PM G5 for Media Center?

I'm probably going to get a new mac this year. My PM G5 1.6 GHz still runs fine, but isn't as fast as I like and streaming video is starting to slow down.
Is it possible to use this older mac as a media center? I've been hearing about people using mac mini's in media centers.
Right now I have AT&T U-verse, DVD recorder and an Apple TV hooked into my TV. Can my Power Mac fit in there anywhere?

It should handle it, but I think the Minis most people use for that are Intel Minis faster than your G5.
streaming video is starting to slow down.
Give this a try on that...
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers for the Interface you're using...

After installing, Reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
The 5 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.

How do I get missing help files back into XP Media Center?

Quite some time ago my "help" information in Media Center dissappeared. I have restore points, but often go for long periods of time withOUT using Media Center. I cannot find an information about repairing or re-installing Media Center. I have an HP Media Center PC m7470n runing XP SP3, with Windows XP Media Center Edition2005 v. 5.1.2715.3011, Update Rollup 2. If I click help it does nothing. Sometimes I can watch TV & sometimes not. Today all channels are just static, if I go to TV tuner setup, the program locks up, then I have to go to Task Manager in order to exit MC. NO RECOVERY CD'S came with my PC. I had created recovery CD's a long time ago, but when I access PC Tools & Help to recover software, Media Center is not listed there. Also in add/remove, there is no "repair" choice for Media Center. I am NOT interested in doing a COMPLETE Restore. Also if I click "Guide Terms of Service" or "Data Provider Credits" nothing appears. Please help.

Have you tried disconnecting the cable from the PC, restart the PC, and then reconnect and try to setup the TV signal again? I'm thinking it's freezing because the MC is not recognizing the signal, like it knows something is there but it can't figure it out. It also could be you had some sort of energy surge or static buildup. I know this sounds unlikely. But electronics can act weird when they have too much static or some other kind of interference.
It is odd that two of your systems would have the cable signal go out at the same time, but you may be write that it's unrelated....but if it is related, maybe having the cable guy fix one will fix both

I've downloaded it twice both from it's mirror sites (US-Europe & Taiwan). And I've not found any "serial.txt" included in the "HomeTheater.zip" file.
I've search for cracks and serial keys but it doesn't work.
I want to try it with my Mega 651.

Media center/app download charges keep showing up on my bill

Every month like clockwork, I've been getting charged for media center/app download purchases on my bill which I don't use or want, and I don't remember ever even downloading them in the first place, unless my 2-year old daughter played with my phone and did this. I called Verizon on 9/14/14 and they reversed some of the charges and said I won't be further charged. I then went into my local Verizon store 3 days later and the attendant confirmed that I didn't have these application on my phone. Bu then the same exact charges showed up on my next bill. I did online chat with a representative and they removed the charges and confirmed that I wouldn't be charged again. But now this month, IT IS SHOWING UP AGAIN !!!!!!!!   I don't know how to get these charges permanently removed from phone, and I fear the next Verizon rep I talk to is just going to confirm that it's removed and I'll have to keep calling back every month. Someone PLEASE HELP !!!!   I have a Samsung Intesity III phone.

Media center III

but all i get is a broken download the most i have had is a 12mb faulty download.

X-Fi Elite Pro no wave support in XP Media Cente

I no longer have my original installation CD. I downloaded the latest drivers from the site for Media Center 5 and they installed without any error messages. I don't get any sound. It shows the X-Fi as properly installed in device manager. I have disabled the Audio on my motherboard. If I open the Sounds and Audio Device Propeties dialogue box in Control panel under the Audio tab for Sound Playback it says there is "No Playback Devices". Under Midi music playback it does show "SB X-Fi Synth A [BC00]"? If I go to the hardware tab it shows the Creative SB-X-Fi under devices which if I open and click on the properties tab it shows Audio Devices, MIDI Devices and Instruments and Mixer Devices. If I double click on Creative X-Fi Audio Processor (WDM) the properties dialogue box opens which states the statas as: Driver is enabled and functioning properly. It seems to be installed properly but it is not available for wave audio.

I have checked, doublechecked and triplechecked the mixer settings,
and digital io only is switched off.
I've tried using the speaker connectivity wizard, but no luck....

Media in CD / DVD drive not writeable by Media Center

I have a Qosmio F20 laptop running Windows XP Media Center 2005 edition, when I try and record my recorded tv program onto a DVR+RW I get the following error message,
Media in the CD/DVD drive is not writeable by Media Center
I have update rollup 2 installed.

I can record using the installed Sonic recording package onto all of my discs, CDR CDRW DVD+RW with no problem.
I just wanted to record via Media Center in the hope that it would play on my DVD player attached to my TV.
My CD drive model is UJ-840S so I hoped I woudnt have the problem. As the info from Microsoft says that its
the UJ-846S that may not work without installing Update Rollup 2 for Media Center.

The computer is using a DVD-RAM drive that was not supported in the initial release of Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. For example, the problem is known to occur when you use the Matsu****a DVD-RAM drive model UJ-846S. This drive was not supported in the initial release of Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.
Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 adds support for additional drives, including the Matsu****a DVD-RAM drive model UJ-846S. Without these updates installed, the UJ-846S drive will correctly recognize DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD-RAM discs. However, the drive will not recognize CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD+RW discs.
To determine the model of optical drive that is installed in the computer, follow these steps:
1. Click START click RUN type MSINFO32 and then click OK
2. In System Information expand COMPONENTS
3. Click CD-ROM The mode of the optical drive is displayed in the NAME section.
I will keep trying various Microsoft solutions and come back If I find the answer.

How do you get ahold of this program, and does it run on the MEGA 865?

I don't think its just me who has something against Intervideo software.
I use MSIPVS (WinDVR) on my system for the TV, and while it does the job and works well, I feel that it is overall poorly designed. Besides I can't be bothered to try anything else, I don't watch much TV now
Now as for Media Center III (HomeTheater), I had this installed for about an hour before uninstalling it, it really is poor. It is a good idea in theory, just really badly written.
I mostly use my Mega PC as a hi-fi replacement, mainly now to play MP3s, and occasionally listen to the radio. I have a large collection of MP3s and WMAs, and like to just stick Windows Media Player in shuffle mode and leave it to it. Media Center III can't even do this simple feature.
On the other hand, the MSI Mega Radio is a great little program, simple and unfussy, my only gripe is that it can't store more than six stations, but I think that is due to a limitation on the Hi-Fi module, be nice if the software would store more though.

Win7 Media Center not seing movies in movie library

I have a DV7 that I upgraded to win7 from vista 64bit home premium. Ever since i did the upgrade, my media center does not see the movies i have in the movie library. if i add the same folder to my video library, the video library sees all the movies. I had to download media browser plugin for media center in order to view my movies. The media browser sees them just fine. Just out of curiosity i loaded a clean copy of win7 and the media center has no problem seeing the movies in the same folder. It is only when I do the upgrade, and I have to do the upgrade to keed the dvd burning software that was included / preinstalled on the laptop. what a pain.

I was just wondering if there are any other internet/online channels I can get for Vista Media Center?
I only have about 9 at the moment, and would like preferby free ones. I don't have satelite or cable tv so would like online ones, is there anywhere that I can get sky one without a satellite dish as prison breaks on soon.

I dont think you will be able to find a free Sky One channel in the internet.
But Im not expert and this is only my personal opinion.
If you dont have a satellite or cable TV you could buy a DVB-T TV tuner and maybe then you will be able to receive more TV channels using MCE ;)

I upgraded from PE$ -> 5 a while ago and noticed that I lost the media center icon for photoshop elements.
How do I get this to work with PE5? I see the Digital Home files and have done a uninstall and re-install of the app already..

Hello, I would like to know if there is any alternative application that I can use to watch TV instead of Media Center II.
I would really hope that there are other softwares available that play out anything that the nVidia WDM drivers give them.
Reasons for shifting are:

When watching TV on Media Center the bottom 2 inches of screen are cropped in the software, and the picture is very slightly narrowed (as in its made a square forcefully)
Media Center always mutes my Wave/Mp3 sound on startup and on exit doesn't fix this and put the Line In on full.
Media Center on exit turns on the power management icon in the task bar which appears after reboot, and I have to turn off the option (Always show power management icon in task bar) manually.[/list=1]
If anyone can help out it'll be really appreciated.

Is there or can Microsoft develop a app for smart TVs so you can stream from Windows Media Center

I have used Windows Media Center for years to record TV programs and have even sertup my kids Xbox 360 as an extender. I've recently purchased a smart TV which allows me to steam music and home videoes from Windows media player but ofcourse the .wtv
files will not play. Would it be possible to develop an app for Smart TVs and other devices so they can be used as extenders. I'm sure many people would be willing to pay for the app. I've tried some 3rd party extenders and not been
happy with there performance and I'd like to not need another box and remote. I'm sure these new TVs have the ability to do it will microsoft allow them too?
