Post 10.5.2 Graphics update doesn't resolve PPC problems?

I was hoping that Graphics update was going to resolve the odd graphical anomalies I encounter when opening Time Machine, or Numbers files that have 3D charts. Nope...
...does anyone have a link to what the graphics update was specifically meant to resolve?

I've noticed the same thing, on my PPC Mini, I still have the graphics tearing/shearing, even with the graphics update.

  • "Security Update 2008-008 (Client PPC)" problems

    Hi,
I updated my G4 yesterday with 'Security Update 2008-008 (Client PPC)' & stuck with blue screen with spinning wheel. I tried booting it in safe mode, but it didn't help. Still the same. Pressing 'C' with install disk gives access to Disk Utility, I verified permissions, which goes smooth. Can not proceed with installation since have only 700 MB available disk space & no backup.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Mahesh, and a warm welcome to the forums!
hpr3 has some good advice, but just to add...
700MB free space is a real problem, quite likely OSX will start self destructing below 2-3 GB free space, and really be slowed down with less than 20% free space on the HDD.
You simply must get another Drive & backup, so you can Install the OS again.

  • Photoshop CS5 update doesn't fix artifact problem in the menu bar !

    Hi to all,
I've installed the new update (december 7) recommended by Adobe, but that doesn't fix the Artifact problems in the menu bar !!!
More, with my Windows 7 Pro (French language), Photoshop CS5 video pilot create artifacts in the menu bar in several situations.
With Windows classic Theme chosen, theme management disabled:
    1. Opening a photo and applying a filter (especially Noise Reduction).
    2. Opening a photo and changing some preferences.
    3. Opening a photo with Windows 7 File Explorer working cause the pilot to crash with a black screen, ans followed by a message saying that Win 7 has recovered the video pilot.
To suppress most of the problems, I need to Activate "Themes" and choose an Aero theme or the Basic Theme.
I also need to activate some items that slow the PC !
    Very strange !
Could someone help, me please ?
    Have a Nice Day.
    Thierry

Yes, I've an Asus ENGT220/G/DI/1GD3, tried Windows default pilot, 2009 Asus pilot "nv19045_Win7Vista64.zip", and 2010 latest version "nv25919_Win7Vista64.zip", no change !
More, I've exchanged the video car by a "monster" ENGTX465 with it's driver, NO CHANGE !
    So what to do ?!
    Help, please !

  • Display problems after installing 10.5.2 and the leopard graphics update

Shortly after installing the leopard graphics update, my display started exhibiting problems.
The next day, the powerbook wouldn't even boot, just leaving me at a blue screen.
I tried verifying permissions and verifying disk, reinstalling leopard and eventually did a fresh install of Tiger, which boots, but crashes frequently and has graphics corruption as visible in this screenshot:
    http://pics.livejournal.com/dorukai/pic/000fw0hw
The same corruption is visible on a second monitor if I connect one.
The timing (being right after installing the graphics update) suggests that the update somehow caused this problem (flashing the video card firmware maybe?) but any ideas at all are very welcome at this point!
Unfortunately after installing Tiger I kept getting updates, and one has broken the ability to boot normally, I can only boot in safe mode

I have the same problem. It happened right after I installed the graphics update. When the computer restarted, my screen went crazy. I couldn't see anything, just a screen full of horizontal lines. After restarting a couple of times it seemed to go away, but it has begun to happen again recently. although not as bad yet. I am not saying it's not a logic board issue, but it does seem funny that more than one person is experiencing the same type of problem after the graphics update. I guess it's time to take a trip to the apple store.

I have unexpected duplicates in my contacts that happens when I sync with Outlook 2010 and icloud.  This article refers me to another article which says that if that doesn't resolve the problem, which is doesn't click here...which brings me back to this article.  Setting up icloud has made a complete mess of my OUtlook contacts right when I'm trying to do my Christmas Card mailing...
I'm a fairly competent user and have checked and double checked all my settings but the duplications keep happening and proliferating!!!

  • HP Support Assistant not installing graphics updates

I am trying to update my graphics driver through the HP Support Assistant, as it tells me that there is an update to it. It goes through the process of downloading the update, but it doesn't instal. I have already tried uninstalling the support assistant with Microsoft Fixit and reinstalling. I even ran the assistant as Administrator to see if it was a permissions issue. Unfortunately the driver page for my computer (http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-110-000-Desktop-PC-series/5359000/model/5365304/drivers) does not have the new one 10.18.10.3621Ap1/sp67247.
Do I need to delete my old graphics driver first? Is there a place where I can just direct download it and install myself? Is there a location where the Support Assistant downloads it to that I can get it from there? Any help that isn't simply "Uninstall and Reinstall" would be greatly appreciated.
Included are pictures of the Support Assistant and what is happening.

  • Firmware Graphics Update

I installed the latest Max OS update and was prompted to install this firmware graphics update. The wireless mouse and keyboard were not recognized and I couldn't select Update to start the install. I then connected a USB mouse and keyboard and this worked. This firmware graphics update has been updating for the last 30 minutes or so.
What I am getting is a picture of my desktop and the circular progress meter going. I don't think it should be taking this long. Has anyone have any solution to this? Prior to me selecting the Update the message stated that I wait until the update is complete and I shouldn't power cycle the iMac.
iMac 24 Inch display 2.8Ghz, 2600 graphics card

Chuy I recommend the following (best advice I can offer w/o having done this update on that system:
    1. worry (I loathe Firmware updates that don't behave they way they are sposed to...)Touch nothing.
    2. grab a strong drink if you drink .. Carefully check that you followed all the firmware update instructions precisely from the beginning (even check the apple site on another computer - I'm surprised: usually the instructions say - in step #1 *First remove all non-apple devices*, USB, Firewire etc etc...*)
    3. call the /your local Apple dealer/superstore and ask to speak to a genuine wizard or guru Give your name (make sure you *get all their names* and write them down)
    4. seek their advice:
ask what will happen if you end up with an unresponsive/unbootable mac...after following their advice.. and how you will fix it. Write down their advice, read it back, then follow it precisely - after thanking them by name.
    5. If it works, ring back, ask for them by name , get the store's support email address, thank them profusely & drop a brief email To ATTN Manager*support.... CC Wizard thanking them in writing. (everyone likes appreciation).
    6. If it doesn't work, ring back, ask for them by name, get them (no-one else) and plot a 'fix' strategy....
    Repeat from step 5.
+Finally, it's not required but it'd be nice if you posted back here...+ (I'm assuming you're getting email via another method)
Best wishes & best of luck (no - it shouldnt take THAT long w/o warning you first)

  • Problems with Snow Leopard Graphics Update

I downloaded the new graphics update for Snow Leopard, but when I go to install it it says I need at least a version 10.6.4 OS to use it. I double checked my OS, and that is exactly what I have. What's the problem?

Well I found out what was going on in another thread, apparently my computer already has it incorporated in it, just Steam doesn't recognize that.

  • Clicking 'update' in software update doesn't update

Clicking update doesn't do anything, these remain in my window. I tried restarting but issue remains.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Graphics update = screen-tearing in Safari

Has anyone else who has installed the Snow Leopard Graphics Update noticed a pronounced screen-tearing effect when scrolling in Safari? The first left 10% of a Safari window appear to be totally out of sync with the rest of the page.
UPDATE: The same effect doesn't appear to happen in Firefox. Maybe it's limited to Safari?

  • HP Pavilion dv6-6130eo, Radeon HD 6770M, switchable graphics, update Catalyst Control Center

    Computer: HP Pavilion dv6-6130eo
    I have installed windows 7 64 bit
Graphics cards: Switchable Intel and Radeon HD 6770M
So far, I have been using the graphics driver provided by HP including Catalyst Control Center, and it has been working fine.
I recently bought a new game: Wolfenstein:New order. I fulfill minimum requirements.
When trying to run the game, I am informed, that my Catalyst Control Center must be 14.4 or newer: Fatal error, and game cannot run.
How can I update my Catalyst Control Center to 14.4 or newer? Both graphics cards (switchable) should be working.
Thanks a lot in advance - This issue is really getting on my nerves!

    Hi @Guggermand
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using the forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience in the HP forum, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that your notebooks works fine except when you try to play your new Wolfenstein New Order game, at which time it informs you that your Catalyst Control Center is out of date and must be 14.4 or higher.  You stated  installed Windows 7 64 bit.
Have you done all your Windows updates?
Have you ran The HP Support Assistant to aid with updating drivers and resolving issues.
Here is a link to the latest recommended  HP driver AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver sp55092.exe for you system.
If that does not update your current version of the Catalyst Control Center, you will need to check the AMD website.

  • No Photo Booth after graphics update

says it doesn't support my graphics card - ***?!

After graphics update, isight doesn't work. Any program that uses iSight crashes as soon as soon as isight starts to kick in, including Skype after I turn on the video. Also, photo booth crashes just before the video starts. Imovie also quits when i turn on the video.

  • 10.5.2 Graphics update not loading

Well after some trepidation I decided to go ahead and load the graphics update anyway (I don't use DVD player at all, and I wanted the graphics update so that Warcraft will run better).
But it won't install it for me!
I get an error message which reads:
The update “Leopard Graphics Update” can’t be saved.
The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by “Apple”
Does anyone have any ideas? Or should I just wait till the graphics update gets revamped?
    Thanks!

Stumbled upon this thread trying to find out if anyone's seen before what happened on my macbook pro this morning. it was the first time last night that i left X11 running before closing the lid for sleeping. this morning i was greeted with this:
    http://files.dataring.ee/27022008057.jpg
Disconnecting the external monitor in the hopes that it would somehow reset the display driver did not help, nor did reconnecting it. I could hear the sound effects of the software still running (Skype sounds etc) so I did not want to just power off the machine and risk some data corruption, I navigated blindly to the Apple menu and try to hit the 9th item from the top for Restart. There was some feedback from changing menu items with these random color blocks changing, same for cmd-tab activity etc, so definitely looks like a corrupt display driver problem and most like regarding running X11.
Now I am checking macosforge and it does appear that I am running an outdated XQuartz from last December. I'll hit the upgrade and see what happens.
Perhaps this is related some way to the original post!

  • 10.5.2 update and Leopard Graphics update = no sleep mode

All, After updating my MacBook Pro to 10.5.2 and the Leopard Graphics update, my computer will not longer enter sleep mode after a specified time. I can manually set the computer to sleep mode, but it will not automatically go to sleep mode. I have tried resetting the System Management Control Center VIA http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319 and everything else in that doc.
    Any suggestions?
    TIA Jon

Call AppleCare and see if they can help.
    Regular trouble shooting
    1) Create a new account, name it test or something
    2) log into that account to see if the behavior changes
    3) If it does, then there is some problem in your own account.
    4) If it doesn't, restart.
    5) If the behavior still doesn't change, there is some system configuration error
    In this case
    6) Open Disk Utility. Verify your disk, then repair permissions (not likely to fix the problem but will at least eliminate that possibilty)
    7) Get a copy of Leopard Cache Cleaner and do a MODERATE cache cleaning
    8) Restart
If still not fixed, reset PRAM and the SMU. Look on the Apple web site for instructions for your particular computer.
If still not different, do an Archive and Install. However go to the Apple web site and download the 10.5.2 Combo updater first. After you Archive and Install from either the disk that came with your computer (assuming that it is Leopard) or the retail Leopard installer. Then run the combo updater. Then run Software Update.
These problems are disturbing and really shouldn't happen, but they do. However, they can be fixed and you'll find that Mac OS is, overall, much better than the alternatives.
BTW, I just went through this whole mess for crashes on wake from sleep (USB issues) and failure to sleep (printer driver issue). Another computer had DHCP problems and actually needed a reinstall. However both of them are working fine now even though it was a pain getting there.

  • No sound output after 10.5.2 & Graphics Update

Installed 10.5.2 and the graphics update last night. Today, come home after work. Startup the computer, and sound is playing from the internal speakers, rather than my externals which I've had for years (and worked fine yesterday). When I go to the Sound Prefs, all that shows is the built-in speakers. Have tried external speakers, headphones - doesn't see either.
Anyone have any advice, having the same issue?
