Portal 3.0 Install on NT 2K

I have FINALLY completed the Portal 3.0 installation on Window NT 2000. Here are my steps in order to help someone:
1) Read MetaLink Doc# 132445.1 and ensure all the database size requirements are met. It mentions JServer should be successfully installed.
2) Read MetaLink Doc#103855.1 and and ensure all the requirements for JServer are met and then walk through the JServer installation.
3) Go back to MetaLink Doc#132445.1
4) If this is a 2nd attempt and the Installation screen disappears, read MetaLink Doc#130093.1 where it guides you to restart/reboot your server and leave the 9iAS installation CD in the CD-Rom drive. After the restart/reboot the 9iAS installation will continue.
I found the most important steps were having enough space in the SYSTEM tablespace, enough space Rollback Segments, large enough 'pool' settings in the init.ora parameters.
I hope this helps someone out there.

No, you must have 1.0.2.1 of the middle tier in order to run Portal 3.0.8.

Hi all, I try to install the portal source code and compile portal source code on the development computer. It does not work. I use Visual Studio 2002. Now I can not start the portal server. I got the error. I delete source code from webapp\portal folder. I still get the following error.

Can not access login.jsp or test.jsp after Portal-To-Go install

After installing HTTP Server edition of Oracle Portal on Windows 2000, we were able to access and work with the Portal itself.
However, we still can't figure out what problem we have with Portal-To-Go. We ran and configured postinstall of Portal-To-Go with no errors according to the instructions. But after trying to access http://host_name.domain/papz/test.jsp or http://host_name.domain/papz/login.jsp we get "You don't have permission to access /papz/parm.jsp on this server." (we use dev6.unitas.com as our host_name.domain.
Any ideas? Please Help!

I like to confirm my understanding. You installed 9iAS HTTP Server option which includes Oracle Portal and Oracle Wireless (portal-to-go). These are two separate features in 9iAS. After installation, did you include wireless parameters in your apache/jserv configuration files per 9iAS Wireless installation guide? For example you need to alias in httpd.conf, ApJservMount in jserv.conf and wrapper.classpath in jserv.properties.

Oracle Portal demo MyCompany installed on UNIX?

The Portal demo MyCompany that we can download from OTN has the prerequisite: 9i AS Portal installed on Windows NT/2000.
In the ZIP file of that demo is a script to install it on Windows but there is also a shell script to install it on UNIX.
I am interested in installing it on UNIX, could I use that script or will I run into any problems.

I can't find this info in the install docs, and passing command line options
to the wlportal400_win.exe program doesn't seem to do anything.
Anyone know where I can find this info?

From the portal docs it doesn't look like there is an unattended installation
option. You might try posting this question on the portal newsgroup -
weblogic.developer.interest.portal, in case I missed something.

Can't find portal service after installing the Sneakpreview

I am using Windows Xp pro pack2 system in my laptop and Sneakpreview Full Java Edition-Trial version. I have installed Sneakpreview par1, part2 and part3 with no error message. Then I opened Developer Studio to create a portal application. The following thing I did is upload the applcation to portal system. This is the setting for my portal system.
     alias: myportal
     host: localhost
     port: 50000
     login: I use my winxp login name on it
     description: blah......
However system gives me the error message:
    PAR upload failed. please make sure the server myportal(localhost:50000) is running. HTTPS protocol is not supported,please ensure this server is not using HTTPS.
Could anyone tell me what should I start the service. Your help is much appreciated.

1. Check out the settings in Windows --> Preferences --> SAP Enterprise Portal --> add the server.
2. Also check the SAP J2EE Engine config. Check the entry for Message Server Port. typically it is 3601or 3903
3. Goto Windows --> Open Perspective -- >J2EE Developement --> it will open a window in NWDS. Click on J2EE Engine tab, see if the servers are really running. All servers status should be in green color.

Portal 7.2 Install - Port:: Unable to verify port.

I have been attempting to install Portal Server 7.2 on Solaris 10(5/08). I have sucessfully installed Access Manager and Directory server from JES U1. However when i tried to install the Portal Server, I got "Unable to verify port" error. I provided the default port of Sun Java Application Server 9.1, 8080. Could anyone please suggest a way out of this impasse please, I will be much obliged.

Can you look in the installer log file (it should be created in /tmp/install*.log or in /var/tmp).
It should tell you why the SIMS Backend was unable to initialize. Some things to check:
- Your system should have the rpm tool installed at /bin/rpm
- Do you have have any old, corrupt RPM DB entries? You can clean them up with
rpm -e `rpm -qa|grep sims-product`

Portal Platform SR1 install hanging

Hi,
I am currently installing Portal Platform on J2EE 6.40 SP11. the install is "hanging" at phase 2 of phase 13. the machine is still running, processor usage doesnt go past 2%. is this normal because of deployment or something else?

Check the sapinst_dev.log and see which step it is hung at.
Often you can simply stop/start outside of sapinst and then retry inside sapinst - BUT - always make certain that no deployments are ongoing or you will end up with a worse problem.

Where to download and how to install Oracle AS Portal ?

I'm using portal servers from BEA, IBM and JBoss since several years. I bought a book on Oracle AS Portal which showed me a couple of interesting things I wanted to look at. Surprinsingly enough, this book doesn't start as normally, with how to download and install the product. This already seemd a little bit wear to me. But when I tried to find by myself the Oracle AS Portal bundle to download and install, I didn't find anything. Looking in the Oracle AS 10.1.3 documentation, it seems that Oracle AS Portal is not a part of it. I finally managed myself to find some documentation saying that in order to install the last version of Oracle AS Portal, one should install Orackle AS 10.1.2.0.2 and upgrade afterward to Orcale As Portal 10.1.4. Yes, but when I tried to install Oracle AS 10.1.2.0.2, I dind' find any option concerning the portal. There OC4J, ther is Infrastructure (identity management and other things), development kits but not portal.
So could someone explain what does this big mistery around Oracle As Portal mean exactly and how to download and install it quickly ?

First you would need to install the infrastructure which in itself should include the Identity Management and the metadata repository, which portal uses. Then after you're done with that, you can then start the installer again and choose to install the application server (the middle tier). When you're installing the Application Server, it asks for more options. You may choose just to install a J2EE server..in your case if you want portal choose the corresonding option that contains portal. If you're wanting to install Forms/Reports services, you'll need to select the corresponding option. Hopes this helps you get started.

How To Configure Or Intialize Portal Installed With BI7.0 - Step By Step

How do I configure or start working on portals which is installed as part of BI 7.0 installation that is EP and EP Core(Includes BI-JAVA and ABAP Stacks).
Please help me out with possible guidance(if possible Step by Step procedure) how to set up the parameters and at which locations in BI.. I have kept couple of days exploring this site, but I couldnt fine one answer relating.
More over the answers I could find was "To configure technical content, business content and bi admin cockpit," Any help or suggestion provided is grealy appreciated and points will be awarded accrodingly.

Installing NWDI in Existing SAP Portal

hi experts,
My project currently require to retrieve and modify ESS (personal information) standard code since the standard personal information in ESS will not meet our requirement.
I found out that i need NWDI installed in our environment in order to retrieve ESS (personal information) standard code.
my consideration is that we already implement several custom ESS using NWDS for SAP Portal.
By installing NWDI, will it have any impacts to existing custom ESS (using NWDS)?
I already tried to search through forum, but haven't find the answer.

Download the NWDI Component from service market place with same version and SP level.

Deploy the NWDI component througth SDM or JSPM. Once finished you can access with http://<Host>:<Port>/devinf
For designing track for ESS/MSS, refer to the JDI cookbook. for your custom development you can migrate to the NWDI.

Portal install hangs at 61%

I have install ias9 on several machines using different Linux distributions and they all seem to hang at 61% of the portal configuration assistant install. I am now trying it on a P-III 1Ghz with 512MB ram and it has been sittingat 61% for about 6 hours. CPU usage still at 100%.

I too downloaded the 9iAS installation for Linux from OTN. I am also experiencing the same problem you are...here's an excerpt from the $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/opca/install.log:

It appears that SCOTT has already been created, data installed, and then tries to create the user again...SCOTT already exists and the install hangs.
What I did to get around this is open a separate xterm and executed:
tail -f $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/opca/install.log
Then when it got to the point shown above where it was trying to create SCOTT I opened up another xterm and executed:
ps -ef
It showed me (excerpt):

I assumed that process 31286 was the one trying to recreate SCOTT. I double checked that the user did exist by querying DBA_USERS from another box and the user did in fact exist. So I killed process 31286 with a gracefull exit request:
kill 31286
...and the install continued until 100% completion. Note that after the install was completed, the processor on my database box was pegged at 100%. I had to kill the process on the database side that was trying to recreate SCOTT. Looks like the Portal install script isn't quite right for the 9iAS for Linux install I pulled down from OTN.
I have yet to attempt to connect to the Portal installtion as it was late and I needed to get some sleep. I will try to connect to the Portal installation this evening to determine if it was a success.
I hope this information helps.
My question to Mr. Lincks is: Have you perform this installation on the Linux platform? If so, was the installation performed from media supplied by Oracle? I too have performed the installation several times on Solaris and on NT with downloads from OTN, however, I did not have a problem like this one from the Linux download.

New portal v7 install

We had a vendor install PS7 and for some reason, the portal files are installed under the "admin" instance within appserver. When I questioned the vendor, they said this is the default install for PS7.
This makes no sense to me, if I need to bounce the portal instance, I cannto do it from the web interface because it shuts down the admin instance, I then have to go to the console and restart the admin instance by hand.
Shouldn't the portal web applications be under a seperate instance than the admin instance?

Note that Adobe requires you to uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
