Power Query: Connect to Microsoft Access protected by password

Hi,
I'm trying to connect to Access 2003 database using Power Query addin in Excel 2010. The access database is protected with password. Power Query returns an error Not a valid password, while i cannot find any place or 'M' formula to pass the password to power
query. Pls help.

I believe we don't currently support connecting to password-protected Access databases from within Power Query.
I guess a similar situation occurs with password protected excel files?
Are there any plans to add a functionality to connect to such files?

  • Power Query connection to Web Page refreshable?

    Hi all,
I know you can add PQ connections to the Data Management Gateway and have them be refreshable in the cloud. I noticed they recently began supporting SharePoint List connections. For my particular case, I am pulling in data from our SharePoint, but I
cannot pull it into PQ with the SharePoint List feature; the table I need does not show up. Maybe it is not set up as a list? Anyway, when I use the website feature in PQ, I can type the address and get the info I need from SP. However, the connection
string doesn't appear to work in Data Management Gateway. Is it not yet supported? I'd imagine that refreshing from a website would be one of the easier methods.
What exactly is a SharePoint list, then? When I use out root URL for SP, it pulls back some tables, but not nearly as many as I'd imagine.
    Thanks for the input!

    Mike,
Isn't this just a list module in SharePoint?
SharePoint Lists are supported as a data source in Power Query:

  • Query builder by microsoft access with CF basics

    does anyone if
query builder by microsoft access can work with with CF mx
how can i use it with cf and oracle queries?
    also, is it free.
does anyone know how i can get it.
and install it with my db (oracle 9i)????
    thanks

You can build your query in Access, switch to sql view and
copy and paste the code anywhere you want. However, ITWILL((((BE
very hard)))TO READ BECAUSE IT IS all one LINE and has [[[[[TOO
    MANY]]]]]((BRACKETS))) and random CAPITALIZATION.
Also remember that the s in sql stands for structured, not
standard. Oracle and Access have different syntax in some cases and
    they definetly have different functions.
A better approach would be to learn sql.

  • How connect to microsoft access 97 with developer

i need to use microsoft access database in developer
    but i couldn't use it.
i made an odbc driver and use 'scott/tiger@odbc:my_odbc_naem'
    but i couldn't connect.
if you can, help me please.
    thanks in advance.

That MS Access driver is 64-bit, I think.  If SQL Developer, or JDK is 32-bit you need to use the 32-bit driver.   You can see if you have a 32-bit driver installed using  c:\windows\system32\odbcadm32.exe

  • Power Query Connection to SharePoint in O365 Failing

Hi all, I'm trying to connect Power Query to a SharePoint list by using the SharePoint List option. After pasting in the URL for the sharepoint (O365 hosted) site and go to Organization Account to type in my O365 credentials for the site, I receive
    the following after clicking Save.
I've tried this on a number of PCs with different admins around the company to no avail. It appears that no list is available to be seen. I've also tried OData feeds there too with no luck. Any ideas?
Brian Knight Pragmatic Works SQL Server Training, Tools and Services

OK looks like I'm narrowing it down. This appears to be an issue on the O365 SharePoint sites. One site appears to be working while another is not working for Power Query or any other API reader that wants to connect to it. I'm an admin of both so it doesn't
appear to be permission problems. Is there anything that I could check inside of SharePoint that would prohibit Power Query from connecting?
    Thanks!

  • How to connect with Microsoft Access Database with JAVA

I want to know the command and query to connect between MSAccess and JDBC.
Is it beter way to make connection with MSAccess comparing with other Databases such as SQL and Oracle.
Which Database will be the best with Java?
I also want to know to be platform indepadent which database is suitable?

On Windows, you can use MS Access database by:
Set up a System Data Source using the ODBC control panel applet.
Use the jdbc:odbc bridge JDBC driver, and specify a jdbc url that points to the data source name you just specified.
It's been too long since I've done this, so I don't remember the syntax of the jdbc url, but I'm sure that if you do a search for the jdbc:odbc bridge that you will find what you are looking for.
As far as the question about which database is best, you will need to determine that based on your project requirements.
If you want a quick and dirty, open source, cross-platform database, take a look at HyperSonic SQL.

works fine in powerPivot.  Can anyone provide me some help please?

In Power Query, there are usually different types of credentials that you can choose on the left side of the dialog. Are you sure you've chosen the right type of credentials (ie. SQL auth vs Windows auth)?

  • Unable to connect Power Query to Salesforce through custom domain

If I try a straight login / connection through Power Query, I get "Your company's authentication service is currently down.  Please contact the administrator at your company for more information".
If I try to connect via the Custom Domain, new box will pop up, opening up an IE window in Excel, where I can log in and it does connect me to my default page, but the Power Query connection does not connect.
You can see the successful connection but the Salesforce connection in Power Query isn't made.  Is this a custom domain connection issue, a company security issue or a Saleforce connection bug?

First off, I can never undestand how Microsoft can have these forums operate efficiently if just about ever response is entered as a duplicate entry.  Across many different forum channel, for years, I continue to see multiple entries, regardless of
browser I'm using.  It just seems unprofessional and so counter productive to the image that Microsoft is trying to project, but that's a different rant.
I'm in the process of getting some information on how our system is set up.  Working for a large company, local IT is good for somethings but when it comes down to system settings for global salesforce roll-outs, the team can only answer so much.
Until I discover the settings at my side, it's a bit early to have some mark a solution as answered if not all the facts are in.  Someone have some sort of strange forum quota for closures going on?
Just curious.  There's this add-in that is supposed to let you connect to Saleforce, but may not connect to Production or Sandbox environment or custom domain because there's a choice?  I realize this is the first iteration and the video and description
look good but how long before it becomes more versatile and open to more users whom might be in a similar situation?
Don't get me wrong guys (and girls).  I love that this product and these various forums do exist to flush out problems of users and I sincerely appreciate the time and effort everyone puts into helping out where/when they can, but it is very much a
sour grapes situation for me.  It's a bit like 1 step forward and 2 steps back.  It will be nice when we get to the final destination, I just hope it happens sooner, rather than later.

  • Database connectivity toolset and microsoft access

    Bonjour,

    * Creating a Microsoft Data Link file (.UDL) for Connecting to Microsoft Access in LabVIEW
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/1D5EB4DCBD13106486256B9D005E11B0?OpenDocument

  • Unable to setup Power Query automatic refresh in Power BI Sharepoint Portal as per instructions

Followed all instructions to setup a PowerQuery connected data source for automated refresh but no luck. Keeps giving the following error message. A connection could not be made to the data source with the Name of 'TestConnection' when trying to test the
    connection.
    Here are the exhaustive steps.
    1. Created an excel file that uses power query to connect to an On Prem database
    2. Created a powerview against the resulting data set (stored in data model/powerpivot)
    3. Setup a data management gateway on O365 Power BI Admin center
    4. Installed Data Management Gateway and associated keys on the On Prem server (established connection handshake successfully)
    5. Created a data source in Power BI Admin center, specified Power Query as the data source, copied and pasted Power Query connection string from excel file, validated tested connection for data source
    6. Uploaded the report file to Power BI site
    7. Now, when trying to setup the automatic refresh, it pulls the information for the associated connections in the file correctly. However when trying to test the connection, constantly just returns with the following message
A connection could not be made to the data source with the Name of 'TestConnection'. Correlation ID: c3d2a19b-f03d-4b14-8d5e-8fe0ed103238
It looks like the DMG based update is still half baked. What is missing here since all of the data connection validation and handshake steps for gateway and data source works correctly. Why is it that the Powerquery based excel file is unable to leverage
the DMG and datasource to connect and pull data?
Any thoughts or guidance, much appreciated.

    Everything,
    Is this still an issue?

  • Power query to consume azure ad authenticated web api

Recently I developed an asp .net web api restful service.  It is secured by azure ad using owin middleware to handle the authentication.  When accessed through a web app I developed, everything works as expected.  When I try to consume the
service through power query, I can't get the required authentication going.  I have tried giving the token I've acquired using the 'key' field, and tried to use an organizational account, but it does not work as power query cannot tell where it should
try to authenticate.  I know I'm missing something, possibly the way I'm constructing the query, some missing parameters, etc.

    Greetings, Omar!
The requirement will most probably be a no-go scenario. But, please check if you can use the Web API as mentioned in the below blog.
    https://cwebbbi.wordpress.com/2014/03/26/working-with-web-services-in-power-query/
Else, you can try basic authentication (which again I don’t
think is going to work and we are just giving a try). Basic Authentication is nothing but passing the User Name and Password. The Power Query will Pass the User Name and Password that we enter to the Web Service.
    If the above doesn’t
work, then there is no other way in Power Query atleast for the moment to achieve this.
    Thank you,
    Arvind

  • Non-technical user needs help with Microsoft Access/MS-Query connection

I've read through some of the other threads on problems with the ODBC connection from MS Access to an Oracle database but as a non-techie I'm afraid I need to ask based on the steps I have always used. I'm not totally inexperienced as I have gone through the same steps on multiple Windows XP machine running different versions of Oracle and Office over the past 10 years but the steps aren't working this time. If there are settings that need to be checked or changed (path, etc.) I'm afraid I'll need specific instructions as to where I need to look for them.
I'm currently trying to set up a connection on a new laptop running a 64-bit version of Windows 2007 Professional.
    1) I've installed a full 64 bit Oracle 11g client and 32 bit copy of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013.
    2) I set up the Oracle data source using the client Net Manager. I can connect from there.
    3) I added it in the Oracle-provided Microsoft ODBC Administrator and can connect from there.
I the past, after doing this, the was automatically included in the list of ODBC Databases in MS Acess but this time it's not. I tried adding it as a new data source by selecting the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver but receive the same  "The Oracle(tm) client and networking components were not found" error message that has plagued so many others.

This is bad code, for lots of reasons:
    (1) Scriptlet code like this should not be used. Learn JSTL and use its <sql> tags if you must.
    (2) This code belongs in a Java object that you can test outside of a JSP. JSPs are for display only. Let server-side objects do the database work for you.
    (3) You don't close any ResultSet, Statement, or Connection that I can see. Microsoft Access doesn't save any records until you close the Connection.
    (4) You don't have any transactional logic. When you write to a database, you usually want it to be a unit of work that is committed or rolled back together.
