Podcasts app

I got a new iPod Touch (5th gen) and am looking for a podcasts app with the following properties:
1) Sync podcasts from my computer to my iPod without wifi
2) When I connect the cable between my computer and my iPod and I sync it, I want it to remove the podcasts I've already listened to and only keep unplayed podcasts
3) I want to be able to only see podcasts that are actually on the iPod, without being shown podcats that I need to be connected via wifi to listen to
Does anyone know of such an app? The native Podcats app doesn't seem to have any of these properties. (Please correct me if I'm wrong! I can't figure out how to make it behave the way listening to podcats via the Music app used to work.)

Hello, raquemorata.Welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions! You're referring to the default podcast app and not to a downloaded one, is that correct? Do yo get any error message when trying to open the Podcasts app in your Lumia 520? Apart from Podcasts, are all the other preinstalled and downloaded apps working fine in your phone? After installing the Lumia Cyan SW in your 520, have you checked if the system apps were updated as well? Go to Settings > swipe to applications > store > check for updates.
We'll wait for your response.

  • How can I create a playlist that syncs with my ipod touch 5 that plays both podcasts and music? Before updating to itunes 11 I was able to do it and now it seems that the power is gone. (I do not have the podcast app on my ipod touch 5)

When apple first introduced the podcast app for my iphone I discovered that installing it took away the option to have a playlist (smart playlist or regular) that mixed music, audiobooks and podcasts. I therefore quickly uninstalled it and was happy to have my iOS devices happily mixing music and podcasts.
With the push to itunes 11.1 and iOS 7 on my ipod Touch and ipad mini I no longer have mixed playlists. I do see (according to itunes) that the podcasts are copied to my devices but there doesn't seem any way to play them. Nor do my mixed format playlists contain them.
When combined with the change to the podcast tab in itunes that shows all available by default and doesn't seem to offer any way to Turn it OFF so I can easily see what new unlistened to podcasts exist it seems that the way I got used to using my itunes since my ipod nano first generation has been eliminated. I haven't read why so if someone could point me to their logic on how come I would want the changes they keep trying to force on me I would at least understand their motives.
If no one has a better fix I have discovered that I can declare the podcasts to be audiobooks and get them to play that way. One downside to that approach is that it doesn't clear them out of the podcast folder thanks to the change to the iCloud friendly format or whatever they were hoping for.

And what is the wording of the error message?

  • How can I sync a podcast in iTunes to Podcasts app, but not Music app

When I first got the podcast app I had three podcasts set to sync to my iPhone. Two were podcasts I'm subscribed to via iTunes Music Store and one is a podcast downloaded from a website as individual files (I changed the type to Podcast). The first time I lauched the Podcasts app all of them were there and I was happy. Even though they were now in my Podcasts app I subscribed to them from the app (except for the one that I didn't get from iTunes) I then turned off podcast syncing in iTunes so it wouldn't sync podcasts to both my Music app and my Podcasts app. Maybe this wasn't necessary but I didn't want duplicates and I found nothing online telling me if syncing would result in two copies or not so I chose to turn it off.
Now I've listened to all of the episodes of the one I downloaded from a website and I want to put more, newer episodes of it on my iPhone. However, I can't figure out how to get them from iTunes to the Podcasts app. The only thing I can think of would be to turn on syncing again but as mentioned above, I'd like to leave syncing off.
    Any help appreciated.

Unfortunately since the Podcast App is not part of iTunes, you cannot sycn from iTunes.  You have to subscribe to the podcast from inside the Podcast App.
Do this by clicking on the gear in the top right hand corner. Then turn "Subscription" on.  While you're here decide with order you want to sort them, oldest or newest first.  Be aware that, to my knowledge, your IOS device must be awake to download the podcasts you subscribe to.
To delete podcasts you've listened to, simply swipe from right to left on the podcast and tap on the delete button when it appears.  This is done by individually, just like in Mail. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a way to select multiple episodes to delete at once.

  • Does anyone know how the podcasts app is supposed to work?

The podcasts app with iOS 7 is drively me absolutely and completely crazy.
1.I try to sync podcasts between my core iTunes library and two iDevices.
I sync a whole bunch of podcasts from my iTunes library. At some point, they randomly disappear. I come to the support communities were the general consensus is to remove iTunes from the equation. I do that. I resubscribe to all of my podcasts on my phone. I go through the tedium of downloading all the old episodes, clicking each episode one-by-one since there is no button to "download all". It works, sort of, but episodes don't sync across all devices. Finally, I decide I'd be content if it just worked on ONE device.
    2. I resubscribe to all my podcasts on my iphone only.
Everything works, sort of, for awhile. Then one day I make the mistake of connecting my phone to my computer. The sync process decides to remove some (but not all) of my podcasts. Even those that haven't been listened to are gone. They are still available through "download old episdoes".
But I don't WANT to download them again. I already have, three or four times.  Worse yet is when they're replaced with the stupid cloud symbol. Look, I want to listen to these AWAY from the cloud, away from the internet.
I'm just 100% baffled by what the intent of this app is.  I have "Subscription - off" and "Refresh podcast - manually" on.  I am about to re-tag all podcasts as simple songs simply to get away from the irritating podast app.
Can someone please answer this very, very simple question:
How do I download and retain podcasts on my iPhone without them a) disappearing randomly or b) disappearing after they've been listened to?

Several ways to get similar results.  Image > Adjustments > Posturize with low values similar to what you'd use n Cutout.  This is the most flexible way I can think of as you keep the image in RGB mode with layers intact.  A more radical approach would be to reduce bit depth using Indexed Colour.  You'll need to experiment with settings, try changing Forced to Primaries, and Matte to Foreground Color.  There's no going back from this route, although you can change the mode back to RGB to re-enable layers, adjustment layers etc.
A nice thing about the Filter gallery filters is that you can change the layer to a Smart object with all the control that gives you.
Now if only this forum could filter out bizarre content.

  • Podcast App 1.1.1 (185) and iTunes Sync

    Hi,
I wonder if someone can point me to the correct why to use this application with iTunes, the issues I seem to be having is i have deleted the appliction off the iphone and to try and get the list of podcasts back to the same as the PC. Do i now stop the iphone from Auto Downloadind and just let the PC handle the subscriptions, the reason i say this is that before removing the app the number of dublicates that i was getting within the app was eating all my memory on the phone.
It would really help if Apple would publish a how to use guide undrr differnet use cases, i'm sure if you want the app on the phone to handel all the downloads and subscriptions then it may work but once youy add itunes into the mix it all seems to go wrong.
It may be that i need to tune off sync from within iTunes on the PC but again there does not seem to be anyt steer from Apple one way or another.
    Spence..

One you delete the Podcasts app from your iPhone, restart your phone.  You now should be able to play podcasts using the music app again.  You will be back to the way you were under iOS 5.x, where iTunes on your computer downloads the podcasts, and you decide (using iTunes) which ones to copy to your phone.

  • Podcast app woes

    itouch 5g, ios 8.1.2
The podcast app is malfunctioning again.
I think we're getting close to the monthly factory reset & re-install
(I'm about a week overdue).  Anybody have any solution to any of these?
This reset & reinstall cycle is ridiculous.  This is not 1959.
    1) After a while, podcast stops updating all of itself.  It doesn't update
playlists, & doesn't seem to catalog new episodes in its various podcast
feeds.  Sometimes new episodes will show up as additional downloads, sometimes
not.  When the device is sync'ed with itunes, this sync connection will show all
those missing episodes being downloaded to the device.  But they're not there
    in the podcast app.
Sometimes the updates will just magically appear sometime later, but
this has stopped.  This is usually a signal that the app is so messed up
that the device has to be reset.
    2) There is one helluva memory leak.  The device is nearly out of space, but
there is far, far less space used for these tracks in itunes, and in an itouch 4g
that I keep in parallel (I don't have to run the horrible podcast app on the 4g).
When you look on the device when it's hooked up to itunes, you can see hundreds
of duplicate tracks.  I don't know that they're real, but at the least it's an indicator
that the app has mismanaged the database.
Eventually it will run completely out of memory & then complain; that's an unmistakable
    signal for a factory reset.
A better podcast app would be nice, but it would have to behave itself
on bluetooth, have a good multispeed capability, & use itunes data & playlists.
The ones I've tried fail one of those 3 requirements.
    Any ideas/fixes appreciated! ==mwh

I gave up and deleted the Podcast app.  I replaced it with Instacast which seems to work fine so far.

  • Why do manually added mp3s in the Podcasts app all show up in the same folder?

    Let me explain!
I like to download lectures and talks and audio books from other sources than iTunes.
I like to add these mp3 files to iTunes, change the Media type of them from Music to Podcast, and transfer them to my iPod Touch. This is so I will more easily know which ones have been listened to and can be removed.
This worked (and works) well in the Music app. Everything was separated into folders based on what album name I had manually assigned to the ID3 tags of the files.
But in the Podcast app, all of these files are now lumped into one folder.
I currently have eight un-listened-to episodes of Philip K. Dick's Valis on my iPod Touch. But the folder shows a count of 106 unheard episodes in relation to this audio book, because it lumps all of my other manually added podcast media tracks into the same folder.
    Why is this?
Why does the Podcasts app refuse to let me separate manually added files into individual folders based on album information?
Had the My Stations feature let me populate its playlists in a more rational manner, and also allowed me to manually change the running order of the tracks (something which only seems to be possible in the On-The-Go playlist), I would not think that this omission was such an annoyance.
I have been searching for months for mentions of this problem, but I have not seen a single one, and so I have finally decided to make my own thread.
Let me know if the nature of my problem remains unclear.
    Joakim

    That doesn't do anything.
When I plug my phone in and attempt to sync it with iTunes and click on "Steven's iPhone" under "Devices" the display to the right just says "loading..." and it stays like that for hours. Nothing happens.
As far as I can tell, there is literally no way for me to delete the photos from my iPhone and I therefore, cannot upgrade to the newest software, download new apps, etc.

  • HT3281 Podcasts disappeared from iTunes library and iPhone podcast app.

All of my Podcast subscriptions and content suddenly disappeared from my iTunes library and from the Podcast app on my iPhone.  Checked iTunes to make sure it's running the latest version of software, and it is.  Music library appears to be OK.  How do I fix this and get my podcasts back?

This just happened to me this morning. I sat down to update my podcasts, and discovered that every podcast I was subscribed to that had any recent episodes (I'm thinking since the first of this year, but no way to tell a definite date for sure) had disappeared. When my iPhone synced, they disappeared from it, as well. I looked them up in the iTunes Store podcast directory, and had to resubscribe to every one of them. And some of them only make a limited number of old episodes available in iTunes, so I've lost some without ever getting to listen to them.
    *** Apple? This is nonsense!

  • Podcast app doesn't work with iTunes this made me want back to 5.1.1

Apple may want to make podcast more popout. they made a NEW app "podcasts"
but I start to hate apple to do this just like the iOS 6 maps.
the new Podcasts app is desinged to be work alone (without iTunes)
it can download subscribe find,  ok that's cool but it just won't work with iTunes. maybe apple have data shows more people are iDevice centered.
But I'm an iTunes centered user. I use iTunes to search subscribe download and DELETE Podcast that I've watched. and I LOVE THIS WAY! I DON"T WANT MY PHONE TO Manage or store podcasts!
back to iOS 5. every moming, I sync my iPhone with my iTunes, 1 new unplayed podcasts from every show was synced to my iPhone. and I play them on the way to my company.
at night I watch some other shows on my mac. them sync with iPhone. all played podcasts will not remain on iPhone, and marked as played in iTunes and ready to be deleted. iTunes only keep 4 episodes.   all things is automatic. but iOS 6 Changes everything.  It won't works with iTunes, and music can't play podcasts anymore. I have to Manually subscribe on iPhone again! and Manualy delete on iPhone and Manualy delete on iTunes.
THIS IS TOTOALLY Unacceptable... for me. My phone or iPad have very limited spaces, and 3G data plan.
Use iTunes means, no 3G needed, download only once!
Use Podcast app and sync over iCould means 3G data and download as the same number as yours devices. for me I have to download a  same show for 3 times.
I Hope there is some way that can make the old music app back.

I agree, i tried to do what i always do at my office today on my ipod touch, connect to the wifi at the end of the day to download new podcast episodes for my subway ride home, and instead, iTunes with the ios6 update installed yesterday won't let me do that, it tells me i need the new Podcasts app, fine, i go install it, and then when i go back to music, it tells me my podcasts are moved, i go to the new app, so over i go.  The new app is slow, crashes twice trying to get into it, i can't see any way to make a playlist, i managed to download some new episodes, but can't see how to make a playlist still.  I found out how to delete it (and doing so brought back Podcasts and my podcast playlist to the music app, huzzah!!)
The Podcasts app is not the quality i want from Apple.  I like my ipod, i really do, but it seems Apple is convinced that whenever they make a change they think will make things better, they delete old ways of doing things that work for us, the real people in the world using their devices.  I like the notion of a stand alone app for finding and downloading podcasts, but why does that necessitate removing them from the music app to play since primarily i download all my new podcasts at night, listen to some on my computer while working at home, put them in an itunes playlist in the order i want to listen to them, then sync each morning with my PC to have whatever i haven't listened to in a playlist so it can play all day at work while i'm there.
Hopefully Apple can learn from this and the ongoing Maps debacle to maybe not be so quick to tell their users how we have to use the devices, and instead spend some time listening to how we use the devices to make our experience better rather than enforcing how they want it used on us.

  • How can How can I download the Podcasts app to my ipod touch

I have a iPod Touch with iOS 6.1.3.  The podcast app was not working so I deleted it.  I tried to download/reinstall from iTunes on my PC but it gives an error saying it "requires a newer version of iPod software" (odd since the app was on the device before with the same iOS version).  I also tried going to the iTunes on the device but can't find the app there to down it and the iTunes app keeps crashing.
Is there a version of the Podcast app that works on an iPod Touch?  If so, how can I get it downloaded?

I am having the same issue and it is very aggravating. The only thing I use my Itouch for is podcast and now it is useless, so frustrated at the moment.

  • Can I use the Podcast app like the older iOS 6 Music Player?

I've updated to iOS 7 and iTunes 11.1 and found that things seem drastically different.
How i used to do podcasts:
Subscribe to a podcast in iTunes on my Mac
Sync to iPhone using a cable
    What used to happen:
Podcasts that were selected to sync did if there were unplayed episodes
The Music player would list only those podcasts where there were unplayed episodes
Now things have changed.  I immediately was told that none of my podcasts were playable without the Podcast app.  I downloaded it and installed it.
    What is happening now:
Still subscribing to a podcast in iTunes on my Mac
Sync to iPhone using a cable
Podcasts showing unplayed in iTunes on my Mac = 46
Podcasts showing unplayed in the Podcast app = 57 - the difference appears to be that the podcast app is showing non-downloaded podcasts
Podcast app showing all podcasts whether or not there are any to play.  The list includes podcasts that are not supposed to sync to my phone.
The Podcast listing appears to be in a random order (actual list shown)-
    Apple Keynotes (no episodes)
This week in Photo (8 episodes)
    Jake and Amir (no episodes)
    Podcast Beyond (no episodes)
    Accidental Tech Podcast (no episodes)
    Vector (1 episode)
Podcasts with no new episodes now show a new episode though it looks like the episode is not downloaded
I'm not sure why what is being shown in iTunes is not being shown in the Podcast app.
Is there anyway to get the old behavior using the Podcast app?

Additional information.   Can this be right?
I spoke to Apple support who said that the settings for podcast syncing in iTunes are no longer being used since Apple moved to their Podcast app.
This may explain why I see all 45 podcasts on my iphone when I only have 15 of them set to sync.
She also said that I would need to manually sync listened/unlistened podcasts between my Mac and my mobile devices since podcasts were no longer being synced from iTunes.
    Can anyone verify?

    1. I do not know if this will help you or not. In researching this issue with my wife's iPhone 5c 8GB, the most common answer you will get is to adjust this or that setting, and disable this or that App. These at best are only a band-aide solution at all. The best reply I got was from a Verizon Rep that stated "By design, iPhones do turn off WiFi when they go dormant. So if a download is in progress, or information is being back-up wirelessly and the phone goes dormant, it will switch to use cellular data if it is left on". Afterwards, I discovered the exact same information here on the Apple Support Forum to support this statement.
    2. Later onward, I read that if you keep your iPhone connected to a power source, it will prevent it from going dormant. In which case, this will prevent the iPhone from turning off the WiFi, and keep it connected to the WiFi. So far, this has help the most in controlling the amount of data usage being used, by my wife's iPhone.
    3. Now about looking at the detailed usage summary online, you can not go by it to see the exalt date/time stamp of the data usage. Because, by design the cell towers will collect and store certain data usage for up to a six-hours period. After the six-hour period, then the cell towers will release the stored data usage to the company's servers. And at that time, the collected data usage will be recorded on your detailed usage summary online. For a long time, I brainwork that I had caught Verizon with their hand in the cookie jar for say. Because I knew that we were not using data usage at these odd-ball hours of the night or day. Yet, now I have learn that this is just not the case.

  • Very unhappy with new podcast app...how can I get podcasts back into normal music app or possibly go back to iOS5?

Just "upgraded" to iOS 6.0.1. Thanks to the new "Podcast App" I can no longer keep my podcasts combined with my music. I don't want access to search new podcasts, but seems like I'm forced to have access to this section of the iTunes store as it comes with the podcast app, even when the iTunes store is turned off in the Restrictions section under General Settings. I can probably tell iTunes that my podcasts are really "music" by using the "get info" option in iTunes, but then it won't let me listen to it at double-speed, which is the only way I listen to podcasts. I'm very frustrated. Is there anyway around this or a way to "downgrade"?
If any Apple folks are listening please give us the option of how to listen to our podcasts. It's pointless to have to download one more app when it worked great the way it was. What is the point of separating them??????

"in which case it will" force install the app ... So Yes iTunes will force install the app as I said. My gripe is with Apple yet again forcing a change onto their customers. I use iTunes for sync, so no matter how many times I delete the crappy app it will be forced back on me at the next sync. Most apps have a "remove" option in iTunes but not podcasts. Again, there is no way to stop that I can see. If you know a way to stop this iTunes behavior please document it here. Thanks at least for these forums for aggrieved Apple customers having a chance to find solutions to these issues.

  • How to delete podcast header in Podcasts app?

I am using the Apple iOS 6 Podcasts app on my iPad.  I have some podcasts that I listened to and then deleted.  There are no more episodes in the podcast series, but the header for the series (name of the podcast, artwork, etc) still appears in the podcast list showing "0 episodes".  I want to delete this podcast header, but cannot see how to do it.  Does anyone know how?
As FYI, I do sync my iPad to the iTunes library on my Mac.  The podcast is not present in my iTunes library - it only appears on my iPad.  I thought that sync-ing my iPad to my iTunes library would make the podcast header disappear, but it does not.

  • How do I get the Podcast app to keep playing even after a longer break?

So I´m using the Podcast app in order to be able to stream content without having to use Itunes. So far so good. Now, If I pause the podcast I´m listening to, the track information will stay accessible via clicking the screen or double-clicking the home button to access the Iphone Controls/Multitasking bar. For a while, that is.
If I stay away from the Iphone for a longer period of time, the memory of the track being played mysteriously vanishes, If I try to press "play" as described above the currently listed song in Itunes will instead start playing. So what I then have to do is access the Podcast App again and hope that I can find the episode I was listening to again (which of course I don´t keep track of - no pun intended).
I´ve tried changing the order of the app icons in the Controls bar, but they seem not to want to be moved.
Any tips? True continous play would be an awesome feature as I listen A LOT to podcasts.
Btw this forum is awesome. Just saw somebody replying A4-style to an apparent Troll. You show true love, guys

    HI,
I doubt it is a bug.
In Messages > Preferences > Messages you can set the Font, It's Colour and the background (default Balloons) colour as well plus of course the size.
This should stick if you Own the .plist that this info is written to (And the folder that it is in)
You should also have Read and Write permissions.
In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to Folder and type in ~/Library/Preferences
Find com.apple.ichat.plist  (yes messages till uses this one)
    highlight it
Do a Get Info (CMD and iKeys together)
In the Info Panel at the bottom your name followed by (me) should appear.
Highlight this and then use the little cogwheel icon under the list.
A phrase saying make yourshortname (me) the owner should appear and it should be greyed out if you alredy Own it.
In the list you should be showing Read and Write Permissons
    Like so
Whilst the Preferences folder is open go to the View menu of the Finder and SHow View Options and hit Show PAth Bar.
Right click on Preferences in the Bar and select Get Info and check you Own this and have Read and Write permissions
    Repeat for Library.
If you can't write to the .plist the info you change will not be saved.  (This includes having access to the folders you have to navigate to get there).
If you are using the Format menu then this is letter by letter or word by word changes.

  • HT5295 How do I play video podcasts on my TV via the Podcasts app? After iOS 6 upgrade, I'm unable to do this.

I used to be able to play video podcasts on my TV by connecting my iPod touch to the TV via an Apple AV cable.  Now that I've upgraded to ios 6 and the podcasts app got installed along with the upgrade, video podcasts will no longer play on my TV.  It should be noted that other video content (movies, TV shows, etc) will play properly.  Is there a setting I need to make that will fix this, or is this yet another bug with the podcasts app? Also, I have to say that I'm not happy at all with the Podcasts app, so if there's a way to uninstall it without harming the functionality of ios 6, that would be great.

I found a workaround that puts podcasts back in the video app as well as the music app so you can watch them on TV via an AV cable again.
The instructions can be found at this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaI9GwPKXkE
    In short:
    1. Make sure both the music and podcast app aren't running on your iPhone.
    2. Plug your iPhone into your computer and disable Podcast syncing for your iPhone in iTunes.
    3. Remove the podcast app from your iPhone
    4. Plug your iPhone into your computer again and turn on podcast syncing, then sync.
    5. Turn off and then back on your iPhone.
After I did this, I found podcasts had returned to being listed in my music and video apps.
    Hope this helps you too!
