Poor quality apps

I've been reading reviews of some apps as I've been looking for apps to load up on my iPhone and the reviewers state that a given app won't work on their phone. Is this due to an incompatibility with other software? Too often I've been told by a Mac OS developer of desktop software: You are having problems with our software because you have X, Y, Z software installed and there is a conflict. Is the same thing a concern on the iOS?
Being new to the iPhone and Apples App Store business model, if an app doesn't work on my iPhone, is there a way to get a refund. And if several people are commenting that it doesn't, how does it get into the app store in the first place?
Curios as to what sort of quality control is there before an app is allowed to be sold in iTunes.
Just trying to educate myself on how things work on this platform. I've bought apps for my Blackberry that haven't worked on my phone due to a technical glitch in the software and I've been refunded my money.

I have never experienced a problem with any 3rd party software on my Mac when the developer for the software blamed a problem with their software on another 3rd party software. Total BS on the developer not taking responsibility for their poor coding. I can't remember the last time I've had a problem with any 3rd party software. Please provide an example regarding a 3rd party OS X app on your Mac you had or have a problem with - name of the app, the problem with the app, and the other 3rd party app or apps the app developer was blaming your problem on.
Regarding the app reviews for iPhone apps, what is the overall rating for a particular app you are referring to and does every single review available for the app indicate the app does not work? Which minimum iOS version is required for the app? Do some that say the app doesn't work are running an earlier iOS version the app is not compatible with or an iPhone model the app is not compatible or fully compatible with? Some people providing a review are bonified idiots so you need to take some of the negative with a grain of salt unless a particular app has an overall poor rating and every single review provided out of hundreds indicate the app does not work on any iOS version or iPhone model, which I think is rare. Apple does not do extensive testing on each and every app. If a paid app does not include a website and contact info for the developer along with technical support, I would avoid it unless the app costs only a buck. If an app has a free and paid version and some do, try the free version first.

  • Poor quality images on Slideshow

    Hello all,
I recently downloaded Aperture from the Mac App store - seemed to good a bargain not to and I was already considering upgrading from iPhoto 08.
I imported all my pictures (along with the captions) into Aperture and created a slideshow from an album. I was quite disappointed to see that the image quality was really poor and very grainy. The photos themselves were fine in the album - but not so in the slideshow.
I thought this may have been down to importing from iPhoto, so I experimented by adding other images directly into Aperture. The same slideshow quality issue arose. I also possess a MacBook Pro and decided to re-perform the steps described above. The images and slideshow are absolutely fine on my MacBook pro.
I wish to maintain my photo library on my main iMac and will be very downhearted if Aperture cannot give me the same picture quality on slideshows that I achieved in iPhoto. Can anyone help me figure out why I'm suffering from poor quality images in slideshows on my iMac?
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon.

    Hi Simon,
Aperture uses the image Preview in Slideshows:
_About Displaying Sharp Images in Slideshows_
To display slideshows at the best quality, you should set Aperture to create high-resolution previews. In addition to setting previews to their highest resolution, you should also use full-size previews to prevent upscaling with large displays. If previews are not available, images in the slideshow may not be as sharp as they would be otherwise. For more information about creating high-resolution previews, see Working with Preview Images.

  • Poor quality/customer service from Digital Services LLC (Microsoft's provider of Wallet Cards and etc.)

    Hi All,
I recently chatted with MCP support to inform them of poor shoddy service by their provider of Wallet Cards.  Has anyone else had any problems with quality/service with the below provider?  If so who can I contact to report the problems I had with
    them?
Below is a copy of the statement I provided to MCP support:
I ordered a wallet card quite awhile back.  Upon delivery I discovered that it was very poor quality and some of the lettering "Solutions Associate" was very faint.
I contacted arvato digital services LLC to report it.  They requested that I send them a scanned copy of the wallet card.
They then agreed to replace it.  I was told that it would ship 12/17/2013 and after a month or so of not receiving it I contacted them again and Daniel apologized and said it had gotten lost in production.
I was then promised a ship date in January.  I had to contact them again and I finally received it today 2/7/2014.
The papers that came with it said my credit card would be charged.
To summarize:  I was shipped a poor quality card which took them over 2 months to replace,
no improvement on the card still looks like the first one they sent me and finally they said my card would be charged .... AGAIN?
I want Microsoft to know what very poor service arvato digital services LLC is providing to their Members and how I can get a quality card replacement without any additional charge.
I offered to  send the second poor quality card received and also the back and forth emails requesting that they resolve the problem.
By the email time stamps they will see the very long length of time it has taken to resolve this issue and the fact that it is still not resolved.

Same here. I just received them today (21/02/2014). Very very disappointed.
I ordered the Solutions Expert & Specialist Card. Both are terrible beyond all recognition.
Both photos in the cards are blurry, unlike the ones I previewed in the design page. Just like you said, the lettering ('Solutions Expert' & 'Specialist') on BOTH cards are very faint.
I even ordered the 'Specialist' card in German just for curiousity's sake.
On the bottom at the back of the card where you find the "Download the Tag reader app at: http://gettag.mobi" sentence, I found this incomplete (and perhaps just to show their level of incompetence) sentence:
aden Sie die Tag-Leseanwendung hier herunter: htt
Missing the first "L" and the incomplete "http://gettag.mobi"
First, you discontinued the MCM/MCSM program and the whole works last year. I know this is a very different thing and has a very big difference (and revenue). Now you showed the (lack of) care even for the tiniest bit of a Microsoft Wallet Card.
I see no use of contacting Arvato, just another time-wasting effort, third party subcontractor and all that.
    Guys, forewarned is forearmed.

  • HT5429 Poor quality and missing Street View from Apple Maps - any alternative?

Is it just me, or are other appalled by the poor quality and loss of key functions in the new Maps app.  Newbury has replaced Gillingham Dorset!! It also has no Street View which I use when visiting unfamiliar places. Apple appears to be prioritising its own interests above those of the customer by releasing something greatly inferior and of poor quality.  Also interested to know if people value "3D Flypast" when living outside London over the much more useful Streetview?
Does anyone know where we can go to get Streetview back?  I found I can still use Google Maps which has been a relief, but it doesn't have Streetview.

Thanks Diavonex.  Have tried this, but it doesn't have Streetview which I find really useful when driving somewhere unfamiliar.  I used to be able to enter the postcode and see what the place looked like.  I could also look at difficult junctions and other landmarks.

  • My new 4GS is taking really poor quality photos, how can I improve them?

I'm trying out the camera on my new 4S and am shocked at the poor quality. I've taken the same photo in the same light etc with my 3GS and the image is much better, I can see more detail and the texture is smoother. My 4S images look terrible!
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a way to alter the settings? Thanks in advance.

Hi there, i am an iphoneographer from OZ, and i am having the same issue, i have switched from iphone 4 which was upgraded to IOS5 to the 4s with the IOS 5. Since owning the 4s i have had nothing but noisey pictures in low lighting conditions, including cloudy days night time occasions indoors ect, even when using flash.
I have used different apps, including the standard apple cam, king camera, Pro cam, Focus Plus, and the quality is all the same with the noise, but yet when i take the same pictures with the iphone 4 (which my other half has now) in the same lighting they are fantastic quality. I'm not clear here what the issue is as being an iphoneographer/Photgrapher i though i knew a fair bit about the iphone but this has really stumped me and left me no choice to send out a call for help and ask if other people out there are in the same boat, and have any advice on what possibilities could help fix this, as i miss the quailty on my iphone and dont want to have to swap back to it. Cheers LJ

  • Very poor quality on photos made with iphone 4

Since a few weeks i've noticed that photos made with my iPhone 4 have a very poor quality. I've upgraded to IOS 4.3.2 thinking about a software problem, but the quality is still very poor. It´s like out of focus. I submit a just made photo. Any answer? Thanks a lot.
This photo is made with original photo app and no zoom.

Only thing I can think of is a focus problem (which could be software) or a lens with some junk on it that causes some blurring.
Can't offer a solution but can make some suggestions.
Take  different types of pictures and, just for variety in case it reveals something, take two of each - one touching the screen and then one after touching for comparison.
Do close-ups and distance shots.  Do indoor and outdoor, with and without flash on the indoor - again, of the same thing so you can compare.
Might reveal a pattern.  If all are bad, then it probably goes back to the lense or software not working.
If some come out fine, it would seem to reduce the chance of it being the lens being dirty or something.  On the other hand, if close up shots look good but distant ones don't, it could be either software or the internal focusing hardware isn't adjusting enough for distant shots.
    Just some things to consider.

  • IPhone 5 flash on camera stopped working when taking photos & poor quality photos

iPhone 5 camera flash  stopped  working when taking  photos and poor Quality photos . Flash still works when in torch mode .

    Hey there Jimbo,
It sounds like your flash has stopped working on your phone and you noticed a decrease in image quality.
I recommend a few troubleshooting steps here. Start with closing the running apps on the phone:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the phone and test it again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists, I would next backup your device to iTunes, and restore it:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • Camtasia Poor Quality in Premiere CS4 Export

I am a PC user. One of my clients uses Mac and Camtasia to screen capture his software program, which I need to integrate into a video I am making for his company. The MP4 Camptasia file he sends me looks good. I bring the file into Premiere to edit it, but when I export it, the clip done with Camtasia has very poor quality, while the footage I shot with my video camera looks great.
    Specs:
    Camera: HMC40, PH mode 1080/60i (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 compression).
    PC: i7 quad-core 64-bit running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, 8 GB RAM.
Editor: Premiere CS4 in the Adobe CS4 Master Collection .
New Sequence setup in Premiere: AVCHD > 1080i > AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) Anamorphic.
    Premiere’s export settings:
    Format: MPEG2
Preset: HDTV 1080p 29.97 High Quality
Multiplexer tab > Bitrate and Buffering Details: Variable
Video Tab > Basic Video Settings > Quality: 5
    Field Order > None (progressive)
    Profile > Main
Bitrate Settings: Bitrate Encoding: VBR 2Pass
      Minimum Bitrate: 4 (default)
      Target Bitrate: 15 (default)
      Maximum Bitrate: 18.5 (default)
    GOP Settings > M Frames: 3 (default)
      N Frames: 15 (default)
Output summary: NTSC, 1920X1080, 29.97 drop frame (fps), Progressive, Quality 5.0
Note in general: I found that if I set the Bitrate Encoding at VBR 1Pass, I got glitches sporadically.Using VBR 2Pass has solved this.
My question about the Camtasia clip:
    1) How can I get the Camtasia footage to be as sharp in the export as in the original?
    Other questions in general:
    2) Are my New Sequence setting in Premiere correct? AVCHD > 1080i > AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) Anamorphic
    3) Is my choice to export as MPEG2, HDTV 1080p 29.97 High Quality preset, the best for the footage I shoot?
    4) Is my choice to set the Multiplexer tab > Bitrate and Buffering Details at ‘Variable’ the best?
    5) Do my Bitrate and GOP settings need adjustment?
    6) Should my Export field order be Upper instead of Progressive?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    The frame rate is 1038 X 882
That is a very odd frame size, and one that probably won't work well no matter what workflow you use.  You asked:
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
how could he better capture and export to match my workflow?
Have him capture and export to match your desired export frame size for the finished project.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
How would you suggest I change my workflow to handle the interlaced and progressive issue?
I can't answer that until I know exactly how you intend to deliver your finished video.  Any answers to your other questions will also likely depend on your intended delivery format and media.

  • Extreme poor quality in full screen preview and exported movie

I have spend evenings and evenings to create the content of a project.
After dealing with error -108 and extreme poor quality in full screen preview and in exported movies (extreme stuttering) I decided to install my iMac new again.
The error -108 disappeared, but the extreme stuttering still remained in full screen preview and in exported movies.
If I make the preview screen in the iMovie browser as big as possible there is nothing to see of any stuttering.
Now I am getting pretty annoyed and have no clue what to do anymore (how to solve this problem) .....
    Anyone any suggestion ?
The orginal video was recorded with a Panasonic HD camcorder.
I do have a mid 2011 iMac with 16GB ram and 256GB SSD and 1TB HD with a complete clean installation
of OS X Lion and iLife. This configuration should be enough to create a proper movie :-(

Potentially, yes. The standard Preview is 1024 pixels, longest size. Some people (like Omke) have displays 2560 pixels longest side, potentially increasing file size by over 500%.

  • DVD poor quality

I just created a DVD but the video quality is too poor to use.  I get 'ghosting' or flicker with motion, which is 99% of the content.
A client gave me 14 home-made DVDs containing video of high school basketball games and asked me to create a highlight video.  I edited the VOB files in Premiere CS4 (4.1.0) to pull highlights and compile them into a single highlight DVD.
I exported the video to Adobe Media Encoder (4.0.0.374) to create a F4V file to be used on websites.  I used the standard preset.  The quality of the F4V video is good.
I then used Adobe Dynamic Link to export to Encore CS4 (4.0.0.258).  I burned a DVD and the result was a DVD with poor quality.
There is a brief clip in the highlight video that I recorded myself of the athlete providing a short introduction of himself.  That clip and the still titles I made look good on the DVD, but the highlight clips from the client's DVDs are very poor.
From some of the discussions I've already read in this forum, I assume I need to change a field option or the Anti-flicker value under Effect Controls or something similar, but haven't figured out what yet.  Also, when I make changes to values, do I have to burn a DVD to see the result of the change or is there a better way to preview?
    Thanks for your help!
    Dan

It is very likely that the double MPEG-2 encoding is degrading the material too much. Is it possible to get back to the client's original tapes? That would save one MPEG-2 compression. Otherwise, what you have is probably as good as it will get.
    Good luck,

  • Poor quality text in PDF

I am using Acrobat pro X to produce an online brochure. I started producing the brochure in Corel draw using A4 paper size in landscape mode. When I created the PDF by the print command the general quality was very poor, both graphics and text. I experimented with various settings increasing the quality settings for images but it didn't seem to have any significant effect. I then tried placing some of the elements in a Word document and creating a PDF from this document, and again I found that the results were unsatisfactory, a bit better than from Corel but not very good. I have converted many Word documents to PDF in the past without problems. I started a new Word document and this time copied a template for a landscape brochure from Microsoft. This was already populated with some Text-and-Graphics. When I created a PDF from this it was quite good. It was not clear to me what the difference between my basic word document and this new one was. I went through the documents’ settings with a fine tooth comb and the only one I could find was different was the paper size and orientation. I then copied some of my graphics and text to the word brochure document, and this to converted nicely to PDF. I took a note of what appeared to be a somewhat unusual paper size and copied this to the Corel document. When I created a PDF it was now significantly better all the paper size was wrong. I went back from scratch with both the word document and the Corel draw document (those which produce bad PDF files) and carefully made sure that the paper size and orientation in the document matched the PDF settings. But the result was still poor in this case. It is not clear to me what is causing the problem although it does seem to be mainly text, the graphics are often okay. The text however is extremely patchy looking and very poor quality.
In the Acrobat settings I started with "high quality print" default setting and edited this. When I selected the fonts section there were no fonts selected for embedding. This surprised me as I would have thought high-quality print would automatically embedded all fonts. I selected the fonts in my document and embedded them and saved the settings, but when I went out of this dialogue box and straight back in it showed up with no embedded fonts. What's happening here? Is it for getting about my font selection? Or does this dialogue box when you re-enter it not reflect the current settings? Furthermore when I completed my modifications to the "high-quality print" default settings it asked me to save them as a new job options file which I did, but when I go to print a second time it never gives me the option of selecting these saved settings.
I have tried almost every permutation and combination of settings page sizes et cetera and I now tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to simply get a reasonable quality PDF file. Any assistance on these matters would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Michael
I am using Corel V 13 and Windows 7. The issue is not confined to Corel as I am also getting poor results often with Word as described. I also need to know about the font embedding as described above. Is it the case that if the fonts are  embedded this
guarantees they fonts display sharply in the PDF? i.e. do the scatty fonts in the PDF prove I am not getting embedded fonts?
Corel does have a printer driver compatibility setting where you can set the target printer, but the PDF virtual printer is not available in the list.
    Thanks
    Murray

  • Saving a Project In Pages, Images Poor Quality in PDF

I have just purchased IWork 09, i am new to pages and so far find the software very handy and easy to use to make very attractive documents.
    i have one dilemma though.
i save a (e.g.) poster in pages, but when i go to open it in PDF Preview, the images that i have inputted into the document are distorted or of a poor quality, when i open them in pages they are fine?.... also when i go 2 open the saved document in Adobe Reader 9, it wont open? i tried taking frames and shadows etc out just in case they are not supported, like in MS Word but still no luck. i have to send flyers for advertizment via e-mail to clients who are more than likely using Windows Xp or Vista.
if some one could help with
    1. Getting my images to stay good quality
    2. opening it in adobe 9
it would be very much appreciated

You can not see which programs have been involved in each compression, but as far as I know, at least some programs store information about both themselves (last edited by) and the compression level in the exif/iptc data.
The right way to work is to get as much data as possible off the colour capture in high bit and do the exposure correction getting into a normalised colour space either still in high bit or in scaled down 8 bit to save space.
The pixels should be left alone from this phase and out. It is not necessary to change a single source pixel either in matching to the display, the printer or the press. All of this is done on the fly in memory and not be changing the pixels in the disk-based image document.
As interchange file format for corrected colour captures stored in the normalised colour space, either use a linearised RGB space or high-bit CIELab. The file format should be lossless TIFF and not lossy JPEG (the way JPEG works internally is lossy by definition).
Live Picture and Apple Aperture are alike in the way they work. Rather than taking the pixels into memory for correction, which is they way Photoshop worked, they construct a colour managed proxy for manipulation and then provide for a rendering that is non-destructive.
Live Picture required ColorSync 2 and Apple Aperture is unable to work without colour management for the same set of reasons. Apple Pages is unable to work without colour management for the same set of reasons, although there are additional reasons for Apple Pages.
    Just my ten cents,
    /hh
