Preloader and loading MovieClips Question

I've been making seperate files for each of my pages which are around a megabyte in size for my webpage, and I was wondering is there a way to make a preloader all in one file, and when it loads the page it goes straight to the preloader instead of the screen going white for a few seconds while it loads? If so I played around with it and lemme know what's wrong with the code:
I added this section of the code before all the vars for the actual site, but it still didn't work the way I wanted it to
import com.greensock.TweenLite;
import com.greensock.easing.*;
var scrollTimer:Timer = new Timer(2000,1);
scrollTimer.addEventListener("timer",scrollShow);
this.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,myProgress);
scrollGallery_mc.alpha = 0;
function scrollShow(e:TimerEvent):void {
     TweenLite.to(scrollGallery_mc,2,{alpha:1});
function myProgress(e:Event):void {
     var loaded:Number = this.stage.loaderInfo.bytesLoaded;
     var total:Number = this.stage.loaderInfo.bytesTotal;
     var pct:Number = loaded/total;
     load_mc.loader_mc.scaleX = pct;
     preload_txt.text = "Loading: " + (Math.round(pct*100)) + "%";
     if (pct == 1) {
          myComplete();
function myComplete():void {
     startPage();
     this.removeEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS,myProgress);
     this.removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,myComplete);
     load_mc.visible = false;
     preload_txt.visible = false;
     scrollTimer.start();
     play();
stop();
Second question is there a way to load a movie clip object using as3 as an a separate interactive object without directly adding it to the stage in the fla file?

It's a stupid simple intro clip with no depencies to the application. The crazy thing about is, that it's loads the most time... So i think i make something wrong? I start loading after the preloader was added to stage.

  • Clustering problems and load balancing question

              I am using Weblogic 6.1. My Windows NT environment consists of 10 web client-simulator
              machines, 2 App. Server machines and one database server machine. I have defined
              one cluster on each app. server. Each cluster is running 3 Weblogic instances, or
              so it should be when I fix my problems!
              My questions/problems are the following:
              1. Can I use a software dispatcher to perform workload balancing between the 2 weblogic
              clusters? That is, the client-simulator machines send the requests to the software
              dispatcher which performs workload balancing between the 2 Weblogic clusters. The
              clusters perform round-robin amongst all instances. Note that the documentation only
              talks about Hardware Balancing.
              2. I am having problems with my multicast IP addresses. For instance, on one App.
              Server machine, I am using the multicast IP address: 239.0.0.1 for MyCluster. When
              I start the Admin Server, I get a JDBC error: "... multicast socket error: Request
              Time Out". I have used the utils.MulticastTest utility which shows the packets not
              being received:
              I (S1) sent message num 1
              I (S1) sent message num 2
              I (S1) sent message num 3
              I (S1) sent message num 4
              What am I doing wrong?
              3. Re. the cluster configuration:
              NOTE: I have executed my workload using 2 independent App. Server machines with a
              software dispatcher - no clustering. Each App. Server used a jdbc connection pool
              of 84 database connections. The db connections happened to become my bottleneck.
              When I tried to increase the number of connections in the jdbc pool, throughput decreased
              dramatically. Thus, I decided to add a cluster of Weblogic instances to each one
              of my 8 x 900Mhz machines in order to scale up. Unfortunatly, adding clusters have
              not been that simple a task - probably because I am totally new to the Web Application
              Server world!
              Here is what I've got so far:
              I have obtained 3 static IP addresses for the 3 instances of Weblogic instances that
              I wish to run within the cluster. All servers in the cluster use port number 80.
              There is a corresponding DNS entry for each IP address. My base assumption is that
              one of these instances will double up as the Administration Server... Is it true,
              or do I need to define a separate Admin server if I wish to run 3 Weblogic instances
              (each with a connection pool of 84 database connections for a total of 252 database
              connections)?
              Do I need to re-deploy my applications for the cluster? And if so, would this explain
              why I am having problem starting my Admin Server?
              I think this is it for now. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
              Thanks in advance,

              We also support software load balancers (for e.g. resonate)
              The software dispatcher should be intelligent enough to decode the
              cookie and route the request to the appropriate servers. This is
              necessary to maintain sticky load balancing.

              BEA recommends to use Admin server for administrative tasks only
              like configuring new deployments, jdbc conn pools, adding users etc..
              It's not a good idea to have admin server part of cluster.

    1. I just need to understand whenever the reports are generated through BIP, are there reports stored on some local directory (say Reports) on the BIP server or Siebel File system? If on a File system how will archiving policy be implemented.
    2. When we talk of load balancing BIP Server. Can the common load balancer be used for BIP and Siebel servers?

  • VO's and load balancing question

    Hi guys,
    As anyone got any experience in load balancing a web application using ADF BC's (EO's and VO's) and any problems that I face?
    I am researching possible problems that will pop up while deploying my application. I want to have my app running on two servers and put some form of load balancer (hardware or software) in front of them. One issue I can think of is that when someone commits something on one server the VO cache on the other server will not get updated. This is a problem if there is a user on each server and they are both accessing the same row.

    Reboot your iPad and then see if you can set the security questions.
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Flex 4 - is it possible to load xml data into the preloader and pass it to the application?

    or is there a similar method to load XML data while the preloader is active, so the XML data will be ready when the main application loads?

    i'm having great difficulty finding any relevant info from the forum and the web about accessing preloader variables from the application.
    is there a way to access the preloader itself from the application?
    It seems logical that the systemManager garbage collects it. If that's the case, how can i access the systemManager from the preloader and possible pass variables to it, then later access them from the application? this seems to be the best direction to tackle this problem. but maybe i'm overlooking another way?

  • Firefox 4b7 does not complete «More Answers from-» action on Formspring.me userpages; previous Firefox (3.6) was able to load more questions and answers

    Even in safe mode, Firefox 4b7 is not able to complete «More Answers from…» action on Formspring.me userpages, it just displays «loading more questions…» for a seemingly endless amount of time. (Firefox 3.6 and any other browser, such as Safari, displays «loading more questions…» for a short period of time when AJAX works, then the questions and answers are actually loaded and displayed.) In order to reproduce, load Firefox 4b7 in Safe Mode, visit www.formspring.me/krylov and click on «More Answers from Konstantin Krylov» (the bottom link). what a waste of money sending an engineer to "fix a fault" which does not exist.  Precisely.
    In my original BE post to which Tom so helpfully responded, I began:  It seems to me that DLM is an excellent concept with a highly flawed implementation, both technically and administratively.   I think that sending out an engineer to fix an obviously flawed profile is the main example of an adminastrative flaw.  I understand (I can't remember source, maybe Tom again) that they are sometimes relaxing the requirement for a visit before reset.
    Maybe the DLM system is too keen on stability vs speed.  This will keep complaints down from many people: most users won't notice speed too much as long as it is reasonable, but will be upset if their Skype calls and browsing are being interrupted too often.
    However, it does lead to complaints from people who notice the drops after an incidence (as in your thread that has drawn lots of interest), or who only get 50 instead of 60.  The main technical flaw is that DLM can so easily be confused by drops from loss of power, too much modem recycling, etc, and then takes so long to recover.

  • Loading Flat File and Temporary Table question

    I am new to ODI. Is there a method to load a flat file directly in to the target table and not have ODI create a temporary file? I am asking this in trying to find out how efficient ODI is in bulk loading a very large set of data.

    You can always modify the KM to skip the loading of the temporary table and load the target table directly. Another option would be to use the SUNOPSIS MEMORY ENGINE as your staging database. But, this option has some drawbacks, as it relies on available memory for the JVM and is not suitable for large datasets (which you mention you have).

  • Preloader and moviecliploader class

    Hello
    Firstly thanks to kglad for some advice yesterday. More needed
    I am using FlashMX 2004 Professional.
    I have been having problems with my preloader which i have placed as a movieclip at the start of the pertinent scenes where it is needed. The problem has been one of file size in frame one -  a common problem I beieve. This causes the preloader script to malfunction and come in late and show just 100% loaded of the preloader animation - again a common problem I am reading. SO it seems clear having designed the whole website using LoadMovie Number that the movieClipLoaderClass would be the solution to getting my Preloader to work. Hmm..
    So can people tell me that if I now create a seperate scene for the preloader and have it listen for any downloading swf to activate using the moviecliploader class will this work ok in tandem with how I have connected all the other scenes using the loadmovienumber? Just need to now before I start trying that out. My hope is that the Preloader will then overcome the file size issue of the first frame because and it will not have to load itself every time afresh.
    Hope this makes sense, I am fairly inexperienced here...
    Cheers
    Pete

    I know everything about the file, I know that the sound starts on the first frame and also I know it ends on the last frame. If the sound data are on the main timeline, the sound could be streamed and you don't have to load it fully to start playback. The question is the same, how much I need to load to start the sound.
    I think it's not very clear why I need this. Imagine:
    - you need to play the external SWF file
    - you start to load it via the MovieClipLoader class
    - onLoadInit you stop the movie and wait for the load
    - check, if you can run the movie - based on bytes and/or frames you can determine, you preloaded enough, so the movie won't be stopped and you don't have to load more to continue
    - but, when you run the movie, the animation starts, just the sound doesn't, because more of it needs to be loaded.
    - then after short time the sound start to play and since it's streamed and on the timeline, it's sync with the animation
    So, in this scenario a few seconds of the sound are skipped / missing in playback. Of course, it could happen that the sound runs fine, because the SWF content could be different. I can't say 20% of the file size is audio and the rest is the animation.
    I wanted fully flash solution, but it seems I'll have to find it in combination with Java, because it seems there is no way to distinguish between audio and other data in the Flash movie in AS.
    Anyway, thank you for your help.

  • The issue is related to firefox 3.5 but is also seen in firefox 3.6 the images rendered like a curtain effect if they are not preloaded and the page builds up in part rather than building all at once and showing

    When we traverse from one page to the other and this is not different php pages, its the same html page only dom manipulation. to show different gui one after the other. Now on these screens there are some images that are preloaded like loaded upfront and some are pulled at run time when user visits that screen. All images that are pulled on run time show a curtain effect. This is problem number 1, we cannot preload these images since the systems are having only 250mb ram.
    Now the other problem is that when the user goes from one screen to the other the entire screen builds up in one shot on ff 1.0.8 but on ff 3.5 or 3.6 it builds up in parts
    Do we need to change some configuration in firefox so that the curtain effect is eliminated, Is there a setting in firefox 3.5 that can make the rendering more like ff 1.0.8 or ff 2.
    Is there any different that you suggest we do our dom manipulations or some ways that we should not do if that is the cause of the issue. This is very urgent since we are loosing users due to performance problems

    MovieClip(root).nav.info.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, Down1, false, 0, true);
    var requester:URLRequest=new URLRequest("aboutLoader.swf");

    loader3.name ="about"

    trace(event);
    try {
    loader3.load(requester);
    } catch (error:SecurityError) {
    trace(error);

    loader3.x = (stage.stageWidth - 482) * .5 - 260;
    loader3.y = (stage.stageHeight - 492) * .5 - 140;
    removeChild( getChildByName("carousel") );

    Andrei1,
    Thank you for the helpful advice. I made the changes as you suggested but I am receiving a #1009 error message even though my site is working the way I wan it to work. I would still like to fix the errors so that my site runs and error free. This is the error I am receiving:
    "TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference."
    I'm sure this is not the best method to unload loaders and I am guessing this is why I am receiving the following error message.
         loader.unload();
         loader2.unload();
         loader3.unload();
    I also tried creating a function to unload the loader but received the same error message and my portfolio swf was not showing at all.
         function killLoad():void{
         try { loader.close(); loader2.close; loader3.close;} catch (e:*) {}
         loader.unload(); loader2.unload(); loader3.unload();
    I have a question regarding suggestion you made to set Mouse Event to "null". What does this do setting the MouseEvent do exactly?  Also, since I've set the MouseEvent to null do I also have to set the loader to null? e.g.
    ---- Here is my updated code ----
    // variable for external loaders
    var loader:Loader;
    var loader1:Loader;
    var loader2:Loader;
    var loader3:Loader;

    function resizeHandler(event:Event):void {
    // resizes portfolio page to center
         loader.x = (stage.stageWidth - loader.width) * .5;
         loader.y = (stage.stageHeight - loader.height) * .5;

  • Preloader Not Loading Until The Start of Lesson In Captivate 7

    I created a Scorm 2004 compliant lesson using Captivate 7. The file size is ~7MB. When I load and run the lesson on our LMS I don't see the preloader until 3-4 seconds before the file loads. I'm staring at a blank screen for about 45 seconds before anything happens. I have the preloader set at 10% but I can't get it to work.
    I loaded the file to one of our FTP sites and ran it on an html page and it does the same thing.
    Our customers are asking us why there is no indication that the lesson is loading and all I can say is it's a problem with Captivate 7.
    I upgraded to 7 because I was told the problem was fixed, but it's still bad.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Yes, it's set to look in the Cp7 preloader folder. I found this on a Captivate website and I think it answers the question.
    "As mentioned, preloaders are only really applicable for HTM/SWF output. But what you may not realize is that they will only work if the content is served from a web server over HTTP. Conversely, the preloaders will NOT work if the same content is served up from a LAN server drive over TCP/IP.  This is due to the fact that SWF preloaders need to communicate with the server to calculate and show the percentage of file currently loaded.  This communication works with web servers, but not with LAN servers."
    Unfortunately, Cp7 preloader is going to work on our LMS. I'm going to build a preloader class in Flash and call the Cp7 swf using that.
    Thanks for your help

    If you still have Captivate 6 on your PC, then make sure that the preloader in this Cp7 project is not pointing at a folder in the Cp6 install directory.  It should be using a Cp7 preloader.

  • Using the vanilla/default preloader to load additional assets?

    I have a Flex application that automatically loads the SWF and it's contents and displays the default progress bar like in all Flex apps. Currently I have a class in the application using a Loader instance to load a few external bitmaps to be added to the stage/canvas as well as an MP3. I'd like to handle the loading of these assets in the Flex default preloader and get rid of the Loader instance entirely.
    How can I do this?

    At least for the images, and perhaps for the sound, you need to not use loader, and instead embed the assets, because if loader is used the assets load at the same time as the SWF, which is too late.
    So in the createChildren method you override when you override DownloadProgressBar:
    //global var
    [Embed("Logo1.png")]
    [Bindable] public var logoCls:Class;
    private var logoDO:DisplayObject;
    // in createChildren() method
    logoDO = new logoCls();
    logoDO.x = (stageWidth/2)-(borderRect.width/2)+_logoX;
    logoDO.y = (stageHeight/2)-(borderRect.height/2)+_logoY;
    addChild(logoDO);
