Pre Upgrade Project details Required

Hi Experts,
Could anyone please explain in detail with sufficient links/materials as to what kind of a role does an Abapper Play in Pre Upgrade Project.
What kind of Problems one can face and solutions to it if possible.
Thanks in Advance.

Hi Ullas,
please check this link
abaper role in Upgradation project
SAP Upgrade project
Regarding the Steps involved in Upgrade Project
First it will be to find objects whcih are impacted by upgrade. Now most of the solution providers have tools to do this work automatically with less human involvement. These tools give you a list of custom developments that will be impacted by upgrade which need correction in higher version. Each object in the list will be distributed to a person in team for fix. It is the responsibity of the Abaper to find out the error and fix the error in a given program and make it error free. This is checked by testing the object after the correction is completed. For exapmle a screen number has changed in higher version for a particular transaction. This implies a correction to all custom programs where this screen is used in BDC. Another example may be an obsolete function module which is not available in higher version and it is the responsibility of Abaper to find out suitable replacement for this.
But prior to this activity there is one more activity. If there are any changes to standard SAP developments like user exits or changes to standard code or changes to data dictionary, then they will not be reflected automatically after upgrade. There are transaction SPAU for workbench objects and SPDD for data dictionary objects. Abaper has to analyse the changed done to standard programs and dictionary objects and has to decide whther these are required in higher version. If they are required then correct them through these transaction codes.
There is a document given by SAP on roles played by different people in an upgrade project. I suggest you to read that.
Best regards,
raam

  • Upgradation project details in technical

    Hi,
I need the brief details regarding upgradation project i.e. from one version to another version. Please provide the Technical (ABAP) details...
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Kittu.

    hi Kishore,
Upgrading SAP is something that all companies have to face on a periodic basis.
In a technical upgrade, you merely upgrade the SAP system and adjust any existing userexits and configuration only as necessary (e.g.  the introduction of Lean WM - warehouse management - gave Business Sponsors the choice to implement Lean WM with it's relatively minor changes or use the old configuration without any negative impact).
The objects that are needed to be upgraded are:
    Includes
    Function Groups / Function Modules
    Programs / Reports
    OSS Notes
    SAP Repository Objects
    SAP Data Dictionary Objects
    Domains, Data Elements
    Tables, Structures and Views
    Module Pools, Sub Routine pools
    BDC Programs
    Print Programs
    SAP Scripts, Screens
    User Exits

  • 11i Upgrade - Projects Pre-Upgrade steps

We are upgrading from 10.7SC to 11i (11.5.2) and in running several of the Category 2 pre-upgrade steps, we have found that only really old projects show up as exceptions that should be "fixed" prior to the upgrade.
These projects are now closed and the revenue/invoices etc. are for prior fiscal years. We will probably get accounting errors (from flexfield/acct combinations that have been disabled) if we try to process the old transactions. We are also not sure that we want to write revenue events or create changes for fiscal years already closed.
Has anyone else seen this? How did you handle it -- did you reopen projects, re-enable accounts and process the exceptions noted by the scripts? Will upgrade FAIL because of the presence of these exceptions?
Any input you can provide would be helpful.
    Thanks in advance,
    Maria

  • Upgrade steps Details for 9.2.0.8 to 11.2.0.3 Database

    Support,
We have one requirement from our client like "Upgrade the Database from 9.2.0.8 to 11.2.0.3". They are asking only the DB upgrade except Application.
Our Current Database is running in Solaris OS and DB is an 9.2.0.8 and Application is an 11.5.10.2.
I am going to follow the below documents for the Database Upgrade process using DBUA for First Iteration,
Interoperability Notes Oracle EBS 11i with Oracle Database 11gR2 (11.2.0.3) (Doc ID 1585577.1)
Interoperability Notes Oracle EBS 11i with Oracle Database 11gR2 (11.2.0) (Doc ID 881505.1)
In the above documents they mentioned the steps related to the 11g new home installation and upgrade process but before starting the process what are all the things i have to check it in my current Database and Applications.
Because i have clear idea on what we have to do in the new Oracle Home 11g and the Upgrade process but still have some confusion on the Pre-Upgrade Steps in current database.
Kindly suggest me what are the details i have to collect and check in my Current Database or provide any proper Oracle documents for the Database Pre-Upgrade Process.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vijay.

    Vijay,
We would suggest you advice your customer to upgrade to 11.2.0.4 instead on 11.2.0.3

    Hello Smriti,
Exploding a BOM means to display all the components and sub-components for a BOM in a particular transaction (eg) VA01,CO01,ME22N etc..
You can use the SAP FM's depend on the Functionality:
    CS_BOM_EXPLOSION               General BOM explosion
CS_BOM_EXPLOSION_EQUI          BOM explosion - initial screen: equipment
CS_BOM_EXPLOSION_MAT           BOM explosion (old version); as of 3.0, use CS_BOM_EXPL_MAT_V2
    CS_BOM_EXPL_EQU_V2             BOM explosion for equipment
    CS_BOM_EXPL_KND_V1             BOM explosion for material
    CS_BOM_EXPL_MAT_V2             BOM explosion for material
    CS_BOM_EXPL_PSP_V1
CS_BOM_EXPL_TPL_V1             BOM explosion for functional location
    CSS7                           Explode BOM (Document)
    CS_BOM_EXPL_DOC_V1             BOM explosion: document sub-assemblies
CS_BOM_EXPL_GNRL2_V1           General BOM explosion: document sub-assemblies
    CSSO
    CS_SO_MODE_BOM_EXPLOSION
As per Garet in response to your question better talk to the Functional team to get the better underatanding for your requirement.

  • Portal Upgrade Project Duration

I am in the middle of providing an estimate for the portal upgrade project.
My portal landscape has 3 environments: Dev, QA and Prod and KM/Trex is used but we are not using Collaboration/Unification.
I know this question is not easy to answer, because it depends on so many factors, but usually there are statistics around average duration of R/3 upgrade based on sampling of upgrade projects that SAP keeps.
So is SAP maintaining such statistics and are they available?
If they are not available, based on your upgrade experiences, what is the high level estimate of an average duration of a portal upgrade project going from EP5.0 SP5 Win/SQL to NW04 Unix/Oracle?
Thanks in advance for any insights you might share with me.

It depends on your landscape configuration especially if it comes to migrating KMC. Basically, you would go through three stages: KMC migration tool, EP migration tool, manual post migration steps.
The first step depends on the amount of content in KMC and on the bandwidth of the data path from the source to the target db (disk and network i/o). I've seen fast infrastructures moving more than 20gb per hour and slow test system with source and target db on the same machine with a slow disk running at less then 500mb per hour.
The second step, the EP migration tool usually completes in less than 4 hours, sometime much faster.
Going through the manual post migration steps depends on various things, mostly on familiarity with the system's administration; usually it takes less than a day.
What I would suggest is a 'test' migration with data from your production system, for example a copy restored from the latest backup. On less powerfull test system hardware that gives a good upper boundary for running the tools without causing any productive downtime.
    Two additional remarks:
    1) you might want to consider migrating to SP14 directly; there will be no further fixes for SR1. And upgrading from
SR1 to SP13 or SP14 after the migration adds to the production downtime.
    2) make sure that the source system is at the minimum required patch level; detailed info on this is to be found in the migration guides.

    Hi,
As an XI Developer one has the following responsibilities
SLD developement is depends upon the Organization.
    1)  Developing Interface Objects
    2) Developing maping objects
    3) Developing Config objects like Creation of Communication channels , Sender and Receiver agreemnets, Interface data and    Receiver  data.
In Addition to this he has to check whether the files are correctly picking and the files are correctly placing in the Target.
Any Mapping related error means he has to look into those
what are the responsibilities of an XI Developer?
    A) Steps are as follows.
    1) Receives functional specs.
    2) Understand the business requirements.
    3) Check whether are the required information is provided in Functional specs or not information like, source sturucutre, target strucutre,Transformation rule, test files, validation rules, error handling, data size etc.
    4) Raise issue log if there are issues and resolve it with functional team.
    5) Start building or designing the tech specs with all the required details like IR and ID part.
    6) Develop the object as per the design.
    7) Follow the naming convention as per the doc.
    8) Test the developed object with test cases and prepare UTC.
    9) Then review will happen with other team members.

  • New Development project  in the middle of  ECC EHP7 upgrade project

    Hi All,
We are performing ECC EHP7 upgrade project in our project system landscape and i have already started Dev system upgrade.Suddenly our development team wants to perform new project  which required to install add-on product from third party application. Installing new add-on will require us to regenerate stack.xml file right? if that is the case  do we need to perform re upgrade to Dev right?. As per my knowledge this is not recommended to perform parallel project with upgrade project.
Is there any  best practice or recommended method to perform multiple projects with upgrade project at the same time.
    Thanks,
    Raghu

    Hi Raghu,
First here i would like to suggest you & your development team i.e during an upgrade project dual maintenance is required as per SUM guide,as per SUM guide you need to maintain parallel systems to perform regular activities, for same you could refer SUM guides and follow the standard procedures.
Installing new add-on will require us to regenerate stack.xml file right?
Yes you need to regenerate the stack.xml file .
if that is the case  do we need to perform re upgrade to Dev right?
If you are under upgrade phase no need to perform re upgrade, required add on can be installed after completion of an upgrade as per availability for EHP7.
Try to avoid perform multiple projects with upgrade project .

    Gaurav

  • Project Server 2010 - Unable to open project, no valid Project Detail Page could be found for the project error

I have a workflow being deployed for the first time on a farm. When I create a project with an EPT connected to the workflow it runs and can enter the required field in a PDP.  Then I Submit the workflow to go to the next stage and I get the "Unable

Any ideas on why the workflow cannot see the PDPs?  Is there a farm permissions that I am missing?  Thanks!

  • Project Server 2010 Webpart for Project Detail Pages

    Hello,
I do have a requirement where I need to develop a Project Server Web Part to show some calculated project information based on some business rule from Reporting database.
That webpart I have to add in Project Detail Pages to show calculated project information for the Project I have selected/clicked from Project Center.
So please tell me how can I link my webpart with ProjUID in URL like "PWA/Project%20Detail%20Pages/ProposalStageStatus.aspx?ProjUid=2b24d36b-7796-4789-ada3-d895d218fc14"
So that it shows data corresponding to opened project in Project Server.
Thanks and let me know in case have any doubts in understanding the requirement.

    Hi YLee_1980,
If I understand your requirement correctly then you can use ProjUID querystring paramater to get specific ProjectUID like below
     HttpContext.Current.Request.QueryString["ProjUid"];
Then after getting ProjectUID you can use it anywhere in your SQL query, PSI method calling etc etc.
Also you can look into PS 2010 Solution Starter
custom solutions Kit to enhance your knowledge on PS 2010 development. That would a great starting point.
Thanks much hope this will help

  • Possible to access existing PrE 8 projects with new full PrE 10 install?

    Greetings,
The functionality of my PrE 8 has deteriorated to the point it where it will barely run without crashing. When I first started using it last spring, it never crashed but now crashes repeatedly, usually at the end of a few hours of work (auto save every 5 minutes but somehow that doesn't work either). I suspect memory leaks (low resources-how can this program need 3 or 4 GB to run?) amongst many other problems. I have all updates and a video driver that Sony VAIO says is current.
I have numerous projects that I really need to complete so rather than spend countless hours chasing down all the possible fixes, I'm just going to surrender, give Adobe the ransome, and get PrE 10 and hope it's better, which seems doubtful.
I got my computer used with PrE 8 already installed but have no disks or serial number so that seems to preclude upgrading. After searching, it looks like not a problem to install a new full PrE 10 alongside my existing PrE 8 but I'm still unclear on if I will be able to access any of my projects in progress with PrE 8. Is there a way to save them or export them? Is the 64 bit PrE 10 going to be incompatible with my 32 bit PrE 8 projects?
If I won't be able to somehow access my exising projects and have to start over, that will be a big deterrent to getting PrE 10. I really think the 64 bit PrE 10 will make more efficient use of my system resources, but if I'm going to have to start over, I think the 32 bit Sony Movie Sudio would probably run better on this computer or maybe even the Cyberlink 64 bit will be better.
I have a Canon Vixia HF S20 AVCHD which records mt2s files and I want to shoot in 24fps. I want to export to Blu-ray and DVD. My computer is a Sony VAIO F13 series with an I7 quad core, 6 GB built-in, 500GB drive, Windows 7 Home Premium.
Thanks in advance and any info is appreciated.

The older Projects may, or may not Open in PrE 10. Much will depend on the complexity of the Projects, themselves. Only a test of the Projects will tell you whether they Open fine, with no problems.
I would work from Copies of the PREL files, just to make sure that the earlier versions' PREL's are safe.
Now, if you are having problems with PrE 8, it could well be that you will have the same issues with PrE 10, though most users DO find PrE 10 to be more stable, and especially than PrE 8, which was not a "revered" version.
This ARTICLE might be useful in helping sort out the problems with PrE 8, and would also be worthwhile keeping around, just in case you also encounter issues with it. That article starts with a checklist of things to get PrE to work best, then goes into OS and system tuneup tips, and finally lists many links for troubleshooting, working up in "degree of difficulty."
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Oracle Upgrade --  Pre-Upgrade 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.1

    Hello,
I want to do an Oracle Upgrade to version 11.2g!
At this point I did some things (in Windows Server 2003 X64):
    1-) Install Oracle 10.2.0.1 (DVD Media);
    2-) Installation of Oracle patchset 10.2.0.4 (note 871735);
    3-) Installation of interim / last generics patch (note 1137346);
4-) Installation of SAP ECC 6.0 SR3 by SAPInst
5-) After SAP installation I did all the corrections in Oracle parameters as it mentioned in note 830576.
As you see above, all the SAP system was well installed!
But now I want to do the Oracle Upgrade process to the last version, Oracle DB 11.2g  (11.2.0.1)... and so I´m following the Upgrade guide "Upgrade to Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2) Windows.pdf" with some SAP notes for Upgrade process.
So I´m at this point in planning chapter where is recommended to check so things in actual database, one of this checks are running some SQL-scripts to perform an Oracle database upgrade with DBUA to release 11.2 (as mentioned in note 1431793 - Oracle 11.2.0: Upgrade Scripts)
I ran two Pre-Scripts, the @pre_upgrade_status.sql and @pre_upgrade_tasks.sql but both outputs showed some warnings and they are worrying me... so what I ask to you is some kind of help in analyse of them and tell me if this issues are relevant for the upgrading process and if so, what you recommend me to do to correct their!
Next I will post here this two log scripts... they are long!!!

    Hello,
So to confirm you want to know a project custom field value for a previous version of a project? You could potentially access this information from the Archive store using the PSI Read Project method and specifying the archive store:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg209668(v=office.14).aspx and use the custom field table:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/websvcproject.projectdataset.projectcustomfields_di_pj14mref(v=office.14).aspx
Or alternatively you could look at doing snapshots, the simplest way in via a SQL job:
    https://pwmather.wordpress.com/2012/04/27/projectserver-data-snapshot-for-reporting-ps2010-msproject-sp2010-excel-ssrs-sql/
Snapshots could also be event driven, run from SharePoint timer service etc.
