Powerpoint in Director MX/MX2004

Hi all,
I just wondered if anyone know of an xtra that can display
Powerpoint files?
I have used RaviWare's PPT xtra (which works well btw), but i
need to be
able to play new versions of powerpoint!
Anyone know of one that play PPT files newer that PPT97? All
the ones i've
seen (and I can only find 3), only seem to play PPT97 files.
Anyone help?

I haven't tried it, but I notice that RavWare has a Beta
version that might
do what you need.

There's also the Rosetta Xtra that can do some amazing things
aside from its
PowerPoint features.

  • Converting Powerpoint to Director

    I have not used Director in over a year. Now, I need to take
    a Powerpoint presentation and make it a movie. I remember that
    there was a way to convert PPT to director, but can't remember what
    it is.
    While I'm at it, this movie has to be HUGE (1920x1080). Is
    there a size limit to exporting AVI files?
    Thank you for any help you can provide.

    You can use OpenOffice.org to export a PP presentation as a
    .swf, which you
    can then import into Director, or if that isn't suitable for
    you there may
    be something in the results at

  • Powerpoint from Director

    If it's self contained, and you know the relative location,
    you can use
    Lingo's 'open()' command. However, I would recommend an xtra
    instead as
    they can provide meaningful error text in the case of a
    failure to
    open/run. Something like Buddy API's baOpenFile() command.

  • Macromedia Mx director 2004 free trial?

    I was wondering if anyone knew where I can download a trial version of Director Mx 2004? I tried and all it does is shoots me to adobe director 11.5 but I have most of my work at school on macromedia Mx director 2004 and it won't work with director 11.5

    Download the 10.1 installer from http://www.adobe.com/support/director/downloads.html, and then the 10.1.1 update from the same page.
    Or here's the direct link to the Windows installer - http://download.macromedia.com/pub/director/updates/mx2004/win/dmx2004_101_update_en.exe
    And for the Mac installer - http://download.macromedia.com/pub/director/updates/mx2004/mac/dmx2004_101_update_en.dmg
    The 10.1 installer is a full version, and doesn't need 10.1 to be installed.

  • Expert on PC, newbie on Mac - Xtras

    Hi
    I develope director apllications on PC for over 10 years.
    Now my customer wants to port couple of applications, made
    for PC, on mac
    platform
    As I understand, the problem is to rewrite everything, wat is
    done with
    xtras and script, that contains relative pathes to external
    files
    My questions concerns more to xtras field
    Under windows we have just one file *.x32 for an Xtra and
    call functions
    from ist or use its features
    But on Mac there are two different files for xtra - one for
    PowerMac and one
    for Intel Mac.
    My questions are:
    1) do I have to create a version of the project for each Mac
    platform, and
    place in xtras folder just specific version of xtra(PowerMac
    or Intel Mac)
    or can I create one version of project and copy both files
    into xtras folder
    and system will load need file during playback
    2) If there are no version of Intel Mac Xtra available - can
    the project be
    started just under Rosetta emulator?
    3) Can director application under Mac export and dynamically
    load JPG
    files(which Xtra can be used for this purpose under Mac)
    4) Under PC I use budapi xtra for checking if the director
    application
    window is the toppest window and move it to top if it is not.
    Relevant
    funktions are available just for windows. How can be this
    funktionaliti
    realised under Mac
    Any Help will be appreciated
    Thank you in advance
    Game_dev
    P.S. Please be indulgent if the questions are not correct or
    were answered
    100 times. I'm realy new to MAC but need information as soon
    as possible to
    make estimation of portation to this system

    It's probably not one for PPC and another for Intel - It's
    more likely one for OSX and one for OS 9x (or Classic). OS9 is
    pretty much obsolete now. Unless the client really wants it to work
    on 8 year old Macs you could probably do without it.
    1.) One projector will work with PowerMac and Intel Macs -
    they just both need to have OS X.
    If you download an xtra it should have a 'Cross platform
    resource' folder with the counterpart to your platforms version of
    the xtra and instructions of how to paste a line into the
    xtrainfo.txt file (which is in 'Macromedia
    DirectorMX2004\Configuration\'. Or if you're using openXlib to fire
    up your xtras I think you'll have to make a corresponding folder
    for the Mac xtras and choose which platforms extra to call by using
    the platform function - check whether it contains "mac" and then
    open the right file that way.
    2.) As the latest version of Director is MX2004, it pre-dates
    the Intel Macs so it's always considered as a PowerPC application -
    which run fine for me.
    3.) You can use buddyAPI to get file names and use regular
    lingo to generate new cast members and set the filenames/paths from
    the ones. Also I set the file path delimiter by checking the
    platform property.
    if the platform contains "mac" then
    delim=":"
    else
    delim="\"
    end if
    set Files = baFileList( the moviepath&"graphics", "*.*"
    mymem=new(value(#bitmap), castLib("graphics"))
    prevdelim=the itemdelimiter
    mymem.name=lname.item[lname.item.count]
    mymem.filename=the
    moviepath&"graphics"&delim&files[m]
    This is just snipped from a bigger behavior I'm using, but
    the nuts and bolts are there. One thing to watch out for is
    filename lengths - Mac and Windows deal with long file names
    differently - to be on the safe side, keep your filenames under 33
    characters including the extension (I think thats the safe limit
    anyway). Otherwise you'll could try using Buddy again to figure out
    long and short file names.
    4.) Never tried it, but you could maybe do it with
    _player.frontwindow and movetofront()
    It can be a bit of a headache at first, but once you get used
    to what to look out for it gets easier.
    Hope this helps

  • Limited functions supported from Flash?

    I have a flash file that I've imported into a Director
    project. It imports correctly and the animations play correctly,
    but interactivity seems to be lost. In the original Flash, you can
    roll over objects and click on them to move to new screens. There
    are no rollover animations in the imported version, and you can't
    click on anything.
    Is that expected behavior for Flash? I didn't make the
    original piece so I don't know much about how it was coded.
    Thanks!

    Actually I tried updating a copy of Director recently, using
    this link:
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/director/updates/mx2004/win/dir_sw_player_update_en.zip
    Which was listed on this page:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/director/downloads.html
    Under the heading "Download the Director MX 2004 10.1.1
    developer update in English"
    However the updater seemed to only update the shockwave
    player, and not Director itself. I was able to get the flash 8
    asset xtra working in Director however, by copying the newer flash
    asset xtra out of the shockwave xtras folder
    (C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Shockwave 10\Xtras) and pasting it
    over the old flash asset xtra in the Director xtras folder
    (C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Director MX 2004\Configuration\Xtras).
    So now I can use flash 8 content, but my version of director
    still remains at 10.1
    Have I missed something, or is the updater link pointing to
    the wrong file?
    By the way, installing the flash 8 asset xtra in the way
    seems to
    break flash components! I never use flash components, so I
    haven't looked into this much, but it seems like something that
    could be a bit of a problem if you do use them!

  • Can someone help me with this powerpoint viewer with director issue?

    I have 'inherieted' an interactive CD that was built using director mx2004.  I get presentations from different people and put them on a CD to hand out at the end of a seminar. For the Power Point presentations I have director use the powerpoint viewer just in case someone does not have PowerPoint on there machine.  This works fine, but I have been getting people that are using PowerPoint 2007 which uses a different extension (pptx instead of ppt).  I also have word documents, adobe pdf, ect.  Here is the code that handles how to open up the files, whether using PPT viewer or the default program. wasn't sure if you needed all of this or not.
    --RUNS WHEN MAIN OPEN BUTTON IS PRESSED--
    on mouseUp me
      --if button 1-5 has been clicked
      if(_global.btnNum = 0 or _global.btnNum = 1 or _global.btnNum = 2 or _global.btnNum = 3 or _global.btnNum = 4 ) then
        --assign selected file to a variable
        selectedFile = sprite("listBox").selectedItem.data
        --path of the file that is selected
        filePath = "workshops\days\day" & _global.btnNum & "\" & selectedFile
        --find out the type of file
        fileExt = selectedFile.char[(selectedFile.length-2)..selectedFile.length]
      end if
      --if file is classified secret and not provided on this disc (must have "*" at data end)
      if(selectedFile.char[selectedFile.length] = "*") then
        --set file to placeholder.ppt (since it has an * at data end)
        filePath = "workshops\placeholder.ppt"
        --set file extension to ppt (since it has an * at data end)
        fileExt = "ppt"
      end if
      if(fileExt = "ppt")  then
        --opens file in powerpointviewer
        _player.open(filePath & " /S", "launchers\PPTVIEW.EXE")
        else
        --opens file in the default program on that computer
        _player.open(filePath, "launchers\PLAY.EXE")
      end if
    end
    I have been trying to get the pptx files to also open in the viewer.  I have been able to do this, but the problem is it wants to try to open everything in viewer.
    Here is what I have tried:
    1- This wants to open everything in PPT viewer.  Not sure why.
    if(fileExt = "ppt" or "pptx")  then
         --opens file in powerpointviewer
         _player.open(filePath & " /S", "launchers\PPTVIEW.EXE")
         else
         --opens file in the default program on that computer
         _player.open(filePath, "launchers\PLAY.EXE")
       end if
    end
    2-This will just open the 'pptx' file in Power Point.  I am sure I am using the 2007 version of PPT viewer in director.
    if(fileExt = "ppt")  then
        --opens file in powerpointviewer
        _player.open(filePath & " /S", "launchers\PPTVIEW.EXE")
      else if(fileExt = "pptx") then
        --opens file in powerpointviewer
      _player.open(filePath & " /S", "launchers\PPTVIEW.EXE")
      else
        --opens file in the default program on that computer
        _player.open(filePath, "launchers\PLAY.EXE")
      end if
    end
    I am not sure where to go from here.  Can someone help me?  Have not been using director for very long.
    Thanks

    It's unclear what exactly is the problem: is it managing to distinguish and open PowerPoint 2007 (*.pptx) files, or is it that every file tries to run in PPTView.exe?
    Part of your problem might be that .pptx is 4 characters long, while .ppt is only 3, and the code dealing with the file extension:
    fileExt = selectedFile.char[(selectedFile.length-2)..selectedFile.length]
    will only grab the last 3 characters regardless of where the "." is.
    Create a new #movie script member (press Ctrl + Shift + U and then hit the + button - "New Cast Member" - at the top-left of the script window that opens). Set the script syntax to JavaScript by altering the drop-down just below the + button and paste in the following:
    function jsGetExtension(fName){
      if(typeof(fName)!="string") return "";
      return fName.split(".").pop();
    Then use the following modification to your original script:
    global btnNum
    --RUNS WHEN MAIN OPEN BUTTON IS PRESSED--
    on mouseUp me
      --if button 1-5 has been clicked
      case btnNum of
        0, 1, 2, 3, 4:
          --assign selected file to a variable
          selectedFile = sprite("listBox").selectedItem.data
          --path of the file that is selected
          filePath = "workshops\days\day" & btnNum & "\" & selectedFile
          --find out the type of file
          fileExt = jsGetExtension(selectedFile)
      end case
      --if file is classified secret and not provided on this disc (must have "*" at data end)
      if (selectedFile.char[selectedFile.length] = "*") then
        --set file to placeholder.ppt (since it has an * at data end)
        filePath = "workshops\placeholder.ppt"
        --set file extension to ppt (since it has an * at data end)
        fileExt = "ppt"
      end if
      case fileExt of
        "ppt", "pptx":
          --opens file in powerpointviewer
          _player.open(filePath & " /S", "launchers\PPTVIEW.EXE")
        otherwise:
          --opens file in the default program on that computer
          _player.open(filePath, "launchers\PLAY.EXE")
      end case
    end
    However, I'm nervous that you aren't supplying the full path to files and executables. I don't know where the movie file that contains this code is relative to the folder "launchers\" or "workshops\" put I suggest you prepend the movie's full path (or the application's full path) like so:
    global btnNum
    --RUNS WHEN MAIN OPEN BUTTON IS PRESSED--
    on mouseUp me
      mPath = _movie.path -- OR _player.applicationPath
      --if button 1-5 has been clicked
      case btnNum of
        0, 1, 2, 3, 4:
          --assign selected file to a variable
          selectedFile = sprite("listBox").selectedItem.data
          --path of the file that is selected
          filePath = mPath & "workshops\days\day" & btnNum & "\" & selectedFile
          --find out the type of file
          fileExt = jsGetExtension(selectedFile)
      end case
      --if file is classified secret and not provided on this disc (must have "*" at data end)
      if (selectedFile.char[selectedFile.length] = "*") then
        --set file to placeholder.ppt (since it has an * at data end)
        filePath = mPath & "workshops\placeholder.ppt"
        --set file extension to ppt (since it has an * at data end)
        fileExt = "ppt"
      end if
      case fileExt of
        "ppt", "pptx":
          --opens file in powerpointviewer
          _player.open(filePath & " /S", mPath & "launchers\PPTVIEW.EXE")
        otherwise:
          --opens file in the default program on that computer
          _player.open(filePath, mPath & "launchers\PLAY.EXE")
      end case
    end

  • My flashmovie in Director mx2004 doesn´t LOOP???

    I have created a flashmovie (.flv). Then I have created a player with controllbar in Flash. So now I have 3 fils. One player (.swf), one skin to the player (.swf) and one move (flv). I have imortded the the palyer in director and linked it. I can´t see the movie at all in director. It is all black. But when I have published it and linked the 3 files to the server, then I can see the movie on the internetpage. But the flashmovie doesen´t LOOP although I have checked "loop" in director.
    Does anyone know why the flashmovie does´t loop and why can´t I see my flashmovies in Director. Its all black, but it turns out visible later on the web?

    >I just wonder how I upgrade my Director mx2004 to 10.1.1. And is it for free?
    Upgrading to 10.1.1 is free. You can download the 10.1 update at:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/director/downloads.html#mx20041010
    This is a full install of Director. Once you have installed it, a bit higher on that page is the 10.1.1 update. The second update is what's called a 'drag install'. You just copy and replace files.
    >I can´t turn off the sond off my swf-file in director. I have unchecked sound, but I can still hear my movie
    Is this the sound of the FLV? If so, then simply turning off the swf's sound will not help as it's loading a flv. Inside the swf you'd have to put code that allows you to disable the sound of the FLV or set the volume to 0.

  • Director and PowerPoint

    I am more than happy to buy a third-party product if
    necessary for this. My objective is to call a PowerPoint

    OK, but that doesn't really answer what I was asking.
    Is it a self-contained show, or does the file require
    PowerPoint or a
    viewer application in order to run? The reason I ask is that
    if it's
    self-contained it's a single line of code to run it and have
    director
    wait until it's finished before executing the very next line
    of code

  • Unable to move panel groups in Director MX2004

    Any help would be appreciated on this.
    I opened Director today after installing/updating Vegas to
    version 7.0 and DVD Architect to version 4.0 a couple of weeks ago.
    Director MX2004 (ver. 10.1) opened, but when I tried to drag and
    drop the stage panel window, it flickered real funny then snapped
    back to the position it was in. Same thing with the Score.
    Very strange indeed.
    Wally

    I am having this same problem, I recently installed Sony
    Vegas also. I am unable to move the panels from the center of the
    screen as it just keeps them in the middle. It allows me to mount
    the property inspector, etc to the left, but not the right. When I
    try to put it on the right, the program shuts down. I could work
    with it having them mounting to left, but the stage, score, and
    cast windows stay centered and cannot be moved. I have un-installed
    it and reinstalled it and the same problem is happening. This is
    ridiculous, I am wondering if you found a correction to this
    problem. I do not think that Vegas would be causing the problem as
    I have Vegas and Director on my computer at work which has them
    both and works fine. This is on a PC with XP, as is my cpu at work.
    Also I have it setup with the dual monitors with the matrix2go
    system so I have two screens hooked up but that should not be the
    problem or reason for this happening. Does no one have a answer to
    this issue?

  • Importing PowerPoint slides in Director

    Is there a way to import PowerPoint slides in Director and getting all the animation to work? Thanks for your help.

    Hi Ibrahim,
    This question has been asked before. Check this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/85607#85607
    My suggestion would be to look for a Powerpoint to Flash (PPT to SWF) converter. There are a number of these available. Once you have the SWF, you can bring it into Director.

    I would like to learn how to create interactivity within my animations-like menus and such.
    a)where can I buy Director
    b)where can I re-learn it after 10 years?
    Thanks

    you can buy new online in the Adobe store or try to find a usefull version like MX2004 or 11.5 on ebay or similar recources.
    if you can get an upgradeable version at a cheap recource it will be better to upgrade to 11.5 as to buy  the full version 11.5.
    See eligeble versions in the Adobe online store.

    Hi Sara!
    Yes this sounds interesting. Can I update to that from the PDF Export I have just renewed? How much would that cost?
    Thanks for your quick answer.
