Dear All,
Does anyone knows how to copy document library to another site using powershell? (with item level permissions, created by and modified by)
I found a article but it doesn't help to copy all the metadata (with item level permissions)
Best Regards,

  • Vault and Copy Library...

So, currently I choose to update my vault on one external drive and copy the library once a month to another external drive. My working library is housed in my computer.
Yes, I have one project as referenced... a large project nonetheless. This project is stored on external #1 and 'copied' on external #2.
So... at the end of the day I have my working library on my internal computer. One vault on 1 external drive, backed up frequently. And one 'copy' of my library on another external drive.
By chance... if I loose my main, on a day... I can just drag the copy library on external #2 back to my internal and add any projects that were added since the last copy of the vault on external 2 since the last full copy.
Since dragging a copy of the complete library is faster than restoring from a Vault... does this seam like an intuitive double back up method? What would you do different.
Additional factors.... my Aperture library is about 110 gigs and my one referenced project is 20 gigs.
Any input regarding pros and cons of this set up will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    mb

sorry... I am using 10.4.11 if it matters.

  • Iphoto copy library is smaller than master

i've migrated to aperture and have copied my iphoto library to an external disc as backup. in doing so the copied library appears smaller than the original and i fear that some files may not have copied over.  any thoughts please?

Well it's pretty obvious that of you just copied over the Library and the size is different then something is awry, no?

  • I copied library to a new hard drive, now iphoto won't recognize files.

I am new to iPhoto, so be gentle. My daughter uses it a lot, and now I seem to have messed up her library. We are using iPhoto 4.0.3. OS 10.4.11
I installed a new hard drive. I copied the iTunes and iPhoto libraries to the new larger hard drive. I copied the iphoto library to a designated folder (not the default folder). My daughter has now moved the photos into their default location, and advised iPhoto of where to look - User/Daughter/Pictures/iPhoto library. When she opens iPhoto her photos don't appear. When she picks a photo and drops it into iPhoto, the message appears,
"could not be imported because an unrecognizable type or file may not contain valid data."
The files are jpegs that open fine in Photoshop, Preview etc.
I did some reading and saw reference to deleting the file com.apple.iphoto.plist. Tried that, no success.
I would appreciate your assistance. Like I say, I don't know iPhoto at all. As a second question, I have a G4 with a dual 1.8 processor, what version of iPhoto/iLife should I be looking to upgrade to?
    Thanks for your help.

"could not be imported because an unrecognizable type or file may not contain valid data."
That is the standard error you get when you try to import a photo that already resides inside the iPhoto Library folder. It prevents duplication in your library.
It sounds like you followed the correct procedure, but let's double-check. iPhoto can be run from a location other than the default. When you moved the library, did you copy the whole iPhoto Library folder as one intact unit? How did your dtr point iPhoto to the library? The correct way is to hold down Option while launching, select "Choose (or Find) Library" then navigate to the iPhoto Library folder and Open. Is this what you/she did? If so, perhaps try again?
As a second question, I have a G4 with a dual 1.8 processor, what version of iPhoto/iLife should I be looking to upgrade to?
I am very happy with iLife '06 on my 1.4 GHz G4 mini with 1 GB RAM. You could get iLife '08 for iPhoto 7, but be aware that iMovie 7 won't load on your machine because it requires a G5 or Intel machine. I made the decision not to upgrade because I'm happy with my current performance, and I think that the video-intensive and RAM-hog iPhoto 7 would bog down my mini. You can still buy iLife '06 from Amazon.com. See the system requirements:

  • How do i copy library items to a new users when my finder wont open?

i had the problem of my finder opening and closing constantly, i got told i need to create a new user which i did, the finder problem does not occurr in the new user, i then got told i need to copy my library items i want over to the new users but i cannot do that because the finder keeps closing my windows, any tips on how to access these folders not through the finder?
    thabks, nervous kiwi.

if finder is quitting unexpectedly during use, this is not a good thing.
if it is not persisting in a new user, then it is a corrupt user preference.
there are ways of accessing the data you are looking for without using finder, but if you are going to go that route, you may as well try and fix the finder issue you are having.
you will need to do all this through terminal.
you can probably just rename the ~/library/preferences folder to preferences.old then restart and log in to your user. and then it should work. the draw back to this, is you will lose your preferences. but you can always move over the ones you want back throught the finder window once it is working again.

  • Migration Failed, Manual Copied Library, Now all 'Date Added' is the same

Any clue on how to copy over my old library off my old laptop so that it preserves the "Date Added" file attributes? I remember my songs in time and when I added them, without that, I am lost when trying to find tracks.

I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this  thread for background.
In principle you can hold down shift, use File > Display Exact Duplicates, sort on Date Added and delete everything added on the date in question. What happens next depends of whether there are multiple copies of each file (in which case send the deleted files to the recycle bin) or the duplicates refer to the same set of original files (in which case don't recycle the files). If you're not sure explore the circumstances carefully or use my script, but heed the warning about the potential for multiple paths. (I'm working on a new more robust version but it may take some time.)

  • Copying library from one user to another

I have 2 Nano's. 2 very different song preferences. I want to keep the two libraries separate but right now all of the songs are in one library. I am tired of unchecking and rechecking every time we want to update one iPod.
Question is: If I consolidate the library to the other user (in Docs and settings) then go to that account and delete the music not desired, then come back to the original and do the same along with changing the itunes location to point to the account in documents and settings will I ruin anything?
My basic question is if I consolidate do I lose the pointer to the original location? I want the same library in both users and I will manually delete the songs from each user so they each have their own library.
Keep in mind that all of the CD's were loaded and are presently in 1 library which is driving me nuts.

    Hi beeb,
Jeff and I both use a mac not Windows so I hope this will work.
When I had to do something similar I found the folder on my hard drive that contained the album I wanted to move. I copied that to the hard drive of the other machine and then used the Add to Library command in iTunes.
This worked but I lost my ratings and my play count.
Give this a go to see if it does what you need. Copy only, don't move, then you won't be any worse off.
If it does work then you can move things around.
One thing to be wary of is if an album has multiple artists - they are in different folder for each artist. Well they are on the mac
Hope this helps until a Windows expert comes along.
    Regards,
    Colin R.

How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
    Summary
Learn how to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode.
    Products Affected
Desktop Computers, Mac OS, Portable Computers
FireWire target disk mode allows a Macintosh computer with a FireWire port (the target computer) to be used as an external hard disk connected to another computer (the host). Once a target computer is started up as a FireWire hard disk and is available to the host computer, you can copy files to or from that volume.
    Host computer requirements
Host computers must meet these requirements:
Built-in FireWire port or a FireWire port on a PC card
    FireWire 2.3.3 or later
    Mac OS 8.6 or later
    Target computers
These models can be used as target computers:
iMac (Slot Loading) with Firmware version 2.4 or later
iMac (Summer 2000) and all models introduced after July 2000
    eMac (all models)
    Mac mini (all models)
Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics) with ATA drive
    Power Mac G4 Cube
Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) and all models introduced after July 2000
    Power Mac G5 (all models)
    Mac Pro (all models)
iBook (FireWire) and all models introduced after September 2000
    PowerBook G3 (FireWire)
    PowerBook G4 (all models)
    MacBook Pro (all models)
MacBook models introduced before October 2008
Read more about FireWire Ports and Specifications.Note: FireWire Target Disk Mode works on internal PATA or SATA drives only. Target Disk Mode only connects to the master PATA drive on the Ultra ATA bus. It will not connect to Slave ATA, ATAPI, or SCSI drives. Before attempting FireWire target disk mode, check these items:
Make sure your software and firmware are up to date.
Disconnect all other FireWire devices from both computers before you use FireWire target disk mode. Do not connect any FireWire devices until after you have disconnected the two computers from each other or have stopped using target disk mode.
If "Open Firmware Password" has been enabled the computer will not go into Target Disk mode. More information on Open Firmware Password is available in the "What to do if your Mac doesn't enter FireWire Target Disk Mode" section of this article.
If you will be transferring FileVault-protected home directories (Mac OS X v10.3 or later only), log in as the FileVault-protected user and temporarily turn off FileVault. After transferring home directory contents to the target computer, enable FileVault protection again if you like.
To use FireWire target disk mode
Make sure that the target computer is turned off.
If you are using an Apple portable computer such as a PowerBook or MacBook as the target computer, plug in its AC power adapter.
Use a FireWire cable to connect the target computer to a host computer. The host computer can be powered on.
Start up the target computer and immediately press and hold down the T key until the FireWire icon appears. The hard disk of the target computer should become available to the host computer and will likely appear on desktop. (If the target computer is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, you can also open System Preferences, choose Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. Restart the computer and it will start up in Target Disk Mode.)
When you are finished copying files, locate the target computer's hard disk icon on the desktop of the host computer and drag it to the Trash or choose Eject (or Put Away) from the File menu.
Press the target computer's power button to turn it off.
    Unplug the FireWire cable.
Tips for using target disk mode with Intel-based Mac computers
If you attempt to mount an Intel-based Mac in target disk mode on a Macintosh running Mac OS X v10.3.9 or earlier, you'll see an alert message. For more information, see Intel-based Macs: "You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OS X can read" alert message. If your Intel-based Mac is becoming unresponsive while in Target Disk Mode, refer to Intel-based Mac may become unresponsive in target disk mode. What to do if your Mac doesn't enter FireWire target disk modeIf your computer does not enter FireWire target disk mode when you hold down the T key at startup and instead starts up into Mac OS, try these steps:
Make sure the FireWire cable is good, and check the connection.
Make sure no other FireWire devices are connected.
Make sure you are starting up the computer while pressing and holding down the T key.
Check the keyboard connection. Make sure the keyboard is connected directly to the computer and not through a display or hub. Whenever possible use an Apple wired or wireless keyboard.
Make sure that Open Firmware Password has not been enabled on this computer. Depending your OS version you may need to download the Open Firmware Password software. For more information on Open Firmware passwords, review Setting up firmware password protection in Mac OS X.

  • Powershell Copy User Description from one Domain to another in one Forest

    Hi.
I would like to copy the Description field from one domain to another domain in the same forest.
First I would like to get the following data from source domain
    - SamAccountName
    - Description
    - Office
    - Job Title
    - Department
    - Manager
I would like to get these informations to a txt-file. That I can manage myself, I think.
These values shoud then be set on the destination domain - and here my powershell skills are not suffecient. How do I add these values from txt-file to existing users? (if some users aren't there, the script should continue)....
I can Get-AdUser -Identity xxx -Server sourcedomain and Get-AdUser -Identity xxx -Server destinationdomain from the same powershell windows.
    Regards

Hi. Thank you very much for helping me out. I tried the above script and added in additional properties.
When I run the script, I only get one line in my csv-file, the Office-field is empty and all items appear on screen instead of output to file.
    The script looks as follows:
    $ou = [adsi] "LDAP:<Server>"
    $searcher = New-Object System.DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher $ou
    $searcher.Filter = 'objectClass=user'
    $result = $searcher.FindAll()
    foreach($contacts in $result)
     $contact = $contacts.GetDirectoryEntry()
     $contact | Select-Object -Property @{Name="SamAccountName";Expression={$_.SamAccountName}},
               @{Name="Description";Expression={$_.Description}},
               @{Name="Office";Expression={$_.Office}},
               @{Name="Title";Expression={$_.Title}},
               @{Name="Department";Expression={$_.Department}},
               @{Name="Manager";Expression={$_.Manager}}
    $contacts | Export-Csv -Path output.csv

  • Copy library to new computer

I want to copy my music from my iPod classic 80GB to my MacBook Pro and then copy some of that music to my iPhone 4.

You cannot copy from an iPod.
You should have the content of the iPod Classic in an iTunes Library on a computer. Let the iPhone Sync with that Library.

  • Copied library from older mac

As the title of this post indicates, I copied my Music folder from my old iMac G5 to my new MacBook Pro. I tried Migration Assistance but after a call to Apple care I was told to make a copy. Migration Assistant apparently does not work when migrating from Leopard to Snow Leopard.
The predictable result is that I have two identical libraries and I would like to differentiate them. What should I do?
I tried renaming my library on my old iMac but it didn't make a difference. Both my mac are updated to iTunes 9.0. Having the same name means I can't use the Home share option.
    Thank you in advance.

I renamed the library on my old Mac through iTunes. Preferences => General
I'm thinking that maybe i should deauthorize my old mac, erase the library, reauthorize it and then use home share option to sync both computers.

  • Copying library to another computer

Just bought another MacBook Pro.  My husband is taking the one we've used to sync IPad's, save photo's and music.  How to copy the Iphoto's library to my macbook pro along with all music and then sync my ipad to my computer.

She obviously knows what shes talking about, but if for some reason you have trouble with this method, I have another way.
I had the same issue last year (getting a laptop to take with me to college). Instead of trying to copy my music over to the other computer, I created a backup of my ITUNES library through the Itunes backup method (the process is really easy to find on here...it's a common thing to do), and then I loaded that backup onto my new laptop. I can't remember whether I had to authorize my new laptop or not, I think I did, but the process was really quick and easy. And that way, you have a backup copy just in case Vista does something screwy...which, having Vista myself, is a BIG possiblity. >:P
    Good Luck!

  • Copying Library data between PCs?

I currently have my Library in iTunes 9.2 on my Vista box. I'm planning on backing up my songs, replacing the HDD and starting fresh with Windows 7. I can always just reimport all of my songs into iTunes 10 on the new one, but is it possible to import the "Date Added", "Last Played", "Most Played" etc as well, like importing the actual Library.itl file as well? I mainly sort my music by the date I imported it and last time I moved my music (from iMac to Vista) I lost all that. I have over 8000 songs now so I'd really like to keep that info if I could.

I can always just reimport all of my songs into iTunes 10 on the new one, but is it possible to import the "Date Added", "Last Played", "Most Played" etc as well, like importing the actual Library.itl file as well?
Simply copy the entire \Music\iTunes\ folder to another drive.
Install Windows 7 then install iTunes.
Copy the iTunes folder back to \Music\ after you install Window 7.
Everything will be as it was.
No need to reimport or do anything else.

  • IPhoto Copy Library

    Hello,
I want to copy our main iPhoto Library from my Imac to Mom's Mac. We have a home network so dragging the file over to her machine would not be a problem. I have read this is the way to copy all the photos into her iPhoto application. But, should I delete her library before copying over? or after? or not at all. To confirm, copy the whole pictures folder or just the library?
Thanks for any advice so I hopefully won't screw up to family photos.
ps: why is the file stuck on "calculating size" when viewing in "Get Info" both in pictures folder and library?
    Bill

When i try to choose a library to load off an EHD it is shaded and wont let me choose it.
What won’t let you choose it? Moving a Library is the business of the Finder.
No early version of iPhoto can read a later version’s library. Period.
This has been the case since about v2. However, every later version of iPhoto can read any early version Library.
if thats the case apple really is evil and im not amused
Gee, do you know of any app that’s guaranteed forward compatible? And “evil”?
    Congrats on the new baby.
    Regards

  • Copying Library from external HDD into Mac Pro

I have a copy of my iTunes 9 library (from an earlier Windows PC) on a USB HDD and want to copy the content into the library of my new Mac. Which folder shall I paste it into? Is this the one that shows up under preference > Advanced > Media Library?
If I replace that content with the one in my HDD, will it work in iTunes 10?
    Thanks
    Shan

I would troubleshoot or dump the LaCie in favor of something else.
LaCie have been trouble enough in the past with FW ports, power adapters, shorting of cables, running very slow when connected off PCIe SATA using USB/eSATA cases.
But you never say if this is a FW800 case, or what interface, that is so slow. Resetting FW ports is a troubleshooting trick designed just for LaCie cases. Along with swapping cables and power adapter.
I would give all your drives a shot of Alsoft Disk Warrior to insure that the directory and file system are okay. And look at the hardware test in DW output for spare blocks vanishing on the drive.
Using SATA drive, case, and controller of course should be fast and done in seconds, not minutes.
