Powershell site creation Sharing permissions issues

Hello, I'm new at this Sharepoint administration stuff.I created a new site collection in powershell with this:
$template = Get-SPWebTemplate "STS#0"
New-SPSite -Url "http://website/its/newsitehere" -OwnerAlias "main\userhere" -Template $template
And now, when I try to "Share" it by clicking on the top right of the site, the only permission option is "View".
I have made other sites through the GUI (Central Administration) and the other options are there. But when I create it through Powershell the only permissions available is View.
What can be the problem?
Thanks!

Hi,
From your description, when you shared the new site collection you created by PowerShell, there was only “View” permission option.
I have tested in my SharePoint 2013 environment, and the same happened.
Please access site settings -> People and groups, then you will see only one group with view only permission. You can create some new groups with different permission levels so that you can share this site collection with different permission options.
Thanks,
Wendy

  • File Sharing Permissions Issue

We are using file sharing between macs in an art department, where we are sharing out one folder that contains many sub folders that contain art divided by customer name and job/art numbers. Whenever an artist makes a new folder (or copies a "Template" folder) into the shared working folder I have to then go to that artists machine and tell the Mac to copy permissions to all enclosed folders in order for another user to access the files contained within the new folders.
Is there a way to make all enclosed folders in the shared folder inherit permissions? We have 15 artists sharing files, so fixing sharing permissions several times a day is getting old.

you can put a name of a group instead of a specific user name in the command. for example you can put "staff" in there which is a group that contains all users with accounts on the machine. or you can just put "everyone" instead of "username" and that will work for all users including guest users. you can also make a group in system preferences->accounts, add the users you want to that group and use the name of that group in the command.

  • Sharing permissions issue

I am trying to share folders via the inbuilt samba server configured with the System Preferences sharing panel. The issue I am facing is that permissions for specific users are being ignored after I have navigated beyond the initial shared folder
    e.g.
    I have three folders Folder1, Folder2 and Folder 3 in a hierarchy Folder 1 -> Folder 2 -> Folder 3
I have created a sharing only account "sharing"
All 3 folders have the permissions, sharing - Read and Write, Everyone - No Access
However when I access the share with the "sharing" account credentials I have read and write access on Folder 1 but no access on the folders inside in e.g. Folder 2 and Folder 3
After some investigation it appears that after the root folder of the share I seem to be getting the "Everyone" permissions applied to me rather than the permissions set for the account I logged into the share as. For example if I set the permissions for everyone on Folder 2 to read and write I can read and write to it.
Is this a know issue and if not does anyone know of a solution?
    Cheers

Okay there is no way to assign ACLs from the finder, if you are comfortable with the I will post instructions. However there is a GUI utility called TinkerToy 1.5, that you might want to look into.. It can be used in DEMO mode for 5 launches per computer.
Please let me know if you want the SHELL commands, or if TinkerToy is helpfull to you, and most importably resolves your permission issue.
    Thanks,
    Brent

  • File sharing permissions issue between Macbook Pro and iMac

    Hi,
I'm having trouble sharing files to and from a Macbook Pro and iMac. Both are brand new, and connected via a firewire cable (Due to large file sizes)
I can share files between both computers no problem, but the files are set to 'Read only' by default once moved to the over device and can't be moved or renamed without requiring a password every single time.
Is there a way to totally share files without having to enter a password every time I want to move or rename it?
    > File sharing is turned ON on both computers.
    > Share files and folders using AFP is ticked
    > Share files and folders using SMB is ticked also.
    Thanks

Try disabling SMB File Sharing, & in the Sharing Pref Panes>Sharing>Options, see what users are listed.
Also, try logging into the other Mac with the Other Mac's username & PW, not using the name & PW of the one you're on.

These new secondary sites are off of a new primary site in another region.  In region 1, secondary site creation had no issues. I am unsure where to go from here.  I have tried deleting the secondary sites and removing all installed applications
and running through creation again.  I have also tried recreating with different site codes.  Installation appears to complete successfully and I can see my sites in ADSIEdit.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Site Creation Issue.

We had a user report a site creation issue with their site. They had been able to create sites with no problem up to this point. But now, when attempting to crate a site they get an error "User can't be found". But if they create a blank site
I or a blank team workspace. The site creates without incident. Any idea? The permissions appear to be correct but they can't create anything but blank sites without receiving the error. Maybe check permissions to webparts and templates (Do you know where
    I could do that)?

    Hi,
Did you mean create site collections in the CA?
Did the users have admin permission or other permission? You can use the admin account to check whether it works.
To narrow down the issue, you can use other web application to check whether it works.
Maybe the web application had been corrupted.
You can also check the event log and ULS log to see if anything unexpected occurred.
To check event log, click the Start button and type “Event Viewer” in the Search box.
For SharePoint 2010, by default, ULS log is at
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Mac sharing / windows 7 / permissions issues

    Dear all,
I am new to anything mac, except for my iphone. Now I just bought a brand new mac mini, which I connected to my TV so I can watch movies, play my iTunes library, etc.
The rest of my computers are all Windows 7 machines (laptops, work pc, etc.)
I have permissions issue, which I can't seem to resolve. Here are the specifics:
    - I've created a folder in the root of my "Macintosh HD" called "NAS".
    - I've created a user on the mac called "tjeerdanne"
    - I have enabled sharing of the "NAS" folder and gave the user "tjeerdanne" read/write permissions
    - The main mac user is called "tjeerdkramer". I have also granted this (admin) user read/write permissions to this folder.
    - On any windows 7 machine, I can access the "NAS" folder just fine, using "tjeerdanne" as the user to connect. I can also read/write folders to it.
    - Now, when I am sitting behind my Mac again, I can see the folders newly created folders, but I can't access them (permission denied).
My question is, how do I set it up so that the main Mac user can access all content written by the "tjeerdanne" share user?
The strange this is, when someone with another mac connects to my mac-mini using the same credentials (tjeerdanne) he can also read/write (as expected) to this "NAS" folder, but the folders created by another mac, *can* be accessed by me, sitting behind my mac mini...
Hope someone can help me out here...

I have since attempted to boot from the Windows 7 install disk by using both the OS 10.6.3 System Preferences/Startup Disk and from within Windows XP using the Boot Camp Control Panel. In both cases, all I saw was a black screen with a “Select CD-ROM Boot Type” and flashing cursor. No keyboard input was possible.
If anyone encounters this problem, go to the Boot Camp/Installation and Storage discussion and search for “Select CD-ROM Boot Type”. Hal Jay Greene has an excellent article here titled “Select CD-ROM Boot Type Error installing Windows 7 in Boot Camp walkthrough” dated Mar 20, 2010 that walks one through the process of creating a boot disk for installing Windows 7 x64. Two minor comments on his discussion. John Anderson’s blog is at www.AndersonsHatch.com (note extra s) and Imgburn can be downloaded free from www.imgburn.com.
I used Mr. Greene’s procedure and the resultant boot disk loaded Windows 7 correctly.
Unfortunately, a new issue arose. Installing Windows 7 over Windows XP requires a clean install that eliminates all Boot Camp installations. After installing Windows 7, I attempted to load Boot Camp by inserting the Mac SL installation disk and clicking on Setup in the Boot Camp folder. The result was this error message: “Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model”. Fortunately, there is a procedure that worked for me, and my MacPro, to bypass this error message. It can be found near the bottom of this article http://blog.andersonshatch.com/2009/01/11/windows-7-x64-on-a-macbook-pro-guide/ on John Anderson’s blog.

  • Severe Security Issue with Sharing Permissions and Windows

I recently discovered a severe Security issue with the windows sharing an permission settings:
I have two users, an admin user and a parental controlled user. On my mac mini, i have a external harddrive connected. On the harddrive, i have three folders, Itunes, Iphoto (Package) and a Temp Folder. I want to share the Harddrive RW for the admin, but only R for the parental user. But the Temp folder should be accessible for RW for the parental as well.
    1. I set the Drive checkbox "ignore ownership" off.
    2. I set the permissions of the drive to admin RW, parental R and Everyone to "no access"
    3. I apply to enclosed Items
    4. I set the permission of the Temp folder to admin RW, parental RW and Everyone to "no access"
    5. I apply to enclosed Items
    6. I go to "File Sharing" in the Preferences and activate SMB sharing for both users
    7. I delete all previous shares
    8. I add the Disk and use the proposed permissions which are admin RW, parental R, Everyone "no access"
    9. I add the Temp folder and use the proposed permissions which are admin RW, parental RW, Everyone "no access" - Funny, there is a new Group called "Temp" created which has custom access on both sharepoints
    10. I connect to the mac over a Windows machine (NTLM auth set appropriatly). Now I try to create a folder on the root of the Disk share, I get a denied message.
BUT WHEN I GO INTO A SUBFOLDER (eg. ITUNES or IPHOTO), WHICH HAS ALSO JUST "R" PERMISSION FOR THE PARENTAL USER, I AM ABLE TO RW, DELETE AND DO EVERYTHING!!!
TO RECAPITULATE: THE SHARING PERMISSIONS ARE "R", AND THE FILE PERMISSIONS IN THE RESPECTIVE FOLDERS FOR THE RESPECTIVE USER ARE ALSO JUST "R". BUT THE USER CAN DO EVERYTHING IN THE SUBFOLDERS!!!

  • Sharing files between user accounts without permissions issues

I have two user accounts on my iMac and need to make files available to both accounts, back and forth, without having to worry about permissions issues. Files need to be read and edited from both accounts.  I posted previously about this and was told to place the files in Users/Shared.  I've done this but it hasn't accomplished what I need.
I created a document in one account and saved it to Users/Shared, but when I opened the document from the other account and tried to edit it, I was told that I didn't have permission to edit and that I needed to duplicate the file.  How can I avoid having to set permissions for files that I need to edit from both user accounts?

    Or not.
I butt up against this lunacy frquently.
I have just created a file saved to my external NAS - no problem - tried to save my edits - now don't have permission to do so.  Again - checked - custom access - again.  Ridiculous.
Why can Apple not sort out this fundamental problem - if I create a file and put it on my network where I WANT IT - the OS should not then prevent me from accessing it.
I spend hours, regularly, trying to sort this out.  Apple OS is a joke.
And to be kept being told - do this, do that, use terminal, reset passwords is ridiculous.
    Sorry for the rant.
    But this is the limit.
    Mike

  • Permissions issues after migration

I've just got hold of a new retina MBP, and have had a number of issues since using setup assistant to transfer everything over from my old MBP to my new MBP.
I suspect these are all permissions based - but would appreciate some help from an expert.  My conviction that they are all permissions related is because initially I had an issue with not being able to access certain folders and applications (including Mail), which was resolved by my adding my user name to the Sharing and Permissions info section of the Home and Applications folders, and applying changes to all contents.
    However these issues still remain:
TopSites in Safari not updating to show that the websites have changed.
         - This despite me trashing the TopSites plist from library, and emptying the cache.
    My Epson scanner won't open.
         - When I plug it in and open the application it tells me it cannot 'write to file', and then shuts itself down.
When I open iPhoto I always get the welcome message, and I can't find an option not to show this on start-up.
         - It's like the MBP doesn't register that I'm not using iPhoto for the first time, even though everything else works fine.
I always get a file - cache.db - sitting on the top of my Home file.
         - I can trash it but it always pops back.
    My Address Book won't update.
         - iCal updates fine, and my updates are changed on iCloud but I can't get the Address Book to pick up changes on my MBP.
When I reboot and open Mail it always opens the latest email at the time of my original migration
         - and not the latest or the unread at the top.
I'd be grateful if any experts out there could offer up any solutions to these riddles.

The procedure below will reset the permissions of a home folder in OS X 10.7.4 or later. If you're running an earlier version of 10.7, update to the current version first. This procedure should not be used in OS X versions older than 10.7.4.
    Back up all data.
Click the Finder icon in the Dock, then press the following key combinations, in the order given:
    Command-3
    Shift-command-H
    Command-I
The Info window of your home folder will open. Click the lock icon in the lower right corner and authenticate with the name and login password of an administrator on the system. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
In the Sharing & Permissions section of the window, verify that you have "Read & Write" privileges. If not, use the "+" and "-" buttons in the lower left corner to make the necessary changes.
By default, the groups "staff" and "everyone" have "Read Only" privileges. With those settings, the files at the top level of your home folder will be readable by other local users. You can change the privileges to "No Access" if you wish, but then your Public and Drop Box folders will be inaccessible to others, and Personal Web Sharing won't work. Most likely, you don't need to change these settings.
If there are entries in the Sharing & Permissions list for users or groups besides "me," "staff," and "everyone," delete them.
Click the gear icon at the bottom of the Info window and select Apply to enclosed items... from the drop-down menu. Confirm. The operation may take several minutes to complete. When it does, close the Info window.

  • "You have custom access"??? (permissions issue)

Apologies if this has been covered before but I have quite a few folders that say "You have custom access" in the Sharing & Permissions section of the "Get Info" Finder window, not "You can read and write" as I would expect. Some of these really do seem to have unusual permissions, such as an "(unknown user)" entry, but others appear to have identical permissions to those for which Get Info says "You can read and write."
I suspect this is somehow related to some (but not all) of these folders originally being created in OS 10.1 (!!) & now in my Leopard file system courtesy of various Migration Assistant & Setup Assistant transfers spanning several Macs & hard drives since I played around with that ancient OS version.
Can anyone help me understand why this is so & more importantly how I can set these folder's permissions to the default, non-custom ones, which I assume will say "You can read and write" in the Get Info window?

    Francine Schwieder wrote:
This whole issue is very convoluted and confusing, with new bewilderments (at least bewildering to me) turning up every day.
I agree completely! I keep hoping Apple will post some kbase articles or update Mac Help to explain more about the defaults & options, but so far the only things I have found are Mac OS X 10.5 Help: Sharing files on your network, Mac OS X 10.5 Help: Setting file-sharing options, & similar "lightweight" instructions which really don't say much more than I can discover by just poking around on my own.
For myself, I simply gave up, cloned my Leopard install to the disk I had been using for Time Machine, and did an erase and install, then let the migration assistant that pops up as the install finishes copy what it wished how it wished from the cloned system. At least things now look consistent: no more "unknown" files, no ACLs where none should be in my home folder, all new files are saved to the apparent new standard: user francine uid 501, group staff gid 20 (of course yesterday I found out even that isn't as straight-forward as one might think, I'll spare your the details).
Ironically perhaps, my Leopard install was done the same way (using Setup Assistant to copy everything possible from my Tiger clone, which is what I think you mean you used here) & it *did not* cause Spotlight to start indexing the Leopard volume or resolve any of the "unknown user" issues for me. This may have been because I messed around with permissions settings on some of my document files on the Tiger volume long ago when it had an additional standard account (since deleted), so that account's UID or GID could have been attached to a few files.
Just to muddy the waters even more, I've discovered a file (/Library/Preferences/com.apple.preferences.accounts.plist) that contains an array of four essential properties of every account I've ever deleted since installing Tiger: the "UniqueID" (which appears to be the UID), the short & long user names, & the date deleted. This file apparently is created anew each time an account is deleted (except curiously its creation date is exactly one day later than that of the last account deletion) but it clearly includes the info from previous versions.
Annoyingly, the Sharing Only user that I added that (I think) caused Spotlight to start indexing did not have the UID (& thus GID) of the deleted account I mentioned above, so the theory that the old account had something to do with it now looks dubious at best.
The more I study this, the less it makes any sense.

  • Permissions issue locks me out of my desktop folder

    Hi All.
I have a worrying dilema that I am hoping someone can advise me on.
    The symptoms are:
*1. A blank desktop after start-up (files, folders and volumes are not loading)*
*2. It takes an extremely long time for the "Devices", "Shared", and "Places" lists to populate in the open-dialogue sidebar.*
*3. Saving files from applications takes an unusually long time.*
*4. All other apps and non-Finder related activities appear unaffected.*
*5. If I navigate directly to the "Desktop" folder in my user folder in the Finder, it appears as an alias. I double click on it and a window appears which says it is trying to resolve the alias, and soon after I get this permissions error:*
*"The folder “Desktop” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents."*
So overall this appears to be a permissions issue impacting my desktop directory. A similar thing happened six months ago. On that occasion I tried repairing permissions which didn't help and I ended up creating a new user account and restoring from Time Machine.
I'd prefer not to have to do that again. More so, I'd like to actually fix the root cause this time.
My appreciation in advance for any advise that at least makes my desktop reappear.
    Best,
    Wade.

  • My Site creation failing

Hi all, I'm sure this is something someone has experienced before but I'm struggling to solve a problem I have with Personal Site Creation. This was working absolutely fine when the farm was initially built but stopped some time around the introduction of
a "branding" solution that relied on feature stapling - I have now retracted that solution and stapling to get back to normal but the issue persists.
Ultimately, the issue centres around the simple fact that a users' My Site is never created. Their User Profile shows SPSITEERROR and capabilities of "0" and never resolves itself. I have of course attempted to delete the SPSITEERROR entry and
increase the capabilities value to 14 but this has had no effect.
After doing this, monitoring the ULS logs shows what I expect to be the normal activity of site creation but ultimately results in an error as shown below. Lines 2 and 3 seem to be the most pertinent.
The user does not currently have a My Site, so there is no conflict and nothing to delete or remove. It isn't a problem with the User Profile Sync service since that is synchronising and updating profiles as expected. There is a root site collection (as
mentioned, My Site creation worked fine when the farm was built and for a while afterward) so it isn't that either. I have attempted to manually start the My Site instantiation jobs but this didn't resolve and they aren't stuck. I have also removed and re-created
the My Site instantiation jobs for the web application without effect. I'm unable to resolve this issue seemingly without further assistance.

Thanks for the reply Rahul. As mentioned, the users' personal site url all state SPSITEERROR. I have removed this manually and tried again but it re-appears.
Having looked through the timer jobs using the following PowerShell, none have failed with an error.
    $Wa = Get-SPWebApplication "http://webapp.domain.tld"
    $Wa.JobHistoryEntries | Where-Object {$_.Status -ne "Succeeded"}
    Thanks
    Lewis

  • Reporting Services Point - possibly permissions issue

I'm having a really hard time configuring a working reporting services point in my test SCCM 2012 R2 environment and was hoping someone might be able to help me work out what's gone wrong.
My servers are WS2008 R2.  SQL Server 2008 R2 is installed on the primary site server and holds the site database.  I installed SSRS onto a separate site server and added it as a reporting services point.  This worked, and I see the list of
reports in the SCCM admin console.  However, when I try to run a report - either from the console or via web browser - I get this message:
The default value expression for the report parameter 'usertokensids' contains an error.  There are no logon servers available to service the logon request. (rsRuntimeErrorInExpression)
       at Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ServerReportSoapProxy.OnSoapException(SoapException e)
       at Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.Internal.Soap.ReportingServices2005.Execution.RSExecutionConnection.ProxyMethodInvocation.Execute[TReturn](RSExecutionConnection connection, ProxyMethod`1 initialMethod, ProxyMethod`1 retryMethod)
       at Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.Internal.Soap.ReportingServices2005.Execution.RSExecutionConnection.LoadReport(String Report, String HistoryID)
       at Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ServerReport.EnsureExecutionSession()
       at Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ServerReport.SetParameters(IEnumerable`1 parameters)
       at Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.AdminConsole.SrsReporting.ReportViewerWindowsForms.SetParameterValues_DoWork(Object sender, DoWorkEventArgs e)
    SMSAdminUI.log shows this message:
[25, PID:3096][06/12/2014 11:24:05] :[fqdnofprimaryserver] : The request failed with HTTP status 503: Server Error.
Now, the reason I think this is a permissions issue is because srsrp.log on the Reporting Point server shows this:
(!) Error retrieving folders - [Login failed for user 'domain\reportingservercomputername$'.].
(I've removed the actual name here, obviously.)
I'm really puzzled about what's going on here, what is trying to authenticate with the SSRS server's machine credentials, and what for.  Looking in SQL Server Management Studio on the primary site server which hosts the SQL database, I can see that
the account has a login listed and it has its default schema listed as DBO.  On the SSRS server, in Reporting Services Configuration Manager, the Report Server Service Account is set to a dedicated domain user account.  The Current Report Server
Database Credential is set to my own Windows login using Current User - Integrated Security - I can't seem to get it to accept the dedicated user account.
Can anyone help me figure out what's gone wrong and how I fix it, please?  I'm by no means a SQL person, and I'm at my wit's end with this!
    Thanks,
    M

    The plot thickens.
    The SSRS server has these:
"The report server has detected a possible denial of service attack. The report server is dropping requests for service from the IP address 192.168.113.163" (this is the IP address of the primary site system, which hosts the SQL database)
    and then
"Report Server Windows Service (MSSQLSERVER) cannot connect to the report server database"
The primary site system, meanwhile, has got thousands of these:
"Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\SSRSSERVERNAME$'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: 192.168.113.164]" (that's the IP of the SSRS server)
The Windows firewall is off for both systems.  They're on an isolated test network.  I still don't understand where the setting is that tells it to make SQL queries using the SSRS server's machine account, rather than the dedicated service account
    I created.
Any more ideas?  Thanks for your help so far - I really appreciate it!

  • Custom SharePoint 2013 workflow activities in site template throw error on site creation

    Hi all,
I have created a number of custom activities for SharePoint 2013 Workflows and I am using them on an Office 365 environment. The custom activities are packaged as a sandbox solution and deployed on my Office 365 site. Everything works as expected.
I have now created a site with all the functionality I need, including some Site and List workflows - all of them containing my custom activities. I saved the site as a template - including content - and the process was completed successfully.
My problem is that when I try to create a site based on that template, I get the following error:
Microsoft.Workflow.Client.ActivityNotFoundException: The activity named 'WorkflowXaml_66b9230b_823e_4783_82b8_daf481237847' from scope '/spo/d42a4487-9465-4347-9f2c-a2718e92fc02/74d0f9e7-fb35-493d-86fb-ab7aa27da7e0/c2e1bf45-cf67-4e13-9755-421cf92395f8'
was not found. HTTP headers received from the server - ActivityId: 0997496a-5a15-4b83-82eb-727881eefa67. NodeId: . Scope: . Client ActivityId : c82f6e9c-9f8f-808b-7679-f2c0f92a339d. ---> System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error
After a number of trials and errors, I am certain that this relates to my custom activities. i have already tested all of the following scenarios:
Delete the workflow with the custom actions: Site is created successfully.
Create a new workflow with no custom actions and save the site as a template:
    Site is created successfully.
Save the site template including a workflow with my custom activities, but not including content:
Site is created successfully, but my workflow is not there.
Create a new custom workflow activities sandbox with one custom activity that just writes something to the history list - just to make sure that this is not related to any specific solution. Save the site as a template:
Site creation throws the same error.
Packaged my workflow (with my custom activities) as a wsp from SharePoint Designer and deployed it as a custom solution. Activated the feature in the target site. The workflow gets created and executing finally. Saved the site as template: Site
    creation throws the same error.
Same as above, but without activating the feature in the target site: Site created successfully, workflow works fine after I activate the feature in the new site.
My custom activities feature is always enabled in the site I save as template - in all of the above scenarios.
I have tested all of the above scenarios both on SharePoint 2013 on-premise and Office 365. There is
a forum post regarding some inconsistencies in the wsp file, but unfortunately this is not my case. Am I doing something wrong? Are custom 2013 workflow activities not supported in site templates - which would not actually make any sense, as it would "break"
    the fundamental concept of re-usability.
    Any ideas/feedback/guidance?
    Thanx in advance

    Hi,
I am facing the same issue. Kindly help me out if any of them have solved similar issue.
