Pre-Purchase Question - Deploying Crystal Report to SSRS Report Server

Our company has recently installed a SQL 2005 server for our accounting system.  I had intended going down the path of using SQL Reporting Services as our reporting tool and deploying them to the builtin Report Server.  However, I've been using Crystal Reports for years and find it much more user friendly for a non-programmer to use.  I can actually write a report in Crystal, SSRS took me 3 days to achieve very little, I believe it requires too much SQL reporting knowledge for a beginner.
After spending many hours trawling the net looking for a solution to this problem, I found that Crystal comes as part of Visual Studio.  However, I also believe the version of Visual Studio that comes with SQL2005 is the basic version, and I'd need the Pro version to get the Crystal add on.
To this end, I've downloaded the trial version of Crystal 2008 and installed it.  I find I can write a report in Crystal, and then I can manually add that report to a SSRS project. When I open the Crystal Report within Visual Studio I can see all the correct Crystal toolbars and menus etc, so it would appear that the installation of Crystal for Visual Studio has integrated properly.  I can then deploy that report to the Report server and see the report on the web page.  However clicking to open the report then opens the full Crystal Reports application, instead of just displaying the report in the web page.
I've been unsuccessful in finding a solution to the above deployment problem.  I'm seeking a solution so that my users can just see the report without Crystal itself opening up.  I've been advised that there is a Crystal Report Server that I can purchase, but I don't wish to go to that expense when we already have this functionality built into our SSRS server.
Can you please advise if it's possible to deploy the Crystal report to the SSRS Report Server and then open the report within the web page without opening the full Crystal app, and if so what steps I would need to take to implement this.
If this issue can be resolved, I'll be more than happy to purchase the full Crystal 2008 package and forget SSRS as a bad idea.
Sorry to be so long winded, I wanted to be clear what the issue is.  Any information /advice would be very much appreciated.

Hello Diane,
I would not know if Crystal Report can be used with SSRS but I know for sure that you can use the embedded Crystal Reports Version with comes with VS 2005 or VS 2008 to create reports and to display them in web and windows application.
We have lots of samples how to do this in our [dev community|https://boc.sdn.sap.com/].
Also, you can use [Crystal Reports 2008|https://boc.sdn.sap.com/developer/library/CR2008SDK] with MS SQL 2005.
Other products like Crystal Reports server can also use MS SQL 2005.
Please see our [supported platforms for CR 2008|http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000712280&_OBJECT=011000358700000675322008E] on windows.
Hope this helps

  • Create subscriptions for Powerview reports like SSRS reports in SharePoint 2010

    Hi,
I have created the power view reports in SharePoint 2010 and now I want to create an email subscription for Powerview reports like SSRS reports in SharePoint 2010. Is it possible? If not, is there any workaround?
    Thanks,

    Hi Suresh:
Unfortunately, you can't setup subscriptions in PowerView like you can on SSRS. I would suggest you to open up a connect item here and request for this feature - http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer

  • Project Server Performance report using SSRS - Report display issue

    Hi All,
We have developed and deployed a SSRS report in Project Server BI Center using performance dashboard, but half of the report only visible i.e. it is showing horizontal scroll bar at the bottom as below. I tried to change the web part width and height but
there is no difference. I also tried to change the performance point dashboard height and width but faced same issue.
    Thanks in advance, Arun

As Per me their is not way to deal this issue. When you use web part and deploy SSRS  RDL in project server horizontal bar display in the bottom if display area is not enough to display the data.
whatever height or width you choose in web part property it will come.
We have to live with this problem .

  • Pre-Purchase Question, please...

    Dear Forum:
I have all or most of the technical considerations answered, regarding my decision to purchase a new MacPro 2.8, 10 gig ram, three 750 HD running Logic8.
The one final and perhaps just as important question is this:
After viewing the MacPro and Logic forums here for awhile, the one thing that I don't see is official support.
I can spend a lot of money for the new system and appart from the actual Mac as a machine with 3 year support for the machine/OS issues, I can't call or write here for official support, like I could with another software company or can I?
I thing it would be necessary to have such access because we are customers and waiting around for another customer to perhaps unofficially give me thier inpression is better than nothing, but I could site the many issues reported here with various problems or hard-to-find answers regarding the use of just MacOS and its file structure, etc.
What do we have as customer support officially regarding Logic and MacPro working in tandem?
    Phil

    dear poster:
for every issue you can site that is found in a forum supporting issues with a program, hardware or the OS, i can only imagine there are 10 or more people not posting how well everything seems to be working. I use logic and fcs on my mac pro and have not yet had any problems.
as far as support for software, do you really want support from the company. personally, and in my experience, i would rather get community support from real users of the software that bank on experience, not scripts.
This goes for any software package. I'd rather have a professional that uses the program brainstorming on how to do something rather then listen to someone in a call center venturing a guess.
if it is an issue or defect, then you talk to apple through feedback to get it resolved.
from my experience, working with a mac pro and logic, i haven't had any problems. if i did, i would report them to apple.
but i go back, reading the few problems here in the forums compared to the number of users NOT posting here, seems to me like everything is in pretty good order.
Plus, if you purchase Logic Studio, i believe you get 90 days of support from apple. so if you are setting up a system, i think they have you covered from top to bottom with hardware and software support if you need it.

  • Apple TV - Pre-purchase questions

    Hi,
I am planning to buy the Apple TV. But before I make the purchase I would like to clarify a few of questions...
    1. Can it stream music from my iphone, ipod touch and itunes - like Airport Express? or Do I need to purchase Airport Express separately. I know I can use my ipod as a remote.
    2. Can I attach an external HDD to it?
    3. Can I add personal videos to it? of they have to be purchased from iTunes?
    4. Can it read and play non-iTunes stuff?
    5. Does it needs a constant connection with PC/Mac or can it store content and play without a computer?
    6.
I know these questions might sound stupid, but staff in Apple's Indian stores are not very savvy to answer everything... and I don't want to make a wrong purchase.

no, you can only stream from itunes
    2. Can I attach an external HDD to it?
    no
    3. Can I add personal videos to it? of they have to be purchased from iTunes?
you can use your own content as well as purchased content
    4. Can it read and play non-iTunes stuff?
yes, providing it's in the correct format for appletv
    5. Does it needs a constant connection with PC/Mac or can it store content and play without a computer?
you can sync content to the appletv so that you don't need the pc to be on.

  • IMac 27" pre-purchase questions

    Good Afternoon,
I am really close to ordering myself one of the new 27" iMacs but am struggling with the customisation options (who doesn't!)
This will be my first ever Apple Mac computer and I have tried to find answers to my questions elsewhere without much success.
For background info, I am not (and never will be) a professional photographer, videographer or music producer - I just want an iMac that will allow me to do all three tasks amazingly smoothly and maybe the odd bit of gaming - either using MAC software or PC software via Bootcamp or Parrallels 8.
So onto my first question - I already own an ICYDock MB559U3S-1SB Slim USB 3.0 & eSATA External HDD Enclosure and using a MB882SP-1S-1B 2.5" to 3.5" SATA SSD / Hard Drive Converter - I've fitted it with a Crucial 256Gb M4 SSD - leaving me feeling the cost of the 1TB Fusion Drive @ £200 may be unnecessary.
Will I be able to boot the new iMac from my external SSD?
If yes, what's the best way to connect it to the iMac - via USB3.0 cable or eSATA using something like the Lacie eSATA Hub http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?id=10574)
Assuming the iMac was booted from the ICYDock + SSD - would it be possible to (hot) unplug the 'boot' enclosure and insert a 'data' HDD enclosure without causing any problems whilst the iMac is on?
Would Bootcamp work from the ICYDock + SSD?
I have recently sold my Core i5 Windows PC to help fund the purchase of the iMac and to be fair, this Intel CPU handled everything I wanted to do on my PC with ease. It was fitted with 12Gb Corsair 1600MHz ram and an nVidia 660Ti 1596Mb PCI-e x16 graphics card. I'm therefore debating whether the i7 upgrade is actually going to provide me with a noticeable (+£160) performance boost. I will definitely be upgrading the memory to 32Gb myself and opting for the 680MX with 2GB DDR5 upgrade option.
       2. Would you recommend I go for the i7 upgrade or will the i5 turbo boosted to 3.6Ghz suffice?
I'm still not sure if Bootcamp/Parrallels gets to use 100% or 50% of system resources or whether it's a user configurable option within Mountain Lion?
Does Hyper-Threading help when using plugins in Logic Pro?
Lastly, when it comes to upgrading the memory in the new iMac 27" - can anyone confirm if this Corsair memory fits comfortably / works well?

Many thanks for your time and insight

I'll be mostly using it as my main computer for everyday tasks along with learning Logic Pro.
My son is currently studying Film and Photography at College so he will use it infrequently for catching up on his course work - he mostly uses Final Cut and Adobe Suite.
One other thing I forgot to mention is connectivity to an existing 5.1 speaker system - If I buy a Mini Jack (Toslink) to Optical Cable and plug it into the headphone jack on the rear - will it automatically output to 5 channels or will I just get 2 x Stereo output?
Apologies if these are simple questions its just I don't have access to or know anyone who owns a Mac.
I'll be looking to join a MUG nearby once I have my new machine - but not before as it would frustrate me more if I could not come home and try out some of the tips I hope to pick up

  • Yoga 2 13 (Not Pro) Pre-Purchase Questions

Yesterday I looked at the Yoga 2 13 Ultrabook (non-pro version), 4 GB RAM, I5 processor, 500 GB hard drive at a big box store. I am seriously considering this, but wonder about fan noise (under high load conditions) and any other possible issues that this computer may have. I am sensitive to fan noise, because I work, watch or listen in quiet conditions. I asked the salesperson if they have a quiet place that I could take the computer and the answer was "NO".
Does anyone have experience with this (or similar Yoga 2) computer and could comment on the fan noise/sound and any other issues that you have noticed, i.e. Wifi performance or simultaneous use of Wifi and Bluetooth?
    Thank you in advance!

Hey! thanks for the response. my biggest concern is:
1.) Battery life in different scenarios. For my current laptop when I take notes for class I usually turn off all wireless devices, dim the screen to the lowest, and switch on power saver. I also turn off processes that aren't being used.  Can you comment on the battery life and how long it lasts to your knowledge in different scenarios?
I found this thread on the yoga 2 pro battery life (which i'm sure you'll be able to relate with regarding tips to increase battery life for your yoga
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Yoga-2-Pro-Battery-Life/td-p/1272881/pag...
and I'm wondering what kind of battery life increases you could achieve by turning off  Lenovo's Smart Voice, Transitions, Picks, Motion Control, etc...
2.) i noticed that there are some concerns with the yoga 2 pro regarding wifi disconnection issues. have you experienced anything liek this?
3.) which hard drive did you end up choosing? I'm personally learning towards the hybrid hard drive but i'm worried that it will "lock up" everytime I move the laptop. of course i wouldn't be making sudden jerks or motions, but because it is a convertible, i'm wondering if switching between modes (tent, laptop, tablet) would trigger the hybrid HDD to lock up as a cautionary mechanism.
I checked out the laptop at best buy and i really really like it better than the yoga 2 pro, mostly because I like the smooth surface of the keyboard so much better than the rubbery texture. is there anything else you can comment on the laptop that you wish you could change / you knew before you bought it?
Wow that was a lot of questions. thanks for your help!

The dv4 series only has 1 hard drive bay, you cannot install a second drive.  If you want to have more than one hard drive, try the dv7 series

  • Some iPad pre-purchase questions

If you own an iPad 4 or an iPad mini, your insights are welcome.
    1. Can you play Flash videos on an iPad (or do you need to install Adobe Flash Player in order to do this)?
    2. Can you connect the iPad to a TV so you can view its content on the TV screen? If one has only a standard definition TV (no HDMI, only the standard video, L audio, and R audio ports), is there an adapter available to connect to the iPad's Lightning Port?
Likewise, can you connect it to an iMac so you can view its content on the iMac's monitor?
    3. Can you attach a keyboard to the iPad? Does it have to be via Bluetooth or is there a USB port for this?
    4. Can you set up a device lock on the iPad (a PIN or password that must be entered before its features and contents can be accessed)?
    5. Is the storage upgradeable via an SD card slot?
    6. Can you run Android apps on an iPad, or is Android strictly for cell phones and Google tablets?
    Thanks all.

    1. is the 4GB memory chip removable/are there extra slots for memory? (my iBook has one chip soldered in, and there was one slot open) ie. is it easy to add memory later on? Also, is it as easy as adding memory in the iBook?
There are two slots, and a machine bought with 4GB installed will have a 2GB module in each slot.
    2. Does an airport card come as part of the system? (when i bought the iBook, the airport card was an optional add-on) and if so, does that mean I can use the internet at any hot-spot if I am away from the house? (I've never had an airport card, so don't know how to use it)
Yes, an 802.11n Airport Extreme card is standard, and you'll be able to connect wherever an open wifi network is available.
    3. How much space does Snow Leopard take up? (this will help me determine if I need the 250 or 320)
    5GB.
    4. Can I buy Applecare later? (basically, extra memory and applecare would put this a bit out of my price target, so would consider adding later)
You can buy AppleCare anytime within a year of your purchase of the computer.
    5. Will older software work on Snow Leopard? I have a copy of MS Office for Mac that is fine for my needs, so don't really want to buy a new version if I don't have to.
    Yes, MS Office will work.
    6. What cable would I need to use my MacBook as a DVD player, and watch movies on my TV? (It's a Toshiba Regza LCD TV)
This adapter and a standard HDMI cable:

I'm interested in getting a C3 and have a question I haven't been able to find the answer to ?
Will it stream music via Bluetooth to my car deck or is the bluetooth connection phone only ?
    Thanks

    Hi
I would not waste your money on an Airport Express, i bought one recently and had nothing but problems with it dropping out for a few seconds when streaming airtunes. This is a known issue and there are lots of people having problems with this drop out issue and appears to be no fix for it,save your money and dont buy one

  • HDD pre-purchase question..

    Hiya guys,
Im about to purchase the MBP, and was curious as to which HD i should choose. Im going to upgrade to the 1GB DDR2, (not two 512's) and was chooseing between 100GB vs 120GB, and noticed their priced the same, the difference is 5400 to 7200RPM's respectively. Anyone care to give me some input..? Any that doesnt involve.."search the forums, you lazy **" will be appreciated. Thanks.
Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Well, it's all about your preference. The 7200 RPM drive is faster and should improve performance for apps that use the disk a lot (I really noticed when i went from 4200 -> 7200). However, if you have a LOT of data that you need with you on the machine at all time or if you do things that require tons of disk space (movie editing and such) then maybe you could benifit from the extra 20 gigs.
    -----=====Hearsay below====-----
Another thing to consider is how fast each build is going out. In recent readings I have seen people saying that apple is understocked on the 7200 RPM drives right now including one person mentioning that an Apple CSR said that 7200 RPM drives are understocked. Now, take that with a grain of salt as it is purely rumor at this point. But it's another thing to consider if you're wanting the machine to go out as soon as possible.

  • OSX Server - pre-purchase question

Hi, I was wondering if somebody could answer a quick question about the OSX Server for Mavericks -
We have a small business, 2 MBPs and 1 iMac - the iMac is used by multiple people, the laptops are not.  All comps have Mavericks.
We want to get something where we can have a shared calendar system, contacts, file share etc.
We don't have the money right now to buy a computer to use as the main server so I was wondering if we install OSX server on the iMac and use it as our server but still use the computer even though it's the server... and to build upon that question, and can you switch between users still while running the server?
    I hope that made sense.
    Thanks! Justin

You can upgrade any Mac to run OS X server (providing it meets requirements). Ideally you would dedicate a Mac to that task to avoid any conflicts but the 'server' will still run in the background when other users are logging in & out on that machine. The services also run when all users are logged out.
The reason I would use another Mac is because users may tweak settings or install updates that require a reboot which obviously effects all connected clients. It's best if they don't have the admin password for a server, but some tasks make it unavoidable.
The iMac also needs to be setup to not sleep and there is an option to 'dedicate resources to server' which basically means try to serve content over the tasks that a user is running. Also make sure you use ethernet for the iMac, wifi is not great for a server

  • Droid Razr Maxx HD pre-purchase question from a newbie

I'm planning to get a Droid Razr Maxx HD soon; it'll be my first Droid phone.  My question:
Is it possible to back up and/or synchronize the phone directly to a Windows PC?  By directly, I mean via USB cable connection?
I know it's possible to back up and synchronize through Google, or Verizon's Backup Assistant... but I'd rather not use either of these if possible.
Next question: is the Droid Razr Maxx HD's native contact database compatible with any of the standard PC database programs (e.g. MS Access, etc)?
    Thanks in advance!

I appreciate your interest in the awesome Droid Razr HD Tabonga! This android device is designed to backup and sync using Google, GMail or Backup Assistant. • A few pre-purchase questions

I am considering getting either a 13" or 15". The 13" would be perfect size wise for what I need, since I have an iMac as well. My three main concerns are how much noticeable difference is there between...
    1. 2.53GHz (13" max) vs. 2.8GHz (15"), my iMac is 2.66
    2. NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor (13" max) vs 9600M GT (15"), iMac is 9400M
    3. 5400-rpm hard drive (13" max) vs 7200-rpm (15"), iMac is 7200
I will be upgrading to 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB on my own since I can get it for $200+ cheaper.
I mainly will be using my mb pro as I do my iMac, for photo editing (Lightroom2, PShop4, etc), as well as video production stuff (iMovie '09).
    Thanks for any input...

JP996 wrote:> I mainly will be using my mb pro as I do my iMac, for photo editing (Lightroom2, PShop4, etc), as well as video production stuff (iMovie '09)...
The benefits of additional screen real estate for graphics are HUGE, so for your listed uses I don't know anything that would be perfect about a 13" display with its extraordinarily limited screen real estate, reduced pixel count, and glossy-only display. The 13" is cute for sure, and cheaper, and nice on an airplane IF one is not doing graphics work (and spends compelling amounts of time in economy airline seating), but for real graphics work of any kind (or even spreadsheets) it is much less adequate than the 15" or 17" choices.
Once you own a 15" or 17" MBP the iMac has zero utility; an iMac is just a desktop-bound laptop with a larger display. I would sell the iMac, buy a 17" MBP and add EC/34 SSD, external FW800 hard drives, and an external monitor. Second choice is a 15" MBP without SSD. The 13" is not even an option IMO.

  • Decklink SP pre-purchase questions!

    Hello,
I am in need of a hardware solution for my FCP HD-based documentary. This is a VERY big project and lately we've had dropped frames and long render times as a result. We want a more stable solution, primarily for playback to an external monitor and for layoffs.
We are running on a Dual-2 GHz G5, 2 GB RAM, OS 10.4.2, QT 7.0.2, Final Cut HD (not version 5). Our project is strictly SD- all footage was shot on DVCam.
We have already done all of our video capture via firewire and don't intend to do this again. We would use the Decklink SP card for playback and RT effect support only.
Will having a Decklink SP speed up overall performance of our system?
Will it decrease render time? (We have hundreds of subtitles in the film. Eventually, we will do a color correct using FCP.)
Will it eliminate instances of dropped frames during playback of long sequences? (Timelines over an hour-and-a-half.)
How does it enhance RT effect playback?
How else would this card help?
I am new to the world of hardware solutions and am chomping at the bit for answers that will convince me to buy this card.
    THANK YOU for your help!
    Peace,
    JR

    Shane,
If you bave betasp footag that you captured with an analogue converter, >>you compressed it into the DV colorspace (4:1:1) 5:1 compression. If you >>captured 8-bit using the decklink card, you've greatly improved your >>image. But if you captured DV via firewire, you gain nothing outputting via >>the decklink.
We have captured everything via Firewire from DVCam. There is no BetaSP or DBeta in our project (except at the end when mastering of course).
Based on your response, DV footage will look like DV footage, whether it's played out of the DeckLink card or via Firewire. Is it worth upgrading to the DeckLink for the sake of the Component output? Right now we only play out to the broadcast monitor for layoffs and screenings. I'm looking for a solution that is more permanent, without the need for a deck or camera to pass through. (I assume the Component output would also yield more accurate color for the eventual online.)
It sounds like your issue is with either your drives or something else. How >>much RAM do you have? Are you using external or SECONDARY internal >>drives to capture to? How are they formatted? Do you have Norton or Virex >>installed?
We have been using 2 GB of RAM. I just bought an extra 1 GB today, yet to be installed.
We're editing using four Lacie fw-800 drives; two are connected to a fw-800 card and two to the built in port. They are all formatted as Extended, not journalled.
We don't have Norton or Virex installed.
Shane, thanks again for your terrific answers. Truly appreciate your time!
    Peace,
    JR
