Possible to read file from HD in open firmware?
So we have this ancient iBook whose 40GB hard drive is pretty frotzed (won't boot, Disk Utility says that keys in the catalog are out of order, Disk Warrior sits there forever).
If I come up in Open Firmware I can see at least many of the files on the hard disk, using "dir hd:\" and so on. So -something- is still there.
There's one text file that I can see via the OF "dir" word, and I'd really really like to see the content of the file. Is there some way to do that? The "load" word in OF will load boot-comand-file-things, but when I try to use it to read this file it says "unrecognized client program format" or something, presumably because it's just a text file and not a boot command file thing.
Is there any way at all to get the OF environment to load this file's contents into memory so I can dump them? Just being able to read the words in the file would be extremely helpful.
(In the longer term, there are a few unbackedup mp3 files and so on that I'd also like to be able to somehow copy off; but for today if I could just dump the words in this one text file to the screen I would be ecstatic!)

Long hold on the document in mail and it should give you the open in... option, select adobe reader and the file is now saved locally for viewing even while offline.

Yes it is possible to read data from a non SAP server through the statement OPEN DATASET.
The important thing to check is that the SAP Server got enough access to the non SAP server so it can perform a reading/writing process depending on your needs.
You should contact your network administrator and BASIS to help you check the permissions. This can be pretty tricky, specially if the servers are in different domains.

Basically, we just want to use a custom URL scheme to open a specific document in the App. Currently, this only opens the app but does not load the file.
APBNot to hijack the conversation but I can explain why this would be useful for both the above case and another.
What I believe Pavel is talking about is setting up a "URL Scheme" for the Adobe Acrobat iOS application so that you can easily open a PDF specifically in Adobe Acrobat iOS from other native applications and even from web applications opened within Safari. This is particularly useful if your application requires some of the specific features in Adobe Reader iOS to grant them the best experience possible and you want to encourage this.
Another case: If you're using Adobe Livecycle's document security modules (that encrypts PDF files so that Adobe Acrobat must "phone home" to decrypt and view the document), these PDF's can only be viewed inside the Adobe Acrobat application and appear as blank in most other PDF readers. Having a URL scheme allows your application utilising this functionality to have a 1 click step to view the PDF rather than the current non-user friendly process:
- Within Safari, touch the PDF link (appears as blank in the default Safari PDF reader, which in itself is confusing)
- Touch "Open in..."
- Touch "Adobe Acrobat"
We have an immediate need for this functionality for the example above. I can resubmit it in a separate post if necessary. -
the Wifi storage options are interesting but it seems they only allow to read files from the device on the iPad but not transfer files to the storage device via WiFi.
I'm looking for a possibility to use the iPad for photography while traveling, without the access to a computer.
Shooting photo's in RAW format crates pretty big files that will fill up the iPad's memory pretty fast if you shoot a lot during a (let's say) month long trip.
my idea was to use load the photo's to the iPad so i could view them and sort out any bad ones. then copy them over to the storage device so i can continue using my CF cards for shooting. I have an image thank for copying the photo's directly to the HDD but it would be so sweet to be able to check them on the iPad before hand.

Can the aTV read files from an iTunes library on my nas drive without my computer being on
I have my itunes library on a My Book Live nas drive that contains all of my digital movies and TV shows. I want to be able to watch my movies from the library without a computer running. I understand that Apple has chosen to chain you to the computer and your itunes account through Home Sharing but I can not see why they couldn't allow you to access a nas drive without a computer running because your aTV is tied to your itunes account also so why do they force you to run a computer 24/7 365 in order to access the files you have bought and paid for.
I have a love/hate for Apple because I love the quality of the products they make but I hate how they make all of the digital files you purchase only accessible through a computer running Home Sharing even though the files are not stored on the computer.
I have tried several things to get this to work without a computer but no luck. The only way I have found to be able to do this is to Jailbreak your aTV and install 3rd party software (which I don't want to do) that will allow you to by pass the computer and Home Sharing (which is dumber than ****) because that is all I want to do is eliminate the need of a computer running wasting electricity (I thought Apple was supposed to be an enviro friendly company, guess not). I am not trying to steal or give someone else my purchased movies and using the aTV and an internet connection they could still be able to tie your media to your itunes account so I just don't get there thinking, or lack of thinking I should say.
Is their a way to do this without Jailbreaking or modifying your aTV?
If not is Apple ever going to wake up and allow there customers to actually USE the media they purchase from them without Home Sharing and a computer running?_Skull wrote:

My program is currently reading a file from server using "open dataset" with file path like this (just example)
/usr/interface/abc/bcd/testfile.dat
Now I got a requirement to make it more consistent to read files, instead of reading that physical file name, I should read the files from a specific folder using logical path.
So I go to T code "FILE" and created a logical path called ZABC_FILE_PATH, unix compatible, with physical path is (for example),
/usr/interface/<sysid>/<client>/<filename>
My question is, can I still use open dataset statement to read this? if yes, how do I do that? If no, there should be alternative way, please let me know what you think. Thanks,Thanks all, I figured it out.

Is it possible to move files from corrupted sectors hard drive to a replacement one?
My 2011 macbook pro was recently diagnosed with bad sectors. I am looking to get a replacement hard drive, probably a 750 or 1 tb Seagate SATA. Do you think that is sufficient? I do not play games or do anything memory intensive. The most I do is watch a lot of movies.
Also, is it possible to move files from a corrupted sectors hard drive to the replacement? If so, how would I go about doing this?
Also, for the operating system, it is probably wrong, and can't check since my Mac pro won't get past half way on the start up loading screen.Try a sector copy with CCC and enable using checksum file copy to insure integrity.
Then Data Rescue 4 - try demo before buying
Do a full erase of a drive before reusing.
Invest in SoftRAID.com going forward as it "looks for" weak sectors, alerts.
Also Google around but SMART Utility has been mentioned as an excellent program/utility -
When a drive has used any of its spare blocks from when it ships is #1 indicator of being time to replace.
And of course always have multiple backup sets, methods and know how to use and restore from. Even do a practice set. I would not use just TimeMachine for instance.
And for some, only a mirror array (minimum two but really consider three drive mirror, with stripe reads to improve performance) can allow pulling one, add a new member and still have a two drive mirror.
Cloud storage for backup. With OneDrive and Facebook backing up all the photos on all your devices, Macs and PCs as well as tablets and phones, you can have 100-200GB quite easily. And there is Google Drive and Amazon as well as others.
A new data drive, a drive to do all the recovery of files that were on the failed drive(s), and probably a clean system drive and use that as you recover and build your system back up. -
Reading files from a mapped drive

I am trying to pull image files off of a network share in Oracle Forms.
Everytime I do this, I get error FRM-47109 Cannot locate image file..... i
have tried accessing this drive with 2 methods:
1. Button trigger calls with READ_IMAGE_FILE(:datablock.imagelocation ||
:datablock.filename || '.tif', 'ANY', BLOCK7.IMAGE_ITEM);
2. Button trigger calls with READ_IMAGE_FILE('\\server\images\'
||:CRASH_IMAGES.folder || '\' || :crash_images.docno ||'.tif',
'ANY', 'BLOCK7.IMAGE_ITEM');
Both of these calls work on the development side where the T:\ drive is mapped.
When the form is put on the production server with the same T:\ drive mapping,
the image is unable to be located.
I have also found Microsoft article Q122702, which explains how network shares
are distributed to services. I have edited the registry key
RestrictNullSessAccess to a value of 0, and remapped the drive using: NET USE
T: \\server\images /user:Administrator password.
None of this has worked for me so far, and I have been informed of possible
issues with forms and mapped network drives. Has anyone seen this before or know of a fix?

Erase a corrupted file from Premier without opening
Is there any way to erase a corrupted file from Premiere without opening it? Choosing to "Skip" the file when it asks for its location does not help. It is still on the timeline and freezing up the opening process. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the advice. I used the term "corrupted" in a very loose way. The file is not officially corrupt but it is the one that was hanging up the program. What was weird is that my auto backup copy (which I am now using) was only 31 megs where as the ppro file that was hanging was 110. Not sure how it almost quadrupled in size?

My requirement is to List the files in the folder using FTP adapter and get the file name with the least file stamp from the FTP adapter and pass the FileName dynamically to another FTP adapter which reads the file based on the FileName. Trying to read files from a dir on my site using a JSP and bean. I've tried nearly every option for the filepath I can think of and it doesn't seem to be finding the file...
Here's the bit:

It's working locally, but I obviously had to change the path from c://... to the above.
The full code is listed below in the addWedding Method
The method removes the .jpg from the file name and then writes the new file name to a database

Is it possible to delete files from time machine? I had a drive crash, restored the files to a new drive, and now the old versions and the new versions of the files are both backed up, taking up a mountain of drive space. Do I just have to wait 'til the drive gets full and then tell it what to delete first?
Hi, I need help in a related problem. I have 500gb time capsule. I needed larger hard drive, so I now use TM to back up to a different 1tb hard drive. So I don't need the TC as a TM back up device. But I want to use the TC's hard drive as an extra external hard drive. I deleted the files that were on it. but it still shows it has a sparsebundle file with a size of over 400gb ( probably the size of the old backups). When I use disk utility to try to erase it, I am not offered the erase tab. This "disk" does show on the desk top as a mounted disk (I think) with only 53 gb free. How can I set this up so all the disk space is free and I can use it for storing files, not as a back up? Thanks
