Possible Malware or Virus on IMac?

Today one of my family members visited the site Neopets, as she does almost everyday. What is strange is that every link she clicks on the site, be it for playing a game, checking contact information at the bottom of the site, starting a game etc, would cause a pop up to appear saying that we do not have the updated player. By pressing ok, it redirects us to a site called updateplayer.us. It is almost identical to the adobe/flash site which makes me believe that its some type of phishing scam. Furthermore, it will again redirect us to other sites, all similar but with different names (i.e. bamplay.net, and fatplay.net). These sites were identical to one another (bamplay and fatplay). So my question is, do we have a virus or malware on or mac? We have the lion OS. Everything is up to date, (flash player is 13.0.0.214) and our system updates are all up to date. We only download updates through system preferences/ software update. Other than pictures that we have recieved from friends and family, and the occasional pdf we download for school/taxes, the only downloading/installing we have done is from the system/flash updates. We don't visit any malicious websites and are fairly cautious internet users. This just started happening today for the first time ever, and it only appears to be happening on Neopets. Do we have a virus or malicious software installed? Everything else seems to be running fine. Safari still seems to be fast. Or is this something on Neopets end? I'm not very skilled with computers so any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
P.S.
Has anyone else who visits the site been experiencing this?

If Neopets requires Adobe Flash Player, always navigate on your own to Adobe's website and download the installer from them, and never from within someone else's website including this one. Fortunately, thousands of Apple Support Communities participants are here to rapidly respond to anyone's malicious intent.
Adobe's website is as follows, which you will be able to see for yourself exactly as it appears, in your browser's URL field:
https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Ignore unexpected popups or solicitations to update Flash Player; they can direct you to fraudulent sites that will attempt to convince you to install malicious software, or to reveal personal information such as your Apple ID credentials.
Or is this something on Neopets end?
That is another possibility, as are other potential causes, but the malicious router hacking I described is a serious concern and must be ruled out at your earliest opportunity.

Download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results into your reply. It's a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC to help identify the more obvious culprits.

Is it possible to use the old iMac 2010 21inch as an external monitor for my 15inch Macbook retina? E.g. Using a mini-display cable to connect from the imac mini display port to thunderbolt port on my macbook.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use an existing imac as a monitor for a new mac mini?

Unless it's a late 2009 27-inch iMac, all of the ways of doing it require an existing network connection, which requires a standalone monitor.

  • Malware or viruses have blocked the program files access and ultimately the antivirus

    Hi,
My computer has been prone to malwares or viruses, not pretty sure, but right now, i'm in trouble. My antivirus software folder is not opening, and gives error
"C:/program files/McAfee" is not accessible. Access denied"
I'm in one more trouble, whenever I install new antivirus, like ESET, or new antimalware like MalwareBytes, during the installation process, the process says that the particular
file (related to the software) cannot renamed, and access is denied MoveFile failed;code5
For example, I installed MalwareBytes software, and got this error:
    C:\Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Malwarebytes/Malwarebytes' Anti-malware/rules.ref
    An error occured while trying to rename a file in the destination directory;
    MoveFile failed; code 5.
    Access is denied.
Click Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or  Abort to cancel installation.
    ABORT,RETRY,IGNORE
Because of this, I don't know what malware or virus is in which part of the system
    EDITED TO ADD:
    OS:Windows XP service pack 2
How do we solve this problem?
    regards

There are a number of extremly dubious sites which claim to offer Drivers for common Hardware, but actually are phishing for identies and credit card numbers and candidates to join a bot-net.
Make absolutely certain you load drivers ONLY from the manufacturer's web site.

The creeps that generate this code figured that the iPhone since is is selling so well would be a great market for them even if iOS makes it impossible for their code to do anything practical unless it is jail broken first.

  • Malware and virus dangers.

I was just told that I need to be concerned about malware and viruses on iPhone and iPad. What is available to protect my devices?

Apple will update iOS accordingly If anything does happen. There is nothing to do or worry about If you aren't jailbroken.

  • Possible to upload viruses?

Is it possible to upload viruses onto your iPod? Like if I download music off a music program, and it may contain a virus, is it possible for the virus to get in the iPod and screw it up?

Yes, its called a worm that burrows itself into the file itself, rendering your IPODs hard drive corrupt. But in these days, you can't convince people to get their music from a known and reliable source, like the music store or ITunes. Folks don't even purchase anti-virus software to protect their systems. Worked on a computer the other day that had 1,635 viruses in the windows operating system alone. All could be traced back to P2P files. Great stuff those P2P networks. Keeps my checking account topped off each month, fixing screwed up computers (PCs that is).

  • Possible malware downloaded via email

I just opened an attachment from an email that claimed to be from Amazon on my iPad running iOS 7.0.4 and the iPad mail client.   Then I realized the email was fake.  What is the risk I downloaded malware and what can I do about it?

No.  The iPad is not suceptible tio Malware or Viruses of any kind.
If it did contain a malware it cannot run or alter anything on the iPad.
The best course of action is to delete the offending email.

  • Is it possible to swap out an imac g4 (800 mhz) motherboard with a mac mini

recently i found an old imac G4 (800 mhz) and i brought it back to its former glory, however ive noticed its preformance to be laggy and inefficent, so ive been considering getting a mac mini. but i dont want to leave the design of the imac G4, so is it possible to take out the imacs motherboard and such and make it a moniter to use in a mac mini?

No.  The heat and cooling mechanisms are different.
But you can use a Mac Mini temporarily in Target Disk Mode for extra storage, as long as you don't setup the extra storage to try to boot the Mac Mini.  Partitions allow you to select what you will boot on a Mac, if you have the right machines.  Note, new Mac Minis are formatted differently than the iMac G4 can support for reading.   An older Mac Mini G4 could double as external storage for the iMac G4 via Target Disk Mode.  Target Disk Mode does not transfer the processing power of the other machine, it merely makes the storage available.  And also the optical drive.

  • Virus And Malware Protection for my iMac Yosemite 10.10.1

    Hi,
My iMac starting opening random websites and I installed a free copy of Avast to take of it but I want to buy the best one. I'm looking for Virus and Malware protection for the lastest Yosemite.
    Thanks!

You installed adware along with something else you installed.
    Download and run Adware Medic.
Avoid purchasing any type of AV software. All such software only slows down Macs (and PCs), and for the most part, are utterly useless.
