Portal Re-direct

Hello,
I am trying to put in a redirect on an inside DNS.
Example: When a customer goes to the www.whatever.com that there will be an automatic re-direct to the portal url.
We have 3 Page Groups in Portal. One has no problem redirecting because we only have to put in pls/portal and it will automatically redirect to that home page.
My problem:
It only allows 60 some characters in for the re-direct. The two other page groups have a URL that is 84! Is there a way to work around this. I am working with a girl in Infrastructure and she has been trying everything she knows.
Does anyone know how to go about this or has had experience in this. Or, another solution would be to make the URL shorter. Does anyone know how to shorten a URL in Portal.
Any suggestions, advice, and comments are welcome.
Thanks,
Jessica

Hi Jessica,
I'm not exactly understanding what you are trying to do, but maybe I can help out a bit. What about using the direct access URL? This can be shorter... ;-)
How you do it is as following:-
http://<hostname>:<portnumber>/pls/<dad>/url/page/<pagegroupname>/<pagename>
Just for the root page of the page group:-
http://<hostname>:<portnumber>/pls/<dad>/url/page/<pagegroupname>
http://pedro-pc.help.com:7778/pls/portal/url/page/PEDRO
I hope it helps...
Cheers,
Pedro.

  • Determine Isolation Mode for directly called Portal Components

    Hallo there,
I created a custom Navigation, that calls a portal component directly (without building pages and iViews in the PCD).
My portal component just reads the content of a given Resource from the KM repoitory and renders it to the servlet response.
To Launch the component I give the LaunchURL "/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/MyApplication.MyComponent?RID=/myrep/conents/content.html" to the navigation node. When calling my custom navigation the component is called and the content of the given resource is rendered correctly.
But there is one thing I want to change: the content is always rendered into a isolated iFrame, which is isolation Level URL. Now im wondering how I can force the component to be rendered as EMBEDDED into the view.
What i tried so far is to add the following property to the portalapp.xml (component-profile), but this didn't work:
    <property name="com.sap.portal.reserved.iview.IsolationMode" value="EMBEDDED"/>
Can anybody give me a hint how to solve this problem?
    Thank you for your answer,
    Frank

    Hi Priya,
Yes. Putting different portal components in a page definitely means a page conatining different iviews.

  • What's the right way to start up with Portal's dev?

    Hi to all Portals experts,
I am really struggling to start up learning Portals and more specific their development. Here is the problem - I am a bit new in the NetWeaver  but not new in J2EE environment. I went trough all WebDynpro tutorials and really the documentation was written nice.Good hands-on approach with lots of examples and that is what I found with WebDynpro - everything well explained step by step.
But when I started the Portal’s Tutorials I was  a bit disappointed.
1.First of all, there is no explanation which tools one needs to start up with Portal Dev?
I only have  SAP Netweaver Development Studio SP15 installed on my PC and I don’t have any access to R/3, CRM or other system. Is this enough to at least start to learn Portal Development or not?
    2. I realize well that at some point I will need real system to play with but , until than what useful practice I can do on my own and how?
    - Even within the WebDynpro tutorial , the very first Part :’ Define a system’ - (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/cb/f4bc3d42f46c33e10000000a11405a/frameset.htm) -‘In the portal, navigate to System Administration - System Configuration - System Landscape’
Which Portal ? I don’t have System Administration on my NWDS SP15?Is is something I should install?unclear?
    3. My understanding is that NWDS SP15 contains EP , within its J2EE local engine , but is this EP.6.0, is this enough to develop complete Portal Application A-Z or not - unclear ?
    4.  PDK. Somewhere I read that Portal Application can be developed with either WebDynpro or with PDK. I’ve read about PDK but It is not clear if  it is Dev Kit as its name says , should it be downloaded , installed or imported into NWDS, again? And bottom line do I need PDK as a  Portal Developer, and at which point?
I only need the starting point for Portal Develop. or some guide that should set milestones 1st ,2nd .. I would prefer the hands-on approach. If some of you  has already taken this path and can help me with your directions, links, at least how to get started, I will highly appreciate it! Thanks in advance!Regards, Bob

    Hi Bob,
The below reply is as per my experience with Development so far:
1> It is not necessary to have access to R/3 or any other SAP/non SAP application unless you are writing an application in connection to them.
Example: An application which is reading data from R/3 and displaying the same in a table. Yes, in this scenario you would require access to R/3.
2> System Administration is a role just like Home, User Administration, etc in Portal itself.
It contains all the configuration related to System Landscape, Knowledge Menegement, etc
If in case you have not been given this role, you may ask your System Administrator to create the required system (PCD Object). You may then use this system from your Profile (Personalize Portal) link directly.
3> NWDS resides over Portal so you may create your own standalone application or application thats talking to the underlying Portal.
WebDynpro is used to create UI & likewise you may build Web applications or EJB applications.
4> PDK stands for Portal Development Kit. YUou may ask your administrator to download and assign the same to you. This would appear as a "Java Developer" named role in your portal. It contains all APIs required for Java development.
If you do nto have this, you may still use the Javadocs provided on SDN itself.
Depending what custom developmetn you do, depending upon the type the .par (portal archieve), .ear (Enterprise archieve), .war (web archieve) needs to be deployed in portal, so that users may access/view the custom created data.
    Hope this helps
    All the best!
    Warm Regards,
    Ritu

  • Working with documents via BEx Analyzer not using the portal

    Hello,
i read that we are able to create (work) with documents (comments) via
BEx Analyzer. When i want to add a comment how it is described in the
help we get connected to the portal. We dont want to use the portal for
that. Therefore we searched a way to skip the portal. We read that in
BW Versions before 7.0 the portal was not connected but since 7.0 we
have the portal connectivity, but it should also possible to not use
the portal and to access directly the BI Server. I searched for the
Customizing to do so but i could not find it where to switch to the old
    logic.
And another question is when we use the Portal with the knowledge base . The documents are stored in the document framework (SKWF). Is it the same as the Datawarehousing Workbench --> documents. This storage we want to use.
Can anyone give me a hint?
    Kind regards,
    Murat

    Hi Murat,
We are also facing the same issue of when trying to create/access the documents from BEx analyzer it is connecting portal , we need to bypass portal and directly access the document browser in BW server.
In your thread you mentioned it is done. So can you please let me know how did you enable the old configuration?. It will be very much helpful to us.
    Awaiting for your reply.
    Thanks,

  • Weird case involving NTLM, Windows XP and the portal

I have a very peculiar case here for a few users.
The users have in common that they are all using windows xp (and just migrated), though most other person (even ones using windows XP do not have the problem).
We have implemented SSO to the portal, and done this using IIS on the portal servers. In front of that we are using IBM edge loadbalancers.
From a troubled user perspective, when the he opens the browser against the portal, he gets the portal logon page with a message saying user authentication failed.
I've found out what happens behind the scene and why the portal fails, but I can't explain it thoroughly.
The user's browser reaches the portal.company.com address. IIS requests NTLM login and after a few packets, the browser sends the user's userprincipalname ([email protected]) via the NTLM login (i've documented this in the network traces from ethereal). That the browser sends the userprincipalname is the core of the problems, all other user's send the SAMaccountname. The portal reads the NTLM information and parses the userinformation (here the userprincipalname) However, we have configured our portal to use the SAMaccountname when authentication against AD, and therefore the login fails.
If I use an DNS alias for the portal.company.com addresse, say aliasportal.company.com (actually portal.company.com is an alias for aliasportal.company.com, but don't let that confuse you), the same client that sent userprincipalname earlier, now sends the SAMaccountname and therefore gets SSO (and goes through the loadbalancer). And if I try to access one of the portal servers directly (without going through the load balancer), it also sends SAMaccountname. So basically, there has to be something with the address portal.company.com that makes the user's browser to send the userprincipalname.
Also, this problem is not tied to the user's profile, because if he uses another pc, it works like a charm.
<b>If you have any idea at all what could have caused this, please do contribute.. No answers are stupid (in this case). I am especially looking for details to what causes IE to send userprincipalnames, and what causes it to send SAMaccountname.</b>
Network sniffing(some minor changes to hide information):
This is the NTLM packet which "wrongly" contains the userprincipalname.

I'll be truely impressed if anyone solves this one!

    Hi Dagfinn,
There are a few things I would check in the Internet explorer settings on the client, namely :
-The security zones (which addresses are in Intranet, Trusted sites, etc.)
-Check in the security settings if automatic logon with current username is enabled.
-Look if "Enable integrated Windows authentication" is enabled in the advanced settings.
Are you using Kerberos authentication? There's a long article on Microsoft's website about troubleshooting Kerberos errors which might give a few clues :

  • Workflow is not trigerred from the portal

    Hi all,
I have a scenario in which the workflow requires to be trigerred through the portal and direct the task to the approver's inbox in extent to sending email notification to the approver, I have developed the custom workflow and i am using the standard rule for getting the approver. all of this is working fine when i test them on R/3 but wheni am integrating the workflow to the portal using a BAPI it is not trigerring the workflow. The first step in my worklflow is to send the email notification  to the approver, if i remove this step then it directs the task to the approver's inbox which is the second step in my workflow.
Can anyomne please guide me why it is happening.
    Thanks.
    Saurbah Anand.

    Hi,
    You said
<i>"wheni am integrating the workflow to the portal using a BAPI it is not trigerring the workflow. The first step in my worklflow is to send the email notification to the approver, <b>if i remove this step then it directs the task to the approver's inbox</b> which is the second step in my workflow."</i>
Do you mean say that it is not working when you put the sendmail step alone? Or is it that the workflow is not triggering at all.
I assume that you are using a BAPI to create an event which will start this workflow. Now if your workflow is not starting at all then you need to activate the event trace (SWELS) and check whether the event was triggered first (in SWEL). If yes then check for any errors in the receiver connection.
If your workflow does start and fails at sending mail step then you may need to give some more info. Are you using the standard sendmail step or Are u using a background task. In case if u r using a BG task then it might be creating a dump while triggering from portal (Ex. it might need the Evt_creator user id to determine the approver which is not binded properly from Event<->Workflow<->Task<->Method).
Also have a look at ST22 for any dumps.
    Thanks,

  • How to open portal favorites in a new window?

    Hi,
we want that when a user clics in a portal favorites link, the iview gets opened in a new window.
I have been searching in the forums and tried all the "solutions" but none of them worked,
    I tried:
    - Setting the portal favorites iview property ¨Launch in new window : display in a headerless portal window¨
    - Tried setting the parameter ¨Targe Window Type: blank¨ in the collection renderer of the layout set of the favorites iview
    any hints?
    (using EP 7.0 SPS 20)
    best regards,
    Marco.

    Hi Marco,
I have checked this issue and there it is not possible to force the
iview which are opening portal content or portal pages as this is
    hardcoded.
In PortalFavorites iView, portal pages are opening always in the portal
area, when iView is in the portal area, or into another window, when the
iView is called as standalone ( see 'Organize Entries' link from tray
    option).
So there is no way to open into a new window portal pages direct from
Portal Favorites. This works as designs unfortunately .

  • Fiori Launchpad integration in Portal Rendering issues

Hello Guru's, I have created UI5 iview by copying the Web Dynpro Application com.sap.portal.appintegrator.sap - UI5 and pasted in to the folder where I am creating the iview. with in the content SAP UI5 gave the relative path as :/sap/bc/ui5_ui5/ui2/ushell/shells/abap/FioriLaunchpad.html? And in the Navigation Menu- selected the option: Display in separate headerless portal window (standard mode) Now when trying to Preview or open the role it is not rendering(both in IE and Chrome) the Launchpad. It is displaying a blank screen. And we are the latest version available in the market on the patches and all the fiori related components. Please help. Thanks, Pramod

    Hello All,
Here is the reply from SAP on the issue:
Currently, the Fiori Launchpad is not designed/supported to be
consumed in another container as the Portal. (We implemented " Anti
Click Jecking Protection" which block this load).
    With UI-Add-On SP09 and the NW Portal version 731 SP13/ 740 SP8 we
will enable also consumption of FLP  via SAP portal or direct call to
    specific Fiori applications
with the option to remove elements from header as the logo or
    non-relevant buttons.
For now we are using Launchpage which was created as a URL iView and working fine without any issue.
    Thanks,

  • How to acces portal services in webdynpro

Hi I want to access portal services from webdynpro,  i red that for that we have to  provide sharing reference in webdynpro application. which will be
PORTAL :< Vendor name>/<Full qualified name of the portal service>
my question is how to find out vendor name and Full qualified name of the portal service from par

    Hi,
Web Dynpro applications can access portal services in one of the following ways:
    ●      Directly: The application can get an instance of the service on the machine on which the Web Dynpro application is running.
    ●      Via the Service Factory: The application can request an instance of the service from the service factory. The service factory provides a conduit to portal services to ensure that the proper service is called, even in cases when the Web Dynpro application and the portal are running on different machines.
Only services written in a remote-safe manner are available via the service factory. These services include the following portal services:
    Page Service
    Tray Service
    Page Service
The page service provides information about the page in which the application is running, and enables you to perform the following tasks:
    ●      Getting a list of the atomic names of the visible iViews in the page.
You may want to use this method to avoid updating the user interface of an iView when it is not visible.
    IWDPageService pageService = (IWDPageService)
        WDPortalUtils.getService(WDPortalServiceType.PAGE_SERVICE);
// String array receives iView names
    String[] iViews = pageService.getVisibleIViews();
    ●      Hiding/showing iViews in the page
    IWDPageService pageService = (IWDPageService)
        WDPortalUtils.getService(WDPortalServiceType.PAGE_SERVICE);
    // display iView Search
    pageService.showIView("Search");
    // hide iView Details
    pageService.hideIView("Details");
Changes to the visibility of iViews are not saved. When a user refreshes the page, the original settings are restored.
    Tray Service
The tray service enables you to add a menu item to an iView or page tray, and to specify a Web Dynpro action to execute when the menu item is selected.
The following is an example of adding an iView and page menu item:
    IWDTrayService trayService = (IWDTrayService)
        WDPortalUtils.getService(WDPortalServiceType.TRAY_SERVICE);
    if (trayService != null) {
// Add iView tray menu item
        trayService.addIViewItem("addItemComment", "Add Comment",
        wdThis.wdGetAddItemCommentAction(), null);
// Add page tray menu item
        trayService.addPageItem("addItemComment", "Add Comment",
        wdThis.wdGetAddItemCommentAction(), null);
Generally, tray menu items are added in the wdDoModifyView() method. Make sure to add the menu item once; otherwise, duplicate menu items are displayed.
    Procedure
This section describes how to call a portal service.
For services whose interfaces are provided by Web Dynpro (such as IWDPageService and IWDTrayService), you do not need to perform Steps 1 and 2.
           1.      Make a sharing reference to the service, by doing the following:
                                a.      Right-click the Web Dynpro development component or Web Dynpro project, and select Properties.
    The Properties dialog box opens.
                                b.      From the left pane, select Web Dynpro References.
                                c.      In the Sharing references tab, add a reference to the portal service with the following format:
PORTAL:<Vendor name>/<Fully qualified name of the portal service application>
For example, the following shows a reference to the navigation service:
This graphic is explained in the accompanying text
           2.      To build the project, add the JAR file containing the service to the classpath of the project in the IDE.
Do not store the JAR file of the service in the libfolder of your development component or Eclipse project. This causes classloader problems at runtime.
           3.      Get an instance of the service.
To call a portal service directly, without the service factory, call WDPortalUtils.getServiceReference() with the key for the service, as in the following example:
    IUserObjectBasedNavigation obnService = (IUserObjectBasedNavigation)
        WDPortalUtils.getServiceReference(IUserObjectBasedNavigation.KEY);
To call a portal service via the service factory, call WDPortalUtils.getService() with the WDPortalServiceType constant for the service, as in the following example:
    INavigationService navService = (INavigationService)

If more than one Web Dynpro controller needs to use the same portal service, you can store the portal service reference in a controller context node. All other controllers that need to use the service must define a context node and map it to the context node with the service reference.
A portal service can be called only when the portal platform and the Web Dynpro application are running on the same machine.
It is recommended not to use your Web Dynpro-based portal content in a global or federated portal scenario.

  • Using portal metadata repository for portal content - performance impact?

Oracle provides the Oracle Drive utility as a way of moving portal content directly into the portal metadata repository. The Oracle Portal Center site (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/index.html) provides links to several demos and technical papers that describe the use of Oracle Drive to copy file-based content into the Portal Metadata Repository (e.g., http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/pdf/cm_webdav_10g_webdav_clients.pdf). My questions are: (a) is this a best practice (b) are there potential performance problems with loading up the portal metadata repository with large volumes of file-based content?

    Hello
It depends on what you mean by "large volumes".
I use webdav scripts to create/update my files every night and it works fine. But it's rather slow.
    Questions are :
    - is it a one-time transfer to initiate Portal, and a regular one ?
    - how large are your files ?

  • Change URL of Portal favorites

    Hello,
Is there any way to change the URL of user favorites stored in KM?
I have a few BI users who have saved many BEX Portal favorites using Web Analyzer. Unfortunately due to a change in the portal role assignment he can no longer access his favorites and it shows page cannot be found.  The reason being we were earlier rolling our Portal roles and Reports using Portal Groups.  Users would be assigned to Portal groups which in turn would be linked to the individual Portal Roles.  Recently we started assigning Portal Roles directly to user ids.
Surprisingly and I dont know why the favorites link create by the users include the portal group id as well in the url.  We have to manually modify those favorites link so that the portal groups can be removed.
When I navigate to root->user home-> <user> -> favorites I have view all the favorites created by the user, I can modify and see properties but there is no way I can change the "Content Link"  URL path under the "Access Links" tab.  There is also a Miscellaneous tab which has a bookmark_id = D7NQ1PKD34N4RMYJ8MYUJCSTY and template_name = ZANALYSIS_PATTERN.
I tried searching the bookmark_id on the ABAP stack in table SMEN_BUFFC but no luck.
    Thanks
    Raj

    Hi Kundu,
I dont understand what you mean by "adding permissions"  please elaborate.  Are you talking about adding "Full Control" to the Favorite links?  Please note the user is able to see their favorites in the KM Portal Favorite iView but they cannot get to the page using the link stored in those favorites since the link has the name of portal group embedded in it becuase they were assigned to those portal groups before.  Now they are just assigned to the portal roles directly.

    Awaiting reply!
    Thanks,
    Smita Thorat

    Hi Smita,
As shown below, the PCD path of the portal object is the Navigation target.
    http:/myServer:50000/irj/portal?NavigationTarget=ROLES://portal_content/myFolder/myRole
This can be hashed and shortened to form the Short URL as shown below
    http:/myServer:50000/irj/portal?NavigationTarget=navurl://b3d6d9ebac16a46574d62757803b05d4
Short URL can be enabled and disabled depending upon the requirements.
Check the links below for detail description to enable short URL:

  • Regarding direct production

    Dear all,
I have checked in help portal regarding direct production,
Can anybody explain with example how to process it.
Because in help portal it has mention goods issue and receipt not necessary.
Then how the material will take in MRP?
Difference between direct production & collective order?
    Regards
    Rajasekaran

    Hi,
It is way of linking Production orders of HALB to FERT within same BOM & provide addtional functionality like goods issue( Not goods receipt) on HALB production order not needed . If you have BOM of FERT with atleast one subassembly(HALB) & if you define procurement type E & spl proc type 52 for HALB, HALB production order is linked to FERT production order. Lot sizing procedure is ignored for HALB & qty of both production order will  be same.
In addtion , if you select 'Collective order with Goods movement' in OPJH,  Goods issue of HALB to FERT production order is posted automatically when Goods receipt on HALB production order is done.
It addresses requirement of having seperate production order for HALB( for tracking ) , but since it is consumed /used for higher level assembly(Doesn't go to Store/WH) , no need to remember to good issue to higher production order.
It is way of reducing transactions on shop floor
If you define HALB as phantom, all of pain above is not needed
    Hope ite helps,
    Jatin

  • Portal future and WebCenter Suite

Oracle unveils WebCenter Suite as a seperate products at Developer World.
is it a replacement for Oracle Portal ? (it seems that way)
In our opinion our existing invesment should be protected.

    Hi,
You can learn more about Oracle WebCenter Suite on the OTN product page. Regarding your actual questions:
Oracle unveils WebCenter Suite as a seperate products
    at Developer World.
is it a replacement for Oracle Portal ? (it seems
that way)Quote from the Oracle WebCenter FAQ:
4.2 What is the relationship between Oracle WebCenter Suite and Oracle Portal?
Oracle WebCenter Suite addresses user interaction requirements holistically by introducing new capabilities directly into the JavaServer Faces application environment and providing Web 2.0 services that take advantage of those capabilities to allow developers to create next generation, context-centric applications. In essence, with WebCenter, we have injected portal capabilities directly into the application architecture rather than requiring a distinct and separate portal framework. This provides developers focused on 100% standards-development a complete solution to build any type of user interaction they require.
In contrast, Oracle Portal is specifically targeted at the enterprise portal use case, is built on top of a database-centric design-time architecture, and incorporates a dedicated, portal-specific runtime framework. It is designed to provide a simple wizard-based experience to building portals that is targeted at the business developer rather than the Java developer.
From a pricing and packaging point of view, Oracle Portal is part of Oracle Application Server Standard and Enterprise Editions while Oracle WebCenter Suite is a separately priced option on top of Enterprise Edition.
In our opinion our existing invesment should be
    protected.

o Re-use portlets: Just like Oracle Portal, Oracle WebCenter applications can leverage both JSR 168/WSRP and PDK-Java portlets.
o You can access and integrate content from Oracle Portal's content management system into your WebCenter applications.
o You can integrate simple PL/SQL portlets and page portlets using the Federated Portal Adapter into Oracle WebCenter.
