Populate archive logs from production (Solaris) to new production(Linux) db

I want to migrate my production database(Solaris) to different environment(Linux)
After production database migration my production database(Solaris) will be up and running for 2 days.
We are going to check applications for 2 days on temporary production(Linux) database.
For 2 days my primary database(Solaris) will be up and running and generating archive logs. After that i want to populate those 2 days archives to temporary database(Linux).
Question 1: How would i populate 2 days archive logs from primary database(Solaris) to new production environment(Linux)
Is there any way/utility do apply generated archives to different database?\
I would be thankful for any expert suggestion.
Thanks,

Is there any way/utility do apply generated archives to different database?\They have to be applied to the same database (identified by DBID).
As soon as you OPEN the Linux database (and do any transactions therein), it diverges from your Solaris database. You cannot apply archivelogs of the Solaris database to the Linux database.

    Hi All
    Our prod database was running in Archive log mode and now it is in NO Archive log mode. I deleted all archive logs from the disk but I can still see them in v$archived_log table. How do I delete them from this table.
    Environment is Oracle8i(8.1.7) running on Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
    Thank you

    Hi,
    Recreating the controlfile is the only way to force a cleanup of all entries in v$archived_log.
    You can see information on Metalink Note:1012929.6

    Edited by: user10243788 on Apr 25, 2010 6:12 AMPointing the archive log dest (and/or the FRA) to a new location, or enlarging them, will do no good if you are not performing regular housekeeping on the archivelogs. You will just keep knocking down the same problem over and over.
    If you simply delete the archivelogs at the OS level, the database will never know about it and it will continue to think the destination is full, based on records kept in the control file.
    For regular housekeeping, you need to be doing something similar to this in rman:
    run {
      backup archivelog all not backed up 1 times tag='bkup_vlnxora1_arch';
      delete noprompt archivelog all backed up 1 times to device type disk;
    run {
    delete noprompt obsolete;
    crosscheck archivelog all;
    delete noprompt expired archivelog all;

  • Clone database with no archive log mode and downtime with new file structure

    We need to clone database with following business requirements :
    No downtime at all can be afford
    databases are in no archive log mode
    data-file locations need to be change to new mount points while cloning for space management factor
    Please suggest the best possible methods for same ?

    Can you post your version of oracle in 4 digits and OS for better understandig
    I dont think you can move the No Archive database to a new location without shutting down.
    You just want to move them to the new mount points is it?
    1. How big are your datafiles are?
    2.How do you backup this DB?
    When you move the datafilles then it becomes inconsistent and you need redo logs and probably archive logs to be there to make the file consistent or else it would be prompting for recovery. The chances are your redolog will be overwritten and hence you wont be able to recover.
    You need downtime.

    at standby:
    configure archivelog deletion policy to none;
    By the way i'm using Oracle 10gR2 patch4 on RHEL 5
    and till now the database won't delete the archivelogs automaticaly, since the current available size in the flash folder is only 2MB.

    Hi,
    I have a different issue, I am not sure i can combine on the same thread.
    From the DOC, this command is appeared to be useful. I am not sure if it can be applied to my environment.
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY
    We have some databases with DG configuration on Sun. We take the backups only primary using RMAN online & archivelog alternate days. But, the archivelogs on standby are to be deleted every day manually (i mean we have a script scheduled for it).
    Note: We use "delete input" on primary backup every day after they are backedup by RMAN. Anyway, the logs that are not applied on standby will not be deleted as RMAN is intelligent to keep them safe.
    In the past we attempted to delete using rman script with the command shown below.
    delete archivelog all completed before 'sysdate-2/24';
    This causes a problem every time for us with regard to the primary database Backup as it expects the archivelogs on primay which were deleted by RMAN on standby. We had to crosscheck archivelog all every time to resolve the issue. There seems to be a mismatch of the archlog status both on primary and standby.
    Please let me know if the above configuration command "CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY " on both primary and standby or give an idea/steps what way i can use this.
    Regards,
    Vasu.

  • Streams from 9i Solaris to 9i Suse Linux

    I am looking at replacing a materialized view log replication scheme from an Oracle 9.2.0.6 Apps 11i database running on Solaris to a 9.2.0.6 database running on Suse Linux with Streams. I haven't seen any info indicating that the hardware and o/s must be homogeneous only that the compatibility parameter must be 9.2.0 or greater.
    Does anyone know if this is/is not possible?
    Thank you!

    This setup should be possible.

  • Pushing management agent from a Solaris machine to a Linux Machine?

    Hi There,
    Currently, the enterprise manager OMS resides on a solaris system, however, we have new hardware on a LINUX. From the enterprise manager can I push an agent to a target on a LINUX machine?
    Thanks,
    J

    I hope this link is helpful its for 11g. it might work for even 10.2.0.5 and above. First you will need to download the agent script for Linux based on the platform either 32 or 64 bit. And after you download the script( I usually use wget) make it executable using
    wget http://host1.servers.com:4889/agent_download/11.1.0.0.0/linux/agentDownload.linux (32-bit)
    *$ chmod 744 agentDownload.linux*
    *./agentDownload.linux -b /u01/OracleHome -m host1.servers.com -r 4889*
    and you can follow this link.

    For example, while transferring 70 MB of file, the connection is getting aborted after transferring 11 MB.
    We confirm from the network team, that there is no issue with router or PIX.

    Hi,
    You can sending few files of different sizes eg 10MB,20MB,30MB.....
    and you will know the problem is from the SIZE of the file or something else.
    I our case we are using compression boxes to ship data between production and DR site.

  • Question about only new archive logs backed up in backup

    Hi,
    We are taking daily two online backup. We are running database in ARCHIVELOG mode. We configure database in PRIMARY and PHYSICAL STANDBY mode. Till now, we were taking all archive logs in backup. But it was causing problem of lot of space utilization of disk.
    So based on search in this forum, I am planning to take only new archive logs generated since last backed up using following command.
    BACKUP ARCHIVELOG all not backed up 1 times format '$dir/archivelogs_%s_%t' FORCE;
    I am not sure about how it impact during restore and recovery when we take only new archivelogs in backup.
    We restore database and then after perform always incomplete recovery till latest SCN capture in backup using following commands.
    RESTORE DATABASE;
    RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL SCN $BACKUP_LAST_SCN;
    Do you see any problem/risk of implementing this solution going ahead?
    Please let me provide your thoughts/inputs for this.
    Thanks.
    Shardul

    Hi,
    We are not deleting archive logs from actual location after backup. We keep latest 6 days archive logs at actual location. But here we are planning to put only new archive logs in backup image which were not backed up due to disk size problem.
    For your reference below is our datbase backup RMAN commands. We are taking full database backup.
    run {
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL C1 TYPE DISK;
    delete noprompt archivelog all completed before 'sysdate-5';
    SQL 'ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT';
    BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL=0 CUMULATIVE format '$dir/level0_%u' DATABASE include current controlfile
    for standby force;
    SQL 'ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT';
    BACKUP ARCHIVELOG all not backed up 1 times format '$dir/archivelogs_%s_%t' FORCE;
    BACKUP CURRENT CONTROLFILE format '$dir/control_primary' FORCE;
    Then in this polich do you see any problem when we restore database as PRIMARY or PHYSICAL STANDBY on server. We are using Oracle 10.2.0.3.

  • Deleting the old Archive Log Files from the Hard Disk

    Hello All,
    I want to delete the old archive files of Oracle. These files are very old and consuming very huge disk space.
    Is there any way by which I can delete these files from the Hard Disk?
    Can I directly delete them using the Operating System Command?
    Will it cause any dilfference to the normal functioning of my Database?
    If I need to delete these files, do I need to bring the database down?
    Please guide me.
    I need to do this activity to make some space free on the Hard Disk.
    Thanks in advance.
    Himanshu

    Hi.
    Keep archived logs from time of last backup and forward to currenct time on disk together with the backup itself. And keep older archived logs together with older warm/cold backupfiles on tape as long as there is enough capasity or following your recovery strategy. This way you might be able to roll forward a recovery without restoring these files from tape which often the faster.
    Older archived logs can be deleted manually, with scheduled OS script or automatically with RMAN.
    Good luck

  • Recovery using Full BCV backup & archive logs

    Hello DBA's ,
    I have Last Sunday's Full BCV (Buisness Copy Volume) backup (i.e. ..... the tablespaces were taken into Backup mode then Sync the BCV, then split the BCV , take the backup of BCV and take the tabespaces in normal mode in short what we call as HOT BACKUP ........ ) & also I am taking only archive log & control file backup Daily.
    Now I want to Run my database on Different Server using the above FULL BCV & daily backed up Archive logs & Control file.
    Kindly update me- Can I go for following recovery steps for above scenario.
    1) Install ORACLE software on new server.
    2) Restore the last Sunday's FULL BCV (Hot backup)
    3) Restore the archive log from last Sunday's Full BCV backup.
    4) Restore the latest backed up control file.
    5) Mount the database.
    6) Recover the database using backed up control file & archive logs.
    7) Open the database with RESETLOGS option.
    Please Guide me whether I can Fully Recover/Start database on this new server using above steps. ---OR---- " Are there any more files except data files that need to be backed up daily after Full BCV ? " ---OR ---- More suggestions are Welcome.
    I want to test this scenario bcz.
    a) I can't afford daily BCV due to lack of storage with current retention given by buisness.
    b) I can't afford long time taken by RMAN for backup & recovery, as it disturbs my other backup shedules, also RTO should be very low as per my buisness requirement.
    c) Currently we are not thinking for any another Backup options.

    we are using oracle 9.2.0.8 my production database has dr(our dr is not a stand by it is created in diff way) server every time one cron job sync the database and transfer the new logs from production server to dr server. i want to know last applied archive in dr server.i am using this query select max(sequence#) from v$log_history; it is showing same results in boath production and dr when ever we backup 2 days before archive to some backup directory sync is going to fail

    As you are running cron job to bring the dr in sync, i suppose v$log_history might give you the wrong results.In your case check :-
    select sequence#,applied from v$archived_log where applied='YES';
    select max(sequence#) from v$archived_log where applied='YES';Would like to know, why manual recovery (archive logs being manually applied) is being performed, and not automatic.
    In case you switch to automatic below query would be useful :-
    select al.thrd "Thread", almax "Last Seq Received", lhmax "Last Seq Applied"
        from (select thread# thrd, max(sequence#) almax
                from v$archived_log
               where resetlogs_change#=(select resetlogs_change# from v$database)
               group by thread#) al,
             (select thread# thrd, max(sequence#) lhmax
               from v$log_history
                where first_time=(select max(first_time) from v$log_history)
               group by thread#) lh
              where al.thrd = lh.thrd;Refer [http://aprakash.wordpress.com/2010/07/21/use-of-varchived_log-and-vlog_history-on-physical-standby/]
