Portal content transport between the systems

Hello,
I am trying to understand the methodology of how the Enterprise portal or any Java systems transport the objects between the landscape like Dev to QA and Prod.
How is the common shared directory / trans - designed and used in Java systems.
Please throw some lights on how this can be implemented..
Thanks,

Hi Addy,
I assume you are referring to transporting PCD objects like iViews, Pages and Roles across different environments?
This link might be helpful for your scenario: [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/c5/56599164d0c04cb566ba0e2d7ed55c/frameset.htm]
The "Configuring Transport" section explains the different transport parameter in the Portal, including setting import/export folder across environments.
You can also use CTS to transport portal objects, but CTS is more of an add-on to the standard portal tools.
Hope this helps!

Aditya

  • Is it possible to do portal content transports through System landscape?

    Hello,
In order to transport content from portal A to portal B I am currently using transport packages: export the content from portal A, download it to the local PC and import it to portal B. The process is working OK but I still have a question:
SAP are transferring all the control on their systems to the System landscape, for example Java developments. My question is if it is also possible to make these transports through the system landscape so no local PCs are involved in the process?

    Hi Roy,
You are right in the point that development projects can be transported, using the NWDI, centrally managed through the system landscape.
Nevertheless, the PCD transports (EPA) have to be touched manually anyhow. Theoretically, you can set up an SDA and put an EPA into it, see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/a3/782240da03e569e10000000a155106/frameset.htm for details.
But this only really makes sense if you want to transport your own application together with the portal configuration (iViews representing your application...).
So in the end, PCD transports are designated to be transported as you are used to - manually via the export / import function of the portal.
    Hope it helps

  • Portal Content Transport help!

    Hi,
I created some "Remote Delta Links" in my Development Portal that point to IViews on my Dev BI System.  When I transport the "Remote Delta Links" from my Dev Portal to my Prd Portal the reference is still to my Dev BI System.
Why would they still be point to my Dev Producer when transported to my Production Portal?  Sounds like a transport configuration issue.
    Anyone?

Hmmm..  It looks like the Producer on the Development Portal and the Production Portal have to have the same name!
Unlike in non-portal BI transports where the Development ID is changed over to the Production ID...
read step 1 real carefully at this link.

    Hi ,
Try to  log into the user with super admin role and add your user/role to the portal content permissions.Permissions can be added either from System administration or from Content Administration .
System Administration --> Permissions --> Select Portal Content and add your role or user
Content Administration --> Dbl Clk Portal Content Directory --> in the display select box select Permissions and add your user / role ...

  • PS-Relationship between the system status in wbs elements and activities.

Relationship between the system status in wbs elements and activities.
We have the following requeriment with the system status in PS. We have a project with complete technically status and we want to undo the complete technically status in one activity without changing the complete technically status in the WBS element or the project.
The reason is that after putting the complete technically status, users have to change the values in the P.O. We don´t want "open" all the project and we only need to "open" the activity where the P.O. are in.
Is that possible? How is connected the system status between activities, wbs elements and the project son I can change the status in the below step without changing the higher steps?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Bala
Yes, you have put it rather correctly.
We use WBS elements for booking and posting time (client requirement). So what I am looking for is WBS Elements with the system status TERL (Time and Expense Released).
I talked of the deletion flag also, because a WBS element flagged for deletion can't be used. It's one of the criteria to screen the WBS elements.
    I hope it's clearer now.

  • Portal content Transport Packages Export/Import Question.

    Hi,everyone:
I have a problem when Export packages of portal content, the epa-file is correct on the server however become error after download from the server to localhost.
The bug is Function of Download itself,if anyone have meet this case and help me. I need your help!
    Regard!
    Fish

    Hi Ree,
As I mentioned in my previous reply it is working perfectly for me. The import is creating the required files in the PCD.
Let me explain how it is done.
    Create a TP
Create a folder and add the required files(Workset, pages, iviews etc) to the the folder.
add the folder with all the contents(select 'Add all objects to transport package' from the content menu) to the TP.
Export the TP. give a name of your choice(removing the numbers)
Download it to the local machine using the dowmload link.
the file will be saved as a <i>TPName</i>.epa in your local drive.
in import, select 'client' for Source for Package Files.
brose and select the <i>TPName</i>.epa file.
upload the file, and you can see the contents.
then import it to the new environment. Now the complete folder stucture will be created in the PCD exactly as you created it for the TP.
I hope you are doing like this. It should work
Are yo able to open the downloaded file with WinZip?
    cheers

  • Portal Content Transport

    Hi folks!
I deleted several objects beneath a PCD folder.
Now I want to update this folder in another portal system (via transport package - normally...).
How can I have these objects that were deleted in the source system to be deleted in the target system?
Note: I'd like to avoid deleting the folder in the target system and re-create it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Geraldo.

    Geraldo,
I fear there is no such way you can delete in target system similar to that of source system.you have to maually do this.it wont work just by transport

  • Unable to see the portal content directory in content administration role

    Hi,
I am unable to see the portal content directory in the content administration. I am not the super administrator, i have been assigned other roles. But, I am unable to see the PCD. Please help me how this can be sorted out.
    Thanks much in advance,
    Sunitha.S

    Hi Sunita,
Contact your systen admin people , he/she will assign the Read/Write or Full controls to content_admin_role in the system administration -> Permissions -> select portal content folder and right click the select open Permissions , There he/she has to add content_admin_role in Assigned Permissions category and under Administrator category select Full Control and select End user check box and save the changes.
Then you can see the Portal Content and you can create /change the portal contents.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Unable to see the portal content directory in content adminstration

    Hi,
I am unable to see the portal content directory in the content administration. I am not the super administrator.I have been assigned content admin role. But, I am unable to see the PCD.I see from previous blogs that permission has to be set for my role.
Can any one help me in telling the procedure to set the permission. If permission is not the issue then do tell me the solution for it.
    Suganya

    Hi Suganya,
The content admin role normally is sufficient to see / read the portal content catalogue (as far as the standard settings are concerned). But maybe they have been restricted on your implementation by some administrator.
Some with sufficient permissions on the portal content catalogue has to right-click on the root (portal_content) object, "open", "permissions", and has to provide at least administrative "read" permission to you, some role (content admin for example) which is assigned to you or some group you belong to.
    Hope it helps

  • Federated portal's, cann't see the roles and portal content from producer

We are configuring a Federated Portal, with a Producer EP7.0 SP13 and a Consumer EP7.0 SP13. The connection test is successful.
I can see the producer on the consumer and the consumer on the producer.
The problem is that I can not see the portal content of the producer in the portal content of the consumer.  The producer roles are also not available on the consumer.  I have selected the producer as the data source in the consumer UME,
then enter * in the role name field, then select "go", but nothing comes up.
    Can anybody help me?

    Hi J De Voijs
    • Following might be the reason:
    1. User should exist in both user store of Consumer and Producer portal otherwise it won’t work.
    2. Incase if the registration is successful then there might be some problem with your servers (Consumer & Producer) clock timings.
    3. ‘Remote Role Assignment’ may get fail perhaps because user to whom remote role assignment is done doesn’t have “End User” role assigned to him/her at Producer Portal. End-user permission enables business users to run content at runtime. Just as end users require end-user permission to run local content on your portal, they also need end-user permission for local content originating from a remote producer.
    4. You should have Owner permission in the objects to which you want to assign permissions otherwise ‘Remote Role Assignment’ wont work.
    5. In the portal content studio, open the producer under 'NetWeaver content producers'. If it does not contain folders in it, the registration is considered to be unsuccessful even though it stated it was successful while registration.
    6. During the process of Registering (Adding) Producer Portal, while entering the connection parameters of the NetWeaver producer portal use appropriate Host name against “Host Name” input field instead of IP address. Perhaps this might create some problem during execution in later stage.
e.g. Host Name: use “sapProducerportal02” instead of 172.19.144.155

  • Portal Content Deployment - History

    Hello Gurus
Is there is a way to figure out the list of all the portal contents deployed in the portal. ( including date and time).
On the ABAP stack we have import history and we can check list of transports, in same way how can see the list of portal contents deplyed to PORTALS.
    Appreciate your help.
    Regards
    Rrs

    Ratan,
Interesting topic - it would depend on how your group has been exporting content (assuming that you are talking about Portal Content and not Java Development).  By default, the export tool will overwrite the previous export file if you don't have a procedure in place to make new files for each export.  Other then that, I don't think that there is a log of activity or content.  For this I nornally require my content admins for Portals to create a unique folder for each project, a sub-foler for each section, and a single file for each export - adding a revision number to the end of each file as they export them.
A long explination for - the system doesn't do it but you can setup something so you can manage it yourself.
My method above helps to keep things in order and you can go look back at the export files and what was in them for this purpose.  I also change the export/import directory for the Dev to QA Portal so Basis doesn't need to baby-sit the developers moving content between those two systems and so Developers don't need access to the file system. (Dev export directory is on an NFS between Dev and QA - QA  import points to the NFS Dev export folder - so you can just import without doing anything).  Somewhat like TMS - for prod I still have an NFS but Basis moves the files to the right import directory.
Hope that helps somewhat to get you going.  May seem like overkill but when you get 5-10 portal developers moving quickly, it helps to keep it all in synch with the ECC transports!!

  • Export list of portal content to excel for comparison

    Hi.
I have the problem that I have to support a SAP Portal where Dev, Qas and Prod systens are not consistent. Many objects do not exists in Dev or are renamed. So I like to compare the portal content hierarchy of these systems e.g. with help of excel. But I do not know a way to export the portal content hierarchy or a list of objects used. Any ideas about this?
    Regards,
    Nils

Nils, Im famliar with the point of adding numbers to id's of PCD duplicates, thats not the point. If you will transport the whole content, including roles and worksets, you will notice the portal navigation will point you to the "proper" objects, since those are containing links to the correct id's and, assuming your import is consistent. Delete the whole custom PCD content on target first, import your stuff in a clean state from reference, thats it.
Indeed, its not an excuse to keep PCD dirty, apparently you need to work on it nevertheless. And:
To have an automatic sync is not neccessary. It is more or less to get a checklist where to look.
I got your point, but following that logic you also dont need any excel sheets, you can do it manually. I guess what you was thinking about is a tool, what shows you differences or in other words potential problems in the PCD of different EP's. So, there is no such tool. Additionally if you write one on your own, wouldnt it be nice to correct the differences instead of manual PCD explorer or transport actions?
Your requirement is well known for me, people are raising this e.g. they want to point in source of custom WDAs to portal components over the PCD Id, in that case it has to be identically on all systems for clear reasons.
    cheers
