Preventing Reader from Adding to Hyperlinks?

Hi,
I'm hoping someone knows how to prevent this particular action in Adobe Reader. I have to use Crystal Reprots for stats at work and, occassionally, the reports have to include hyperlinks to external files on the company network.
When I export the reports to Word, Excel or HTML the links work. However, when I export to pdf and open with Adobe Reader v9, there's extra directories added to the beginning of the hyperlink. Obviously, this makes the links point somewhere completely non-existant.
The link should point to something like \\thygh-7\ww_c_cu\cls\124589.wav but it's being amended to file:///c|/docs_and_sets/cc/\\thygh-7\ww_c_cu\cls\124589.wav by adobe reader.
It seems to be some sort of default behaviour, but I can't find anything in the options to stop it (i've already unchecked the Create Links from URLs box in Preferences).
Anyone any ideas?

What happens if you try to Option-drag the library to the EHD? The same icon?
Make sure the EHD is formatted Mac OS X Extended (journaled) with Ownership set to be ignored:

How do I prevent Acrobat from encoding # in hyperlinks to %23 when generating a PDF from Word 2010?

Existing posts seem to indicate that the only solution is to manually modify each hyperlink in the generated PDF. This is a tedious and time-consuming process that I would like to avoid at any cost. Is there an alternative?

It is relative, but I don't want it to be. The problem is that I don't see any way in either Acrobat or InDesign to specify that it must be absolute.
It sounds like if I were to keep my working file on a local drive and export from there, it would automatically create an absolute link to the network path, but another designer is also working on the project and needs to be able to access the file. I could also copy the entire working folder to a local drive before exporting each time, or manually update the links in Acrobat from a local copy of the PDF after each export... but these both seem like ridiculous extra steps that shouldn't be necessary.
Is it really possible that neither program allows the user to control whether a link is relative or absolute? Should I post this in the InDesign forums, though the issue seems to be in Acrobat?

[AI CS3]: How to prevent Illustrator from adding a header while saving a PDF

Hi All.
I am using Illustrator CS3 (Win XP SP II) and am having a problem while processing PDF files with Javascript. Specifically, I create a PowerPoint presentation and save as a PDF, one slide per page. Then, using an Acrobat javascript, I split this PDF into individual pages. Those individual pages- representing an entire PowerPoint presentation- are then imported into Illustrator, scaled, and placed (duplicated) 3 per page onto a new document (created on the fly). Now here's the problem. When I save this new document (with its three PowerPoint slides) Illustrator expands the landscape page height from 8.5 to 8.8 inches, and then adds a header containing document name and date info.
I don't want this header, but I can't seem to find how to turn it off. There's probably a simple toggle somewhere, an "addHeaderInfo" sort of boolean, but where? Can anyone help me?

Good point. Here's the workflow:
1) Save PowerPoint (PP) presentation as single PDF file. [No marks]
2) Use Acrobat JS to break single PDF into individual PDFs
containing one slide per page.
3) Use Illustrator JS to import three PDF pages, suplicate and scale
them onto a new Illustrator PDF document, and then save that PDF
document.
4) At this point the marks appear (outside the crop line, I might
add) when I open them in Acrobat 8.0 but are not visible when I
re-open the files in Illustrator. So either Illustrator is
suppressing the marks, or Acrobat is adding them. The image at
the URL in my original post is the upper left corner of such
an Acrobat-opened file.
A) When printed, Illustrator does not print the marks nor the extra
page space, but Acrobat does. However...
B) Acrobat's Document-->Header & Footer-->Remove... comes back with,
"No headers found"
So while I haven't ruled out Illustrator, perhaps the problem is in Acrobat. Either way, tho, the questions remain...
What are these marks?
Who put them in?
How do I suppress them?

TS3276 How to prevent mail from adding contact details taken from the adress book

I don't know if this is the right place to ask about my issue but here it goes!
I use apple mail extensively having switched from entourage since outlook is by far no match to entourage. Anyhow my problem is that every time i add an email address in one of the TO recipients of a new email the mail program finds the name of that person in my my contacts and adds it to the initial email address.
I stretch out this is not the known problem where one wants to hide the contact names of a mail send to a group as a disclosed recipients mail.
I simply war to sent the mail without any delails added taken from my address book. In other words when i send a mail to say [email protected] I don't want the program to add the name of that person and send a mail to John Doe [email protected]
Anyone any ideas?

Sorry to disappoint you, SayWhat0, but unfortunately this is not possible. Apple did not include such a setting and this solution is what I'd call a workaround really. It solves the problem, but as you've mentioned not without drawbacks. I believe there is no other way to resolve this at the moment.

All I could suggest is to do the same and hope Apple will introduce a setting for this.

Applying 9.4.x patches - preventing Reader from shutting down and IE8 crashing?

So our base package is a 9.4.0 and trying to deploy the 9.4.2, 9.4.3 and 9.4.4 patches to thousands and thousands of users but without impacting them at the same time. This is on Windows 7.
I've been having no success in deploying these patches where it must meet these following requirements:
- do not prompt the user to close reader, cancel or ignore if Reader is opened
- and if I do suppress the above prompting, the Reader patch will go ahead and close Reader which I do not want to do.
As I understand, patching using MSP, you should have the ability to delay the completion of the updates when the workstation is rebooted because Reader is still running and thus certain files can't be updated, which is what we do with pretty well every other application that uses the MS Installer but the Reader patches seems to do it's own thing.
Lastly, when I have IE8 and Reader opened, and the PDF is already configured to open outside of the browser, during the 9.4.4 update, IE will crash because of the data execution protection has caught an exception with the ADobe PDF Link Helper:

Of course if I have IE closed then this doesn't occur but we can't force closing IE on the user as they could be doing something critical.
Anybody have any ideas how to workaround these two problems? At most, I could deploy 9.4.3 and just deal with the irritated users when Reader closes on them unexpectingly but the 9.4.4 patch can't be deployed because of the crash.

Also here is the power report although i dont think this is a power issue as it works when not charging.

"Invalid \escape" error preventing me from adding work email

Hello, I have been having a series of issues with my BlackBerry Q10 - sorry for the surge of threads, but these bugs seem unrelated and I would like to make separate threads to make them easier to search for others having similar problems.
I have been attempting to add my work email to my BlackBerry Q10. My username is "corp\myname". I am met with this error:

Using a double backslash merely tells me my settings are incorrect. I have attempted this upwards of ten times now, so I doubt the rest of my exchange info is the problem.

GPO to prevent users from accessing the root folder of their profile doesn't work

Here's the scenario:
In a Windows 2012 RDS I created two groups called RemoteApp users and remote desktop users.
These groups are defined in the collection for the corresponding RD Session hosts.
These groups are not included in any other group, but they are located under an OU -called Remote Users.
In the domain controller I have created a GPO named "Restrict access to root drive" which is linked to the Remote Users OU.
The GPO I selected is - "Prevent users from adding files to the root of their users files folder"
This doesn't seem to work. I have waited more than a few hours to allow the 90 minutes update, plus used the gpupdate /force
but when a user clicks on the RemoteApp (Excel in this example) then access to the C: drive (which is the root folder of the user's profile) is enabled, and the user can create folders and save files under C:.
I tried to run gpresult for the specific user but the GPO I created wasn't mentioned.
I thought this would be a straight forward mechanism, but somehow it looks like something is missing.
I have read about loopback and expanding, but not sure if this is what needs to be done, and if yes - I'd appreciate if I can get step by step instructions. Everything I found so far was VERY vague.

One more detail that may be relevant - the DC is a Windows Server 2012, and the session host is a Windows 2012 R2.

The USER accounts need to be in the OU your GPO is linked to. Despite
their name, GPOs do NOT apply to groups, but to users (and computers).
Groups only provide an additional layer of filtering...

Sales Order - Prevent user from creating more that one schedule line

Is it possible to prevent users from adding lines (rows) in the schedule line tab of VA01/VA02 ? Our requirement is that one item will have one only schedule line, the quantity cannot be split into different dates.

There are 2 schedule lines with different dates for a single line item in a sales order because of forward scheduling done by the system
System does backward scheduling first and if it fails then it does forward scheduling and that is why you find 2 different schedule lines
In configuration you can restrict the system to do only backward scheduling and stop after that
I am not infront of SAP now to tell you exactly where is the configuration available
I think it is Logistics execution--delivery scheduling
But This config is definately available in standard system to avoid 2 or more schedule lines for a single line item in a sales order
But i am not able to understand what is the business logic for such a requirement because i feel it will create a lot of problems
with this requirement

Stopping apps from adding Scheduled Tasks?

I'm getting tired of opening the Task Scheduler and finding a dozen tasks added by various programs larding up my computer. Install Flash and suddenly there's a new task to check for updates. Ditto for just about every other downloaded app.
Is there a way to prevent software from adding Scheduled Tasks on their own without completely disabling the Task Scheduler?
It certainly seems like a nasty security hole deliberately left open by Microsoft that could be easily abused, and should be plugged in future versions of Windows. At the very least, Task Scheduler should WARN me when an app requests permission to add a
scheduled task.
For now, I'd be satisfied with a .Reg file to disable/enable the ability to add Scheduled Tasks that I can run when needed.

I used this command from an elevated command prompt:
cacls.exe c:\windows\system32\tasks /t /g everyone:R
To reverse the process you would use this command:
cacls.exe c:\windows\system32\tasks /t /g Everyone:r System:F Administrators:F
To allow tasks in the Microsoft folder to be created or modified, use this command as the last command:
cacls.exe c:\windows\system32\tasks\Microsoft /t /g Everyone:r System:F Administrators:F

Stop Reader from Opening pdfs in Firefox?

I have had substantial problems with Adobe Reader too numerous to detail here. Suffice it to say that, as a result, I have been forced to turn to an alternative pdf reader. Even though all web browser options in Adobe Reader prefs are disabled, the other software is set as my defauld pdf viewer, and disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox, Adobe Reader continues to open pdfs from within Firefox. (Disabling the plugin works for the current session, but resets when Firefox is restarted.)
I like using Reader sometimes but unless I can figure out a way to prevent it from opening pdfs in Firefox, I will uninstall it entirely as my only option. Does anybody have a suggestion as to how I can prevent Reader from opening documents in Firefox?

If you are clicking on links which point to PDFs on the web, then Reader will be used to render the PDF using your default browser.
If you do not wish to view the PDFs on the browser, and want to view them via the application please do the following:
1. Launch Adobe Reader and goto Edit > Preferences
2. Navigate to the Internet panel on the left, and uncheck the option to "Diaplay PDF in browser"
3. Close Adobe Reader and try to launch a PDF link again. You will now be prompted to Save the PDF to your local disk which can then be opened via the application.

Preventing select-string from adding additional undesired strings in the output file

in PS 4.0 i am trying to write a function which
step1: export the list of all eventlogs ----> wevtutil el > "$home\documents\\loglist1.txt"
step2: deleted the following two lines from loglist1.txt
DebugChannel
Microsoft-RMS-MSIPC
( the reeson of deleting these two lines is wevtutil cl command, can't clear these two evenlogs among approximately 1000 logs)
in fact via select-string with -pattern -notmatch parameters, we select anything except these two line
step3: pastes the select-string contents into the same file ("$home\documents\loglist1.txt") or into new text file (for example
"$home\documents\loglist2.txt")
here is my code:

clearing all events is useful in test environment for example when i ma teaching my students & need to see all newly created events & work on them
Then you are teching your students how not to use an event log. We use filters and queries to access event logs. We also use event log CmdLets in PowerShell. WEVTUTIL is ok but it does not marry wellwith PowerShell as you have seen.
I have found very few people who are not certified in WIndows administration that know much about eventlogs when it should be a ver important part of administration. PowerShell has mmade EL management much easier but few take the time to learn how
to use the EL support in PowerShell.
I see no point inclearing event logs. It accomplishes nothing.

Unfortunately when upgrading to iOS 6 the setting to add Facebook Contacts to your Contacts app is on by default. But once the upgrade is complete you can go to:
Settings > Facebook > and turn off Contacts.
That will get rid of the Facebook stuff showing up in your Contacts app.
BTW, I also turned off Calendar on my iPhone and iPad so that Facebook events and Friend's birthdays etc. will not show in my Calendar app.
