Portlets, how to...

Has anyone ever done portlets in java?
We have to implement a portlet (client, not server) which should be able to display dynamically updated business graphics (charts, statistics, alarm messages, meters...).
What toolkits do people use to do this?

You are building a portal?
You should check some existing tools, like Apache JetSpeed or Oracle Portal Server. There is also a lot of tools written.
What you need is also another question. If you wish that your portlet will present some dinamicly renedered code from your database or that it will use n-tier system that will unify data from various datasources and will let a lot of customization for the user. Pages with portlets will normal let the user to define the place and shape of the portlet and page in general.

    No, I agree that it is functionality that should be added to the product, but it
    is not a bug because it was not written to do this.
    It is a short coming of the product.

  • In portlets, how to use a html form passing  values to the another page?

    it is well known that in web developing , we have two methods to pass values to another page.<!--
    1. passing values
    2.<form action="nextPage" method ="post"></form>-->
    but how to use two methods in oracle portal portlets?
    I have got a simple example which submit two values to the page for itself, means a page has a form with submit botton, user input the form with values and then submit them by submit botton, then the page recevice those values and show it .
    this example is powered by oracle ,

    Hi Moonsoft,
    I have already answered this query in the other post at Re: how to link more than one links in portlet?(jsp develop)
    <form name = "showPageForm" method = "POST" action = "<%= UrlUtils.htmlFormActionLink(pReq,UrlUtils.PAGE_LINK) %>">
      <%= UrlUtils.htmlFormHiddenFields(pReq,UrlUtils.PAGE_LINK, "showPageForm") %>
      <input type="text" name="param1">
      <input type="text" name="param2">
      <input type="hidden" name="myPPN" value="/htdocs/page2.jsp">
    </form>then in your jsp code on page2.jsp, you will extract the parameters by specifying
    <%
      String p1 = request.getParameter("param1");
      String p2 = request.getParameter("param2");
    %>
    >>this is easy common jsp or asp development, but in oracle is too diffcult!!!!
    :-) .. there is a difference between web-applications and portlets, you just need to get used to it once. I hope this does clarify your doubts.

  • JSR168 portlet - How to acquire Portal user identity?

    My scenario is:
    - Write a JSR168 portlet to access data in an Oracle database
    - The portlet will use the identity of a Oracle Portal user, who currently logs in, to create the connection to that database
    - In the database, I create a global role, that in turn, assigned to an enterprise role, already granted to the portal user.
    - When that user logins the database, depend on his available roles, the database will control his access on data
    My problem is: how can I get the identity (username/password) of that Portal user to establish the connection to my database?
    If anyone know, plz give me some help. I'm very thankful.

    Dear Steven,
    Can you elaborate on your query a bit further?
    If you are looking for some SQL statement that will validate against a table for a given portal user then you can use the API wwctx_api of Portal.
    For example,
    SELECT FIELD1, FIELD2, FIELD3.....
    FROM TABLE1
    WHERE PORTAL_USER = WWCTX_API.GET_USER;
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks.
    Saabir.

  • Full list of deployed portlets - how I  can get it?

    I need to get the full list of deployed portlets by me. I work with PS 2005Q4 for Windows. How I can get it.
    Thanks!

    One thing you could try, if you are using Sun Webserver as the Web Container and
    installed it in the default path:
    /opt/SUNWwbsvr/bin/https/bin/wdeploy list -i <portalserverhostname> -v https-<portalserverhostname>
    will list all deployed web applications, which include your portlets.

  • Custom Search Portlet: How to specify a page in the auto query?

    I want to specify a page in an auto query (Automatically display search results).
    I'm able to specify a pagegroup (Tab What to Search), but unable to select a specific page and to include/exclude subpages.
    This option is available on the SearchForm Tab. We are running 9.0.4.

    A similar question was asked in this discussion:
    Custom Search Portlet
    A Portal Search Team member replied that this feature might be included in 9.0.4.
    We are testing 9.0.4 and it's not available. When is feature this scheduled?

  • Configuration Management of Portlets: How do you do it?

    Hi:
    What is the best way for a group of developers to keep "portlet" code under CM? Portlets can be so many thing, from so many sources, etc. Is an entire structure, including WSDL, source (JSPs, Stored Procedure code, XML transformations, etc.) all kept under CM? I know that you see versions within Oracle Portal itself, but what about other CM tool already in use for Java source, etc.?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Does anything change after you click on install? It should show an indication of activity, which takes awhile to complete. The restart occurs after that.

    Look at this DHTML slide menu system.  It looks very close to what you have now.

  • How can I include a JSP, Maximized, and retain look and feel(WSRP)

    I have created a page group and defined a root page with a certain look and feel. There are two portlets on the page. Once the user clicks on a submit button, the portlet performs some action and includes a jsp included in the EAR file. The portlet needs to maximize the UI to display the jsp correctly.
    Once control returns back to the screen, the look and feel is lost and uses Oracle's default style. I have two questions:
    1. From the portlet, how can I retain the look and feel of the page group when referencing "external" jsp (i.e JSPs in the deployed portal EAR file).
    2. How can I "redirect" the user to the home page in a standard way? If there is not a standard way, how do I use the Oracle specific utilities to do it?
    All of my JSPs are developed externally out of the scope of the Oracle Portal.
    Environment - Oracle Portal 10.1.4 on Release 2 using WSRP to contact Oracle Release 3, hosted EAR file (WSRP Producer).
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi José,
    I don't think that is possible. But you can import the css files that ep uses for its look and feel and try to give your web pages similar look and feel. The tables and other controls used in EP are totally different and are done through complex JavaScript coding instead of simple HTML tags. If you want exact lok and feel then i thin you must go for a Webdynpro based application rather then a J2EE application with JSPs.

    Guru.

    I want to display a list of the users within a portlet.
    how do i get the users name and details out of OID, so that i can use then in a PLSQL function.

    Hi Chris,
    first, welcome on SDN!
    UMFactory.getInstance().getRoleFactory(roleID).getUserMembers() returns the users which are members of the role, see http://media.sdn.sap.com/html/submitted_docs/60_sp2_javadocs/ume/com/sap/security/api/IRole.html
    addGroupMember(...) adds a group.
    removeUserMember(...) removes a user from a role.
    Corresponding method exist for the groups.
    Hope it helps

    PS: Please consider rewarding points for helpful answers on SDN. Thanks in advance!

  • Discoverer reports in portlet

    Hi All!
    Will anyone help me to solve the following problem?
    There are several Discoverer reports based on database records. It's necessary to put them in a single portlet. I've tried to create a portlet provider and URL portlet, but there is the requirement to identify the parameter names the Discoverer form accepts in provider.xml file. Actually there is a large number of them, and I just can't imagine the whole set of them, so it looks like a problem.
    Are there any other ways to put these reports in portlet?
    Thanks in advance.

    i have the same problem, i need to put the discoverer report in portlet, how i can do this?
