Prevent Browser refresh on F5

I've been ased to look at a Captivate problem.
The published Captivate movie is a swf embedded using SWFObject (1.5 I think)
When F5 (or other function keys) are used as shortcuts in Captivate simulations, when the user presses F5 the keypress gets bubbled up to the Browser window, and the page refreshes. I need to prevent this behaviour.
I've tested out a version of the code found here:-
http://www.gklein.org/tests/js/disablekey.html
in my browser window, and it works fine while the browser window has focus, but fails to catch/prevent refresh when I press F5 when the Captivate swf has focus.
So it looks like I need a way to prevent Flash from dispatching the F5 keypress out to the browser. How can I do this? Or is there a better way?
Delivery is to Corporate users, locked to Internet Explorer 7.
TIA
Steve

There is no easy answer for this. BEA portal is a stateful framework and HTTP wasn't meant to be. My recommendation would be get rid of the nested controller's and state wherever you can (session or pageflow variables) and actions that depend on state(e.g. previousAction currentAction etc). Your state should be part of the URL (i.e. normal REST principles)
This is difficult if you've already implemented code.
So if you only have these problems at specific places you might consider the redirect after post techniques (in your case The
c. third controller's "back"-action is executed, which forwards to the second controller's "returnAction"-action, rendering a new page would become
c. third controller's "back"-action is executed, which forwards to the second controller's "returnAction"-action going to a temporary page which then redirects to a new page. Any refresh now is not on the "back" action but on the new page redirect. This also prevents the user using the back button (but not if he hits it twice quickly :) )

    In the top right of the media browser, there is a little icon called the flyout menu...  click it and choose 'Edit Columns'.
    Put a checkmark in the box called 'date Created'and then click ok
    Now, at the top of the media browser the columns 'Name', FilePath, 'DateCreated' should be listed.  You can sort your media by any of those columns by clicking on them.
    Not sure about bridge... maybe someone else can help you with that.

  • How to handle Back button, Browser Refresh problem at server side.

    Hi Friends,
    How to handle Back button, Browser Refresh problem at server side in java?.
    I am able to trace that,
    request.getHeader("ACCEPT") is returning value- */*
    when the browser was refreshed and returning different MIME types
    for all other actions from browser.
    I have doubt, will the above solution works always for all servers,browsers?.
    Please also specify any solution to handle back button at server side?.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Venkat..

    I'm sorry I don't think tht's the right solution for
    the above question....
    We must be aware that whatever scripting methdologies
    we either javascript/vbscript would executed @
    client(browser) side not @ server side....
    Dud If U get a good solution keep me updated.....
    THANKS & REGARDS,
    RAHULMy dear friend ...
    the bad news is that u simply cant disable or add any listener to the back button of the browser.
    When u hit the back button of ur browser the URL gets re-executed. So in case u have a JSP then the history.forward() is the best solution. [only if the page doesnt get expired similar to secure https sites]
    Now dont say that user can have javascript disabled ...those users will have a pretty touch time browsing websites since javascripts r used extensively by almost all websites.
    But in case u have an action.do or servlet call then u need to manage it using a session variable since the request will be sent to the server rather than client.
    For multiple form submittion issues read the following article in javaworld...
    Client vs. server solutions
    Different solutions can solve this multiple form submission situation. Some transactional sites simply warn the user to wait for a response after submitting and not to submit twice. More sophisticated solutions involve either client scripting or server programming.
    In the client-only strategy, a flag is set on the first submission, and, from then on, the submit button is disabled based on this flag. While appropriate in some situations, this strategy is more or less browser dependent and not as dependable as server solutions.
    For a server-based solution, the Synchronizer Token pattern (from Core J2EE Patterns) can be applied, which requires minimal contribution from the client side. The basic idea is to set a token in a session variable before returning a transactional page to the client. This page carries the token inside a hidden field. Upon submission, request processing first tests for the presence of a valid token in the request parameter by comparing it with the one registered in the session. If the token is valid, processing can continue normally, otherwise an alternate course of action is taken. After testing, the token resets to null to prevent subsequent submissions until a new token is saved in the session, which must be done at the appropriate time based on the desired application flow of control.
    for more details refer :
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/javatips/jw-javatip136.html
    Hope u got the idea.
    FYI I have been using both these ideas in my credit card payment gateway project. This concept has worked really well.

  • Browser REFRESH button does not return to the same iView/Page

    Hi,
    In SDN site I have seen that in whichever menu i am in, if i use the browser refresh button i return to the same page. But this does not happen on my enterprise portal.
    Can you please let me know, how to set / configure the enterprise portal EP7 such that, if am in any iview and use the browser refresh, then i am returned to the same iview / page and not to the first page of the menu. Currently in my portal, when i hit the browser REFRESH button, it takes me to the first page/iview.
    Thanks,
    Anirban

    Dear Romano,
    Thanks for your reply. With the help of the document link that you have provided, i have been able to achieve my target partially. Currently i am able to refer to the iView and Role directly using the QuickLink and when i access that particular iView & Role using the QuickLink and then do a refresh, the same screen appears. This part is working fine. But i have one issue.
    But generally a iView/Role is accessed not via the QuickLink on the browser but by clicking on the Role on Navigation Level 1. Even though this Role has a QuickLink, it is not visible in the address bar since the QuickLink URL was not used for reaching the Role. In such a situation, when we press the REFRESH button, the iView / Role is vanished and the browser returns to the first default page of the portal.
    Can we somehow make it such that whenever the Role is accessed in the Navigation Levels, it can be accessed via QuickLinks and the QuickLink URL is displayed on the address bar ? If this can be achieved, then i guess the problem will be solved.
    I hope i have been able to get across my point. Hoping to hear a positive reply from your side.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Anirban Kundu.

  • Create a Browser-Refresh Request

    Hi,
    do you know an opportunity, to generate a Browser-Refresh (Like the F5-Button)?
    I have a TimedTrigger. And after x Seconds the Browser should refresh. How can I do that?

    What do you mean with "the subsequent call to wdDoModifyView()"? Can you give me a code example?
    This is my onAction-Method:
    public void onActionTimeOut(com.sap.tc.webdynpro.progmodel.api.IWDCustomEvent wdEvent )
        //@@begin onActionTimeOut(ServerEvent)
        //@@end
    And this is my empty wdDoModifyView (The TimedTrigger is included in a little Popup-View without any logic):
    public static void wdDoModifyView(IPrivateTimeOutPopupView wdThis, IPrivateTimeOutPopupView.IContextNode wdContext, com.sap.tc.webdynpro.progmodel.api.IWDView view, boolean firstTime)
        //@@begin wdDoModifyView
        //@@end

  • Exception when using browser refresh button

    When using the browser refresh button, there is a prompt to re-submit data. Once the user selects Retry, an exception is thrown (see below).
    The SelectBean is of ViewScope and is listed in adfc-config.xml as such. The SelectBean is used to set session attributes based user selection of a row from a af:table.
    Is this the incorrect set up? Should this be a backing bean instead? We were expecting to see a prompt of navigating away from the page (similar to the behaviour here: [http://andrejusb.blogspot.ca/2011/07/how-to-handle-web-browser-buttons-in.html] ) instead of a resubmission prompt to be able to handle a user using the browser buttons.
    Thanks!

  • How do I prevent browsing and search data from being forwarded to Google by Mozilla, while still using Mozilla's Firefox as my default browser?

    I do enjoy using Mozilla's Firefox as my default browser, BUT, I don't enjoy the details of my life, to include my Internet activity, to be archived by Google, or anyone else, via Mozilla's/Firefox's sharing of my Internet browsing and/or search engine activity with any aspect or facet of the Google organization. With all of this said, my question is, "How do I prevent browsing and search data from being forwarded to Google by Mozilla, while still using Mozilla's Firefox as my default browser?"

    Firefox's default behavior includes no automatic interaction with Google.
    We do use Google as default search engine and to report web forgery in the 'help' menu, but no data are sent to Google without your knowledge, and you can change your preferred search engine at will.
    However many websites themselves make use of Google Ads which do cause interaction with Google when you load the webpages. This is visible in status bar and happens in any browser. The [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript NoScript] add-on for Firefox can largely save you from this problem.
    If you see things happening otherwise, please reply with details on what you see.

    do you have configured 'persistent rebalance' ?
    If yes, I would suggest to capture a trace to see what exactly occurs in the network when your browser does a refresh.

  • How can I undo the firefox browser refresh and get my old browser & settings, etc. back?

    I accidentally did the browser refresh yesterday (2-17-2015) without reading further down the page on what that would do. It of course gave me a fresh browser. The problem is I lost my customized appearance (Dark blue fox, I believe), the add-ons I really have come to really on, etc. Firefox did create a folder with the old settings. I'm not that savoy understanding how to get that folder to open, run, whatever it takes to put all the things I want back into working order on the firefox browser. Please excuse my lack of proper terminology, jargon, etc. I know enough to be confused and everything I have learned IT has come from stumbling through it over the last 15 years of having my own PC.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Please keep any solution details as plain and simple for a novas to understand and execute as possible.
    Many, many Thanks, Ottodewy

    When you reset (refresh) Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved to the desktop to an "Old Firefox Data" folder.
    Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.
    It is possible to recover data from the old profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
    Note that is is also possible to use the Profile Manager to create a new profile.
    That way the current profile isn't moved to the desktop, so you can return to it at any time.

    Regards,

    Hello Ekrem,
    I developed standard BSP (Page With Flow Logic) and I checked it behavior.
    From what I saw: when I pressed the Refresh button it didn't get into OnInputProcess method. only to OnIntialization method, so the button doesn't executed again.
    Try to clear event variables after you use it, may be it will help.
    Good Luck

  • FORM Based Authentication and Browser Refreshing

    We are using FORM Based Authentication in our web application and it works rather well. I have noticed an interesting bit of behavior that I am unable to explain. After an attempt is made to access the first protected resource the container will display the login page specified in the web.xml file. After successful authentication the original protected resource is displayed as expected. In the Address line of the browser however the original URI requested is now replaced with the following:
    http://<domain>:<port>/<root>/j_security_check
    Now, when we hit the refresh button on the browser we get the following error:
    404 Not Found
    Resource /<domain>/j_security_check not found on this server
    Two questions. 1. why does it do this? and/or (more importantly) 2. How do I prevent this behavior or work around it?

    Im trying to figure out how to pass the users ID
    and password, using form-based authentication and
    file realm, to our JDBC connection. Two separate issues.
    I've usually seen it done where there are three tiers, of course. The user provides login credentials from the view tier, which are passed to the controller tier. The controller will validate the user against a database or LDAP. Once they're validated, the credentials are put into session and provided for all apps that need them, including the persistence tier.
    The connection pool requires that you create connections using an application ID, not the user ID. You have to move the security out of the database and into the application.

  • FF15 is preventing pages in out of focus tabs from autorefreshing. All Javascript/Java and plugins are prevented from refreshing data when tab is not displayed

    FF15 is preventing pages that contain auto refreshing html commands, Javascripts, Java applettes, and other plugins, from auto reloading or refreshing information on web pages, when the tabs than contain them go out-of-focus.
    While tab has focus (page is fully displayed) all auto refreshing/reload embedded commands/programs work correctly.
    I work with web sites, were information needs to be auto updated constantly, whether the tab is hidden or not, such as stock prices, web server monitoring, biding sites, customer support chat, etc.
    This behavior can cause severe loads in web servers with web pages that contain many data items, when all server side programs that pertain to the data being displayed have to run from scratch at the same time, when the tab is brought back in focus, since the browser issues a full reload.
    This behavior also interferes with "reloading" FireFox addons
    One should be able to stop, and/or disable this behavior, and pretty sure this problem is affecting many users, and or web sites that rely on these commands to work according to html protocols.
    Is not the function of a web browser to interfere in any way with html embedded commands or programs, by stoping functionality, or preventing connection to the internet

    No need to remove Adblock Plus, disabling it should help you discover whether ABP is causing that problem or not.
    I saw a mention of that problem at MozillaZine fora a few days ago, but don't recall the details. But IIRC it has to do with toggling a setting to off.
    Adblock Plus has its own support forum.They should be able to help you get ABP adjusted to avoid that issue. <br />

  • How to include a common java script in all pages to prevent browser closure

    We have already implemented a script to prevent accidentally browser closure. The script has been included in a js static file and loaded in APEX 4.01.
    There is a way to make the script available to all pages without including it in all pages ?
    Ad example to make an item available to all pages is sufficient to include it in page 0 there is somethings similar for java script
    Txs
    Giuseppe.

    Reference the script via a <tt>script</tt> element in the Header section of utilised page templates.

  • Flash - browser refresh problem

    I have created a website completely in Flash. http://www.impact-martialarts.com    When the browser's refresh button gets pressed the site does not always reload properly, often freezing one frame before the content loads.
    Did I miss something? Does anyone have any ideas? Same issue, multiple browsers Mac or PC.
    This is the code for the preloader
    stop();
    //Preloader
    loaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, updatePreloader);
    function updatePreloader(evtObj:ProgressEvent):void
    //container for the progress of the site (download)
    var percent:Number = Math.floor((evtObj.bytesLoaded*100)/evtObj.bytesTotal);
    preloader_txt.text=percent+"%";
    if (percent==100){
    gotoAndPlay(2);
    //For IE Browsers
    var percent:Number = Math.floor((this.loaderInfo.bytesLoaded*100)/this.loaderInfo.bytesTotal);
    if (percent==100){
    nextFrame();
    This is the code in the first frame of content
    stop();
    // Animate in the home_mc from left to right, using the Tween class
    //Flash - go and get the code that is going to make the Tween work
    import fl.transitions.Tween;
    import fl.transitions.easing.*;
    //home_mc animate in...
    var homeTween:Tween = new Tween(home_mc, "alpha", Regular.easeOut, 0, 1, 2, true);
    //handle events for buttons..
    home.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    classes.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    schedule.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    about.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    news.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    gallery.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    contact.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    function clickSection(evtObj:MouseEvent){
    // trace shows whats hapening... in the output window
    trace ("The "+evtObj.target.name+" button was clicked!")
    //goto the section clicked on...
    gotoAndStop(evtObj.target.name);

    use the html published by flash.  do you still see the problem?  if yes, post the url of the embedding html published by flash that displays the problem.
