Please Apple, we want the iPhone unlocked!

Hei Apple!
Would you please consider selling unlocked iPhones for a premium price alongside carrier-subsidized locked iPhones?
I live in Finland and here (some) people, like myself, are used to paying 700-1000 euros for Nokia communicators. I would rather pay 700-1000 euros for one iPhone which I could then use with whatever SIM card (carrier) I choose.
Of course, I could have it purchased, revoke the contract with the carrier and then unlock it but would it not be more elegant to give customers the choice? Give us (the users) the choice and you have a "win-win" situation that will benefit everyone (even the carriers) in the long run. Deny the users the choice and in the long run everyone looses.
Please Apple, would you consider offering the iPhone at full price for those who want it unlocked?
If there are some other users out there that share my sentiments, please contribute to this thread by leaving your name/initials.
Thanks,
D.M.

DM> Because Apple sells the iPhone through various carriers it is up to the carrier to decide if an unlocked version will be sold or not. If you go to Italy or Hong Kong you can buy a Factory Unlocked 3G iPhone off the shelf.
3G iPhones sold in Austria, Australia, France, Portugal, Norway, Spain and Switzerland ship as locked devices, but can be unlocked by the carrier.
