Precautions upgrading from MX2004 to DW8
Hiya there
Can someone point me to a set of guidelines that are best for
upgrading from
DWMX 2004 to DW8
i.e. backing up site definitions and folders, telling
DWMX2004 that I'm
changing to a new version etc etc?
Thanks
Jos
If you want to back up site definitions, you can either use
the DW SITE |
Export option to export them, or this excellent utility -
http://mm-exporter.joexx.de
Other than that, leave DMX2004 installed, and install DW8 -
all sites and
extensions should migrate. When you have verified that that
is the case,
then you can uninstall DMX2004.

I have currently my work copy of CS3 Web Premium installed on
my home office
computer, as I work from both. I am planning to leave my
employer and have
bought my own license of CS4 Design Premium (upgrading from
my own MX2004
Studio). I'll remove CS3 and then install CS4. I have the
license key of
MX2004 Studio, will that be enough to install CS4 as an
upgrade? I really
don't want to have to install the whole MX suite just for
that reason. Also,
is there a special uninstall file available that removes CS3
completely?
Thanks for any help with this.
M..No you don't have to re-install the old version to install
the new. Entering your serial number will suffice.
As far as a special tool, there is a CS3 Clean tool (quick
Google search for "CS3 Clean" will bring you right to it), but I
wouldn't recommend it if the uninstaller works. -
I bought Master Suite CS5 a while ago and love/use many parts of it but have not yet switched to the CS5 replacement for Dreamweaver MX2004 and this is despite that older Dreamweaver tool being probably the software product I use most often and on most days for event updates etc.
As it really is time I switched and have some time now I can use to retrain myself a first numpties question - is there a way you can configure the screen layout etc., to look like, or even vagulely like, the old easy to use MX2004 screen?
I ask as I find the new (to me) screen layout in the CS5 version clunky with few of the tools I use most conveniently visible unlike, for example the excellent set in Photoshop. I am sure this question would have been asked when Adobe took over from Macromedia but I must be putting the wrong words into search as I can't find any answers on easing the path from Macromedia style Dreamweaver to the new Adobe screen layouts. The Adobe training videos don't seem to help much on this topic either but I am rewatching them again.First of all, I think you'll get used to it. I went from MX to CS3 and it really didn't feel all that different. I generally work in "split" view. CS 5, I think, introduced an horizontal "split" view and I prefer the vertical. Under "View" you can choose a vertical split.
One thing I didn't like in the upgrade from CS3 to CS5.5 (which I use presently) is the panels for CSS styles, Files, Assets and so on are all the way over to the right hand side of one's screen. There's no real way to fix that, so I have to hide the application a little more to get to certain things. But those panels disappear when the focus is off Dreamweaver and on to something else.
Fact is, HTML and CSS code is what it is and you should be mainly focused on that. I do like hte Live View mode and the Live Code mode of CS 5.5—it is a quicker way to check my work than opening a browser (but I still do final checks in browsers). So the learning curve is not extreme.
One thing you should do is hang on to MX. MX will do inline coding styles for HTML emails and CS 3 and above won't, preferring either an inline style sheet or a separate style sheet over the inline styles you would need for an email. -
Hi
I was hoping my dw4 websites would just migrate to DW8 but of
course it doesn't seem that easy.
The new programme looks SO different.
Any tips on getting the sites operational in DW8?
Thanks
Emma> doesn't seem that easy.
The site definitions should have migrated - did they?
> The new programme looks SO different.
Yes - it is.
> Any tips on getting the sites operational in DW8?
They should be operational out of the block. What problems
are you having?
One big tip would be to learn some HTML and CSS - that will
make your life
with DW8 (which is much more insistent on well formed HTML
than was DW4)
much easier.

Moving from MX2004 to CS5 -can't update library items
I have upgraded from MX2004 to CS5 and at the same time upgraded laptops from a macbook to a macbook pro. Not sure how it happened, but the source for the two local views is diferent now (both files have the same name, but one is in lower case -so I know they are different). I think I 'loaded' the new one from a memory stick where I stored the site in case anything went wrong, but had named it differently.
This is causing me real problems trying to update library items on the new laptop, as I can only seem to do it on the old one (which means moving the whole site backwards and forwards).
On the old laptop I am asked if I want to update all files, but on the new one I get the message:
"Making this change would require chaging code that is locked by a template or a translator. The change will be discarded"
How can right things or synchronize them so that I can ditch the MX2004 and old laptop?Perhaps I have not been specific enough, it's not a single file, its the whole site that is drawn from different sources on the two different laptops.
Apologies if I have given an answer to the wrong question Murray and caused you to shout 'doh!' -
Hi,
I took a big leap and upgraded from DW8 to DWCS6. Also went from MAC G5 PPC to IMAC with Mavericks.
I transferred my site files over and set up a new site in DWCS6, pointing to the site files. No problem.
However, I have run across two problems since then.
1. If I open a file on the local site on the computer, it does not see the images folder. I can navigate to it and re-associate the image, but it is not automatic. I did nothing to change the structure of the local site, except move it as a whole from one computer to another. If I add an additional ../ to the SRC, then it comes up. If I then upload that page, the link still exists correctly. I don't understand the problem at all...please help!
2. When I want to upload a local file using the put command, I get an error message, something like it cannot create a certain folder in which the file exists. However, that file already exists on the remote end. I can drag the file over and then there is no problem.
I believe I can see that the problem is the same with both uploading and downloading, but can't quite figure out how to fix it. Any ideas? I figure this is probably common, or at least, I hope it is!
Thanks in advance,
LindaWow, thanks so much for the super-fast reply:
I will attach three images showing what you asked for. When I went back to check I noticed that the local files actually do seem to link up the images...it is only when I bring them down (get them) from the remote site that there is a problem...I'm embarrassed to say that I don't remember it being this way earlier, but since I have done nothing to 'heal it' it might have been....only thing I did do was piece by piece link them up on the pages on which I was working.
Anyway, here are the screenshots. If you need more, or if they are unclear, let me know.
I really appreciate your help. If you write back and I do not answer immediately, it is only because I am out for a while.

3PETG447 Table and runtime object "/SSF/PTAB" exist without DDIC reference ("Transp. table")
Long text:
Cause
A runtime object was found for a table which is unknown in the ABAP Dictionary. The table contains data, which is why, as a precaution, the runtime object was not deleted. Since there is a runtime object, this means the table was once create in the ABAP Dictionary. The fact that the table can no longer be found in the ABAP Dictionary could be due to the following reasons:
It is a customer-specific table which was created when the correction system was switched off.
Depending on the history of your system, there may also be SAP tables which were not deleted completely, or for which only the runtime object was delivered without the related definition in the ABAP Dictionary

What to do
RESET N1
Customer-specific tables
If it is a customer-specific table, and you still need the data, try to restore the table in the ABAP Dictionary.
Note the specified table type
when you do this (transparent table, pool table, and so on). The table may still, for example, be contained in the version database.
You can access version management through the menu "Utilities" in the in the ABAP Dictionary (transaction SE11).
You may also still have a copy of the system that still contains the table definition. You can also display the runtime object and create the table according to the field names, types and lengths specified in the definition. You can display the runtime object in the menu "Extras" of the database utility (transaction SE14).

Will an upgrade from Tiger 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard make me loose programs?
I have an old 2007 Macbook pro and I need to upgrade from Tiger OS 10.4.11 to either leopard of Snow leopard because my charger broke and the new charger does not work probably in the older laptops unless you firmare update (which I cannot do as my OS is less than 10.5)
My question is: Will upgrading wipe all the files and programs from my laptop? I have programs that I no longer have the discs, to install them with, for so if they get wiped I will be unable to get them back and they are programs I need on a daily basis. I was just wondering what upgrading from tiger to leopard will actually involve? Will I loose all files/programs so it would be like starting from scratch with a new computer? Or would it not change these things?Buy an external drive (or two).
Clone your system before you begin.
Repair the drive while at it, Apple First Aid and another 3rd party program.
Make sure you can boot from your backup clone.
Apple Restore is part of Disk Utilty or there is SuperDuper, or Carbon Copy Cloner.
Me, I would take the above precautions. Then I would format your drive with SL DVD, and perform and clean install. Do all the updates. Then use Setup or Migration Assistant.
Look for threads, there seems to be 4-5 a week at least on Migrating, going from 10.4 or from PPC to 10.6.
That is the safest. In theory, and YMMV, you could try upgrade in place, but not without backups, and repairing your drive with SL DVD first. -
Upgrading from DW 6.0 to 8.0
Are there any know issues when upgrading from DW version 6.0
to 8.0?
Will the page functionality that was created in version 6.0
still be functional in 8.0? (for example the use of includes and/or
CSS?)
Are the navigation and use of the product basically the same
or is there a steep learning curve between version 6.0 and 8.0?
Is there much bang for the buck, is it worth upgrading?> Are there any know issues when upgrading from DW version
6.0 to 8.0?
Other than the differences in the programs themselves, no.
But before
upgrading you should definitely get this utility and backup
your site
definitions -

> Will the page functionality that was created in version

Sure. DW8 is MUCH MUCH better than DW6 was with both
rendering and managing
your CSS.
> Are the navigation and use of the product basically the
same or is there a
> steep learning curve between version 6.0 and 8.0?
The two are largely similar. If you were comfortable with
DW6, it'll only
take a little while to acclimate to the changes.
> Is there much bang for the buck, is it worth upgrading?
There is, in my opinion, but get the trial and see for
yourself.

Advice on upgrade from Ecc 6.0 (No enhancement pack) to EHP 7
Dear Friends
Our customer is thinking about upgrading from ECC 6.0 (No enhancement) to EhP 7. Can anybody tell me what are major efforts, steps and approx. time and precautions to consider in this case.
thanks a lot in advance
VictorHi,
SAP Library for SAP ERP on the SAP Help Portal at http://help.sap.com/erp. Choose a
release and then choose Application Help. In SAP Library, choose Business Functions (SAP
enhancement package 7 for SAP ERP 6.0) -> Business Functions in SAP ERP -> Enterprise
Business Functions -> Accounting -> Financial Supply Chain Management -> SAP Treasury
and Risk Management.
Hope this helps.

Upgrading from BW 3.0B to BW 7.0 (Netweaver 2004s)
Introduction
This Wiki contains my teams experiences in upgrading our Business Warehouse System from 3.0B to BW 7.0.
Hopefully it will be useful to anyone else who's about to embark on this. If there's anything I've missed or got wrong, then please feel free to edit it or contact me and I'll try to explain.
Rob Moore - BW Manager, Edwards Limited.
Overview & Scope
This was to be a technical upgrade of BW only. The new BW 7.0 web functionality & tool suite which requires the Java stack rather than the ABAP stack was out of scope. We had heard that the latter was where most of the problems with the upgrade lay. Our plan is to wait for this part of BW 7.0 to become more stable. Also it has a big front end change and the business didn't have sufficient resource to cope with that much change management.
Drivers
3.0B at the end of its maintenance
Opportunities to do better reporting
Options to utilise BI Accelerator
Environment
Our R/3 system was at 4.6C and was not going to be upgraded. We have APO at version SCM4.0.
Our BW system is approximately 300 GB, with 125 global users. It was at version 3.0B SP 18
We have Development, Acceptance and Production environments.
Resource & Timescales
The Project ran for 3.5 months from Feb to May 2007. We used the following resources. The percentages are the approx. amount of their time spent on the project.
Project Manager * 1 70%
BW technical team * 3 50%
ABAP coder * 1 10%
SAP Systems Development expert * 1 20%
Basis * 1 25%
High Level Plan
These are the basic areas. We planned to complete this process for each environment in turn, learning our lessons at each stage and incorporating into revised plans for the next environment. However we did the Support Packs and Plug-Ins in quick succession on all environments to keep our full transport path open as long as possible.
Upgrade BW to the minimum support pack.
Install R/3 Plug-ins PI 2004.1
Run PREPARE on BW
Dbase upgrades (Database & SAP Kernel upgrade)
System Upgrade
Summary Task List
This list contains all the basic tasks that we performed. A more detailed check list is shown below for each of the headings.
#Support Pack Hike
We moved only to the minimum acceptable SP as this seemed most likely to avoid any problems with the 3.0B system prior to the upgrade.

Lessons Learnt
Testing is all! We picked up on a lot of issues, but would have picked up more if we'd had a full copy of our production environment to test over.
Our approach of doing a full upgrade on each environment before moving to the next one paid dividends in giving us experience of issues and timescales.
Write everything down as you go, so that by the time you get to upgrading production you've got a complete list of what to do.
We succeeded because we had people on our team who had enough experience in Basis and BW to be able to troubleshoot issues and not just read the manual.
The SAP upgrade guide is pretty good, if you can understand what they're on about...
Remember the users! The fact that the loads have been successful doesn't count for anything unless the users can see the data in Excel! There's a tendency to get caught up in the technology and forget that it's all just a means to an end.
Issues & Fixes
I've listed the main issues that we encountered. I have not listed the various issues where Transfer rules became Inactive, DataSources needed replication or we had to reinstall some minor Business Content.
Unfixed Issues
We could not fix these issues, seems like SP 13 will help.
Cant delete individual request from ODS
After PREPARE had been run, if we had a load failure and needed to set an ODS request to Red and delete it, we found that we could not. We raised an OSS with SAP but although they tried hard we couldn't get round it. We reset the PREPARE and still the issue persisted. Ultimately we just lived with the problem for a week until we upgraded production.
Error when trying to save query to itself
Any query with a re-usable structure cannot be saved (more thsan once!)
OSS 975510 fixed the issue in Dev and Acc, but NOT in Production! SP 13 may solve this once it's released.
Warning message when running some queries post-upgrade
Time of calculation Before Aggregation is obsolete. Not a big issue so we haven't fixed this one yet!
Process Chain Scheduling Timing error
Process chains get scheduled for the NEXT day sometimes and has to be manually reset.
See OSS 1016317. Implement SP13 to fix this. We will live with it for now .
Fixed Issues
Duplicate Fiscal Period values in Query
If you open up a drop down box ("Select Filter Value") for Fiscal Year/Period to filter your query, you are presented with duplicate entries for Month & Year.
Due to Fiscal Year Period InfoObject taking data from Master Data not InfoProvider. Thus it picks up all available periods not just Z2.
Auto-Emails being delayed
Emails coming from BW from process chains are delayed 2 hours on BW before being released
Due to userids that send these emails (e.g. ALEREMOTE) being registered on a diffferent timeazone (i.e. CET) from the BW system (i.e. GMT)
Pgm_Not_Found short dump
Whenever a query is run via RRMX or RSRT
Call transaction RS_PERS_ACTIVATE to Activate History and Personalisation
Characteristics not found
When running a query the warning message Characteristic does not exist is displayed for the following: 0TCAACTVT, 0TCAIPROV, 0TCAVALID
We activated the three characteristics listed and the warnings stopped. NO need to make them authorisation-relevant at this stage.(also did 0TCAKYFNM)
System generated Z pgms have disappeared
Post-upgrade the system Z-pgms ceased to exist
Discovered in Development so we compared with pre-upgraded Production and then recreated them or copying them from production.
Conversion issues with some Infoobjects
Data fails to Activate in the ODS targets
For the InfoObjects in question, set the flag so as not to convert the Internal values for these infoobjects
InfoObject has Conversion routine that fails, causing load to fail
The routine prefixes numeric PO Numbers with 0s. SD loads were failing as it was not able to convert the numbers. Presumably the cause of the failure was the running of the Pre-Prepare RSMCNVEXIT pgm.
Check the Tick box in the Update rule to do the conversion prior to loading rather than the other way round.
Requests fail to Activate on numeric data
Request loads OK (different from above issue) but fails to Activate
Forced conversion within the update rules using Alpha routine. Deleted Request and reloaded from PSA.
Database views missing after pre-PREPARE work
Views got deleted from database, although not from data dictionary
Recreated the views in the database using SE14.
Workbook role assignations lost
We lost a few thousand workbook assignments when we transported the role they were attached to into Production
The workbooks did not exist in Development, thus they all went AWOL. We wrote an ABAP program to re-assign them in production
Regression Testing Process
Introduction
We were limited to what we could do here. We didn't have a sandbox environment available. Nor did we have the opportunity to have a replica of our production data to test with, due to lack of disk space in Acceptance and lack of sufficient Basis resource.
Set up
We manually replicated our production process chains into test. We didn't have any legacy InfoPackages to worry about. We asked our super-users for a list of their "Top 10" most important queries and did a reverse transport of the queries from Production back into test (as we do not generally have a dev/acc/prodn process for managing queries, and they are mostly created solely in prodn). We made sure every application was represented. In retrospect we should have done some Workbooks as well, although that didn't give us any problems.
Actions
Prior to the various changes we loaded data via the Process chains and ran the example queries to give ourselves a baseline of data to test against. After the change we ran the same queries again and compared the results against the baseline. We tried to keep R/3 test environments as static as possible during this, although it wasn't always the case & we often had to explain away small changes in the results. After upgrading BW Development we connected it to Acceptance R/3, so that we had pre-upgrade (BW Acceptance) and post-upgrade (BW Development) both taking data from the same place so we could compare and contrast results on both BW systems. We did the same thing once BW Acceptance had been upgrading by connecting it (carefully!) to Production R/3. To get round the lack of disk space we tested by Application and deleted the data once that Application had been signed off. Once we got to System test we involved super-users to sign off some of the testing.
Security
We chose to implement the new security schema rather than choosing the option to stick with old. For us, with a relatively small number of users we felt we could get away with this & if it all went wrong, just temporarily give users a higher level role than they needed. Our security roles are not complex: we have end user, power-user and InfoProvider roles for each BW application, together with some common default roles for all. In the event we simply modified the default "Reports" role that all our users are assigned, transported it and it all went smoothly. Apart from the fact that everyone's workbooks are assigned to this role and so we "lost" them all !
Transport Freeze
Once you've upgraded Development you've lost your transport path. We planned around this as best we could and when absolutely necessary, developed directly in Acceptance or Production, applying those changes back to Development once the project was complete. Depending on what other BW projects you have running this may or may not cause you pain!
Web Applications
Dashboards
We had various dashboards designed via Web Application Designer. All these continued to function on the upgraded system. However there were various formatting changes that occurred e.g. Bar graphs were changed to line graphs, text formats on axes changed etc. SAP provides an upgrade path for moving your Web applications by running various functions. However we took the view that we would simply re-format our dashboards manually, as we didn't have very many to do. Plus the external IGS (see below) powered all our environments and needs upgrading separately as part of the SAP method. Thus we couldn't have tested the SAP path in Development without risking Production. Sticking with manual mods was a lower risk approach for us. We did find we had to re-activate some templates from BC to get some of the reports to continue to work.
Internet Graphics Server (IGS)
We had an external IGS server with v3.0B. Post-upgrade the IGS becomes part of the internal architecture of BW and thge external server is redundant. We found no issues with this; after the upgrade BW simply stops using the external IGS and no separate config was needed.

ECC 6.0 Upgrade from 4.7 - EDI Interfaces
Hi Gurus,
Need your inputs on what are the precautions to be taken during ECC 6.0 Upgrade related to EDI Interfaces. with SAP upgrading from 4.7 to ECC 6.0, do you see any precautions need to be taken considering the middle ware involvement. Also, is there any changes in IDOC Structures in ECC 6.0 which my cause issues related mapping with middleware.
Please suggest.
Thanks & Regards,
C.L. Narasimhan "CLN"Hi,
generally, a release upgrade, delivers new idoc/message types or new releases of existing idoc/message types.
So, taking this in mind, you shouldn't have problems for the mapping of the messages, because the versions of the basic idoc, once released, cannot be changed.
You might have some application problems related to the inbound interfaces, but this is part of the game...the testing phase will highlight whether the problem exists.
A known problem is that the upgrade removes all the customer specific entries in the system table EDIFCT.
Further details are provided in the OSS note [https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/865142]

I'm thinking of upgrading from v10.6.8 Snow Leopard to OS X Yosemite. I know, I'm years behind, but it has become a necessity. My Mac is becoming slow and is incompatible with many softwares and websites. Does anyone know of any problems associated with this upgrade? What are the implications and/or consequences of installing Yosemite? Does it effect functionality of v10.6.8 software or hardware? Are there any precautions I should take before the installation? I have read some posts about Macs slowing right down after installing Yosemite. Any insights and information (in layman's terms please!) would be very useful. Thanks.
Huge thanks for your response Michel. I apologise for the delay in getting back to you. I have done as you suggested, the details are pasted below. Clearly there are some applications I need to remove and no doubt my HD could do with a 'spring clean'. My Mac 'Safe Booted' when I turned it on this morning.
I use many different softwares, some web-based. The decision to upgrade to OSX Yosemite is because I was unable to attend a Webinar this week using GoToMeeting downloadable software. GoToMeeting have upgraded their system and my OS is no longer supported. Other websites like VImeo no longer support my version of Safari. I tend to use Chrome if Safari isn't compatible.
Problem description:
I'm thinking of upgrading from v10.6.8 Snow Leopard to OS X Yosemite. However I have noticed that my MacBook Pro becoming ‘slow’ over the last 3 weeks and therefore might have some issues that need to be resolved before I even consider installing OSX Yosemite. Over the last week my Mac has Safe Booted on three occasions, so clearly there’s a ‘glitch’ occurring.

Upgrading from Panther 10.3.9 to Tiger 10.4.3
My brother has a 17" 1.8 IMac and wants to upgrade from Panther 10.3.9 to Tiger 10.4.3 so he can use Aperture, Apple's new software. Since I have always helped him in the past with his upadates, I prefer doing clean installs by reformatting the hard drive before doing a major upgrade like the aforementioned. Is this the preferred method or should I attempt to install over Panther without reformatting? I'm rather reluctant to go to 10.4.3 based upon the number of negative experiences reported by people who have done so, but if he wants to use Aperture, according to the system requirements needed to run it, he has to perform this update. What recommendations do any of you have for making a safe migration from 10.3.9 to 10.4.3? In other words, what is the best and safest method of updating?
G5 2.3 Mac OS X (10.4.1)Tom,
Don't forget this forum is the hospital ward. Don't let the preponderance of bad reports make you think an update is bad. These are usually cases where people haven't taken the proper precautions while updating which should always be taken.
Mac OS X doesn't technically have a clean install option. For reasons why I say not, see this user tip:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607614
The best method of upgrading depends on how well the machine is functioning in 10.3.9. If it has sufficient space, sufficient RAM, has not had any kernel panics, the following sequence of steps is recommended:
1. Backup your data.
2. Make sure all your hardware and software has compatible drivers for the operating system you are going to. Verify all the applications you are going to use are updated.
3. Dismount and disconnect all third party peripherals.
4. Upgrade and install to 10.4 with a retail 10.4 installer disk. Do not use a system specific disk on a different machine. Buy the box family or single user pack from an Apple software reseller.
5. Repair permissions with Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility
6. Run the 10.4.3 combo update:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxupdate1043combo.html
7. repeat step 5.
Do steps 1 and 5 before and after any update as a general practice in anycase. Application installers often have a tendency to want to mess with permissions and sometimes don't put them back causing problems later on.
Now if you are having issues launching specific programs, or programs unexpectedly quitting now, or 4 language screens those need to be isolated before you update. -
OK to upgrade from 10.3.9 to MAC OS X 10.4?
I need to use Safari 2.02 to run a surveillance program. I have Safari 1.3.1 V312.3.1. I am told to upgrade from 10.3.9 to MAC OS X 10.4 before I upgrade to Safari 2.02.
Please advise if this is ok?
