Preferred Platform for Essbase?

I am planning for an implementation of a large Essbase Cube which is about 1 GB in size and will have 3000 users and of them 300 concurrent.
I would appreciate your thoughts on the implementation and my questions are:
Which would you choose if you had 4 CPU's DualCore on:
1. Solaris on SUN SPARC
2. Windows 2003 64-Bit
and
3. Where is according to you the biggest user base, Solaris or Windows?
4. What is most stable, Solaris or Windows?
Your comments are very welcome, Lars

Matt,
I will elaborate some of the steps I took, with pleasure.
1. You are correct, the STACK setting was the first thing that support suggested, and setting it to the maximum (I believe that is 64K, we were at 8K) was a rather sizeable performance improvement.
2. The other suggestion I received from support was an undocumented (v7.1.5) setting for the calc. By default when blocks are brought in to memory they are expanded (dynamic calcs are performed). The setting is 'SET FRMLRTDYNAMIC OFF' which turns off the dynamic calcs. This also gave me a good performance boost. WARNING, your calc musn't rely on any dynamic calc'd members to take advantage of this.
These 2 suggestions, and some general tuning (for instance the CALCPARALLEL n windows was only using 3, on Solaris I could set it to 4), and making sure I had the fix's set up the most effecient way, etc, the script still ran in almost 30 minutes.
The last big performance gain (the one that got me back in the sub 2 minutes range) was stumbled upon. The script was using some functions (specifically '@MEMBER(@CONCATENATE(@NAME(@ANCEST("Time Periods",4)), " GLOBAL DRIVER"))') to try to resolve the name of a week's ancestor and concatenate that with " Global Driver" for a "period"s data entry member. During testing we noted that this worked for Period 1, but that it was resolving to Period 1 for all periods so I had to change it to hard coding. Well, Lo and behold that was also the performance issue. Solaris must have issues resolving the functions. So even though the script went from 100 or so lines to 1400 or so lines, it still ran much better (from 30 minutes to 2 minutes).
Even though I had a great learning experience through this, I still stand by my original comments that "Out of the box" essbase runs better on windows because I didn't have to tweak any of those things on windows.

  • Best Platform for Essbase for 50+ appl

Hi,We are planning to acquire new hardware for our Essbase Server. Plan to use the latest version 6.5.1. Currently we are considering to use 4 way pSeries 630 with fastT 200 external storage and 4 way Compaq DL580 with MSA 1000 external storage. My questions are:- Which platform is better for Hyperion Essbase, AIX or Windows 2000 in terms of performance, stability, manageability, work load handling?- What is the maximum applications can be run on Windows 2000 systems? We plan to implement 50+ application in single server? Any problem if we use AIX?- Is there a limitation / performance downgrade if we use external storage for the server? Is 1 Gbits bandwidth enough for external storage? or should we consider 2 Gbits? Thanks and regards,[email protected]

    what did you finally use?

  • Unix or Win2000 Server (NT) for Essbase?

Dear all,Our company is planning to set up Essbase for developing OLAP applications. We expect our data volume would be more than 100G. Can you give me some guildlines and comparision in choosing the platform for essbase, either in Unix or Win2000 Server? Any white papers on that is welcome.White paper can send to my email:[email protected]

  • Preferred Unix Platform for DB server

Currently we are using HP Compaq Tru64 as the OS for all our DB servers,
as you are aware, this OS will be desupported in the future. Hence, we need to pick a new OS.
I am aware of Oracle has their preference in delivering DB server software and patches in different OS with a certain order.
Would you be able to provide me information on the preference ? Your answer will be an input of the process of selecting a new OS ?

    Hello,
I can give you only my personal opinion. It seems, the preferred platform (from Oracle's point of view) is now Linux, although there's no official statement by Oracle (and no representative will give you a definite answer).

  • Physical Path for Essbase Studio Cubes

    Hi All,
I have one doubt regarding Cubes developed in Essbase Studio.I want to know the extact phyical existance path for Essbase Studio.
Currently we have an space constraint for Essbase Studio in Server. So,Is there any possibility to change the cube path in Essbase Studio where we have sufficient space.
Can some one provide assistance for this issue
    Thanks,
    SatyaB

    Hi All,
Currently Iam facing with Cube space allocation.
Essbase Applications is installed in D: .Currently D: has only 2GB Disk Space only. So, They want to point out the applications in E: drive which contains sufficient space.
Can someone suggest me where I have to make changes in settings to build and load the cube in E: instead of D: drive.
    For your reference
    1.     Building and Loading of cube is happening through Essbase Studio.
    2.     EPM Version : 11.1.2 (Platform : Windows)
Should I need to make changes in EAS Console edit properties. Please Advise. Thanks in Advance.

  • How do I change platform for CS6?

I have Photoshop CS6 installed on a Windows computer. I have now purchased an iMac and would like to transfer my license to that.
Or preferably run on both machines. I have unsuccessfully tried to come into contact with anyone who can help me with this.
    Appreciate advice.

If you purchased a licensed version then you are limited to only one platform.  A Cloud membership will allow you to have mixed platforms.
You can swap languages/platforms for a latest version product if you follow the instructions at the following link:

  • Documentation for Essbase 6.5.3

    Good day!
Can anyone please tell me where can I get the documentation for Essbase 6.5.3? Preferably for Essbase Administration Services 6.5.3 and Essbase Integration Services 6.5.3.
    Thank you very much!

Did you see this thread: Essbase 6.5 documentation
It looks like someone has the 6.5 Essbase documentation. That's half your search.

  • RDBMS for Essbase

    Hi All-
I got the below statement from an Oracle guy while planning for an upgrade:
"An Oracle RDBMS is required in essbase v11 for housing metadata and system security information and it was not required in the v7. "
Is it a valid statement if we just want to have Essbase at standalone product with native security? Does it mean that v9.3 also need an RDBMS for Essbase? If so, why?
I've worked on v7 & v9.3 Essbase, and I don't remember using RDBMS for v9.3 Essbase. Please let me know if you have more info on this, Thanks!

True, though I can see why they were told Oracle by Oracle :)
List of supported database types are in the support matrix - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/hyperion-supported-platforms-085957.html

  • 64 bit client support for Essbase 7.1.X

    Hi,
I'm trying to work out the Essbase 64 bit story. It looks like Essbase 7.1.4 you could install the server on a 64bit platform. How about the client pieces? For example, if I have a client application that I'm writing consuming the Essbase C API can I have this running on a 64 bit platform? If so which ones? What's the story for Essbase 7.1.5 and 9?
    Thanks
    Reuben

Essbase 7.1.4 was a 64-bit only release that did have a corresponding 64-bit Java API (contained in the Essbase Deployment Services package). I didn't install 7.1.4 so I don't know if there was a 64-bit client API package.

  • Preferred adapter for VGA? Mini DisplayPort to VGA or Mini-DVI to VGA?

Which is the preferred adapter for connecting a VGA-only LCD display to the new Mac mini?
The official Mac mini accessories page <http://www.apple.com/macmini/accessories.html> prominently features the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter.
However, the Tech Specs knowledge base article <http://support.apple.com/kb/SP505> suggests the Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter.
I'm sure Mac OS X will work fine with either. But is one more likely to work better with Windows XP using Boot Camp?

I've come up with my own answer to my earlier question...
It's the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter.
I ended up trying both adapters, and got the results I described here: [http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9255959].
Besides the simple fact that the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter is the only adapter that fully worked for me, it's also cheaper.
Also, from a mechanical point of view, the nuts to secure a VGA cable to the DisplayPort version of the adapter are recessed into the end of the connector housing. This prevented my VGA cable from being able to be properly secured to the adapter--although this might be a defect with my cable!

  • Financial report for essbase and planning application

    Hi,
Can any one please explain me what is the difference between creating financial report for essbase application and planning application.
Considering we will have Essbase cube for the planning application
    Thanks in advance

Correct, the data that is stored in Essbase will be the same regardless of which connection type you use.
Data that is only stored in Planning can only be retrieved using a Planning connection. This includes Supporting Detail and SmartLists as these are stored in the Planning relational database.
As a general rule I always use an Essbase connection unless i specifically want to get supporting detail or smartlists but that is just me.
    Hope this helps

  • How To Install Platform for Multiple Developers on Single UNIX Machine?

    Hello,
What is the best way to install the WL 8.1 Platform for multiple
developers on a single UNIX machine? These developers may start
    concurrent instances.
The problems I see are that the log files generated by Workshop would
be shared among concurrent users, permissions would need to be set so
that the user that is running the instance that creates the log files
will need to create the file with permissions that everyone can use. Are
there any other issues to doing this?
I could not find the information on this in the documentation.
    Thanks

I was referring in particular to the logs that are created by Workshop
itself (in the workshop directory). It creates workshop.log and netui.log.

    Steven,
which workshop log file are you referring to ?
the workshop log files are usually saved to the domain directory.
If the developers are each going to start their own server instances then
    there should be no issues.
The best option for you is to create multiple domains for each developer.
They will share the same workshop installation, but they will each have
    their own instances.

  • Just bought Creative Suite 5 for Windows, but I want to install it on a Mac. Can I change the platform for a serial number?

As the title says I want to change the platform for a serial number so I can install it on my Mac. I know from searching on Adobe's help pages that you can request a platform or language swap, but the link they instruct you to use has been under maintenance since october last year? Is there another way around this? Thanks for all your help.

CS5 does not qualify for a platform swap.  Adobe allows platform changes for the latest version only, which is CS6.  The information regarding that is available thru the foillowing page...
Order product | Platform, language swap
If you just purchased the software then you should be able to return it to whatever third party vendor sold it to you for an exchange for the Mac version.

  • Know more detail about the Remote Support Platform for SAP Business One ?

SAP Business One 9.1 is about to release this year and we can see in the feature enhancements that a significant update is planned in the Remote Support Platform for SAP Business One, more commonly known as RSP. Let’s have a quick look what update is planned for RSP in version 9.1:
Enhancements planned in Remote Support Platform for SAP Business One 9.1
RSP is planned to support both SAP Business One on Microsoft SQL Server as well as SAP Business One on HANA Database
RSP Processes and Reports adapted to SAP HANA Database
With this plan RSP will help in the areas of Download, Installation, Go-Live Check, Monitoring, Upgrade and Support for SAP Business One both   on SQL Server and HANA.
But like me (non-SAP B1 Consultant) many of you have the question what is RSP and how it helps in support? Here I have tried to gather all information.
What is Remote Support Platform for SAP Business One?
The remote support platform for SAP Business One is designed to protect a SAP Business One installation by providing automated and remote support in a high-volume business.
The platform monitors the entire SAP Business One environment. By significantly reducing the time between the appearance, identification, and resolution of issues, the remote support platform for SAP Business One minimizes the impact on customer databases and processes.
Some Key Features of Remote Support Platform:
Showing alerts to SAP B1 Admin about the events which require their attention, such as low disk space, database backups, etc.
Incident Reports against the issues identified which require attention of SAP Support
Company Database Backup and Restore options
Regular fixes of Company Database inconsistencies
Check, Download and Install regular updates in SAP Business One
Upload Logs and required files to SAP Support or to Partner Support on regular basis
Some details about RSP Backup Management
Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly backups
Perform differential and full database backups
    Back up transaction logs
Back up files to shared folders on a network
    System Status Report through RSP
From June 1st 2013, it will be mandatory to install, configure and upload the System Status Report (SSR) from Remote Support Platform (RSP) for SAP Business One in order to receive support for messages of a technical nature (upgrades, performance & crashes, etc).
    Database uploads only via RSP
From June 1st 2013 SAP Business One Support will only accept database uploads to SAP via remote support platform for SAP Business One. In certain exceptional circumstances STFP may be used but this will constitute a minority of cases.
    Microsoft Windows PowerShell Scripting
In the remote support platform studio, you can create tasks using Microsoft Windows PowerShell scripting. PowerShell enables you to perform remote administrative tasks on customers’ Microsoft Windows operating systems, by providing full access to Component Object Model (COM) and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).Some Network Prerequisite for RSP
To achieve the internet connection test, you must allow port 80 for the RSP external communication
Disabling antivirus firewall or add the RSP to the trusted zone of the antivirus
    Set the correct proxy
Disabling Windows firewall in the TP_link Wireless Configuration Utility
