Potential spam/hacking tentative

I have just receive an email telling me there would be a problem with my account, and it needs to be verified by clicking a link, otherwise my account will get closed. Since the english is quite bad, I tend to believe that it is a tentative for hacking.

To: 'rfc822 Compliance issue line added by system POTENTIAL Spam" <nobody@????.com>'
Our smtp server is hosted on primary-domain. For secondary-domain, I created MX record pointed to primary-domain.
Why I am getting this zunk in From and To address.
Please Help me with this problem.
    Thanks in advance,
    V.T.Krishna.

You are trying to use your mail server (primary-domain.com) to send mail that appears to have come from a different mail server (second-domain.com). This is a favourite trick of spammers. If you want to do this you should connect to the second-domain mail server and use it. Or you should use a from-address that belongs to the primary-domain.

  • Spam / hacked previously deleted email account - what can i do?

I thought I was able to delete a sky email account by removing the additional user from My Sky (did this a few years ago) however it appears that the account wasn't acutally deleted and that someone had gained access as random emails have been sent from the old account over the last few years - some were received into my new acocunt. I tried to contact sky last year - heard nothing back but the emails seem to stop coming into the newer account. I have now been contacted by a friend this morning who said that my account may have been hacked has he has received some dodgy emails What can I do?  I can no longer access the email as the sky id was deleted  Please help me!?

The problem is that your account may not have been hacked. It is a favourite trick of scammers to spoof an email address so that it looks like it is coming from you, but it is not. Ask your friends to carefully examine the email headers and they will probably find it is actually coming from a completely different address. Unfortunately I don't think there is much you can do about it, except advise your friends that you are not sending the emails.

    Hi,
I recently had my email shut down because i was a victim of spam hacks and I just found out that I actually dont remember my password correctly. I know my secret questions answer because it sends the passord to the email succesfully, but its useless in this case.
Is there any way i can retrieve my account details and transfer it to a different email(my new one)?
Can i remake a new Blackberry ID?I never bought anything and dont have any credit card details on my account so I dont care if i lose it,but I was wondering if the account has anything to do with the actual phone itself.
Thank you in advance and I hope you can help me out in some sort of way,

  • SPAM effectiveness report for an internal user

Years ago on a previous product, we had a report we could run which would show the SPAM effectiveness for an individual user.  This was useful for associates who felt they were receiving too much SPAM, when in reality, we were stopping 99.4% of the SPAM destined for them and the 2 they received over the past month were not devastating.
I looked through the reports available from the ESAs but do not see anything similar.  We are running ESA 7.6.3-019 and SMA 7.9.0-107.
    Thanks

    Hello Mark,
in general spam efficiency reports would not work for individual, mainly because the spam detection process is not only limited to the spam engine, the major work is actually done by the reputation engine. In other words, senderbase, which on average blocks more that 90% of all connection attempts, mostly from hosts with a score of -5 or worse. By default these connections are already dropped before sender and recipients are injected, so the system is not aware who the potential spam was targeted for.
You could work around this by enabling delayed HAT rejection, which would still wait until sender and recipients are injected, before disconnecting.  In this case, you can check
    GUI: Monitor->Incoming Mail
specify a time range, and then enter the internal user in the search field below the main table. Or leave it empty and just hit "Search" for a list of all users, the list then can be sorted by clicking on the column names.  The result table will contain entries like "Total Attemted" and "Spam Detected", and of course the results can be exported as well.
Hope that is what you are looking after.
    Regards,
    Andreas

  • Turning off spam notification on subjet line?

Is there a way on Exchange 2010 to turn off the potential spam/marketing warning? I do not want to turn off spam filtering itself. I could not find a setting for this in Outlook so I'm convinced it must be on Exchange.

    Hi,
    Yes, as what
VinodKP says we can remove these messages by creating transport rules. If you want to stop sending the spam/marketing warning to just one user, I recommend that we can use the Outlook rule to achieve
it. It would be more convenient to be created and managed by client user.
If you still want to turn off Spam notification, there are several
types of notifications. Please check your notification by the following article to configure or disable it:

  • Loss of sending email using WIFI

As of this morning 8-20-08, after updating to 2.02, I no longer am able to send emails using my own wireless network. Previously this was no problem. Neither Fido or Apple have any idea of what I am talking about. Fido washed their hands as they do not support WIFI. How convenient, they sell the phone and charge for the service but do not support it. Videotron, my ISP, thinks the issue is my wireless router but I can send via gmail so that's out. I resovled the problem by configuring my accounts to use my gmail smtp server as a second option and now the spinning wheel is short lived and messages are sent.
I'm sorry to say that I had fallen for all the hype about Apple but truth is they are but a Microsoft wannabe.
    Disinchanted

    So here's the wierd thing.
I was having the same problems. Set up SMTP for Videotron when at home using relais.videotron.ca SMTP with no authenticationon port 25 & all was good in the world. However when I went out, bang. Nothing. Couldn't send a mail for love nor money.
Thought aboutit & changed settings to use relais.videotron.ca SMTP, but this time using authentication of vltl** / password credentials with no SSL (Videotron doesn't use SSL) and again everything was fine. Of course, when I got home again, bang. Everything fell over & no more mail sending foe me!
So I figure, when I'm at home I'm on my trusted network at port 25, I don't need authentication and all is good, but when I'm out i'm seen as potential SPAM by port 25 on videotron & get blocked.
Tried using port 587 instead when for both home & mobile but had no luck either.
Then a strange thing happened. I'd resolved to having to set up 2 SMTP servers on my iPhone & switching between the two based on where I was. Pain in the a**, but there's always a trade off for early adopter technology So I set up my primary SMTP to use port 25 with no authentication, and a secondary server to use the same relais.videotron.ca outgoing server, but this time WITH authentication using vltl** \ password credentials.
After a walk to the shop when I'd been on my secondary SMTP server (successfully sending & recieving) I came home & inadvertantly forgot to swith back to my primary SMTP. Recieved a mail & then responded with no problem!
Net result, I now have a permanently switced off primary server & a permanently switched on secondary server which uses relais.videotron.ca details with vltl** \ password authentication credentials active (like I did on my old silver iPhone) & all is good in the world, both at home & out mobile, both for sending & recieving!
Will field test some more tomorrow but it may be a 2.0.2 bug where ther primary server details fcuk up whereas the secondary server details are stable.
So long as it works, who cares!

  • HT5193 I want to use Apple TV in a hospital classroom setting and IT is concerned about security (patient information). Is this an issue and how can I put them at ease?

I want to use the Apple TV to create an interactive white board type setting in the classroom. I appreciate the help.

My first reply was probably a bit vague but it's not clear exactly what you're planning to do.
Anyhow first off, remember this is simply a user to user forum and is not an Apple staffed technical advice area so no one here can accept any responsibility for the implementation you attempt.
If you intend to do anything that could potentially compromise patient confidentiality you must get appropriate advice from suitable agencies including your IT dept and probably Apple itself. Depending which country you are in you will be subject to local healthcare laws aimed at protecting patient confidentiality.
As users we know next to nothing about AppleTV under the hood security.
AppleTV runs a version of iOS just like iPhones and iPads.
There is no antivirus/firewall software for iOS as it's already pretty locked down.
That does not mean it is 100% secure as nothing is, and all these devices can potentially be hacked.
AppleTV itself does not store any content permanently, losing data when it's unplugged, so that is probably not an issue unless someone was going to attempt a forensic style data rescue from the internal components.
If your IT dept allows iPhones or iPads on the network then in principle it's the same, and in many ways less of an issue as it doesn't support 3rd party apps, only a small selection of features from Apple and selected partners.
I assume for your whiteboard plan this would entail using a touch screen like an iPad for mirroring.  Be aware that fullscreen mirroring will send a 4:3 image to the display as the iPad screen is 4:3 not 16:9 (widescreen).
You need to work with your IT dept to assess the feasibility of what you want to do - unless you need internet access, to me it would seem a standalone local network without internet connectivity might remove some concerns about devices connecting to the main hospital network.  Maybe their concern is simply wifi and possible interecption of data sent to the AppleTV - this would likely be a proprietary screen sharing format for Airplay but it could still potentially be intercepted on wifi though I can't really see why anyone would want to as the data would probably be pretty useless to them unless this was a specific attempt to capture Airplay streams and people knew what they were doing and had compromised your wifi security.
    Good luck.

  • Public-facing on-premises SharePoint with NTLM authentication

I've been searching for authentication best practices for public-facing SharePoint site but I didn't find any useful resources on the issue that is troubling me.
Assume I set up a web application with Classic NTLM authentication. On that web application I enable
Anonymous access. This means that users inside organization's network will be able to authenticate (actually use SSO) using organization's DC. They will be able to access and administer all content. All other anonymous users will be able to see
published content only i.e. content which is permitted to anonymous users.
My question is: Is this kind of setup a security issue because if a potential attacker hacks a WFE then he has direct access to DC?
Is FBA maybe a better solution for public-facing sites? Or maybe use NTLM, but create a separate domain with one-way trust to organization's domain?

There are many variations you can take with this - and really you need to consider more than just your content. For true separation:
I would have a dedicated DC to manage service accounts.
I would break up my DMZ behind firewall contexts with a reverse proxy publishing SharePoint at the edge.
    proxy/firewall -- SP Server -- Firewall -- SQL/DC
For true separation you don't want to share any underlying infrastructure with internal either, although in reality logical separation is usually enough.
Now you have to deal with internal user authentication and how to handle that. The first thing is I would have at minimum two webs available, your primary for editing and the extended version for public access.
While a one way trust would work - you still do expose user info out to the public which you may not want. With this configuration you could configure people picker to only select from a particular OU to minimize this.
Another option however is to look at using ADFS between your domains and create the trust there. You would have to configure the farm for claims auth to make this work, but this would eliminate the possibility of probing all the users in AD or the OU you expose.
With the ADFS method when you update documents you user name is still tagged to content - however if you don't populate the user profiles this will be the only information available about any internal user.
You may even want to go a step further and when you extend the public site, use forms authentication but don't provide any users. Then there is no authenticated access from the public URL. And with ADFS/Reverse Proxy may you even be able to configure some pre
authentication for your internal users before they can even reach the internal SharePoint pages.
I would strongly consider moving to SharePoint 2013 and looking at the cross site publishing (2010 and below have the content publishing - but stay away from that, when it works it's great, but when it doesn't it's a PITA to get back in sync). with cross site
publishing you have an editing site and the publishing site pulls from the Search index and the permissions are completely separate.

  • Can't Separate Movies in Sceneline

I am trying to create a movie that consists of multiple MPG clips. When I drag the clips to the Sceneline in the "Drag Next Clip Here" section, they combine with the first clip in the Sceneline. I cannot get the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th movie clips to be SEPARATE in the Sceneline, so that I can apply transitions between them.  Why is this happening?

Camera is a Sony Handycam HDR-XR500 (an AVCHD model)
These videos were shot at SD (not in high def).
If the video files that you are currently adding to your project are AVCHD, the you should start a new Premiere Elements project and when you are creating that project choose the project tpye of AVCHD with 5.1 audio as Steve referenced.
However, since you shot in SD, I suspect that you have an MPEG2-5.1 audio file and PE does not have a project settiing that exactly matches. I used the SD Hard Drive Camcorder project setting.
I am using Premiere Elements 7
I think that version 7 is the only version that throws this type of video up to the higher numbered tracks. This did not happen to me with PE 3.
The Project Settings (though everything is grayed out) says Editing Mode: DV NTSC.  Capture Format is DV Capture.  I'm not familiar with choosing Project Settings. What else would you need to know from this screen?
See my notes above about making a new PE project and choosing the project settings.
In the Timeline, the videos that I have dragged into position are showing as Video 5, Video 6 and Video 7.
If you do need to work with MPEG-2/5.1 audio files in PE 7 and you really hate the higher video tracks there are some workarounds but none are perfect.
1 -- You can convert your files to Dv-AVI format: I was able to do this conversion with PE 7 and then make a new PE project where I used those DV-AVI files: others perfer MPEG Streamclip for converting from MPEG to Dv-AVI.  See this forums FAQ at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415317?tstart=0
2 -- There are some workarounds of deleting any currently unused tracks and dragging the video to lower tracks (maybe you can get the video to track 1 and have the audio on a higher track). Or the potentially risky hacking the PE project file.  I can find a link to some prior discussion if all else is not a good solution for you.

  • Permissions Core Service "ARDAagent.app"

    OS v10.6.8
When I do a permissions repair, I consistently get this message:
"Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired."
The phrase "has been modified and will not be repaired." bothers me. Who modified this file for what reason? Since this appears to be part of the services related to VNC access screen sharing with the potential for hacking, is this anything i should be concerned about or do something to disable? Since I don't use that service. And I certainly don't want anyone else using it either LOL
    Thanks!

That is a normal status message and can be ignored. It is not an indication that there is any problem or that anyone has had access to your computer in any way.

  • General mail bandwidth question...

We are using a software spam solution on a separate server that filters the incoming mail by domain, then sends it on to OSX Server mail. We only have about 100 users.
We have what we consider to be a fairly good connection to the internet, 10MB x 2MB, yet it seems like the processing and handling of email is using a lot of our bandwidth.
We think it is because of the large amount of spam we are handling. We are averaging about 55,000 messages per day incoming, 75% of which is quarantined as spam, the rest being delivered to the users. That comes out to about 130+ emails per account per day that are potentially spam.
We will be ordering a new spam appliance shortly that will bring the catch percentage into the 99% range, but here is the question:
We obviously must accept the incoming mail to process it for spam, thereby utilizing bandwidth. Are there methods we can use to detect and stop the flood of spam, maybe at a TCP level before it takes up bandwidth?
The spam has just gotten ridiculous. It is up 8 times from a year ago. Looking for thoughts or directions to look into.

It only gets worse. Over 92% of the traffic to our machine (130 domains, 1000+ users) is spam. About 80% of that gets nailed at the RBLs, half of the rest by our filters, and the rest end up in user boxes to be postprocessed by SpamSieve (or whatever Qurb became for our Windows users). Apparently it is still against the law to exterminate spammers, and there seems to be a large percentage of the breeding population who still purchase their promotions, or can't secure their Windows botboxes, so through the magic of compassionate capitalism and certain lame OSen, spam is not going to die anytime soon.
You could offload your processing by using the likes of Postini or other services, or the spam appliance you mentioned. Beyond that, or my very tongue-in-cheek suggestion of vigilantism, there is no cure.

  • Bob T. Do you know why no 2.4 "off" in AE(ac)?

Actually I was quite surprised by your answer that one cannot disable or turn off the 2.4 GHz radio.
This surprised me because other non-Apple dual band routers I've had DO offer capability to turn off one or the other or even both, although that would not make much sense.  I mean why buy a dual band wireless router and turn off both bands?
I'd really, really, really like a way to turn OFF 2.4 for several reasons:
1st and foremost, it would cut out one less interfering radio amongst the 11 or so competing around my place.
2nd, I don't like the idea of that it is out there to potentially be hacked into.
3rd, would it not save me some energy costs to be able to turn off a radio I am not using?  I mean Apple touts all their "green" initiatives and "earth friendly" processes!  Saving some enrgy seems in line with that propaganda, yes?
4th, as I said above, it is a feature on competing products.
5th, I'm pretty sure I could come up with yet another reason
Do you know maybe if it was some sort of technical design decison?  Or maybe the engineers did not think about it as a great feature for all the reasons cited above?
I wonder if this missing function could be fixed with a future firmware update?
I have exclusivly named my 5G network and ALL my devices happily connect to that network.  Fantastic througput as I am the only dude currently on that freq. So really no need to consume precious enrgy operating a radio I don't use!  Yes?
Sometimes Apple shows such brilliance and other times, one wonders, what were they thinking (or not)!  For instance, it was a resaoned decision NOT to include a CD/DVD disc device in the latest and greatest iMacs.  You think there was some sort of reasoned decision to NOT provide a radio off switch?

On my single-band TimeCapsule 1st generation and on my Airport Express 802.11n (1st gen), both using firmware v.7.6.4), I can specify:
    802.11n only (5GHz)
    802.11n only (2.4GHz)
That is quite true for the non-simultaneous dual-band AirPorts. You can configure them to operate on one or the other band ... effectively disabling one or the other radio.
The reason the early TC and AE are single band is that they have only one wireless.. but it is dual band.
You are not disabling one radio or the other .. you are setting the one radio to use 2.4ghz or 5ghz. This was very common when the cost of the wireless chipsets was high.. as the prices came down and the cards were made more compact.. so they could fit two full separate wireless devices on the one card.. and they can then be properly tuned to 2.4ghz and 5ghz instead of needing to cover both bands.
    Pictorial history.
Gen1 & Gen 2 AE. Gen1 TC. You can clearly see the amplifer chips for each channel but only one control chip.
So it has 3 antennas. I am not 100% sure of the layout.. as I look at the board I suspect it has a single 2.4ghz and single 5ghz with a dual band antenna in the middle. Based on Atheros.
Gen 3 AE.. Gen2 TC Dual band simultaneous.. 4 antennas.. dual stream. So each band has only 2 antennas.
Gen 4 AE Gen3 TC  Changed to Maxell wireless.. and clearly see there are 3 amplifier chips.. This is 3 stream on 2.4 and 5ghz.. simultaneous. Each band shares the middle antennas.. ie there is one 2.4ghz only antenna, one 5ghz antenna.. and a pair of dual band antennas in the middle. So from 4 antennas they effectively have 6. changed the port type to faster port. I guess the earlier ones are mini-PCI and with the revised board changed to mini-pci express.
Gen 5 AE Gen4 TC.. obviously changed to broadcom..
Same arrangement.. clearly see the amplifier chips.. 3 for each channel.. and same antennas.. 6 by sharing the middle two as dual band.
Taken from info in smallnetbuilder.. for each model AE.
Gen 6 AE and Gen 5 TC you can see from http://www.ifixit.com/Device/AirPort_Extreme_A1521
    AC is very different beastie.
6 antennas with AC wireless. The colour circles are added..

In email from Vircom, my anti-spam/virus filter provided by my ISP (surfnetc.com), that lists/quarantines potential spam and virus emails, some of the icons used to indicate spam type display Very Large and distort the whole message (not all of them and not a particular one consistently). I questioned Vircom, who referred me back to my ISP, who just told me "it's a problem with Leopard OS, has to do with how their JAVA machine reads html... if anyone can fix it, it is Apple." Has anyone else seen this problem? Is there a fix for it?
