PNG Transparency Issues in v2.0?

I've been working on a project started in Captivate 1.0 and
imported into version 2.0. I employ a generous number of 24-bit PNG
files for "continue" buttons and "menu" buttons throughout a 200+
slide project. For some reason I cannot explain, some instances of
the PNG files have lost their transparent drop shadows and the area
around the button itself has gone solid black.
I can edit the button properties and re-select the button
.png file again to restore the dropshadow and "fix" the appearance
of the graphic, but when I re-publish certain images appear with
the solid black area again.
At one point I did change the project background property to
"black" by accident and then changed it back to "white." Could this
be a bug related to this action?
I don't mind making one pass through the project to reset the
buttons - but multiple passes are really eating up a lot of
production time.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.
-Mark
Any help would be

Hi mtippin,
Shooting in dark here, try editing the properties of button,
like transparency or any other property related to button only, and
do apply all, for all slides. See if that works for you?
thanks

  • Png transparency issues in IE6

    I've had an absolutely lovely time today trying to make my
    header logo (a transparent .png) display correctly in IE6. I guess
    I might be better off giving up on it, but at this point I don't
    want to let go of it (plus I'd like the page to look better). I
    used the pngfix.js fix from
    Bob
    Osala's site. I put the JavaScript in the same folder as my
    template, and followed the instructions given on the site.
    When I check the template page in IE6 it looks just fine, but
    when I check the web pages using the template, the logo displays
    with the dreaded bluish gray background. Here's what my test page
    looks like:
    Feed-back.com test

    IE6 doesn't even see the code. I obviously don't understand
    how this works. Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Dana

    Dana,
    Your page is looking for the pngfix.js here but it's not
    there.
    http://feed-back.com/pngfix.js
    I typically place my scripts into a folder called Scripts. So
    my code would
    look like this:
    <!--[if lt IE 7]>
    <script defer type="text/javascript"
    src="Scripts/pngfix.js"></script>
    <![endif]-->
    Also, just so you know, pngfix.js doesn't work on background
    images.

  • PNG Transparency issue

    Hi,
    I have a wired problem. Regardless if I use CS 4 x64 or x86 I can't save an alpha channel to the PNG format. It does support alpha, right?
    I opened a tga file containing the alpha channel save to png and it is gone.
    The same happens if I choose "Save for web and devices."
    Any ideas?

    I got it. You are right. I mixed it up. It works the way you described it.
    Thanks

  • .PNG Transparency in Photoshop CC won't carry over to Photoshop Touch

    Whenever I creat a template in Photoshop CC with the intent of using it in Photoshop Touch, the.PNG transparency will not show in PS Touch. I open the document in Photoshop CC and its all layed out perfectly, I open it in Photoshop Touch and its flat and filled with white.
    I'd really appreciate any help with this issue. Thanks!

    Does Photoshop Touch support PC and Mac files like .png files
    Adobe Photoshop Touch for tablet

  • Transparency Issues with PSD files in FCP 7

    I'm having some weird file layer transparency issues with FCP 7. I'm working on a project that's made up entirely of graphics drawn in Photoshop CS5. They Photoshop settings were done to match an HDTV 1080i (16:9) sequence in FCP. In FCP, the pixels were set to square, field dominance to none, frame rate to 29.97 and compressor is Apple ProRes 422.
    I exported my PSD files out of Photoshop, with each layer being exported to its own file. In general, things were fine, but there were a few files where you could see the outline of the character against the background, but mind you that this is only visible once the video is rendered out in the FCP timeline. Nothing is visible in Photoshop, nor is it visible while viewing from the Browser in FCP. I told this to the artist and he went back and made corrections, making sure everything was on a transparent background, but the result was still the same - once I rendered the graphics out in FCP, these edge lines were visible.
    I then went back into Photoshop, opened all the files that were giving me trouble, clicked on the "foreground color" and changed it to a color other than white, then back to white and hit ok. That seemed to work - even when rendered out, I was getting no artifacts, until I tried enlarging the graphics over 100%.
    Also, with some of the same graphics, I was trying to layer them so that a guy was in the foreground with other people and a van behind him in the background. Once again, no problem in Photoshop, but once brought into FCP, the background people were actually being displayed over the main foreground character.
    I'm pretty baffled - what to do? I'll attach a photo of the weird lines around the characters. It might be hard to see at this size, but if you download and enlarge it to 300% or so, you'll see what I mean.

    Just saw that Adam's original post was an older one.  Will keep this here anyway to maybe help the most recent poster.

    Adam, did you try what David said about pointing to the root folder?  Did that work?
    When I copy the SD card, I name a new folder on my hard drive something specific, like Smith Wedding.  Then I copy everything inside the SD card to that new folder.  The first level inside my new folder now has folders for
    AVF_INFO
    PRIVATE
    and on down from there.  When you open Log and Transfer, point it to the Smith Wedding folder (of course whatever you have named yours).
    ClipWrap2 also works great to convert the files beforehand if you want.
    What camera are you using?  I have the Sony NX30 and it was giving me fits because the .mts files don't ingest if the clips are longer than 11 min. My problem is that I'm still on FCP 6.0.6.  I think 7.0.3 fixed that.  But I did find enough work-arounds to keep the camera.

  • InDesign CS2-generated PDF & feather effect/transparency issues

    I am at my wit's end. I received a client's PDF file created to my specs (same ones we've used for 5 years). I am having massive flattened transparency issues. I am currently using Trueflow version 3, a rip which does not support live transparency; therefore, my distiller settings require that transparency be flattened. There are some horrible results that I can't rectify on my end. There is stitching showing (and outputting to the plate!) where she has placed .psd files on some pages. There is also a problem with feathered objects (which are linked photos) - they look just fine in the document but when exported and flattened, there is a white box behind the pictures instead of the soft feathered look.
    When I exported her CS2 file using Acrobat 5 instead of 4, the effect is fine, but - my rip kicks it out. When I export to my specs, the PDF has the above print issues --
    I want to clarify that I always view print ready PDF files using output and overprint preview -- this is not a preview issue -- it is a definite file & export & resulting print issue.
    I would love to be able to assist my client -- this is a rush job. If anyone has encountered this and has a feeling what may be causing it, please let me know -
    Also - I do not have any software to correct this issue -
    Thanks in advance -

    Peter -- I am looking over those articles now. Here is the problem -- we do not print from the application
    File > Print, and under Output, choose Composite CMYK, and CHECK the “Simulate Overprint” checkbox. Under Advanced, select your all-raster flattener.
    I do not have her entire document -- only a couple of the problem children.
    I suppose a workaround would be to (if I had her files) see if I could print as a postscript and distill it to a PDF -- or print to a postscript and send that into Trueflow to see if it will accept it --
    However, I did receive a warning that by creating that high res setting with the slider all the way to the left, it would rasterize the whole page --
    Now, I can already do that in just one step by opening the PDF in photoshop at a very high resolution and flattening it --
    I simply hate having to go that route when we have type on the page too -- I think my issue is a lack of proper equipment -- we don't like to rasterize if we can help it -
    Since this job is a rush, I may have no choice but to do that on those pages -
    That info is helpful but in reality is a longer way of accomplishing the same thing --

  • Can Anyone help with an Illustrator transparency issue?

    I created a logo in Illustrator which includes an imported Photoshop psd file with a transparent background. The transparency behaves properly in Illustrator, but as soon as I place it in In Design or open it in photoshop the graphic shows up on a white box/background (the rest of the elements in the logo remain transparent, as they should be). And btw-the greyscale version of this same logo has no transparency issues.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    it is part of an entire suite of logos that are all vector based Illustrator files
    No, it is not. It contains a raster image, so it is not "all vector" regardless of its being assembled in Illustrator.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    The EPS file will not handle transparency.
    EPS supports "transparency" in 1-bit raster objects. It also supports clipping paths, which is how this particular logo would have been handled in earlier times (assuming one insists on the simple grads being raster).
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    What kind of file do you save and place in ID - should be an AI - is it?
    InD doesn't really import AI content. It only imports PDF content of an .ai file (if any).
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    I'm on a time crunch
    Take Scott's earlier advice. Especially given that you are compiling a collection of (presumably) reuseable logo files, this should be re-created as entirely vector content. That mark should take no more than a few minutes to redraw. Simply by including the raster element (which is primary element, by the way), you are obviating the core advantage of vector artwork (resolution independence) to begin with. So if you insist on that element being raster, then the whole thing might as well be, and your workflow is needlessly convoluted.

  • Indesign CS4 to PDF 1.3 transparency issue

    We submitted an ad to the local newspaper that we created in Indesign CS4 and Acrobat 9. The ad was exported as a press-quality Acrobat 4 PDF.
    It is a fairly simple layout, with type and a logo.
    The headline and logo have a drop shadow applied with multiply blend mode. All colors are CMYK.
    When the ad prints, the headline and logo have 1% black-filled boxes around them.
    I know this is a transparency issue. However, we've done the same ad in Indesign CS3 and Acrobat 8 with no problems as long as we were CMYK and Acrobat 4.
    Has something changed in CS4 that I don't know about? Could it be the multiply blend mode rather than normal?
    Problem is, the newspaper can't give me a proof -- we have to wait and see what happens when they print. I can't simulate the problem on my end. The ad prints perfectly on my HP5000N in b/w and on my Phaser 8560 in color.
    One workaround suggested was to export the file as a JPG or EPS and save as a Photoshop PDF. We did that on one ad that will run Monday, so we'll see. However, that makes the files with photos enormous -- like from 4 mb to 26 mb.
    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. We're in the middle of an ad campaign and we're resorted to the old-fashioned manual drop shadow out of desperation!
    mev

    Has something changed in CS4 that I don't know about? Could it be the multiply blend mode rather than normal?
    Something did change. In some cases (maybe all), the flattener in CS4 will put the shadow behind the background rather than in front. In both cases, though, using a RIP and/or viewer which is set to honor overprints will avoid the problem, and allow the artwork to render correctly.
    You say that all colors are CMYK. Are you absolutely certain that the background (whatever the rectangular shadow-containing "boxes" knock out) is not a spot color? Your problem description would be more easily explicable if it were.
    One workaround suggested was to export the file as a JPG or EPS and save as a Photoshop PDF. We did that on one ad that will run Monday, so we'll see. However, that makes the files with photos enormous -- like from 4 mb to 26 mb
    This in itself suggests that these folks do not know what they are doing (though I know that's not terribly helpful to you if you need to advertise with them). I must say that given current economic realities in the newspaper business, it's hard to image a paper refusing to cooperate with a paying advertiser - especially one who has been previously bitten - if not by the newspaper's own incompetence, at least by their unwillingness/inability to provide a proof.

  • I'm having trounble with PNG transparency in Firefox

    After I publish my site I see all the PNG transparency in Firefox but in other browsers the PNG transparency works well.
    Is there a fix for this?

    You would need to publish a URL to get help with this and also mention which version of Firefox you are using. Are you using the latest V 4.0?

  • Hidden color in PNG transparency. How does photoshop define it and can i change it?

    There is hidden colorinformation in PNG transparency. I need to set the hidden color to black.ow can i change this information?
    You can see the false colorinformation of the PNG, when you open the file in Paintshop Pro.
    My workaround of this is using PSP instead of Photoshop.

    Nice! Never thought of Shift clicking the Mask...Thank you for that information!
    So when i click on the mask, i really get those hidden information. But i cant change it, do i?
    I am using CS6.
    And mask from transparency does not work for Smartobjects or does it?

  • FCP 7 ignores PNG transparency if you don't design the "right" way :)

    So here I am, doing my own thing as usual, editing, getting ready to slap on a lower third. So I decide to design it a different way this time. What if it looks like a curvy sheet of paper coming from the bottom of the screen, so that it's not just a regular suspended lower third that flashes on and off.
    All good until I export the thing. It took me 2 hours to understand why FCP 7 is ignoring png transparency. Apparently, it's not how you export it, it's not the content (weird layers modes), and it's not even the DPI setting. It is the design itself. For some reason, FCP thinks you should never attempt to bring in a lower third that starts at the bottom of the screen, filling it completely. So there ya go. If you want PNG transparency, DO NOT FILL THE BOTTOM PART OF THE IMAGE. Leave some transparent space. Talk about putting your creativity on a leash.
    To better illustrate this odd behavior which I would classify as a bug, I wasted 5 minutes recreating my "problem" for the world to see.
    Have fun!
    http://vimeo.com/19856624

    Hello,
    Thank you for your advice. I have no experience using TIFF or even alpha channels when exporting an image. I understand how they work though, so I'll try that.
    I have fiddled with that regular save as well, and it seemed to make a difference but then again it would still not be recognized as a transparent PNG either way. It may be a bug in my setup, I don't know.
    Usually, if I want to animate something I use motion and that seems to take care of alpha channels on export. But of course, it would be a lot faster to do it right there in FCP, so thank you for again, I'll try using TIFF exports.

  • PyGtk/Python 2.0 png transparency help

    I've googled and tried to solve this myself for the past few hours to no avail, so i'm hoping someone will be able to help. I installed gmail-notify and decided i wanted to make the popup transparent, so i started looking into the .py file. Even though i'm learning C, and some Assembly, i just can't fully understand python and the gtk library and the frustration is starting to get me. So basically what i'm trying to achieve is to make the image that pops up (background.png) transparent. I'm running stand-alone Openbox, with Cairo. And iv'e made the alpha layers and all that too in the png image. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Transparency issues with INDCS3 and Pantone color

    Running Windows XP, Serv Pk 2, Creative Suite CS3, All updates.
    Heres the deal: We are having problems with PDFs printing and Ripping when using transparencies and drop shadows.
    Issue 1: INDD CS3 file with transparent PDF placed as image. Separate frame filled with paper, stroke and drop shadow placed under trans PDF file. Filled frame areas of percentage tint using a PANTONE color used on same page. File re-PDFed (compat to v6) and file printed correctly to XEROX 7760 and HP color. PDF views correctly. Recommended ordering policy applied to all layers as to keep drop shadow below text. PROBLEM: User running Acro 7 to printing to same color printers, receives copy with color tint areas missing.
    Issue 2: INDD CS3 file with solid Pantone color on background. Several text frames layered above. Under text frame a solid box with SOLID Drop shadow. PDFed using Acro 8. PROBLEM: User's RIP and DIGITAL presses do not recognize the drop shadow? White knockout box appears in this area.
    It seems that CS3 is handling transparency issues differently and/or that Acro 8 (compat to v6) is doing something different. The Acro 8 users have no problem printing or PDFing.
    Could this also be the "known issue" of transparencies and PANTONE colors? We are testing out converting all the colors to CMYK.
    Please respond at your earliest.

    Ken,
    If your final output is to the Xerox, which can't print Spot colors without converting them to CMYK, you should use process colors instead.
    Also, read the articles from InDesign Secrets:

  • Transparency issue while exporting in PNG 24 (png 32 in fact)

    Hello,
    I'm trying to export in png24 with transparency but instead of a png Photoshop (ImageReady in fact) creates a jpg with no transparency at all... I can see on the optimized image that ImageReady cannot show the transparency i have in Photoshop (he puts white background evrywhere, but in the original image i actually have transparency).
    Can someone help me with this bug ?
    Thank you !
    Jordi

    You wrote ImageReady I used CS2 version of Image Ready the latest version of ImageReady.   I do not have any version of Photoshop older then CS2 installed. CS2 was shipped 2005. How old is your ImageReady? What version are you using. You do realize imageready is no longer available or supported right.  In CS6 you use Save for Web to save PNG 24 files. With Transparency check for transparency.  I do not know if PNG 32 exists  I don't do HDR but know there is some 32Bit color support for HDR. Save for web is not an option if your exditing in 32bit color depth. Many Image File formats do not support 32 bit color...... I know PNG support 16bit Color where jpeg only supports 8bit color depth.

  • PNG transparency lost using event.target.loader.content.bitmapData

    I load a png 24 (tripple checked alpha is ok)
    override public function loadData():void
         var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
         var loader = new Loader();
         loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, imageloadedSuccess);
         loader.load(request);
    public function imageloadedSuccess(e:Event):void
         showPNG(e.target.loader.content.bitmapData);
    in Air 1.5 png (e.target.loader.content.bitmapData) has no transparency
    same code using Flash 10 export transparency is there.
    both of course loading same png file.
    Is this a known issue?
    I haven't tried yet using 2.0
    is there a workarround to load external png and keep the transparency?
    thx by advance
    Fabrice

    for each loader created, create a movieclip and add your loader to the movieclip.  assign all the properties you want to retrieve later to the movieclip and assign your event listeners to the movieclip.
