Pop up menu colour problem
Hi,
I tried to make a navigation bar in fireworks with a pop-up
menu as well. I set the colour for the nav bar to be the same a s
the web page its used for. However when I insert the resultant
nav-bar into dreamweaver and preview it the colour is very grainy.
Could anybody help with this? You can see what i mean if you look
at www.hearttohand.net
thanks
How did you export the images? Or did you do that
explicitly...? Hmm.
I know Fireworks can save HTML, but don't use it. Export your
images and give them real, meaningful names and build the navbar in
Dreamweaver. Do you even know what this image is:
<img name="navbar_r1_c1"
src="images/navbar/navbar_r1_c1.gif" width="800" height="7"
border="0" id="navbar_r1_c1" alt="" />
Make your mockup in Fireworks. Set slices and name the slices
so that you get image file names like home.gif, news.gif, and
history.gif to work with in Dreamweaver.
When you go to export your slices (File>Image Preview in
CS3), set your palette to Adaptive or Exact, rather than Web 216.
Adaptive or Exact palettes will use the colors of your image,
rather than dithering (which is what looks like is happening for
you) or shifting your colors.
Also, for your banner, you should export at a higher quality
level on the .jpg image. You have quite a bit of noise in it.

"Show Pop-Up Menu" behavior problems
Greetings—
The "Show Pop-Up Menu" under Add Behaviors is grayed-out and

The functionality has been REMOVED as a primary function in

allow you to edit a LEGACY MENU, but not create a new menu

Pop up menu link problem in MX
I've added a test pop up menu which isn't working. The drop down 'New Link' links to www.taxaccount.co.uk/cgs.html but it doesn't show the link when clicked although the drop down does show. I've also uploaded the mm_menu.js file but no joy. Any ideas what to do to solve the problem please?
Your link code is being processed to search
for: http://www.taxaccount.co.uk/www.taxaccount.co.uk/cgs.html
which, as you can see, contains your domain name twice.
Change target code to target just cgs.html
Now that you have provided the link to the problem page, we can see the call for the remote javascript
<script language="JavaScript" src="mm_menu.js"></script>
located just above your </head> tag -

If the first sentence is true, then you should not use the
pop-up menus. In
fact, nobody should use them. There are much better ways. The
FW pop-ups
are poorly conceived and poorly implemented, and will cause
you much more
trouble than you save by using them.
> I should add that I am using version 6.0 with on a Mac

In addition to the pop-up menus, version 6.0 was just as
troublesome. There
were many unfortunate problems with that release version. You
should update
to 6.1 at your earliest convenience (use the updater at the
Adobe site).

I built a new pop-up menu for my website using Spry in Adobe Dreamweaver. Because of some differences in .HTML and .XHTML
it took me days to get it right. I tested every variation in Firefox until it worked perfectly. Today, I installed the newest version of Firefox and now the pop-up no longer works. I changed the preferences in Firefox to disable to pop-up blocker and it STILL DOESN'T WORK...although an older style of pop-up menu (menu machine) which is no longer supported by Adobe, DOES WORK.
HELP!!! THIS IS IMPORTANT.pixlor:
OP is using CS3 and the menu blog is talking about the menus
in earlier
versions of FW, so *most* of the points made in the blog
don't apply.
That's not to say that using CS3 pop-up menus is a *good*
thing....

Problem with pop up menu created in fireworks
I have created a banner with buttons and added a pop up menu to them.
They work perfectly with-in Fireworks.
I then export page to dreamweaver and both banner and buttons display properly but I cannot get pop up menu to show at all.
I want to choose each menu and make the links with-in dreamweaver but cannot get pop up top show.
I am using CS5 and would appreciate your help.
AlSO I AM STILL LEARNING SO IF YOU COULD KEEP IT AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.HELLO AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY. I HAVE CREATED A QUICK BANNER WHICH IS SIMILAR TO THE ONE I WANT TO CREATE. THE LIST OF BUTTON ARE PLACED INTO MY BANNER AND I HAVE ADDED POP UP MENUS TO ALL WITH 3 CELLS DEEP DROPPING DOWNWARDS. WHEN I VIEW THESE IN PREVIEW IN A WEB BROWSER FROM FIREWORKS THEY WORK PERFECTLY. THE PROBLEM IS THAT I DON'T SEEM TO BE ABLE TO MOVE THIS PAGE TO DREAM WEAVER AND HAVE IT DISPLAY THE POP UP MENUS. THEY WILL SHOW AS AN IMAGE AS IT IS SEEN HERE BUT WILL NOT DROP DOWN IN PREVIEW BROWSER IN DREAM WEAVER. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO SELECT THE INDIVIDUAL LISTS IN THE DROP DOWN MENU AND CREATE LINKS TO VARIOUS PAGES WITH-IN MY SITE IN DREAM WEAVER. IT MAY BE THE CASE THAT I AM NOT EXPORTING IT PROPERLY OR SAVING IT CORRECTLY.

Help! Pop-up menu problem
I made a pop-up menu in a trial version of Fireworks 8.
Everything works great within Fireworks, but when I try to insert
it in Dreamweaver 4 (using the Insert Fireworks html button) it
tells me that I need to insert an Fireworks html that was exported
from Fireworks. The pop-up menu I made was exported as an html from
Fireworks. Help!I don't think you are going to have much success trying to

I put a pop out menu on the second navigation button on this
site. I used the dreamweaver 8's behaviors panel to create it.
In two of the pages the index and the music page the pop-out
menu does not appear when published to the internet.
It does appear when I preview in browser window. I cannot for
the life of me figure this out. I have tried changing
the non- choice in the target window to _parent or _blank and
it still doesn't show up on the internet. I appreciate any and all
help.
Any one out there with some advice?
Thanks,

Yes, but you aren't going to like it. I wouldn't recommend
that anyone use
those menus in DW8. There are much better ways -

Hey guys,
This is the first time I've been working with fireworks, so you might have a little patience with me. I'm a hard-learner.
Here's the deal: I'm about to design a little website and wanted to use a selfmade pop-up menu, since I don't like the designs of the menus fireworks offers.
I've cut the page into segments, dragged each of the little cross lines in the middle of their own segment and chosed a status.
And that's where my trouble starts. I have 3 statuses, but I can't get them to work right.
So when the mouse is over the word "team" in the navigation bar, the word "team" changes color and size as I wanted it, and a little pop-up menu appars underneath it.
status 1-> status 2: works!
But when I roll the mouse over the single names that appear in the pop-up menu of "team", I want them to change the color as well and as it is described in status 3, but it won't.
status 2 -> status 3: doesn't work!!!
So what's the problem? What did I miss or do wrong???
Hope you guys can help me.
So longHi Linda,
so this it is. I'm not really familiar with .png files, but I assume, that you can "experience" effects like mouseovers with that, right?
So the problem is, when you roll with your mouse over team, three names appear. Now I want the background of these names to change again to a different colour, when the mouse is moved over these names. I hope you understand what I mean. -
ICal 5.0.3 Repeat pop-up menu not appearing
I created a new calendar and then copied events from the previous year into it. Now I'm trying to set events to repeat yearly, but when I pull up the event, I'm not getting the pop-up menu that allows me to reset the time or repetition. This problem only seems to happen in the events I copied from the previous calendar. Is there anything I can do, short of re-typing each event?
Using iCal 5.0.3, I used to see a "repeat" option for events on my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.7.5) and on my iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1), but the option has disappeared, both for new events and for existing events opened for editing. iCal on both the MBP on iPhone syncs to iCloud.
What could have happened to the "repeat" option? -
I have a pop-up menu in the first cell of every row with three choices (and I may add more at a later date). I want the fill color of the row to change depending on which thing is selected. Is this hard to do?
Hi,
In essence the same as Wayne's answer, but with a slight modification to fit to duplicate your 'color the whole row' specification. The final result, with Table 2 slid behind Table 1, is shown.
Table 2 is a single column table with the same number of rows as Table 1. The table is resized to match the full width of Table 1.
In A2, use the formula =Table 1::A2 to copy the value from that cell in Table 2. Fill the formula down through the rest of the column.
Select all the cells in Table 2 (except the header row), and apply conditional formatting rules such as those below.
Note that the Conditional Format rules are set to apply the same colour to text and fill in the cell, so that the text disappears.
When Table 2 is ready, select it, then go Arrange > Send to Back.
Before sliding Table 2 behind Table 1, Select Table 1 and use the Table Inspector to set the Cell Background to None (see red arrow in illustration). If This table has a Header column, you need to select the header cells independently and again set the Cell Background to None.
Now select Table 2 and drag it to a position partially under Table 1. When you see the blue alignment guides on both sides, or at the top and bottom, of Table 1, release the mouse button and use the arrow keys to nudge Table 2 into its final position.
Regards,
Barry -
Best way to create pop-up menu's
Hi All,
I have been having a heck of a time doing something that i
would have assumed to be relatively simple - specifically creating
a pup-up menu.
My first set of approach was to dynamically create a movie
clip on a button rollover, and within that movieclip create several
other movie clips that i then assigned actions too. The problem was
that since i applied a action on "rollout" on the initial movie
clip, it became a button, and as such all of the sub
movieclips/buttons became in active (any click was only detected on
the parent).
My second set of attempts have been around the MenuComponent
(see other posts), but here too i have hit problems, initially with
animation and depth. I solved the animation issue, but the depth
problem remains.
Now, i see pop-up menu's everywhere, so i assume that this is
a relatively simple problem - so what am i missing. A google search
showed up lots of examples of how to do using menu that are created
in the UI (rather than purely in AS), using purchased components.
The first case is not an option since i need to create it fully
dynamically, the second would be an option - however i typically
need a far greater level of visual control than off the shelf
components provide (hence i have needed to build up my own class
library for many common tasks).
So after all that, i have a simple question.
"What is the best way to create a dynamic popup menu in
AS2?"
Regards
NeilI guess you want to make your own popup menu, if I understand
correctly. Nothing simpler, your first attempt was in the right
direction, you just don't assign button actions to the parent clip,
because you won't get the child clips to work, but add another
child at the lowest level inside the parent, that acts as a
"background" clip/button.
And for the rollout for the entire popup, you can add a
transparent clip just under the popup (which is at the currently
topmost depth) covering the entire stage, give it rollover that
acts as your rollout, and make it not use the hand currsor, so you
can't tell it's there.
That's how I do it, anyways.. -
Dreamweaver 8 Behaviors for pop-up menu
I am a novice user of Dreamweaver 8. I created a site using
pop-up Behaviors for a dropdown navigation bar. I've read about a
lot of problems others are having, but part of my problem I have
not been able to locate anywhere.
After I created my template and want to save changes to the
template and update the files based on this template, I go thru a
series of JavaScript errors. It never updates any files in the end
and sometimes shuts down the program. An example of ONE of the
error messages is:
At line 1654 of file "C:\Program Files\Macromedia/Dreamweaver
8\Configuration\Behaviors\Actions\Show Pop-up Menu.js": The
function saveDocument() is currently unavailable.
The more pages attached, the more error messages I get....
all are .js errors.
The other problem is the links from the pop-up. I've double
checked them in the behavior pop-up menu... they appear to be
correct and sometimes work, but not all the time.
Everything I read says that I should create the navigation
with pop-ups (drop down menus) in Fireworks. Is Dreamweaver that
unreliable that this can't be done within itself?
If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong to receive these
errors and how to correct my links so they are reliable, I would
very much appreciate it. I have recreated this site 6 times and the
errors are consistent.
Thanks, cjbyrnes>I am a novice user of Dreamweaver 8. I created a site

You read about all these problems, yet you pressed ahead and
used them? Why?
DW's Pop-up menus are incompatible with DW's templates.
Embarrassingly sad,
but true.
Did you read about and investigate any of the many
alternatives posted?

The last time I tried to do rollovers with a pop up menu in
Dreamweaver 8. It wouldn't work. So I'm searching for another way
to do it.
I created navigation using Fireworks - follow link below to
example. But when I mouse over the rollover that has a pop up menu
attached to it (First link on the left) the rollover images
disappear. Also the drop down menu tends to hang down longer than I
would like.
Can my problems be fixed? Is Fireworks the right tool for
this task?
I had down loaded a trial of the latest version of
Dreamweaver a few months ago and it seemed that this feature had
been deprecated, but there was some sort of plug-in. I'm far from a
casual user, but it was beyond me for the weekend I tried to use
it. Also, this is a bad time for me to invest in new software or
upgrades.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Example of rollover and
pop up menu problemDon't use Fireworks to make HTML,
especially interactive HTML. Fireworks is a great tool for
making Web graphics, but it is
NOT
good for making HTML. Don't go there. You won't be happy.
