PowerShell Scripts to register App to AD

currently we have powershell scripts in place to create Service Principal, but of what I know, for an registered app to be seen in Azure Portal it should have an Application Object as well as a Service Principal. So my question is, if there is an existing
powershell scripts which helps me register an application to AD (Security Principal + Application Object) which would be visible in Portal, for maintenance ahead?

Hi PrajaktaSamant,
Thanks for your post!
The applications you see in the portal are projections of the Application entities in the directory. The apps created via powershell are only ServicePrincipals I believe. For a detailed explanation of the difference between the two see

  • Error while adding the app in the sharepoint(2013) page through powershell script

    Hi,
        I have created one powershell script to uninstall and install the sharepoint 2013 apps. The code is working fine, but after adding the app in the page I am getting the error "
    Internet Explorer can not display the webpage".
    If I am deploying the app through Visual Studio, its getting deployed successfully and I am getting an option to trust the app.And I am able to add it in the page. But this permission is not coming when I am installing the app using power shell.
    Please let me know whether to do any modifications to the power shell script.
    Thanks.

    Hi petro_jemes,
    Just a little claritification, you need to add the value to the variable "[string]$ou", and also change the language in the variable "$emailbody" in the function "Get-ADUserPasswordExpirationDate".
    I hope this helps.

  • Execute a powershell script from a windows store apps

    Hello Everybody !
    I'd like to launch a powershell script from a windows store apps.
    In fact the purpose is install a windows store apps from an other windows store apps.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    If it's a sideloaded LOB application, you can do this using a brokered component:

  • Trying to deploy a batch or powershell script unsuccessful

    I've deployed a .cmd file out that contains a WMI script to uninstall all instances of an application called "VirtViewer". The script looks like this:
    taskkill /F /IM remote-viewer.exe /T
    wmic product where "name like 'VirtViewer%%'" call uninstall /nointeractive
    exit /B %EXIT_CODE%
    Previously, I had used MSI product codes for the uninstall, and got the same result. My original problem, is that there are currently 9 different versions of this app out there, so i am ripping them all out and replacing with 1 version. Installing over an
    old version does not overwrite the older one, it instead installs a new instance.
    Reading through the execmgr.log on the client, everything looks as it should.
    The end result, is that nothing happens. I had originally set the program to run as hidden, but then changed it to normal but still do not see it run. The application is right where i left it, untouched. If i run the script locally it works fine, but not
    when deployed. Am i missing something??

    exit /B
    Again, the script runs great when launched locally, but not wehen deployed

  • Powershell Script - Convert Managed Metadata column Value to string

    HI,
    I have written a small PowerShell Script to pull records from a SP List and put them in a csv file. Here is the script:
    $MyWeb = Get-SPWeb "http://dev-apps:8800/applications/PA"
    $MyList = $MyWeb.Lists["Alist"]
    $exportlist = @()
    $Mylist.Items | foreach {
    $obj = New-Object PSObject -Property @{
    “PName” = $_["Port Name"]
    "AName" = $_["Agent Name"]
    "Address 1" = $_["Address 1"]
    "Address 2" = $_["Address 1"]
    "Address 3" = $_["Address 3"]
    "Address 4" = $_["Address 4"]
    $exportlist += $obj
    $exportlist | Export-Csv -path 'C:\Filename.csv'
    The script is running all right, the output file is also created, data is also correct for all columns but 1. This PName is a
    Managed metadata type column and the output values I am getting for this column are like this:
    "ERICA|a6d1e8fd-1f6b-4e09-9830-d21e35950881"
    "CLIVE|24dff17f-a1b5-4abe-ae86-57299e1e098b"
    viz. the ["Actual Value"|"its GUID"] (seems so). I do not want this GUID to be included in the result csv. Is there a way to remove it.
    P.S. Choice column values are being fetched just file.

    Try this (you'll need to add in your other properties)
    $items = New-Object psobject
    $items | Add-Member -MemberType NoteProperty -Name "AName" -value "" ;
    $items | Add-Member -MemberType NoteProperty -Name "PName" -value "" ;
    $items | Add-Member -MemberType NoteProperty -Name "Address1" -value "" ;
    $items | Add-Member -MemberType NoteProperty -Name "Address2" -value "" ;
    $items | Add-Member -MemberType NoteProperty -Name "Address3" -value "";
    $exportlist = @();
    $Mylist.Items | foreach {
    $pname = $_["PName"] -as [Microsoft.SharePoint.Taxonomy.TaxonomyFieldValue];

  • Nested PowerShell script loads incorrect assembly

    I have a Powershell script that is being used to provision Azure resources.
    Let us call this script A.
    In this script I invoke another script called Script B.
    I use a statement like this:
    .\scriptb  param1 param2 param3 param4
    Inside Script B
    I have the following code that loads Microsoft.Servicebus.dll
    Packages directory has version 2.6.0.0 of Microosft.ServiceBus.dll
        $scriptPath = Split-Path (Get-Variable MyInvocation -Scope 0).Value.MyCommand.Path
        $packagesFolder = (Split-Path $scriptPath -Parent) + "\packages"
        $assembly = Get-ChildItem $packagesFolder -Include "Microsoft.ServiceBus.dll" -Recurse
        Add-Type -Path $assembly.FullName
    Assembly is loaded successfully.
    If  I invoke .\ScriptA which in turn calls Script B for some reason a very old version of Microsoft.ServiceBus.dll is loaded.
    However If I invoke ScriptB directly the PowerShell command prompt correct version of Microsoft.ServiceBus.dll is loaded.
    In each case exact same code is being executed. However for some reason calling the ScriptB directly seems to work but calling it from ScriptA  loads the wrong version of Microsoft.ServiceBus.dll
    What is difference between calling a script from Powershell command prompt as compared with calling it from another script.
    I am hoping somebody can help me debug this issue.
    Thanks

    Thanks for making the suggestion.
    I did print the packagesFolder and scriptPath as you suggested.

  • Windows 8.1 - How to enable "Require additional authentication at startup" for bitlocker using powershell script?

    I need help to do this using powershell scripts on Windows 8.1?
    OS : Windows 8.1 Enterprise
    TPM Chip : None
    Enabling bitlocker on OS drive with a password at boot time is a 2 step process.
    1) Edit the Group Policy (gpedit.msc) - Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> BitLocker Drive Encryption -> Operating System Drives ->
    Require additional authentication at startup -> Allow bitlocker without a compatible TPM
    ref : http://www.7tutorials.com/how-enable-bitlocker-without-tpm-chip-windows-7-windows-8
    2) Enable Bitlocker on c driver using manage bitlocker snapin
    I need help to do this using powershell scripts?
    I researched on the forums but ran into an issue.
    I found that Group policy commandlets can be used to do step 1.
    I am getting the error : "ins have been registered for Windows PowerShell version 4" when I try to do the following in windows 8.1
    Add-PSSnapin GroupPolicy
    Import-Module GroupPolicy -Verbose

  • Deploy powershell script - Uninstall Forefront

    Hi
    Im trying to build a powershell script that uninstall Forefront Client and later install SCEP and it also copy the local exclusions from Forefront to insert in SCEP (registry).
    All works fine when Im running the script locally, but when Im deploying it from Altiris DS it halts on Microsoft Forefront Client Security Antimalware Service". Every time, I also have tried to sort them differently but it wont work.
    All I see in the event viewer is a warning:
    "Application 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Forefront\Client Security\Client\Antimalware\MSASCui.exe' (pid 1964) cannot be restarted - Application SID does not match Conductor SID.."
    And then later an error:
    HRESULT:0x80070643
    Description:Cannot complete the System Center Endpoint Protection installation. An error has prevented the System Center Endpoint Protection setup wizard from completing successfully. Please restart your computer and try again. Error code:0x80070643. Fatal
    error during installation.
    This is the deployment from Altiris:
    powershell.exe -noexit "& 'C:\Temp\ForefrontSCEP.ps1'"
    Does anyone has any clue?
    Cheers!
    **** The script ****

    # "Uninstall Microsoft MOM"
    $app = Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_Product | Where-Object {
        $_.Name -match "Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Agent"
    $app.Uninstall()
    # "Uninstall Forefront Assessment"
    $app = Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_Product | Where-Object {
        $_.Name -match "Microsoft Forefront Client Security State Assessment Service"
    $app.Uninstall()

    Start-Process -FilePath C:\Temp\SCEPClient_New\scepinstall.exe -ArgumentList "/s /q /policy C:\Temp\SCEPClient_New\ServerSCEP.xml" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue

    I finally solved, in two ways.
    For the powershell part:
    I changed the name match against a filter function. So now I can deploy the powershell script just fine.
    $app = Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_Product | Where-Object {
        $_.Name -match "Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Agent"
    $application = Get-WMIObject Win32_Product -filter "Name='Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Agent'"
    2nd solution:
    I also created a batch file which worked at my first try. Gotta love the old fashion way :)
    I post it here as well, maybe somebody can get use of it.
    Uninstall Forefront - Install SCEP - Copy local exclusions

  • Powershell script for removing some users from a particular Site Collection

    Hi,
    I am looking for a PowerShell script to delete a few users from a particular Site Collection. I am unable to delete them from/_catalogs/Users/simple.aspx page therefore need some other medium to
    delete users from the site collection.
    My ultimate aim is to have no user profile with "tp_deleted" field's value as 0 in the USERINFO table. Currently there are about 40 odd users with this field's value as 0 and this is affecting my crawling of this content database.

    Thanks for the reply Alex & eHaze,
    I have a content source of root site which crawls all the site collections under it. Out of the 9 site collections, only 8 are getting crawled and 1 doesn't get crawled at all. The error in the crawl logs is
    The SharePoint item being crawled returned an error when requesting data from the web service. ( Error from SharePoint site: Value does not fall within the expected range. )
    I tried a lot of things, searched over the net and finally found
    this which helped me solve the same issue in my development environment. I deleted these users from userInfo table and ran a full crawl. And the issue was fixed.
    Now since I cannot delete the users from userInfo table directly from PROD environment, I used .../_catalogs/Users/simple.aspx list
    to delete users from this site collection. While some of the users I could delete, quite a few I could not. Clicking on the profile redirected me to the home page rather than the info page of the profile.
    This
    is why I have to delete these users from the site collection.
    Alex - the link you shared, I guess it is for a web application level.
    eHaze - the script you shared throws this error:

  • Extract Variables from Powershell Script

    Hey Guys
    I am building a workflow that sync's active directory to the IAC database and i am looking to make it as efficient as possible by reducing the amount of powershell scripts I use into one and then utilise the powershell variables to get what i need.
    Is it possible to extract the stored variables into a workflow variable as opposed to using the output of the powershell statement?
    Has anyone else built a workflow that sync's users to a DB that runs efficiently possible on the when modified date at the moment mine takes 28 minutes to sync 200 users.
    Matt

    From a design perspective, I would suggest to use the Generic OLEDB database adapter.  There is an OleDB provider for Active Directory called ADsDSOObject. You can find it through a search on the Microsoft site.  It may be installed as a part of standard Windows or .Net.  Not sure. If you could get this registered on the PO server, you would be able to do a select and use the output as a native table instead of Powershell output parsing.
    Powershell tends to be non-performant.  Definitely I would caution against calling PowerShell repeatedly in a loop.

  • Executing SCVMM PowerShell scripts via C# conditionally works depending on application type

    I suspect that this is the wrong forum but I could not find one that was appropriate.
    The environment is SCVMM 2012 R2. I have a series of PowerShell scripts that are executed via C# code from a variety of applications -- MVC, WCF, console, unit tests. It seems that successful connection to the VMM server is dependent on the type of application
    being used. For example, console apps and WCF apps can connect successfully but the
    same code running in a unit test or standard MVC app throw the following exception:
    {You cannot access VMM management server SC-01. (Error ID: 1604)
    Contact the Virtual Machine Manager administrator to verify that your account is a member of a valid user role and then try the operation again.}
        CategoryInfo: {ReadError: (:) [Get-SCVirtualMachine], CarmineException}
        ErrorDetails: {You cannot access VMM management server SC-01. (Error ID: 1604)
    Contact the Virtual Machine Manager administrator to verify that your account is a member of a valid user role and then try the operation again.}
        Exception: {"You cannot access VMM management server SC-01.\r\nContact the Virtual Machine Manager administrator to verify that your account is a member of a valid user role and then try the operation again."}
        FullyQualifiedErrorId: "1604,Microsoft.SystemCenter.VirtualMachineManager.Cmdlets.GetVMCmdlet"

        PipelineIterationInfo: Count = 0
        ScriptStackTrace: "at <ScriptBlock>, <No file>: line 1"
        TargetObject: null
    I suspect that somehow, each app is running under different credentials but I cannot see how that is possible. Each app exhibits the stated behavior whether running within Visual Studio (w/ IIS Express) [running under my own account] or published to the
    server running under a specific specified account that definitely has permissions to the VMM environment.
    This behavior is easily reproducible with the following code
    -- PS Script as embedded resource
    Get-SCVirtualMachine -VMMServer "SC-01"
    -- C# code to load and execute script
    using System;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.Linq;
    using System.Text;
    using System.Threading.Tasks;
    using System.Management.Automation;
    namespace LabManagement {
    public class HyperVVirtualMachineManager {
    public IEnumerable<Models.VirtualMachine> GetVirtualMachines() {
    var vms = new List<Models.VirtualMachine>();
    try {
    using (var rs = System.Management.Automation.Runspaces.RunspaceFactory.CreateRunspace()) {
    rs.Open();

    namespace VirtualLabManagement.ConsoleTests {
    class Program {
    static void Main(string[] args) {
    // Arrange
    var svc = new LabManagement.HyperVVirtualMachineManager();
    // Act
    var hosts = svc.GetVirtualMachines();
    // Assert
    -- Unit Test (Fails)
    [TestMethod]
    public void TestMethod1() {
    // Arrange
    var svc = new LabManagement.HyperVVirtualMachineManager();
    // Act
    var hosts = svc.GetVirtualMachines();
    // Assert
    Assert.IsNull(hosts);
    As you can see, the code is exactly the same between the different executions but the ability to connect differs.

    Hi Sir,
    I would like to check the following items:
    1. "a variety of applications -- MVC, WCF, console, unit tests." they are all installed on same computer?
    2. VMM server still installed on same computer as these app resides in ?
    (if it is possible please detail the topology of the environment )
    If they are running at same account on same computer , I would suggest you to post this issue into Code UI forum for further assistance :

  • Installer launching command prompt that should run a powershell script and remain open

    I am using the Microsoft Visual Studio Installer Projects extension for VS 2013. This installer is designed to place a windows app in a directory and then launch a powershell script to prompt the user to sideload the application. From what I read online,
    you can make a windows console application and then add that .exe under the install custom actions to have the exe run after the installation is done. My installer is running the executable, but not in the way I want it to. This is the code that the console
    application has:
    static void Main(string[] args)
    Process.Start(@"C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe", @"-ExecutionPolicy bypass -NoExit -File Application\Add-AppDevPackage.ps1");
    One key thing to note here is the -NoExit. I want the prompt to remain open. If I run this console application directly, the powershell console does indeed stay open. You can see here where I have added the .exe as part of the install custom action.
    One additional thing to note is when I looked at the exe in the directory after the install, it is different than the one generated when I compile the console application project. I wouldn't know why the installer is physically changing the binary when I
    expect it to just copy the output from that compiled project/copy that file.
    If anyone has any additional input on how to make this process easier to have an installer (.msi) to place my windows app in a directory and run a powershell script to prompt the user to sideload it, then I welcome that too.
