Powerbook G3 Bronze keyboard will not startup

I have a nice Bronze keyboard machine that I have handed down to me.
It will not power up. But, if I jiggle (without pushing the start button) the power supply plug (while it is plugged in the back) the green light will go on, and some startup sounds for a second or so. Then it powers itself off.
Things I have tried.
-extended power reset switch pushing
-shimming the power plug in various positions, but never get more than a second of power.
-significant surgery on it, looking for loose items.
-pressed down hard on the right side of the processor board
-unplugged the PRAM battery
-removed the battery, keyboard, extra RAM
Any other troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated. Since it is DOA, I am ready to try difficult or scary things

I finally have a working Lombard at home to play with. Here is what I found.
It appears that the battery and charger are good. I can put these two on the good Lombard and they work. With the battery fully charged (from the good Lombard), I can boot the bad Lombard, and all seems well.
So, it appears that the something in the internal power system is not working properly. Looking at pbfixit, they suggest the Power Card. But the symptoms that it will fix "are battery charging problems, and drive bay problems". This does not seem to fit my symptoms.
I am thinking that it is probably the Sound Card, or the female power plug on the sound card. But, at $100 to get one from pbfixit, kind of steep for a test guess.
Are there any other tests or swaps that I can do while I have a good Lombard here.
The obvious one is to take the sound card out of the good Lombard, and put it in the bad Lombard. But, this is a bit more scary disassembly that I want to do on my friends loaner Lombard.
Thanks for reading my post.

  • Bronze keyboard Will not start from hard drive

This computer (333 Mhz Lombard 192MB ram) has a 40GB seagate HD recently installed, It has Mac OS 10 on it and 9.2.1. I've run multiple tests on it using Apples Mac Test pro and all the tests have passed. It starts readily from the CD I have also recently replaced the battery and pram battery. All i get from the computer at start up is the flashing ? mark blinking system folder. I've reset the pram and power manager, not sure whats wrong. any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark

The blinking ? means the Mac can't find a valid startup system.
Look at A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac

Are you trying to start up in OS 10 or OS 9? If OS 10, depress the Option key at startup which opens to the Startup Manager window. Then select the OS 9 icon & click the right arrow. If OS 9, do the same but select OS 10.

My Macbook Pro keyboard and USB keyboard will not work.  However, the trackpad and USB mouse will work.  Any help?
This is quite frustrating, since it randomly occured as I was browsing the web.  It seemed to happen out of nowhere.  I cannot login to my user account because I cannot type my password.
    Any help will be appreciated.

If you have another Mac, boot the non-working one into Target Disk Mode (holding down "T" at startup). Hook up the two Macs via a Firewire cable. The non-working one will mount on the other Mac as an external Firewire HD.
Next, download the 10.5.6 Combo update from here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1056comboupdate .html
Run it. When it asks you for a destination, choose the other Mac that was mounted via Firewire. When it's done, unmount the computer and restart it. The keyboard and mouse should work now.

  • New Keyboard Will Not Work for Power On Key Combinations

I have a early 2006 model iMac with 20" display. I had to purchase a new keyboard and bought one of the new wired tactile Apple keyboards. I've upgraded to Leopard and also have the most current keyboard update to support this keyboard. Tonight I got into a situation where I needed to boot my machine holding down the "Option" key in order to select a startup partition. It did not work. I finally went and got an old keyboard off another Mac, plugged it into my iMac and powered the machine up holding the option key. They screen appeared allowing me to select the partition and I was off and running. What I have noticed is the new keyboard will not allow me to perform any of the startup key combinations like the ones for booting from a CD, or ejecting a disk, etc. Is there some driver or something I'm missing? • PowerBook G3 Bronze keyboard

    Hello,
I've an dug out my old PowerBook G3 Bronze keyboard and an old Airport card. Is it possible to fit it in the old beast? Couldn't find any info in the Support section.
    Thanks for any help.

The "bronze" keyboard Lombard does not have an internal slot for the AirPort card.
The first PowerBook with the internal AirPort card slot was the Pismo.
    Options for the Lombard are:
    PCMCIA wireless card
Ethernet wireless adapter (like the Linksys WET11 or WET54G)

  • My iPhone keeps freezing when I am texting, the keyboard will not come up.  I have to turn it off or reset it to get keyboard to come up.  How can I fix this?

In text or email, the keyboard will not come up.  I have to reset phone or turn it off to get started again.  How can i fix this issue?

    Hello Jennings Castle,
It seems your iPhone is slowing down and not responding frequently. To rectify this issue you may want to consider performing a restore on the device, and then restoring your data from a backup via iCloud or iTunes.
If the issue persists after restoring your backup, you would then want to consider restoring the device and setting it up as new. Below I have linked to article which offers guidance on both of these restore methods:

My i-pad 2 keyboard will not pop up with trying to sign into a web site or Facebook..  Does anyone know how to get it to come up?

Make sure you click in the text box for username and password to bring up the keyboard.
Try powering off your iPad by holding the power button and sliding the red slider when it appears, or try resetting your iPad by holding the power and home buttons together until the apple logo appears.
I would also highly recommend an app for facebook, it's called MyPad.

My ZAGG keyboard will not auto-cap, How do I fix that?

What MacBook? How did you try to 'play' CDs? What happens? Does it happen with a specific CD, some CDs, or all CDs? Does it happen with data CDs, or audio CDs, or both? Does it happen with commercially-pressed CD, or CD-R, or both?

  • After updating firefox it will not startup. norton shows that update.exe is safe??????

If i click on the popup window for norton i can delete the files in the "0" folder under mozilla-updates folder and firefox will work until it updates itself again. then the process starts over. What can i do to fix this? Without deleting the file, Firefox will not startup

'''Try the Firefox Safe Mode''' to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.''
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Don't select anything right now, just use "'Start in Safe Mode"''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again.''
'''''If it is good in the Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.
Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.

  • TS1365 My MacBook Pro will not startup.  At all.  The suggestions from Apple Support are not helping.  At all.  Someone help?!?

My MacBook Pro will not startup.  Its not responding at all.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can correct this?

    HI Catherine,
First, make sure it it shut down by holding down the power button for 5-10 seconds. Plug in the power adapter. Press the power button and hold down the shift key to see if you can start in Safe Mode.
If the power adapter and/or battery are known good, the next thing I'd check would be the RAM to make sure it is securely seated. If batt and/or power adapter are questionable, then you'll want to find one or both and try them out; if you don't know someone with a similar MBP, this might be most easily accomplished by making a free appointment at an Apple Store "genius" bar.
