Possible To Hook Up My Canon HI-8 Video Camera As A Webcam?

Hi Folks. I have an old Canon HI-8 video cam that I would like to experiment with and see if I could hook it up to my iBook G4 and use as a webcam. The camera is not a DV type, so I don't know if it would work or not. Would this be possible to try? What additional software/hardware would be needed if it can be done? Thanks steve

Use airplay to send what is on the iPad to your tv.
Since ipad2, you can display exactly what is on the ipad screento a tv via an adaper or via airplay through an apple TV.

Is there a program that will allow me yo doen load hd vidieo from my Canon Hd 10 to my Imac?

For a Mac?  Sure. If you have iMovie, Final Cut Express, or Final Cut Pro you can capture your HDV or DV clips with any of these apps.

  • IMovie '09 and Canon HV30 HD Video Camera

    Hi,
Hoping someone who has this camera can assist, but I am looking at purchasing this Video Camera at some stage but have the following queries please:
    a) Are there any connection issues b/w this camera and iMovie '09 when transferring footage to iMovie '09?
    b) Is it via Firewire or USB?
    c) Are there any major issues/show stoppers about this camera and iMovie '09?
    d) Is this a decent camera or is it worth getting a non MiniDV video camera?
    Thanks.
    Tony.

I have a HV20, which is almost identical to the 30:
    a. no connection issues
    b. it is firewire (tape miniDV are firewire)
    c. there is a discussion about export quality in this forum, but nothing to do with the camcorder
    d. the HV series is one of the best HD camcorders - check out some reviews...

You have 10.6 on that machine, I suggest you stick with it for performance, third party hardware and software reasons as long as possible.
Consider 10.8 (not 10.7) when it's released, because 10.7 and 10.8 will require a new investment in software and newer third party hardware as it requires newer drivers the old machines won't have. (forced upgrade because of software, really nice of them)

Far as your Safari problem do these things until it's resolved:
1: Software Update fully under the Apple menu.
2: Check the status of your plug-ins and update (works for all browsers) also install Firefox and see if your problems continue. You should always have at least two browsers on the machine just in case one fails.

I just bought a recertified Mac Mini core duo - it's not the newer model-, and I wonder if anyone here knows if it's possible to hook up my Mac flat screen LCD monitor to it  and using what adapters? I currently have a DVI to ADC adapter connected to my G4 Powermac.
The company I bought it from is not Apple, and I may regret that. It was in my price range, though.
This is the first time I've used this community, and I've been a Mac owner since 2000. Thanks in advance!

when you say "Mac flat screen LCD", do you mean this:

There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.
    Another option:
Expand your iPad's storage capacity with HyperDrive

  • Is it possible to hook up a USB drive to a SCSI computer?

Is it possible to hook up a USB drive to a SCSI computer? I have an old Mac Color Classic and I'm wondering if there is any way of connecting a newer harddrive to it.
if you are wondering why, it is because I am trying to transfer a lot of data back and forth between it and my iMac G5

    Jim,
I may have posted my own question someplace, I am not familiar with these forums. I have a Mac OS 9.2.2, with 144 MB built in memory, Virtual Memory: 300 MB used on my hardrive. I'm just now pricing and trying to figure out how all this is going to get done, with my lack of the internal works of computers. When I first bought a computer a advertising agency in Montana, set up the entire works for me, it was wonderful, I needed nothing for years. Then I started working online and found I needed another computer. A Mac person here, set this up, about 4 or 5 yrs ago, this computer came out of one of the Colleges too. Its been very good for what I do, graphics ad layouts etc. However I'm finding it outmoded for even the Washington Sec. state site online, I search for Genealogy info. I've decided, in buying a iMac x 4, with bluetooth, I'm not working full time now so figure this should be enough for me to get by on, with the minimal amount of Graphics documents I create anymore. I have a older version iomega External Zip Drive, that uses a scsi hook up, what I am in need of now I guess is a Zip Drive with USB. Another option for transferring my files apparently, is to connect my older computer to the new iMac on what is called a Ethernet Router, in order to transfer a lot of my files off my computer as well as the many many Zip Disks I have, but I am not sure if I should try tackling this job myself. I have not found any Mac salesperson as of yet in this inland Northwest area, that seems to know much about Macs and for sure do not know anyone here in this area that works on Macs. Over the years I got most of my info. through the Newspaper, Printers & Mags that I worked with, of late I haven't the option. If you know of anyone in this area that does work with Macs please advise me. At this point I think I am going to try all this myself, but I might get in a wreck and need help. Thanks Dee

  • My Mac does not have a firewire port to hook up my Canon HD video camera.  How do I do it?

I am trying to figure out how to hook my Canon HD video camera to my MacBook Pro, but there does not seem to be a firewire port on the computer.  How do I do this?

If, as your tagline says, you have a late 2011 MacBook Pro then you do have a firewire port, it's marked with this symbol:

Have you downloaded the approriate Snow Leopard drivers for that printer? Make sure you get the appropriate and latest MP Navigator, as you start scans from the computer, not the all-in-one.  Get them from http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_s eries/pixma_mp830#DriversAndSoftware

  • IMovie wont' recognize my Canon Digital Video Camera

When I hook up my Canon ZR70 MC digital video camera through my firewire port, iMovie doesn't recognize it even after I did the following:
turned the camera on and off.
took the tape in and out.
restarted computer with the camera in.
After speaking to Canon technical support, they've determined that since 'DV In' was blinking on the camcorder screen, there must be a problem with the firewire cable, the port, or I'd need a firewire update. I'm running OSX 10.4.5.
Anybody had this problem before? I doubt it's the cable or the port because both are new. And I tried it on multiple computers. Please help.

    sstrickeler,
    First a few questions.
Has the camera ever worked correctly?
Are there any other FireWire devices attached to the computer?
Is the camera running of battery power or A/C?

  • If I download a video from my video camera to a new (current 1/12) iMac 21 inch, how can I burn it to a DVD using the computer itself. Is this possible? Do I need to buy additional software. Two salespeople at the Apple were a little confused about this.

If I download a video from my video camera to a new (current 1/12) iMac 21 inch, how can I burn it to a DVD using the computer itself. Is this possible? Do I need to buy additional software. Two salespeople at the Apple were a little confused about this. Thank you.

The DVD recorder I'm referring to is one I've use for years. It is not attached to my aging iMac in any way. I simply play the video from my camcorder (mini-dv tape based Canon HV20)  into the DVD recorder and create a DVD that can be played in any DVD player. I can only do minimum editing so what goes in is what I get. This has been fine for creating dupes of the various things I shoot.
If I buy a new iMac (21 inch), I'd like to be able to download the video to the iMac through iMovie, work with it to whatever degree I wish, and burn it to a DVD that can also be played in any DVD player -- or to use as a master to dupe copies.
What I'm understanding from you and others is that this would be possible if Apple had included iDVD in the software that comes with the iMac, or if I purchase the iLife Family Pack, or buy the correct version of Toast. I'm hoping I can persuade Apple to sell me an iMac with iDVD installed.
Essentially I want to move from a basic process of creating DVD copies to the more sophisticated process of creating one from an iMac.
Thank you again for your help and wisdom.

  • Is it possible to upload pictures from iPhoto to my digital camera?

Anybody know if it is possible to upload pics from iphoto to my digital camera? I have a Canon ixus.

Yes it is, but you'll need a USB Card Reader. Canon Cameras don't mount in the Finder. It's a "feature" of the brand. So, take the card from the camera and pop it into a USB Card Reader. Now it will appear on the Desktop like any disk. Then simply export the pics from iPhoto (File -> Export) and copy them to the Card.

  • HG 10 Canon Video Camera...Cannot Get iMovie 8 to Recognize Camera

I just got a HG 10 Canon Video camera. I took it out of the box, hooked up the USB cable and iMovie doesn't want to recognize it. It almost did once, but then it was lost. Any tips? I've seemingly tried everything.
