Populating list with connected GPIB interfaces

I'm working on the setup section of an APP in Delphi5.0 using the GPIB-32.DLL and am a little baffled. Ni supplied this little gizmo that searches for GPIB interfaces (not devices). I would like to emulate this functionality for my application in a setup wizard sort of way so the end user can simply select from a list of 'detected' interfaces. In looking at the DLL calls they all seem to require previous knowledge of the device location. So I'm wondering if there is a set range of possible Primary and Secondary addresses I can use to just loop through searching for an interface. I'm assuming here that anything that wouldn't toss a failure when sent a Pri/Sec Address would be a set of valid device ports. On that note...
are there some specific commands to issue that will return a string telling me exactly what it found on that Pri/Sec address?
Thanks!
CT

Ok.. I made some progress. Using SendIFC and ibfind, etc, watching NiSpy I have determined this is coming back as an Integer and other Ni applications use the Init_DA_Brds to obtain a translation of the integer to descriptive title. However I don't have access to that and the only reference I found of the device list codes is from 1999 which does not include some of the newest hardware including the USB based devices.
Is there a newer list of product codes available?

  • Auto Populating List with Dates

I'd like to create a SharePoint list wherein each row/item has a Start Date and End Date along with some other fields.  Each item will correspond with a week and I'd like to pre-populate the list with a good number of "weeks".
Not too hard (if tedious) to do manually, but is there a clever way to get this done without doing some scripting?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you want to auto populate list with Dates.
I recommend that you can use caculated column.
You can use the formual as: =Created+7. Then return date type as Date and Time.

  • Problem creating mailing list with Server Console

    Hi,
when I create a new mailing list, I do the following:
    1. Right click on groups folder in Console
    2. Choose New->Group
    3. Entering all data and checking "Mail Account" under Account
The documentation sais, that a Mail-tab should now appear. But this is not the case for me!?
I can only create the group like this and have to add the attribute "mail" - to enter an email address - manually..
Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong or missing something? Also disallowing posting on this group can only be set manually. Shouldnt all this be done using a nice GUI dialog?
I'm using Directory Server 5.2 Patch 2. Also tried 5.2 Patch 4. Both same problem.

  • Trouble starting Gpib interface(code 10)

I am getting touble with the interface, in the measurment and automation tool, when i tried to scan for the instrument then it checks for the software and says ok and for the hardware it says ok but it says it failed because of the interface hadnt started (code10).. I really dont know how to solve the problem, i appriciate your help, and my phone number is 301 975 3789.

    HI,
Microsoft describes the error as: "This code means that the device failed to start (for example, it is missing or is not working properly). To resolve this error code, make sure the device is attached to the computer correctly. For example, make sure all cables are plugged in fully and that all adapter cards are plugged into their slots fully."
What GPIB hardware are you using?. What OS? Make sure you are using the lastest driver for your Hardware/OS combination. Check the drivers at Gpib Driver updates.
Try installing the interface in another PC to determine if there is a hardware problem with the GPIB interface.

  • GPIB instruments connected through Agilent USB/GPIB Interface can bee seen in MAX but can't communicate in labview

I have an Agilent 82357B USB/GPIB Interface connected to my computer.
Attached to that, I have two lock-in amplifiers (an SR830, and an SR
850).  I would like to be able to communicate with them through GPIB.
I have downloaded and installed the software for the Agilent device
(Agilent IO Control), and I can see the interface and the two devices
in that software.  Here's what is configured in this software, that I
    can see:
The VISA interface ID is GPIB0, and its address is 0
The VISA addresses of the devices are GPIB0::4::INSTR and GPIB::12::INSTR, and the GPIB addresses are 4 and 12
In Measerment and Automation Explorer (MAX), I made sure that the
Passport for Tulip box was checked.  Once it was, I could see the
devices in the Configuration window under Devices and Interfaces ->
Miscellaneous VISA Resources.  There, I see GPIB0::INTFC, GPIB0::4::INSTR and GPIB::12::INSTR.
I can right click on either of the instruments, and "Open VISA Test
Panel" where I am successfully able to send commands and read from both
    devices.
HOWEVER, when I am running an actual LabView program, I am unable to communicate with the devices.
For example, when I try to communicate to the devices through VISA,
using the 'Basic Serial Write and Read.vi' (while VISA Resource Name is
    GPIB0::12::INSTR), I get an error:
Error -1073807331 occurred at Property Node (arg 2) in VISA Configure Serial Port (Instr).vi->Basic Serial Write and Read.vi
    Possible reason(s):
VISA:  (Hex 0xBFFF001D) The specified attribute is not defined or supported by the referenced resource.
When trying to communicate with them through GPIB (which is what I want
to do in the end), using 'GPIB.vi' I also get an error.  Here, GPIB
address is 12, and I am just trying to give it the command *IDN?
    GPIB Write returned error code:
EDVR: Error connecting to driver or device
    What's going on?

You can use VISA Write and VISA Read. You just can't use the example called Basic Serial Write and Read because that is specifically for the RS-232 port. The GPIB-VISA is one of the shipping examples. Start the example finder and go to the search tab. Search for VISA.
Again, no you cannot use the GPIB functions with a non-NI controller. The low level functions for an NI board and an Agilent one are completely different. You can rewrite the driver to use VISA or you can rewrite it to use the low level functions that Agilent provides. You use the Call Library Function Node, I believe to access their GPIB driver.
I hate to say it but the $20 difference between the Agilent and the NI controller does not seem like much of a saving.

  • SELECT LIST WITH SUBMIT NOT POPULATING

I have 3 fields; They are ID, Shortname(PRIMARY KEY), Longname. Longname is a select list with submit based on an lov (called system_longname description) that has a return value of ID. I need to select a value (longname) from that list that will populate automatically the ID and Shortname fields. This is the code I'm using for ID and Shortname, which are both text boxes. The view VSYSTEMS is where the lov is getting it's values.
    'SELECT ID FROM VSYSTEMS WHERE ID = :SYSTEM_LONGNAME DESCRIPTION';
    'SELECT SHORTNAME FROM VSYSTEMS WHERE ID = :SYSTEM_LONGNAME DESCRIPTION';
Can anyone help me? I keep getting these error messages: invalid SQL statement or SQL command not properly ended.

    Matthew,
Is this a follow-up to Automatic field population by selecting a LOV ?
What is the purpose of 'DESCRIPTION' at the end of each query?

Is the HP3885A an IVI compliant instrument?  Can you use an IVI driver with it?  Even if there isn't one available, or if no users respond with a driver, you could use the IVI Class drivers, if it is classified as an IVI device.  Also, have you submitted a request a driver?

  • Problem retriving data from OSA MS9710 with GPIB interface

    Hi all,
I'm trying to read data from Anritsu OSA MS9710 using a GPIB interface and a terminal software in computer. However, I am not having sucess with it. Anyone know how can I do this? or another way to read this data without needing a floopy disk?
    Thank a lot!

Anritsu has a LabVIEW driver. I don't know what kind of terminal software you are talking about. Most terminal emulators are only useful for RS-232. You can use MAX (Measurement & Automation Explorer) to communicate. Nor do I understand how a floppy disk could help.

    Hi neilchuang,
A read timeout error is usually caused by an error on the command string sent.
The first thing I would check is if the instrument requires a termination character at the end of each message (such as linefeed). I noticed in the Spy capture that the commands do not have a termination character attached. This means that the instruments never recognized that you completed the query command, it doesn't execute the requested action and as a consequence of that it doesn't have any data to return.
One question: Is the instrument detected by MAX when you scan for instruments?. If yes then you can assume that the GPIB software and hardware are properly installed. The scan for instruments sends the *IDN? (terminated by a linefeed). You can right-cli
ck on the instrument entry in MAX and select "Communicate with instrument". Notice that at the end of the command the linefeed is included (\n).
Double check with the instrument manual if the commands sent are the right ones.
Finally, there is an instrument driver available in the idnet library: www.ni.com/idnet. Search for 3631. Since you are working in C you can use the LabWindows/CVI Plug and Play driver. Even if you decide not to use the instrument driver, you can still use it as an excellent reference on how to program with the instrument.
    Hope this helps!.

  • N6705B connectivity via GPIB interface in UNIX

     Hi
i had an N6705B device my requirement is like below
I need to control this device via an GPIB interface in linux PC.
for the above i am using an GPIB to GPIB cable and connected the N6705B and amy linux device.
Now i have to connect/login in to the N6705B device and do the settings like setting voltage for the DUT (IC chip) and collect measurement for various test scenarios of DUT.
For example i have to set the input voltage as 3.7v to my test device(which is an wifi device) and connect it to an access point(connection will be done manaully) so during the connection stage i have to measure the current consumed by the device (taken across power amplifer).
I think there are SCPI commands whcih i notice in the AGilent 14585 control software which do the same (the software support is there in windows 7 via an GUI), is there any posibility now this commands i can send to the agilent N6705B device by logging into it from a linux PC.
    Thanks

  • Troubles with Agilent gpib/usb interface

I have a problem to use Agilent 82357A gpib/usb interface with NI VISA (os Win98). I have Visa3.0.1. I did all what is written in file niinfo.htm, which containes some advices for running the agilent gpib/usb card with NI software(it is in directory prog. files\agilent\IO Libraries\readme\trouble\) and I also tried most of advices written on the web pages of ni.com. In MAX3 I can only see "miscellaous VISA resources". When I run NIVISAAIC, I can communicate with interface as well as with instrument attached to it. When I close nivisaaic, it returns arror message, that program performed unauthorised operation in module agvisa32.dll. It indicate that trouble is between libraries of NI and Agilent. I tried to install agilent gpib/u
sb driver in many ways, only SICL, or SICL + agilent visa (secondary, side by side), but nothing works. When I run Getting started wizard in run-programs-national instruments-Ni.488.2, it detects no gpib hardware, even MAX indicates some "miscellaous VISA resources". Is there somebody with experiences how to solve this problem.? Thanks

    1. I have tried method 1 in that KB you have adviced me. I uninstalled Ni-Visa and instaled HP-Visa (is not clear from the KB description, if HP should be primary or secondary, side-by side. I tried both configurations). Of course MAX does not find gpib board in any case. To solve this problem in the KB is written "you must right-click on the control or constant and select "Allow Undefined Names." In this step I stopped, because in the MAX I did not find where this "constant or control" is. I tried to do right-click on "devices and interfaces", but only "Create new..." menu appears. The right-click on anything in the MAX does not open the menu which contains "Allow undefined names". Can you please, specify where this right-click should be done to allow undefined names and to continue with method1 to reach the goal of using LV for data aquisition.
    2. Then I tried method 2 from the KB. I have uninstalled HP-visa; HP-SICL and Ni-Visa3.0 is installed, NiVisaTulip.dll passport is allowed and F5 refresh made. In MAX in the section Devices and Interfaces I can see "? Miscellaneous VISA resources" with "GPIB1::22::Instr" (it is for one device with address 22). Instead of "? Miscellaneous VISA resources" I expected, there will be written something like GPIB1(USB-GPIB). In this point I have few questions.
    a) Is it correct if there is only "? Miscellaneous visa resources"?
    b) If I configure usb/gpib card with Agilent config. utility to SICL name gpibn and visa name gpibn, where n is some integer, MAX shows everytime gpib1. There is only one gpib card installed in the PC, so I expect there will be gpib0 in the MAX.
Now, when I run nivisaic, I can see gpib interface named gpibn with gpibn::22::instr. I can communicate through this interface to the instrument in the session opened by double-click on the resource. In the Nivisaic there is also another interface marked as unknown-gpibn::intfc and gpibn::servant. I cannot communicate with this interface. When I install HP SICL with HP visa as secondary, side-by-side, this "unknown gpib" disappears. Then nivisaic seems to be OK(but MAX still shows "? miscellaneous visa resources"),the status of each operation in NI Spy is succesfull. I think I did everything required in method 2 of KB but, I cannot perform any data aquisition by LabView. Are there further thinks to do for starting data aquisiton? Thanks for any advices.

  • Populating dropdown list with entries in multiple text boxes?

I'm creating a form that needs to be simple to use and complete.  I would like to be able to populate a drop-down list with entries the user puts into text boxes.  Can this be done?
    For more detail:
In one location is a table, the use will type into a text box a Project Name, then other information such as location and total acres.
In another location I've got a table where the user will enter the offerings from each project they listed in the 1st table.  It is a long table as it is, I cannot combine the two (will not fit on one page if I do combine them).
Instead of making the user type in the project names multiple times, I'd like to be able to take the project names the users input (from table one) and have those entries automatically populate the dropdown list in the second table.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Not exactly a find and replace but you can do it.
Select the text frames yu want to change the colors using the shift key to click select the frames.
Then go to Edit>Edit Color>Recolor Art
You wll see a dialog with red and black bars along side two shorter bars click the shorter bars to select a New Color a color picker will appear you can use the swatches or the color mixer.
There is a live preview /so you will see the change in case you want to pick a different gray, of course you can always go back to the recolor art dialog.
I am afraid you manually have to select text frames with multiple colors in order to accomplish what you want but the method above I believe is the only want to change the colors.
This video shows how the dialog works but pretend the one frame I did not select is another color.

  • Problems using 488.2 commands with Agilent 82357 interface

Hi, I need to send a large file to an instrument in chunks using the 488.2 commands sendsetup and senddatabytes. When I try to use these commands I just get an error saying 'NI-488: Error connecting to driver or device'. The interface works fine using visa. I’ve tried the obvious in checking that the bus address is correct and I believe it to be.
Anybody know what I may be doing wrong or if its possible to do it another way? I’m starting to wonder if its an issue with it being a non NI interface.
    Thanks

    Hi,
We have done trade-ins in the past with 3rd party hardware, and this may be an easy solution for you since we do have a USB-GPIB interface available that does Standard and HS gpib (you didn't say if you were using the A or B variant of the Agilent 82357.

I'd suggest contacting your local sales office (+44 1635 572400 for the UK) to find out if this is acheivable in your case, or to arrange a loan to see if that in fact fixes the issue and makes the option more practical.

  • What exactly is happening/failing when "GPIB Interfaces sequentially verified" FAILS?

I have an AT-GPIB/TNT+ card installed in my computer. It fails the "GPIB Interfaces sequentially verified" portion of the Wizard program. I am able to communicate (IBIC) with my instruments, so it appears that all is working well. I do have older non-compliant GPIB interfaces so the "Scan for Instruments" does not work. What exactly is failing in the Wizard and what can I do? I have windows 95.0.

    Janet,
Typically when the installations fails the sequential verification, it is due to either a resource conflict or a device being connected to the board during the test. You can click on the failed interface to get a brief explination of what may have caused the error.
There are instances reported using the AT-GPIB/TNT+ board and Win 98 inwhich this error was reported even though there were no problems with the board's setup. Since you are communicating properly with the board through IBIC your board is functioning properly, and I would not be concerned with the error message.
As for your instrument, this is likely due to your instruments non-compliance to 488.2 standards. Whenever the Measurement & Automation Explorer does a "Scan for Instruments", it sends out the stri
ng "*idn?" (which is an IEEE 488.2 identification query string) to all of the devices on the bus. If you have older, non-IEEE 488.2 compliant instruments on your GPIB, then they will not recognize this string as a valid command. This will cause "Scan for Instruments" to fail.

  • (Trouble printing) Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510.

Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510. (Nothing Prints).
I have a Macbook Pro and am having difficulty printing documents from ‘Pages' from my Hp Deskjet 1510. I have installed the necessary software for the printer and it is connected via USB. Every time I try to print the printer icon comes up as it should, 'printing' and then 'job completed' and then the icon disappears. (Nothing is printed.) I thought it might be something to do with Pages compatibility with the printer but exporting the document to Word or making it a PDF doesn’t change anything. I don’t have Microsoft Word on my computer. The scanner does work and when I printed a ‘Test Page’ that worked too.
Let me know if you know why this is happening.

With these settings the network now works flawlessly, however, when i have my ethernet cable plugged in, my internet access via my airport card(on the macbook pro) is no longer available. Hoping you can tell me why this would be with this info i've provided.
Educated guess. The networking devices have priorities as to which are used. The standard order is that Ethernet has a higher priority than Airport.
While your Ethernet is unplugged it is inactive and the Mac ignores it. Once you plug it in, the Mac sees that it is active and switches traffic to that interface.
I actually take advantage of this feature at home, but configuring my Airport and Ethernet with identical fixed IP addresses. Normally I'll use Airport, but if I'm copying a huge file and I want faster performance, I'll just walk my MacBook (previously iBook, previously Powerbook) over to my Ethernet switch and plug in my MacBook. Magically, the Mac detects that the Ethernet is active and continues the file transfer uninterrupted over the faster 100baseT Ethernet connection. When the transfer is finished, or if I really need to move back to the Comfy Chair, I unplug the Ethernet cable, and all activity reverts back to the Airport, all without disrupting any existing networking connections.
You on the other hand have totally different settings for your Ethernet and your Airport, so when you switch to Ethernet, you basically loose your Airport connections.
    Something you can try:
    System Preferences -> Network
Gear icon on the bottom left, next to the [+] [-] icons.
    Select *Set Service Order...*
Now Drag the network interfaces into the perfer priority order you want. In this case put Airport above Ethernet.
NOTE: You may want to create a new Network Location for this, instead of messing with your normal home Location (which is most likely the default Automatic. That way you have your original you can always fall back to.
