Portege 3480CT CD Rom Drivers

I have a Portege 3480 that I want to boot in Dos with CD Rom support in oder to load a new Operating system. I have downloaded the companion diskette but the toscdrom driver does not load and therefore MSCDEX fails. The CD drive is 24xspeed attached via a PCMCIA card. The CD drive is Toshiba Part No 2793020 with Tosihiba PCMCIA card. Is there another driver that I should be using?

Quad
Thanks for you help. After many hours, I have finally managed to gain access to my Toshiba CD Rom drive which is attached via a Toshiba PCMCIA card.
I have done this with a mixture of the companion diskette from the toshiba website (which was no good on it's own!) and with a file from the freecom.com website.
It appears that when a machine is booted in Dos it is unable to see through PCMCIA cards to fully access external drives without a specific program (point enabler). Although the bios does allow you to boot from a CD Drive you can't load drivers and mscdex which give full access to the content of the CD
I found out with some Card Sevices software from tssc.de that the Toshiba PCMCIA CDRom card was is infact a Freecom card so I downloaded (00001005.zip) a Cable I & II PCMCIA Dos Driver of this website.
In the download is a file called fcpoint.exe, which I had to load in config.sys before I loaded the device driver toscdrom.sys (which was on the companion diskette).
For some reason toscdrom.sys could only find the cd drive when the machine was booted from the hard disk and not from the floppy (don't quite understand this, unless it's the fact that the floppy is attached by a usb connection on port replicator).
Also mscdex is needed in the autoexec.bat.
Hopefully I should now be able to continue with windows 98 setup from the CD Drive.

  • Cannot installation W2K on Portege 3480CT

On eBay I bought a Portege 3480CT to use it as a fine machine to create texts out of office. But now I can not even install W2K on it.
It has an external CD reader and does not install: w2k, Linux, W98 (all original)... for my preferred W2K it says, "couldn't find NTLDR" (w2k) and: "datentraeger entfernen - neustart: taste druecken" -
there is no other boot device, no other disk in any slot... the disk is my original one, the boot device is switched to "boot from CD" - the system is used to W2K (it has a sticker at the back, which gives me this information) -
and now I am at the point, I have no clue, how to continue.
Is there any possibility to make it run again?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
If a message "NTLDR is missing" appears this indicates that the disc is not bootable.
Many times this error is caused when the computer is attempting to boot from a non-bootable floppy disk or CD-ROM.
In this forum several users wanted to install the W2K on this notebook.
Firstly you need a bootable drive.

If you want to boot from the Win98 CD you need firstly to create a companion diskette. Check the Toshiba driver page for companion diskette files.

  • Problems with cd rom drivers on win 98

Ok I have a MSI 6524 mb and a sony cdrw drive, an LG cr rom and 1st gen dvd that dont like to read cdr's.  I have formated my hd and put win 98 se on it, but it will not load the cd rom drivers , and because of that, the IDE drivers wont install cause they come on later from win 98.  I've check all manufactures web sites and non offer a cd rom driver cause they are all plug and play.
Now I have a windows ME boot disk that does have the cd rom drivers but I keep getting an error message about disk cache utilitly being on my hard drive when I use the ME boot disk     Is there a way to use the ME and not have errors?  I know there is a way to load cdrom drivers in DOS, but im Super stuid with DOS and even with instructions from the net I cant get it right.  Can somone please offer me some very GOOD instructions on what to do.

Well I tried that, but only the Windows Me boot disk seems to have drivers for my cd rom.  I even tried to use a patch that adds 4 more cd rom drives to my win 98 boot disk, but I couldnt understand how to do that.  I think it was a bad patch.
The main reason I'm redoing my Hd is because everytime I try to use any thing , any program, run anything, it will work for a few seconds and then freeze to a blue screen that says "windows has had a fatal error, press any key to continue or press control alt del to restart"  So I push any key and explorer has performed an illegal opperation, so I click on close, and then another program does the same thing , and then another, til there is nothing left running, or the comp is completely frozen.  And then everysingle time I reboot , the same thing happens.

  • Just installed iTunes 10.6.3 and now the computer doesn't recognize the CD-ROM drivers

I've had iTunes previously on Windows 7, but because I had it on my computer, the computer would not recognize my CD-ROM drivers, so I uninstalled it. I just downloaded iTunes again, and the same problem is happening again. Is there any way I can keep iTunes and get my drivers working?

    I run latest bios 1.4

The drive works ok in a desktop pc
IS it too big to run on this machine?
IF NOT how do i make it work?

    Hi
I am pretty sure that HDD is too big for this machine. Your Portege can maybe works properly with 20GB but 100GB is too much. Sorry but I think there is no way to make it work.

  • Where can i find Display drivers for Portege 3480CT?

My Portege 3480 CT has been reloaded with ME after problems with Windows XP. Now i cant find suitable drivers for the Display wich only starts in 16 colour mode with a extremely small screene. I can not find any suitable drivers for my notebook except an update of BIOS on Toshibas homepage. Is my Notebook to old? I think its 5 years.
    /Conny Bron

    Hi Conny
Win ME was never a supported OS on this model. Try either the Win98 or Win2000 driver. You might have to 'force' the driver into the system.
    Good luck

I dont think Toshiba Controls will enable the Fn keys, but you should install it anyway.
Common Modules is very important on Toshiba laptops, you need to install it first before the other drivers.
    Go to http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
Look up Portege R500, and download:

I reformatted my hard drive the other day but the driver support for my laptop is poor.
The sound drivers don't work, i have several unknown devices in device manager that need drivers but i'm not sure which drivers to install.
Could anyone point us in the right direction?
    Its a r500-100

    hi Thermaltake,
goto *eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com* the official downloadsite from toshiba.
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/SUPPORT_PORTAL/
    choose there "driver downloads" "more"
choose "notebook", "portege", R-series", "R-500" and your operating system.
there are xp, vista 32/64bit, win7 32/64bit - good driver support at all.
download the drivers and have fun installing them!

Just make sure you have the latest version of Ovi Suite or Nokia Software Updater (NSU)  installed on your PC and you should be OK.  PC Suite is no longer developed and has been replaced by Ovi Suite or the standalone NSU.
I think you may be thinking about an error that appears during a firmware update.  I have also had a pop up saying Windows was unable to install Nokia USB ROM driver but it has never caused me any issues so I am not worrying about it.

  • Portege 3480ct: Cannot use the 16bit PCMCIA card

    Hello,
    I got a Problem with a PCMCIA-Card (new media wave jammer, 16bit) on a 3480 with Win98 & XP.
The card appears as a unknown device only in the "remove Hardware"-Tool.
In the device-manager it isn't listed at all and Windows didn't ask for the driver.
Looks like a demaged card, but this card still works fine in another Notebook!
The Problem could be related to different Memory areas used by the Cardservice.
The Cardservice at the 3480ct seems not to be configurable.
    What can i do?
    Thanks

    Hi
The PCMCIA card doesnt need an driver!
From my knowledge you should check the settings in the BIOS!
On the second BIOS page you should try to change the Device Config to All devices and in the PC card section you should set the controller mode to Cardbus/16bit
    .then save the BIOS settings.
    Maybe it helps

  • WXP on Portege R930 - need display drivers

    Hi All,
I have a need to install Windows XP onto a Portege R930-14T with an Intel I3-3110M CPU. When I try to install the driver for the graphics I get a message "This Computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software".
The readme for this driver suggests it is for the 2nd gen I3 not the 3rd Gen as is installed.
I am sure its something simple I am missing.
Any help or guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Phil

    > The readme for this driver suggests it is for the 2nd gen I3 not the 3rd Gen as is installed.
So you simply used a wrong and not compatible driver.
The Intel Core i3-3110M CPU supports the Intel HD graphics 4000
Its a 3rd generation (Ivy Bridge) CPU.
So you need an Intel Intel HD 4000 driver for 3rd generation CPU!
Furthermore if you want to install the Intel driver from Intel page, you have to do that via device manager.
You need an folder containing the driver files (ini, dll)
Then you have to go to device manager, have to choose the advanced installation.
This helps you to point to the folder containing the driver files.
The windows would pick up the essential files and would update the driver.

    Hi,
in my opinion you can use a normal bootdisk which is created by your OS. A manual how to create a bootdisk you could find in the microsoft knowledge base article no. 186300.
You could also create the bootdisk on another system!

HI, My iMac(Intel) cannot read data disk burned with PC, and the disk is ok for PC. But it can read music CD. Somebody can tell the reason, or modify configurtion?

You need to be much more specific, remember we aren't there and can't see your screen so we have no idea what file types you have on the CDs, without that information it's impossible to assist you.
