Plugin entry point resource in CS5

Hi,
I tried installing our plugin (built against the CS4 SDK) in Illustrator CS5 for Mac, and it basically worked.
However I noticed that randomly during Illustrator CS5 launch it crashes in AWS_CUI_RevertAlert() or AWS_CUI_GetVersionComments(). I reduced my PluginMain function to do nothing but return at once, and it still crashed!
By comparing with the SDK samples I noticed that those don't specify an entry function in their resources. Instead the entry point is always "" (empty string). First of all I didn't think this was legal to do, but it works, and AI uses my PluginMain as default. But more importantly doing just that with my own plugin made the random crashes go away.
Is this a bug in CS5? If so will it be fixed soon?
This "empty string entry point" trick appears to work in CS3 and CS4 also, but is this documented anywhere and safe to do?

I was noticing the same thing with our plug-in. Although, I am seeing the crash consistently in AWS_CUI_RevertAlert upon startup (on machines running 10.6 and 10.5). I would also be interested in knowing if this is a bug in CS5 that will be fixed in the near future, or whether we need to distribute a new copy of our plug-in. Using the empty string did seem to resolve the problem for us as well.
Thanks!

CS5.1 Extended.  Windows 7. 64 bit system.      When I try to open a photograph (RAW, JPEG, or TIFF) in Photoshop I get the following message: "Could not complete your request because the plugin entry point could not be found".  I am unable to open anything in Photoshop.  How do I correct this?

    Trevor,
First, thank you for your response.  I have recently installed a cloud backup system (Bitcasa) that seems to be interferring with many things...  They claim that it does not effect Photoshop, but it does seem to.  I would love to just unintstall and reinstall, but it is a download.  You are correct that I may have to face a long call to customer support to reactivate.  I went to the error log and copied the following error message, please see if this means anything to you:
    2013:11:09 21:19:03 : e:\ps12\ps_12_win_x64_daily_retail\20110328.r.145\photoshop\main\photoshop\interfaces\UTr ackResourceImp.h : 149 : REQUIRE failed
    2013:11:10 14:44:22 : ..\..\sources\USheetSelection.cpp : 248 : REQUIRE failed
I also recently installed the new version (8) of the onOne plugins, but Photoshop was working fine with those and I did not detect any problem.  Thanks again, Dan

  • Causes of "plugin entry point could not be found"

    Hi,
I had a report from a user of
my most popular plugin (i.e., mature and extremely well tested), that it failed to work for him on Photoshop CS3 Extended + Vista Business 32-bit.
The error message when he used the plugin was "Could not save as ... because the plugin entry point could not be found."
Is there anything new about CS3 Ext that might cause this? (The plugin is known to be compatible with Vista.)
I have not had other reports like this, so I am currently concluding it's an oddity of his installation.

    Today is 4/11/2011.
I used the .ico plugin 4 days ago without any problem.
Then, suddenly tonight it would not work.
The post above by "Jas_" correctly identifies the problem as a "file permission issue".
I am running Windows 7 64 bit with Photoshop Elements 7.0 and this version of the .ico format plugin.
For some reason the "permissions" for the group "Users" on the ICOFormat.8bi file (located at: \Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats\ICOFormat.8bi) were "read and execute", but not "Full control".  once I changed the settings back and restarted the computer, I was able to "save as .ico" again with no problem.
(mostly) STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS for Windows 7:
    1. Locate your "ICOFormat.8bi" file
Navigate to Drive Letter (usually C:), Program Files, Adobe, Adobe Elements (what ever version you are using), Plug-Ins, File Formats, and voila... ICOFormat.8bi should be in this folder. (if it is not, then the plugin is not installed, or not installed correctly (see this link to install))
    2. Right Click the ICOFormat.8bi File and select Properties.
    3. Select the Security Tab
    4. Click the "Edit" button beneath the "Group or user names:" box.
    5. Click on each group and determine whether the "full control" check box is checked in the "allow" column.
In my case, the "users" group was allowed to "read and execute", but did not have "full control"
    6. If each group does not have "full control", then Click the "allow" box next to "full control" (as long as you're not trying to prohibit a user from using this plugin, that is... >:-)
    7. Apply All Changes.
    8. Restart your computer.
    9. Open you would-be favicon in Photoshop Elements
10 File, Save as -- .ico...   Poof!   Done!  Fixed!  Yaay!

  • Flash CS5 wont open after working for years? Entry point Not Found

    Hi Guys,
I am having a problem opening my Flash CS5 after it working fine since I installed it forever ago. I do not know what could have caused this, and my other cs5 programs are opening fine.
Dreamweaver and Fireworks didnt change all (these 3; along with Flash; are what I use most)
I also open photoshop and aftereffects from my master collection for testing and they opened fine also. I ran a scan using microsoft essentials and found nothing.
I tried run as administrator on flash and it said the same thing.
    I am using windows 7 Ultimate N SP1 64 bit
Here is the alert in text.
    flash.exe -Entry Point Not Found
    The procedure entry point ?ButtonChanged@UI_ClearButtonTextEdit@controls@dvaui@@UAEXP
AVUI_ButtonChangedMessage@23@@Z could not be located in the
    dynamic link library dvaui.dll
Please let me know what is going on here.
Thanks, I really appreciate the help.

You should be able to cherry pick Flash out to uninstall and reinstall it from the master suite installer if I remember correctly. There's nothing wrong with a fresh reinstall, especially after years. That's a long time to be bulletproof.
Otherwise I can't hand you a commercial DLL but I really don't think your problems will be fixed even if I did. I think it's just hardware doing what it's notorious for, eventually having a fault somewhere. A reinstall of Flash should be fast and will write to new sectors and fix the file.

  • All of my CS5 products work except Flash, Entry Point Not Found error

    Hi,
I am getting this error when starting Flash Professional CS5.  Flash used to work, but I hadn't started it in about a year, and now it doesn't run.  I get this:
"The procedure entry point ?ik_treeIsActive@CFlashIK@@QAE_NJ@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library FlashIK.dll"  I can't seem to find much information about this, and doubt reinstalling over this installation will do much of anything.  Any ideas?

Whens starting flash, as soon as you click the icon to load it try holding down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT and allow it to rebuild preferences.

  • Unable to find an entry point named 'imaqCreateImage' in DLL ...

    Firstly some background:
Using Microsoft's managed extensibility framework (MEF), I've created a "Test Tool" framework which accepts plugins. The plugins are generally HW drivers with UIs. I created a NI Vision plugin  which does camera discovery, acquisition and image processing. All functionality is exposed via a UI and public methods. The  "Test Tool" framework shows the plugin UIs in docking panels (same VS docking panels) and provides a scripting interface for the plugin's public methods.
    Ok, now the problem:
At runtime for the "Test Tool" framework and plugin I get "Unable to find an entry point named 'imaqCreateImage' in DLL ...". After a quick debug: the exception is thrown when instantiating the Imageviewer control in NI Vision plugin UI.
I created a plugin test environment which simply references the plugin and adds the plugin's UI to a form. This works correctly at runtime.
In addition, if I remove the  Imageviewer controls from the plugin, it works correctly at runtime in the "Test Tool" framework.

Have you tried ensuring that the DLL function is actually being exported? You might check out some other forums as this problem has more to do with calling our DLL than the DLL its self. I've found a few other instances of this issue on external forums but I couldn't find any internal resources as you're doing something outside the scope of the intended functionality.

  • Can LabVIEW call a DLL built with VS(2005) C++ with /CLR and Without an Entry Point

My project requires me to convert a C++ program to a DLL and having it called by LabVIEW. Due to the complexity of this C++ program (converted from fortran using f2c -C++ option), it cannot be compiled without using /clr option.  I did build the application standalone (/clr), and it functioned fine.  When I build it into DLL using VS2005, I was forced to use No Entry point option and without using DllMain in the C++ code. Eventually the DLL was built without error.  But after I call it from LabVIEW, I was not getting calculated results as expected.  I added a testing function to the C++ code of the DLL and just try to modify a parameter, it will not, but only return the input numbers.  I was passing data by pointer and not by value, so I expect this parameter output be modified.  I suspect that the DLL didnt get executed at all as it has no entry point specified.
Am I on the right track to approach this task, or I am heading to totally wrong direction here?   I believe due to the fact that my C++ was from f2c and use vsf2c.lib and so on, the code is managed code, so that a regular DLL cannot be built from it with an entry point. How can LabVIEW call such a DLL? Am I right on that?  I really need your advice here for a right approach to this problem and possible implementation "watch outs"...Thanks!
    Bryan

Hi...Finally I was able to compile my code with an entry point defined and without using /clr.  I can also call this DLL from LV and got back a variable from a little test function added to the DLL.  But the function that was used for my main application in the DLL crashed LV and I got a pop up box from Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: Runtime Error! "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way, please contact the application's support team for more information".  In Visual Studio I also got the following message: (I eliminated most of the "No symbols loaded" messages that are not errors but just info.)  I would apprciate if someone can take to look with your more "experienced eyes", many thanks! Bryan.

  • Safari.exe - Entry Point Not Found

I just recently installed Skype because Yahoo! instant messanger has been giving me problems.  Safari was running just fine last night, and when I turned my computer on this morning, I received this message:
Safari.exe - Entry Point Not found
The procedure entry point sqlite3_wal_checkpoint could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll.
When I click "OK," I receive this message:
    Safari can't open.
Your copy of Safari is missing important software resources.  Please reinstall Safari.
I have reinstalled Safari several times, but I still receive the same messages.  I had found a thread from 2010, and attempted to try what was suggested on there, and it suggested to uninstall the AAS as well as safari, and now I cannot open iTunes.  This is very bothersome because I use Safari as my primary browser.
Some aditional information, I am using a PCLaptop and running Windows 7.  I have a lot of things saved in my bookmarks on Safari, and really would not like to use them.  Also, I am a bit computer illiterate and need everything spelled out for me.
    Help please!

Safari for Windows is long dead. I suggest you remove it and let it rest in peace.

  • Locked iTunes folder & 'AppleSyncNotifier.exe – Entry Point Not Found'

Below message seen on log in on a Windows 7 laptop, even after a full reinstall.:
"AppleSyncNotifier.exe – Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point xmlTextReaderConstName could not be located in the dynamic link library libxml2.dll"
In case it's related, soon after, when trying to run iTunes, it failed with a 'no such .exe' type message. Itunes.exe had gone.
After saving the user iTunes library tree, I installed a fresh uptodate iTunes which failed because one of the iTunes subfolders, iTunes.Resources, would not let itself be deleted, not even when on the Administrator account.  Solved this by installing in a slightly-differently named iTunes folder, of course.
How the above DLL survived the reinstall, I don't know.  Is there any brutish way that I can nuke the original iTunes folder's remains?

I'd first try uninstalling and reinstalling your MobileMe control panel.

  • After downloading the latest version of iTunes and updating my iPhone everytime I turn on my computer I get a message that reads: AppleSyncNotifier.exe - Entry Point Not Found. Does anybody know what this means?

After downloading the latest version of iTunes and updating my iPhone, everytime I turn on my computer I receive a message that reads: "AppleSyncNotifier.exe - Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry point sqlite3_wal_checkpoint could not be located in the dynamic link library SQlite.dll" Help! Does anybody know what this means and how I can fix it? Thanks.

Yes.  I just solved the problem on my PC.  Here goes...
Issue:  My Windows7 computer was producing the pop up box with the error text as you described.
The Problem: You have another application on your computer that uses the like named .DLL file... in this case a DLL supporting SQLite on your local PC.
    Solution:
    1.  You need to use the Windows File search feature to look for the name "SQLite".  This will quickly locate the offending DLL in the other application.
    2. Decide which program you like the most, in my case "Mobile Me", and uninstall the offending application.
    3.  Uninstall Mobile Me.
    4.  Restart your PC.
    5.  Reinstall Mobile Me.
    6.  Mobile Me should sync at this point, but if not, restart the PC once again.
In my case, the offending program was my Aptana Studio development application.  I had recently the SQLite3 database to my Ruby On Rails configuration...
This is where the file was located:
    C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Aptana Studio 2.0\plugins\com.aptana.radrails.sqlite3.win32_3.5.7.1278709071\vendor\SQLite3.d ll
    I hope this helps,

I tried googling but I haven't found any solutions, so I thought I'd ask for help here.

No, there is no timeline like that. Vista support for any product will vary from team to team depending on a huge variety of factors.
For us, we're not even sure why it no longers works on Vista. As I said above, it could be a recent change we made or a change in one of the libraries we use with the desktop application. The solution is nowhere near as simple as posting the older version of the desktop application. Edge Inspect is a system of multiple pieces that all have to work together and be able to communicate with each other. Even if we posted the older version of the desktop piece, it's likely that you'd find Edge Inspect features that didn't work because the other pieces no longer spoke to it correctly. It would get progressively worse with each release until it stopped working entirely. And we simply don't have the resources to support a Vista version of the desktop application and keep it up to date with all the other pieces of the application.
We never devoted any of our limited dev or testing resources to testing on Vista and can't start doing that now. In our original FAQ we noted that it was not supported but that we didn't know of any issues with Edge Inspect running on Vista. That's now changed. I've updated the FAQ, and we'll be modifying the installer to reflect the new situation.
I'm sorry, but the final word from engineering and product management is in, Edge Inspect does not support Vista.

  • Illustrator CS6 won't run. Entry Point Not Found

Cannot get Illustrator CS6 to run. All othe CS6 components are running fine.
Every time I try to start Illustrator I get error message:
    The procedure entry point
?AcquireVarient@ImageInterface@drawbot@dvaui@@QEBA?BV?intrusive_ptr@UImageInterface@drawbo t@dvaui@@@boost@@V?rational@J@5@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library dvaui.dll.
This is on a Window 7 Pro PC. CS5 previously ran fine, but computer was rebuilt after a harddrive crash then loaded with CS6 and this problem began. CS6 installation on laptop works fine, so downloaded files are OK.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall twice, but always the same result.

Windows said I had the latest drivers, but ATI (AMD) website had auto-scan software that loaded a newer version. (Was ver 8.x is now 9.0) However, there was no change. I have a Tech Support case with Adobe being escalated now.
Since it was working before, I am worndering about using older drivers. This PC has a V7800 workstation graphics card, so there are special CAD-certified drivers available. Maybe I need to rollback to one of those versions instead of the latest and greatest.
I also found that the dvaui.dll file in the Illustrator directory is a different size on the laptop compared to the workstation. I could move the file, but touching dll's is scary stuff.
