the device.
Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Restoring your Apple TV
This restore process requires a micro-USB cable (sold separately), a computer with iTunes, and a high-speed Internet connection. This will install the latest software and revert the device to factory settings.
Disconnect the power and HDMI cables from the Apple TV.
Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes:
Mac: Choose iTunes > Check for Updates
Windows: Choose Help > Check for Updates
    Open iTunes on your computer.
Connect your Apple TV to a computer (determine which Apple TV model you have):
Apple TV (2nd generation): Connect one end of the micro-USB cable to the back of your Apple TV, and the other end to one of your computer's USB ports.
Apple TV (3rd generation): Connect one end of the micro-USB cable to the back of your Apple TV, and the other end to one of your computer's USB ports. Connect the power cable from your Apple TV to a power outlet.
Click Restore Apple TV from the Apple TV summary page. This step may take some time, depending on the speed of your Internet connection.
Note: If you don't see the above screen in iTunes, it may be necessary to choose Apple TV from the upper right of the iTunes window.
During the restore, do not unplug any cables.
After the restore process completes and the Apple TV icon disappears from iTunes, disconnect the micro-USB and power cables (if applicable), then reconnect to your TV with HDMI and power cables.
Important: If the Apple TV remains plugged in to your computer with a micro-USB cable after restoring, it may loop back into restore mode. If this occurs, unplug all cables from Apple TV then connect with power and HDMI to your TV normally.

  • IPod Playback 'pause'

I have a brand-new 60Gig Video iPod, and all is well except one very BIG annoyance - during album or playlist playback, the iPod will start to play a track, pause, then restart the track and play. Its as if it doesn't have enough memory to queue the track and update the track information to the screen at the same time - it can't do both smoothly, so occasionally, playback gets 'hung up' while a screen refresh takes place.
This only occurs at the beginning of the track (when it first cues). It plays perfectly throughout the rest of the track. If the track is ever re-cued from the beginning once the track plays for a few seconds, the 'jitter' pause is gone, and the track plays from the beginning normally without the inserted 'delay' in playback. If a single track is cued and played by itself, the 'delay' is not present. This anomaly only occurs in albums and playlists where several tracks are played back-to-back.
Its very F*%%ing annoying, for a $400 unit not to play back tracks perfectly from start to finish. Most all tracks were encoded with the latest iTunes software, utilizing Apple Lossless encoding. A track that has a 'pause' inserted at the beginning of a sequential playback sounds perfect if played 'alone', so I have no reason to believe there is an issue with iTunes, the computer used to 'rip' the track, or the track itself loaded into the iPod. I would say the culprit has to do with buffer/memory management or the onboard playback software, but I am interested in some experienced feedback with any rememdy information. Thanks....
    Gateway   Windows XP

I had the same problem. I accidently discovered that if you turn off the EQ, the stuttering problem goes away.
You are right. $400 is a lot of money to lay out and then have to deal with that. I should be able to have EQ on if I want. But if you can get used to hearing everything flat, the stuttering jitter does go away if you turn the EQ off.

  • IPod playlists & crossfade playback

I have created some great playlists in ITunes using the crossfade playback function.
Does anyone know whether I can:
    1) Transfer the playlists to my iPod with the crossfade function intact?
    2) If not, any suggestions for how I can burn the playlist to a CD with the crossfade intact.
Any help gratefully received as the playlists are for my wedding in September!
    5th gen video   Windows XP

I know that you can't use the crossfade feature on the iPod, it's an iTunes only feature.
As to whether you can burn a cd with crossfade, I'm not sure. I know you can set the gap between songs to "none" but I don't think you can use crossfade.

  • Video playback in mixed (video and music) playlists

How can I set a video playlist to play both the songs and the videos (not just the audio from the video)? My 5G ipod would allow both video playback and songs from the video playlist menu. On my 160g classic, I only see/play the videos on the mixed playlists from the video playlist menu.

The 3ivX codec is in your quicktime library folder, normally: root/Library/QuickTime, but I don't think, that Apple encodes their movies with an unsupported codec. Maybe there is another unsupported codec in your library that creates the iTunes-stuttering or the reason for your problem is completely different. I paste here the content of my library folder. If you have anything else in your folder, quit Quicktime Player and iTunes (if they are running) , remove the plug-in and try your movie again in iTunes. Hope, this helps.

  • Playlist- disable shuffle and remember playback position?

Hi, I dont know if you can do this but I have one playlist for audiobooks that i have via Mp3's and some radio shows i've recorded.
At the moment I have some apple scripts i downloaded to do batch 'remember position' and 'skip shuffle' settings, but is there anyway or script i can get to automatticly set any mp3 dropped on to a given playlist to give them these settings?
    Thanks
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

Yes... I use mine (1st Gen and 2nd Gen shuffles) exclusively for audiobooks from various sources. I ALWAYS make sure that they are set in GetInfo>Options to "remember playback position". I listen daily and often pause, turn off then on and resume during that listening period.

  • Issues with video playback, messed up shuffle mode with playlist sharing

I have a Mac (10.4.7) and a PC (XP SP2)... both are running iTunes 7 downloaded on September 12. All of my media is on my PC, and I do playlist sharing with my PowerBook across mu home network. A few issues with iTunes 7 that didn't exist for me in iTunes 6.0.5:
    - Video playback is like multicolored TV snow. This happens on my PC as well as when the video is shared to my Mac.
    - When sharing the music to my Mac, and I'm listening in shuffle mode, many times the same song will play twice in a row.
    - I've only had this happen once so far (in the last 24 hours), but again I was listening to music shared to my Mac. One song played, then started to play again for the second time in a row. The song played for about 15 seconds, then jumped into another song. After that song was over, it jumped back and played the last 15 seconds of the previous song, all while having a completely different song highlighted in iTunes with the track position set to 0:00. It was very, very odd.

  • Script to mark playlist as "remember playback position"

Does anyone know if it is possible to make a script that will mark a specific playlist, or at least a selected range of items, as "remember playback position" and "skip when shuffling"?
I have a few recorded radio shows that are added to iTunes automatically through "iTunes Folder Watch" but as it currently stands I must now go through the new ones every day and mark them as noted above.
Surely this can be accomplished through the iTunes Scripting Interface? I imagine it is just that I am not a programmer and able to write one.
    Suggestions?

    ??????
I'm gonna try and double up the ??? and see if that works.

  • Getting playlists to sync and remember playback position

    Hi --
Is it possible to create a playlist where all the items in that playlist have the "Remember playback position" ticked, such that both ipod and itunes sync up the playlist position when connected?
I've tried this, and for some reason even with "Remember playback" chosen, whilst individually inside each of itunes and the ipod the position of the tracks will be remembered when syncing up ipod/itunes will not 'rationalise' the position in the way in which it seems to be able to do with podcasts.

I have a smart playlist for all of my Mac podcasts. It's set for anything where genre is podcast, "mac" is in album or name, play count is 0. As soon as I've listened to one podcast, it drops off of my playlist (at least once I've navigated at least one level above the contents of the playlist.
Are you trying to create a playlist with podcasts from 1 subscription or several subscriptions? If 1, then you'd put the name of the podcast "album" . If several, you could place something in the "comments" section of the get info window. For example, you could even put in "playlist one" into the comments section of each podcast that you wanted in that playlist. Then when you set up your smart playlist options, choose "genre" is "podcast", "keyword" is/contains "playlist one", "play count" is 0.
Does that make sense? Would that accomplish what you want?

  • Playback stops just before end of playlist in iTunes 7

An annoying problem that started with iTunes 7:
Playback will stop a few seconds before the end of the last track of a playlist (and so the play count for that track is not incremented). The play/pause button does not toggle. If I press pause then play again, it finishes the last few (silent) seconds of the track (and increments the playcount).
Is anyone else having this problem? Anyone know how to fix it?
I have crossfade and gapless playback both turned off.
    PB 15in 1.25GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Just experienced the same problem, while playing a single song searched on iTunes (iTunes 7.01).
When the timer reaches 2/3 seconds to the end, it stops. If I try to start the playback again, or I try to play another song, sometimes iTunes freezes.
    Crossfade turned off too.

  • Can you run an entire iTunes playlist on gapless playback?

I have a specific "party playlist" and I want all the songs on it to run gaplessly as though they're all part of a mix. I have "Crossfade songs" disabled but it still won't work. When I was first creating the playlist and testing out the playback, the songs DID play without any gaps but now there are gaps and I can't seem to get it to go back to playing gaplessly.

my understanding is that crosfading is what makes the songs overlap by 1-12 seconds, so the end of the first song has the begining of the second song playing as well. i.e. setting the crossfade to 6 seconds (middle of the slider) would play the last three seconds of old song and first three seconds of new song at the same time..
In short, try ENABLING crossfading, then playing with the preferences.

  • Playback Problems - Repeate Playlist

Im having a problem playing my music. I put the playlist on Repeate All. I have 95 songs on the list. They play fine untill the playlist completes all songs. It seems when it goes back to the begining to replay the list, it starts playing all garbled and static like. It only does this with a long playlist and hours of play. It starts to play fine again when i completely stop the playback and restart it.
Basically, I turn the playlist on and set Repeate All before i goto bed around 11pm. Then come 5am, its playing cruddy. I have to get up and stop it, then start again.
    any ideas?
PS. iTunes, All Drivers, and Windows XP Pro is all up-to-date. I checked that a few days ago.

iTunes doesn't bow to anyone named Lord, that's your prob.
No, all jokes aside, I never heard of that. My iTunes is lively, sounds like yours is messed.
Do a start > control panel > add/remove and repair iTunes.
