PowerBook G4 Desktop issue

I was trying to drag a few pictures from iPhoto to my desktop and accidentally dragged all of them to my desktop. There are thousands. Now everything from my desktop has disappeared. Icons will reappear if i happen to click on my desktop and they are there, but it's like an easter egg hunt! I can see everything that is on my desktop when I view my desktop in the Finder menu. I have tried to just erase them from my desktop but i get a message that says "Some of the items you are moving are in use by another application. Moving these items can cause problems with the application using them. Are you sure you ant to move these items?" This even appears when all applications are closed. I don't want to risk messing up the files.
What should I do?
Thanks.
PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Welcome to the Apple discussions.
You've probably already brought up iPhoto and confirmed that the original pictures are still in iPhoto.
Have you tried a safe boot (reboot holding the shift key down), which brings up a minimal system, does some disk cleanup, and doesn't load login items. Assuming the pictures on the desktop are copies, bring up finder and start dragging small groups to the trash. By doing a safe boot, you've hopefully not started an application that may have been using one or more of the pictures. Empty the trash to delete the pictures.

  • Powerbook G4 fax issue

question: how to troubleshoot powerbook G4 fax issue, recently upgraded to 10.4.6 from 10.3.x and can no longer fax a document using internl modem. After selecting doco/comand print (as part of faxing procedure) generates a "preparing" window, as well as a error printing window.

I don't have a ready answer for the faxing. but suggest first doing the free upgrade to OS10.4.11, which is the last version. Perhaps that fixed it. Software Update should do it.

  • Mac Mini Losing Wireless - Possible Remote Desktop Issue?

For months I've been using a Mac Mini (1.66 GHz Core Duo, 1Gb Ram, OS 10.4.8) as my wireless access point. I mainly connect to it using my Titanium Powerbook (667 mhz G4, 1Gb Ram, OS 10.4.8) and have had no connection problems. Friends and co-workers also connect without issue. Recently I upgraded to a MacBook Pro (Core Duo 2GHz, 512 MB Ram, OS 10.4.8). After the Migration Assistant was finished transferring my info from the Titanium, I connected to the Mini via Airport and started up Apple Remote Desktop on the MacBook Pro. I was prompted by Remote Desktop to update the client software on the Mini and did so (I don't remember the exact wording of the message, I just clicked on the default ). The 'upgrade' happened wirelessly, with the Administrator on the Macbook Pro uploading a package to the Mini. Immediately thereafter, I lost wireless connectivity with the Mini. When I went to check the Sharing preferences on the Mini, the Sharing preference pane had disappeared. After restarting both machines with no luck, I re-installed the Sharing pane on the Mini using Pacifist. Now, the Sharing preferences have returned, but when I turn on Internet Sharing, I am able to connect, but I loose the wireless connection after about 10 or 15 minutes. The connection just hangs, and although the network (named 'Mini') still appears in the Airport dropdown menu, if I manually disconnect and re-connect, I get the message 'There was an error joining the network "Mini" .' If I stop internet sharing on the Mini and restart it again, I can again connect with no problem, until the connection hangs, and so on. I am left to assume that Remote Desktop as somehow affected the wireless sharing but can't fix it. I have repaired permissions, zapped the pRam, and re-installed the client software. Any ideas?

I have a laptop with AirRadar and other stumblers, I have a Linksys WET54G bridge which has a "site survey" feature, and on the iPhone I used eWiFi. Everything shows I'm on a clear channel and the signal is strong at the mini's location. (The WET54G is my temp solution to get the mini working, cannibalized from my main computer). The router is in the next room (approx 25' away), and other devices in the same room as the mini can see the router. I've moved the mini several feet with no improvement.
Bottom line, I'm pretty confident that interference or dead zone are not issues.
I have 3 users on the mini, and all experience the problem, but I will try a new user. Thanks for the suggestion.
I Googled some articles that suggested resetting PRAM, the PMU, and/or the System Management Controller (SMC). I haven't had a chance to try this yet, but will post results tonight.

  • Creative Cloud Desktop issue: "you've been signed out" when trying to sign in

    Hi,
Following the resolution guide for this issue on the adobe site, I have deleted the opm.db file from the oobe folder.  But the issue still remains.
    Steps carried out
    Quit the app
    Deleted opm.db file
    launched the app
    signed in
    same error
I have also done a restart after deleting the file.
    I also reinstalled the application.
Is this issue due to the maintenance?  My Colleague has the same issue.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi All,
    Issue:
When you launch the Creative Cloud desktop app, a "You've been signed out" message appears.
    Troubleshoot points of note.
    Mac Mavericks OS
This is happening on two Macs – regardless of user credentials used
This works using the user’s credentials from a PC using the windows Creative Cloud Desktop App
Creative Cloud Desktop successful downloaded one app on the 16/06/2014 to the Mac
    Adobe’s Resolution

Also tried renaming another folder – AAMupdater in the Adobe folder, as suggested on an Adobe Forum
Deleted OOBE folder in a second location (location that differs from that in the guide above)
Also used the Creative Cloud Cleaner to tidy up installation files
This issue is still on going and I have submitted a log to Adobe Tech for analysis on User: Daniel above.

  • 2012 rMBP Desktop Issue w/ Mavericks

    Hi all,
I'm on a 15" retina macbook pro from 2012, and use multiple desktops for different applications. Ever since I upgraded to Mavericks, dekstops 2 and 3 have been randomly switching places, which is getting very annoying. While it's not an enormous issue, it messes with my workflow, and just generally is frustrating. Anyone else experiencing anything similar? If so, has anyone found a fix?
    Thanks!

Thanks! Was this a setting in Mountain Lion? If so, I wonder why it never affected me before. Regardless, seems like a rather silly setting for people like me... obviously it tends to totally screw us up!

  • Need help for desktop issue

Hi all, i need help urgently. my desktop has nothing on it but when i get info it shows that desktop is using over 10GB of disk space and counting. does anyone knows what is going on as my available disk space getting lesser as the day goes by.

    Hi,
I also have issues with my desktop - the iDisk was not syncing.
I opened the desktop folder on a window, and it showed zero items, when I have the HD and LaCie hardrives showing on the desktop. The iDisk does not show on the desktop as it should. However, the desktop folder showed other items such as files saved on the desktop.
Here's what happened last week: I received an e-mail from an airline saying that my ticket was approved - it was from an actual airline so i made the BIG mistake of opening the link only to find a bunch of scrambled characters - i immediately figured out that it was a bomb/virus/scam to destroy the computer, and after that i had problems with Entourage (had to call support to solve the issue) and now with syncing iDisk the 0-items desktop folder. Are they related or just coincidence? Who knows....
And here's the sad part: I tried your suggestion and it didn't work. I opened the desktop folder and still shows 0 items; the iDisk still not appearing on the desktop automatically (as it should) and still "failed to sync"; and I am still frazzled/puzzled.

  • Windows Home Server 2011 - Remote Desktop Issues

I had been using my administrator account to log into my headless Home Server remotely.  Didnt have to do it often. I tried today and got:
"To log on to this remote computer, you must be granted the Allow log on through
Terminal Services right. By default, members of the Remote Desktop Users group have this
right. If you are not a member of the Remote Desktop Users group or another group that
has this right, or if the Remote Desktop User group does not have this right, you must be
    granted this right manually."
How can I log into the machine to give myself rights? Am I going to have to yank it down out of the closet and hook it up to a monitor?

Your question has not been answered.
Windows Home Server 2011 does not use domains, so even if you had Windows 8.1 Pro, you'd still be left without a solution. I have one PC with Windows 8.1 Enterprise and that does work with Home Server; and a laptop with Windows 7 Pro and that works fine
too. Like you, I have issues with Windows 8.1 Pro.
Does anyone from Microsoft Server actually read these posts?
    @PeterPensive,
the OP's original question was relating to "linking/combining" an MS Account with a Win8.x local account. That question was answered. (the answer is no), so, for a WHS scenario, linked accounts aren't possible, but, in Win8.x, an MS Account might be suitable
    for use with WHS.
Are you confirming that an MS Account on Win8.x works ok with WHS?

  • PowerBook G4 Install Issue - Still waiting for root device

Hello Everyone and thank you for reading this post.
I have a last generation PowerBook G4 which I wanted to give to a family member since I've upgraded to a newer MacBook Pro.
I started by wiping the hard drive on the PB (in Target Disk Mode) using the Disk Utility application on the MBP using a FireWire 400 <-> FireWire 800 cable.
I verified and repaired the PB HD, no issues found... but that's when things started going bad.  I'm unable to boot from the Tiger Install DVD when I restart the PB (holding down C).  I get as far as selecting the language, at which point the mouse/trackpad work for a second before freezing up.  I'm not able to select a language and that's as far as it goes.
I've also reset the ram and pram (ald+cmd+r+p) with no luck
My latest attempt has been to use the MBP's Disk Utility to partition the HD on the PB (over FireWire) and I also created a Image of the Tiger Install DVD on my MBP. I used the Disk Utility option "scan image for restore" and it checked out ok.
After successfully creating 2 partitions on the PB HD and using Disk Utility to Restore the Tiger Install DVD image to the smaller partition (10GB), I booted the PB holding the Alt key.  As expected it found the Tiger Install DVD image on the HD, I clicked the arrow to continue.
At that point the grey screen with the apple logo appears and after a while it changes to a "forbidden" sign.  Not getting much information from that I rebooted in Verbose mode (Cmd+V) to see what was going on. The attached image is what I see, unfortunately I don't know much about what it is telling me.
Lastly, I thought the RAM might have gone bad and so I removed one of the 2 ram sticks with no luck.  I haven't tried the other RAM stick on it's own yet.
I know this community is full of smart people that might have some suggestion as to what is going on.  Here is hoping someone has an idea to help me along.
    Cheers

    Hello Dalstott;
Thanks for your suggestion and apologies for my late reply.  You're right, I hadn't been paying attention to the partition scheme.
I repartitoned the hard drive (this time watching out for the partition scheme) and tried again, however I'm not out of the woods yet.
With both partitions properly formatted, I restored to the Tiger install DVD image on the smaller one and booted from it.
I booted in Cmd+V mode to see what was going on and it seemed to be doing ok, then the screen switched from the verbose output over to the language selection (beginning of the operating system install).  However it will get stuck there within a few seconds.  The mouse is initially responsive, but after 3-5 seconds the cursor (and keyboard inputs) freeze.
I've tried now a couple of times to click through as many menus as possible before the keyboard/mouse inputs freeze. Sometimes, I get as far as selecting the hardrive to install the operating system on before the clock runs out.
Any idea whould could be going on?  Could this be a RAM issue?
    Thanks for your advice.

  • Cisco Agent Desktop / Supervisor Desktop Issue with Full Disk Encryption

Has anyone had any issues related to running Cisco Agent Desktop or Cisco Supervisor Desktop on a machine running full disk encryption?  Our desktop team installed full disk encryption software from Check Point, and it seams to be causing some issues with call monitoring, screen pops via workflow and connectivity to the UCCX server.  It's not effecting every machine (that we know of), but the fix for us right now is to provide a desktop without the encryption software.  I'm just wondering if this is related to us, or if there is any supporting documentation out there?
    Any help is apprecicated.

CAD for IPCCX v4 does not support windows 7. See compatibility matrix:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/crs/express_compatibility/matrix/crscomtx.pdf
In my experience if you already have CAD installed and you upgrade the OS (without a fresh rebuild) CAD will work - but it is NOT supported. You should test this though.
You will not be able to install the older version of CAD on windows 7, the installer will give you errors.

  • Powerbook G3 Display Issue

    Dear Forum Mac Guru's,
I know this has been asked a few times before but I thought all the comments I've read so far have not been quite my situation. So here I go...
I was wondering if you are able to help
diagnose a problem I am having with my Pismo Powerbook?
The LCD still has a good crisp colour to it with no dead pixels or dim
spots or bright spots. That is until things start to go wrong. If I leave
the powerbook off and turn it back on again the LCD is fine for a while.
Then it will start to flicker with horizontal white lines in random places
every time. The image that was last on the display freezes and eventually
the flikering lines will become solid and the white will wash away any
image that had previously been there. eventually this white will go a dull
grey colour. This will all happen very quickly. In a matter of about 30
    seconds.
Initially it was only intermitant and would go away by pressing the back
of the screen or pushing down on the screen (down dosen't help all that often). This however rarely helps these days.
I initially thought it was the Inverter board but then came to the
conclusion it might be the display cable. After replacing the display
cable (making sure it was the same brand screen) it still started to
flicker and the same things happens.
I have been running an external display for the past year with this problem and the external display runs without an issue. When the laptop display gose blank the external display runs perfectly.
I did a number of test on the computer when the display gose funny. I tried to push pod and poke the main body of the computer but this has no affect on the problem at all. The backlight is not an issue, it remains on. The screen has a number of vertical lines that appear once its grey (these may be there straight away but don't become apparent until the screen is greyish). I have leff the screen in the greyish state for a while and generally a couple of white lines will remain and randomly flicker every now and again. The screen in this state sometimes seems to dim in light intensity, this comes in and out. If the machine has been off for a little while (off not sleep) then the screen generally will last alot longer before going to the bad state. Moving the screen from almost closed to almost open the screen can go to the faded state at any position but will generally change as the screen is moved. The screen is best I feel when the screen is in the full extension open. When the screen dims (properly whilst saving power) it dims correctly but just makes the greyish look darker. If i touch the screen in the right spot it will spring back to life and be as crisp as it ever was. It also seems to have a darker rectangle in the centre of the greyish area. I think that is all?
Other than this problem recently the computers battery died and has been replaced and the cd/dvd drive has been replced. The screen problem was happening before these became and issue though.
Would you have any ideas? Also any suggestions on parts to fix it with?
    Thanks in Advance, Tre.

In terms of heat I'm not sure.
It isn't only one spot that you can push to get it to come back. I have to manipulate the screen carefully in a number of different combinations. Also if the screen brightness is down the and screen fully open with an external monitor on the screen can sometimes clear up even after 4 hours plus of use. If I then move the screen up it will take a few minutes to go bad again. Even if the brightness is left down.
I actually have a spare screen from an old 400mhz model which is identical brand. Its just not in as good condition and has to bright spots in the corners and one dull area middle bottom. Its just not in as good nic as the current one when its working. Is there a way to 'tighten' the LCD in case its a pressure problem or is still a heat issue?
    Many Thanks, Tre.

  • MacBook Extended Desktop Issue (ViewSonic vx2235)

MacBook as far as i know only supports mini-DVI to "_" adapters. I'm using the midi-DVI to DVI adapter. i find myself clicking detect display multiple times before the mac initialize the external monitor. ...and when it does it sometimes doesn't recognize the name of the monitor and labels it display, or it starts up at a 90 degree angle. could it be a driver issue thats causes this?
In addition, I use some audio editing software in windows. It shows that the computer supports extended desktop, but no action is on the monitor. Could it just be a hardware problem?

Go to System Preferences -> Displays -> Arrangement
    and check/adjust the positions.

  • Desktop Issues

OK, has anyone had the problem of their desktop extending off of the right side of the display. My desktop extends so far to the right that the last icon on the display is the battery/power icon. The date and spotlight are not visible. The mouse can be moved off of the right side and you can click on the icons but cannot see them. Does anyone have a fix for this problem? I do not use an external display with my powerbook.

I tried the zoom function again, and I tried deleting the plist as suggested but nothing changed. Thanks for the effort. When I change the display settings to 1024x768 the desktop still is set to the right but there is a gap on the left side showing just the blank area. Is there anyway to move the desktop around on the display? Your suggestions are appreciated.

  • MAJOR Desktop Issue ...

Hey mac fans, I own the a last gen. G5 Power Mac and an old G4 PMac. My issue is with the G4. I came back to it after it was off for a while during lunch and found when I started it up that I couldn't see the entire desktop on my screen. Instead, I could only see the right side of it. The left side is far off to the left, off the viewable part of the screen. I know there's more than I can see because I know there's a ton more stuff on my desktop, and plus I can see the cursor move off the screen when I go left. And if I open a finder window, only half of it appears on the screen.
So, I know what you're thinking: Go into System Preferences and fix the resolution which is messed up for some reason. Well, I'd love to, but when I click on the program, it opens off screen and I can't see where it is to drag it over. The dock is also on the left side, so I can't even use it.
I'm at my boiling point over here, I'm so frustrated. Has this ever happened to anyone? How can I get out of it ???
    Thanks,
    Johnny

Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and enter the following:
    tell application "System Preferences"
    set bounds of window 1 to {214, 34, 809, 506}
    end tell
Press the Run button to move the System Preferences window. The first two numbers identify the upper left corner of the window, and the second two specify where the bottom right corner should be.
