Preventing third parties from using the TouchUp Text Tool on generated documents

While perusing the options of Adobe Acrobat at work I had the good fortune of finding the TouchUp Text Tool. Now I am trying find a relatively simple solution in order prevent third parties from using this same tool to easily modify pdfs we create from Mac Word 2011. My research has come up with applying a password/certificate/security policy but I have been unable to figure out how to apply one of these solutions automatically to all newly generated documents.
Is there a way to automatically apply a password/certificate/security policy on every pdf that is converted from Word 2011? Preferably one that does not involve additional investment in software. Or another similar work around.
Thank you in advance!

Please try to re print the document using Adobe PDF printer and make sure you embed the fonts during the conversion to new file.
Can you also upload few sample files for further investigation ?

  • Why can't I search/find text I added in a PDF with the TouchUp Text tool in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9/X?

If I use the TouchUp Text tool in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9/X to modify a text, the program can't find the added/changed text. But when I just delete letters/words in the text, the rest/changed words can be found. Is that a known problem? Is there any fix or workaround?

Fantastic. There is all sorts of nonsense out there on how to fix this problem, but your simple suggestion works perfectly. Thanks!

  • Return key not creating a new line when using the horizontal text tool

Going through the adobe after effects 'classroom in a book' examples - when writing a line of single line using the horizontal text tool pressing return does not create the next line underneath, the cursor stays on the same line?
Anybody out there had this problem?

    Hi Bill
    Thanks for replying!
My OS is windows 7. I think it is the first time I have needed to put more than one line of text in an after effects layer. I am new to CS5.5 - after effects and I'm going through an adobe tutorial  'classroom in a book' series book.
I thought about using a paragraph text box as you suggest but could not find the function in the tools menu.
I have since tried clearing the cache out and restoring default layout but with no joy.
I have used the return key for multiple line text in premier pro and it works perfectly ok.

  • Is there a way to prevent a user from using the graph cursor legend to delete a cursor?

I would like to have 2 cursors on a graph that can't be deleted by the user.

    Hi Dennis,
I'm having this problem as well, and found your post. Are you referring to the Enabled State of the entire graph?  If so, this prevents the user from moving the cursor at all while the VI is running, which, of course, defeats the purpose of having a cursor at all.  Ideally, I would like to show the cursor palette and disable it's run-time shortcut menu.  This doesn't appear to be possible.   One workaround would be to hide the palle and instead include some indicators that show the cursors' values.  I'd prefer to show the palette to keep the program simpler.
    Any other solutions?
    Thanks,

  • How do you prevent a user from using the playback bar to skip questions?

    Hi,
I am fairly new to Captivate and I had a question regarding the quiz feature in Cap4. I have some users testing the module for me and they are able to skip questions. I have done the following: 1. Made the quiz required 2. removed the review buttons.
Is there something I am doing wrong?
    Shal

    Hello,
You could hide the playbar, since it is not really needed for Question slides: on entering the first question slide you assign the value 0 to the system variable cpCmndShowPlaybar, and when you want to show it again, assign the value 1.

  • "Damaged" fonts in pdf file after using TouchUp Text Tool

    Hello,
I have a question regarding an issue with lost fonts in a pdf file.
The document was created in Adobe InDesign and printed to pdf.
However, after using the "TouchUp Text Tool" in order to check the font for a certain text, several attributes of the font have been damaged in the entire pdf: all characters in "small caps" have been transformed to regular.
We've had 3 cases so far.
Does anyone know how we can prevent this from happening again?
When exporting the document to pdf, all fonts were embedded, I am not sure if this can be the cause.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions!
    Paula

We are using Adobe 8 Professional.
Bill@VT, I am not sure what you are asking me
I have checked the Preferences for the pdf file and the "Use system fonts" case is checked.
When opening the pdf file, the fonts were ok, but somewhere along the process, the small caps were lost.
Maybe a print screen will be of use: the presentation above is the correct presentation (the one immediately after exporting to pdf); the presentation below is the one after all fonts were damaged.

  • Pro 9.0 crashes when using typewriter, touchup text, and comment toolbar

When I try to type something using the typewriter tool or commenting toolbar, I can type a few letters and then I get an error message saying Adobe Acrobat 9.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. The error relates to the acrobat.dll file.
When I use the TouchUp text tool, I also get an error message but the file affected is the cooltype.dll file this time.
Anyone no how to fix this? I am using Windows XP.

frstrsystemI make a fix, here it is:
    1) I launch acropro 9 on the server, I go to the view->toolbars->tasks menu to  the "tasks" toolbar (which cause the crash).
    2) on the server, run regedit and go to current user\software\adobe\adobe acrobat\9.0 and export this hive on a file like acrobat9_user.reg
    3) create a acro9pro.cmd file with
    regedit /S n:\scripts\acrobat9pro_user.reg
    @start "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\" Acrobat.exe
save this file on the server
publish your app and call the CMD instead of the acrobat file
trick; you can map drive into the cmd so that user can access network shares and not only the server on.

  • TouchUp Text Tool Issue

I am experiecning a strange issue on a PDF that was created from Microsoft Word 2007. It is a two page document but I am only able to use the TouchUp Text Tool on page one. I do not get the "I-Bar" cursor on page two to edit the text. The portion that I want to edit has a strange character in it, if that helps: It is obviously supposed to say "Yes" but, for some reason, it does not. I am using Acrobat version 9.5.5 on Windows 7 SP1 x64. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have also been getting formatting issues when simply trying to correct a typo (swapping two characters). After selecting the TouchUp text tool, I hightlight and copy a character, and paste it into the correct location. The entire line moves down a couple of points.
I tried CtDave's suggestion: Acrobat Prefernces > select the TouchUp Category
Toogle "Enable Text Word Wrapping" on/off - try use of the TouchUp Text tool in each 'mode'.
With Enable Text Word Wrapping, all kinds of unwanted word-wrap formatting takes place. But on unchecking Enable Text Word Wrapping, the TouchUp text problems seem to disappear.
This is an odd effect, and suggests a bug. Enabling and disabling the Text Word Wrapping option seems to fix the issue.
Looking at the issue in more detail, I notice that by pasted text has additional white space above and below it, which other characters do not have.

  • Touchup text tool causing formatting issue

We upgraded from Acrobat 8 Pro to 9 Pro and now when we try to use the touchup text tool the formatting gets messed up when you save.  It usually puts in extra spaces and pushes letters on top of each other.  Same document works fine if using the touchup text tool in version 8.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • TouchUp Text Tool on Adobe Professional 8.0

I am trying to add text to a document using the TouchUp Text Tool on Adobe Professional 8.0. When I go to "Help" to get directions on performing this task, it say to select the TouchUp Text tool, then Ctrl-click where I want to add text. A "New Font dialog box" should appear.
The problem is, when I Ctrl-click where I want to add text, nothing happens.
What am I doing wrong, and what should I be doing instead?

  • Is it possible to prevent users from using the ''Purge'' option from the ''Recover deleted items'' in Office 365?

    Hi,
After speaking with a Microsoft engineer over the phone, I've been told that there is no way to prevent users to go to their OWA and manually Purge specific items from the ''Recover deleted items''. The Microsoft tech told us to place the desired mailboxes
on a litigation-hold and that all data will be recoverable... but only from the time you place the mailbox onto Litigation-Hold and previous items, which doesn't take effect for new-coming emails.
1- From what I understand, any new items coming in the mailbox after the Litigation-Hold is put in place will still be ''purgeable'', right?
2- Is there a way (PowerShell, Security group, etc.) that can prevent a user from using the Purge option?
We are very surprised that there is absolutely no thread that talks about this issue, which in our opinion, is a major legal and security flaw from Office 365. This is a main concern for us to actually go with Office365. For instance, this means that at
any given time, if a user exchanges emails with a competitor, they can manually purge emails sent and receive as soon as it is sent/received, even after Litigation-Hold is in place.
Thank you for your reply and let us know if you have more questions.

    Thank you for the reply.
Is there still a way to prevent users from using the Purge option, like with a Powershell script to disable Purge?

  • TouchUp Text Tool not working?

I have Max OS X 10.4, Acrobat 8.1.2 and cannot get the TouchUp Text Tool to work? Can select text and delete/copy/paste etc but cannot add/change/modify any text from the keyboard? All keyboard text keys not working or changing data?
Was using Acrobat 7 and it worked great, however this version is just not cooperating.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
    Thanks,
    Ron

I talked to a very helpful person at Adobe Acrobat Tech support yesterday (Tony) and I *think* I have the problem resolved. [BTW, I don't see any definite mentions to this here: during this problem I was able to delete (using either of the delete keys) text and I was able to hit 'return' to get to a new line - while using the touch-up text tool. Also, I was able to create a new blank document and type in next fine too.]
After troubleshooting all the possible causes with Tech support (including manually trashing all the /user/library/preferences/acrobat (folder) and all the com.adobe.acrobat ..(8) preferences in the /user/library/preferences folder - and after reinstalling Acrobat 8 - the issue still wasn't fixed. I called back Tech Support and got the same person (Tony) and with him still on phone, I created a new user on my Mac -- recreated the text touch-up tool problem and Acrobat 8 worked just like it was supposed to do. -- so ... the problem was in my 'old' user account & probably a font problem.
Tony the Tech transfered me over to a Font Tech at Adobe (who was a rude, nasty s-o-b who barely spent 2 minutes with the problem, but that's IMHO) who told me the only resolution, since in his opinion I had a corrupted User account, was to trash my current User account on my system and start fresh -- no alternative! Since that wasn't acceptable to me, and since the Font Tech could or would not give me a straight answer about transferring fonts from my User/Library/Fonts to the computer (root, not system) /Library/Fonts and working on Acrobat that way .... or fixing any font problems in my current /user/fonts -- ..... I hung up the phone and resolved to track this down myself (with the help that was already given to me by Tony the Acrobat Tech.
The first thing I tried this morning was to see if the Acrobat 8 text touch-up 'bug' was still happening -- and it was.
So I spent the rest of this morning validating fonts and deleting duplicates -- (you know how those nasty duplicate fonts just appear even though you think you have them all removed a month or so ago). I also moved all my Adobe otf fonts over to my /Library/Fonts and deleted those same fonts from my /User/Library/Fonts.
I just fired up Acrobat 8 and tried the text touch-up tool --- and it works fine! No problem at all.
Final answer (at least for me) is --> validate all your fonts. I used Font Book (Mac OS) to do this. Delete any major errors on fonts you can live without. Some of the warnings you get (on the critical errors and caution warning both are confusing: 'name' table warning, for example. I did find an Apple Developer document that explains (to a small degree) what these mean: http://developer.apple.com/textfonts/TTRefMan/index.html
Definitely delete every duplicate font you find. I kept some non-duplicated fonts with minor warnings, but these fonts wouldn't be used in Acrobat anyway.
I don't know if moving the Adobe otf fonts to my root /Library/Fonts helped or not since I didn't do a test of this prior to any validation on my user/font file. It was just one step in my bug fix.
Let me know if this works for you all too.

  • TouchUp Text Tool problem

    Hello,
I'm using Acrobat Professional 8, and I'm trying to change text on a PDF document I received. I chose the TouchUp text tool, but when I tried to change the text I received this message:
"all or part of the selection has no available system font. you cannot add or delete text using the currently selected font"
I don't mind using another font, but I really need to change the text. how do i do it?
    thanks!

Select the text; right-click for properties; choose a font that you have on your system, and close. The text can then be edited.

  • Acrobat 8.2.4: TouchUp Text Tool is not functioning

I tried to use the tool to modify the font size of text in a Text Box.
Even though I can select the TouchUp Text Tool button, when trying to follow the instructions in the "Edit text attributes" in the help file, no Properties option poped up and I can't modify the font's attributes.
Historically, the user interface on this subject was always problematic but now it seems to be worse after it has been changed.
    Thanks,
    David

I think it was my mistake – because search of multiple words in the help doc is by default still an (inclusive) OR operation (and I don’t know how to force it to an AND operation), apparently the description I got referred actually to regular text in a document and not to Text Box text. As to the hard copy, it was not the Help but the “Classroom in a book” book and nothing about the subject there.
I also run into major problems with that Ctrl+E. Today, when I reopened the same document it worked for me yesterday, selected the same text in the Text Box, when performing Ctrl+E, it responded in the tool bar area with a message: “No current selection”… and refused to open that Edit Text Box menu bar. I have tried many things all in vain. I have then created a new text box with new text and then Ctrl+E worked, including for the original text box where it previously refused. Very odd. What am I missing?  Is there some general setting I need to set to avoid this “Now you see it now you don’t” behavior?
Also, for one brief moment, I could see the Ctrl+E option (didn’t get the verbal description) in one of the pulldown menus but it quickly disappeared and I can’t revive this situation. Do you know in what menu it should be and what is required to get it back, and hopefully staying there?
    Thanks

  • Now unable to use Touch Up Text Tool

Since 2007, I've used a mac laptop for creating invoices in Quickbooks and saved them as pdfs. They are saved to my 2009 IMac as acrobat (9.4.1. version) pdfs. Over the years I have, on occasion, made minor edits using the edit text tool.
Beginning yesterday, I am no longer able to use the text edit feature (system font not available?!?). See attached. It appears fine.
When I go into properties it say font not available
Can someone offer some guidance? Happy New Year!

It is a good practice to embed fonts if Touch Up Text is a tool you often use.
Is the person creating the pdf the person who is editing the created pdf? If not, my guess based on the exclusion list in your post is that the users have different versions of the Arial font installed. There are small, but significant, differences in kerning and line height between different Arial versions.
