Preview and capture video

Hi,
I'm fairly new to Java and I just came accross JMF.
I'm interested in creating an application that displays a live preview (upto 25fps) from a webcam (connected to a windows machine) and previews live audio from the mic.
Below the video preview I will have a 'Start Capture' button that allows the users to capture what they are seeing and hearing to an avi file (320x240, 25fps) until they press the 'End capture' button. While capturing it still needs to display the preview.
If possible would anyone be able to point me to some simple sample code, or email me some. (paul AT fenwd DOT co DOT uk)
Regards,
Paul

  • Preview and rendered video has distortion

    Hi,
I have scoured this forum but can't seem to find my exact problem. I am getting very jerky playback (which I have seen in other posts) but mine is getting this odd green distortion too. The distorion seems to happen the exact same place every time in the preview and the rendered video. Last week this problem was occuring so I went and updated Quicktime and deleted my media cache in Premiere. Something seemed to help... for a while. Now the problem is back and worse than ever.
Below is a screen shot of what I mean... Any ideas would be greating appreciated.

    Thank you Ann & Jim!
First, let me say you got me working. It was the video driver.
I did think of this before, but I went to Device Manager (Win7) and checked for driver updates there. There were none. But becuase you mentioned it, I pushed a little harder by going to Lenovo's site and downloading the latest drivers from there, not knowing if it's what I already have... It worked like a champ! Video looks pristine again.
Thank you, and please pardon my bone-headedness.
Just for giggles, I'm including my system specs in case it can help the next guy somehow.

  • How to upload and capture videos?

How do I upload videos to edit? How do I use the capture video option?
I'm a beginner so I don't know how to do much but I'll learn on the way. Any other tips / stuff I should know?

See this (a search on the premiere forums for FRAPS):
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?127@@.3bbe4d6a
One poster suggested you can simply set FRAPS to export DV AVI Type 2 - the file/codec format that PPro likes best. But your frame size will be an issue. If you are eventually going to DVD, you want to plan all that from the beginning.
FRAPS can be complicated, as you will see in the posts I linked you to.
Once you have your FRAPS file in an appropriate format, you just import it to PPro. (Go to the help file and look for import; you are not capturing.) You need your PPro project set to the right settings. (Look for project settings in help; if you don't find a way to set this up as DV, you may need Desktop editing mode.)
Check the PPro Wikia out; click on tutorials on the left. These are somewhat of a compromise between trial and error and training first.

  • Possible solution for no preview and capture problems

We are part-time, intermittent users of FCPro - so numerous upgrades of QT, system10, FCPro have taken place since last we captured or did any editing. Seems like all our presets from former use have disappeared, leaving us starting fom scratch. Not using a sophisticated set-up, still capturing through the ADVC-100 with a non-controllable camera. All I know is, last time I captured, everything worked, and I never have had the option of device control.
After my struggling with the no preview issue all day, my husband DID do some maintenance stuff (delete preferences, repair permissions, etc) but I don't think that was a factor. Try the following (keep in mind, the ADVC is a pass-through "thing"(?)):
    Audio/Video Settings
    Capture Presets
    Edit
    Name: DV NTSC 48 Khz
Quicktime Video Settings: Digitizer DV Video
    Input: DV-VCR
Quicktime Audio Settings: Device DV Audio
Please bother to post back if this solves your problem - then others will know it works.
Still having audio sample rate problem, so I may be back....

Using FCP 5.1.4 During the quest, I'm fairly sure we tried that repeatedly. I think the setting that made the difference between "working" and "not working" was the Quicktime (vers.7.2) setting for Input to DV-VCR. But you are right, I did need to reset the other setting in "capture now" screen to non-controllable device. I did look over past posts on this subject, and before I got cross-eyed from trying to digest too much techno-talk, I did seem to see a correlation with QT in people's observations.
Oh, and BTW, I wouldn't say it works like a charm - I keep having to go back to easy setup and re-choosing my settings. Sounds to me like something that is supposed to get re-set as part of the preview/capture procedure is actually re-setting the wrong variable, and creating a domino effect after that. There's bad code somewhere.

  • App to record screen and capture video from camera at the same time?

For the love of God, why is it 2013 (the age of YouTube and such), and I can't find an app that lets me record my hdv camera (canon hv30) AND the computer screen at the same time? I make piano tutorials on YouTube and my current workflow is so horrendous that I havent even made a video in almost a year. What should take 30 minutes, takes 5 hours. Here is my current shi**y workflow.
    1. I use iMovie Hd to capture hdv camera
    2. I use QuickTime X to capture the screen (i record a virtual keyboard display that lights up the keys I am playing)
    3. I have to use a DAW to record the piano sound and my voice since iMovie hd doesnt have the ability to record audio from a separate source than the camera, for some **** reason. (opening up and setting up all three programs takes about 8 minutes)
    4. I press "record" on all three programs as quickly as possible to make syncing easier. (my videos are about 7 minutes long, so this part takes about 7 minutes)
    5. After I record all 3 things, I export the video from iMovie into a friendlier format to edit in another video editor since iMovie doesmt have the ability to overlay the screencap over another video (****). (25 minutes)
    6. I render the audio I recorded in the DAW into a wave file. (another 10 minutes)
    7. I import the camera footage, the screen cap, and the audio file into the video editing program. (another 5-10 minutes)
    8. I sync the audio and video clips since they were recorded separately (2 minutes)
    9. I do all the edits (add intro, cut unwanted footage etc) (10 minutes)
    10. I re-render the footage into a final video file. (about 30 minutes)
This is fu*****g ridiculous. There is no ONE program that does everything I need, just diferrent programs that have a feature I need, but is missing another. For example, a program called "screen flow" let's me record the screen, a camera, and an external audio source all at once, but for some frisking reason, it doesmt support "hdv" cameras (basically anything that records HD). Then, there are programs that record HD, but can't record the screen at the same time. This is only an issue since I am on a Mac, since apparently there are countless of programs that can do all the things I need at once (so I don't have to resync, and render things like 3 times each) and many of them are even free (such as xsplit) but they only work in Windows. For the love of God why? It's 2013 for christs sakes. It shoudnt take me 5 hours to make a 7 minute video. If it wasmt for this turn-off, I would have thousands of piano tutorials on yourtube already.
So my question. Is there an app that fixes my workflow and allows me to do all the things I need in one program? If there isn't such a program, why isn't there one?

maybe you have outgrown or just need to look at the "pro" applications instead.

  • How to prevent frozen video (in both clip previews and exported videos)?

When imported into iMovie, some video clips do not show preview information when you scroll over them. They simply do nothing and stay on a frozen frame. After exporting a project with one of these clips in the timeline, when the clip should clip the video freezes on that one frame while the audio plays until the clip is over. I have tried converting these videos into several other formats, codecs, resolutions, bit rates, etc, with no success. A video that freezes in iMovie, always freezes in iMovie (or freezes when exported) and I can't find any solution to make these clips play when assosated with iMovie.
The clips playback file before importing into iMovie.
    OS X 10.7.5
    iMovie 9.0.8

    Hi aalincoln,
I had a similar problem. For me it was because my memory was reaching it's limits, not the space on my harddrive. I closed all other programs to make sure iMovie has all the memory it needs and played/export the clips again and it worked.
Try downloading Memory Clean or another solution to see your current memory usage.
    Hope this helps!
    Succes!

  • I spent the day logging and capturing video

and discovered (to my great dismay) that there is no audio on any of my work. I just upgraded to fcp 5.0 from 4.5. I captured a great deal of work in 4.5 and the audio is fine.
I have checked all of my hardware, no problem there. I capture using a Panasonic AG-DV2500 through dv firewire. The deck shows audio on its vu, and I can hear the audio on my external monitor.
Hopefully someone will give me a quick fix. I don't want to have to re-log and re-capture. I really don't have another day to spare on this project.
    Thanks,
    Jim

Just to clarify - there is no audio captured on any of your clips? (because that's what I'm reading. But I'm also a little burnt out today...)
Anyways, if that is the case, I'm afraid you'll have to re-capture, but you shouldn't have to re-log.
Since you're using FCP 5 try using the Modifiy Clip Settings function.
Or is there some other issue that I'm missing?

If so, convert them to .wav in iTunes to convert them to wav version, and then import the .wav version into Premiere Elements 13 project using Premiere Elements 13 Expert workspace's Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets from where you drag the wav version to the Soundtrack.

  • Audio lag from Canon XHA1 speaker during log and capture

    Hey All,
I'm working with a Canon XHA1. I'm logging and capturing video shot in HDV (1920 by 1080) @ 60i, . I can see the video on screen but the audio playing back from the camera is about half a second behind what I'm seeing on screen.
My video monitor on the camera sincs up fine with the audio during this process AND my final capture is fine. It's just hard to work with this audio delay during the log and capture.
Is this a settings issue? I don't think I can monitor sound through the computer during log and capture, right?
    Here are my settings:
    Sequence preset:
    HDV - 1080i60
    Capture preset: HDV
    Device control preset:
    HDV Firewire Basic
    Video Playback: None
    Audio Playback: Default
    Any suggestions?
AND can anybody tell me what Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 means?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Oh, and I neglected to mention I'm using a MacBook Pro running 10.4.10 and I'm running FCP 5.1.4

  • Captured video is stretched too wide

I connect my camcorder to my Mac with a Firewire cable and capture video but the result is stretched too much.
Instead of widescreen (16:9) it is more like 19.5 to 9!
I am new to Mac, I have a new Macbook Pro and am still learning.
The camcorder is a Sony DCR-HC62E using MiniDV tapes, not high definition.
I connect them with a Firewire cable, 4 pin at the camcorder end and 9 pin at the Mac.
I told iMovie it was Widescreen (16:9).
I tried USB but nothing happened, do I need a driver and how do I find one, I've not had much luck with the Sony website.

Does it look OK in FCP?
If so follow these instructions for outputting 1280x720 for the web.
    Select File>Export>Using QT Conversion.
Click the "Options"  button and when the the Options window opens you will see  "Size", "Settings" and  "Sound" buttons.
Click the Size button and set 1280 x 720
Click  the Settings button and  select:-
    Compression Type . . . . H.264
    Frame Rate . . . . . . . . . Current
    Key Frames . . . . . . . . . Automatic
    Compressor Quality . . . High
Encoding . . . . . . . . . . "Faster" encode will give almost the same quality as "Best" but is twice as fast - your decision!
    Data Rate . . . . . . . . . . Restrict to 3,000kbps  (Don't use a comma when you enter the number)
Then click the "Audio" button and make sure that AAC has been selected.

  • Cannot get log and capture to work

I have a JVC HD-GR1 camera and I am trying to log and capture my video using the 4 pin-9 pin firewire cable. It states that it is not recognizing the JVC camera. So I tried it in iMovie, it recognized the JVC camera but it was just a blue screen with a time code. What really confused me is that the computer will controll the camera (in iMovie) rewinding, fastforwarding and playing the video on the JVC Camera, but on the iMac it is still a blue screen on the log and capture video. Any ideas?

  • Capturing video using usb webcam in QTPRO

I have a duo core mac mini and QTPRO 7. I am preparing a lecture for teachers to record their demonstrations and lectures and then play them back to students. I am trying to use QTPRO and usb webcam to keep cost down for teachers. I have installed Maccam 8.8 and can recognize and choose usb camera in QTPro. I can even change compression and setting and capture video and audio. The problem comes when I stop the recording in QTPro. The newly created movie opens and then....the spinning ball of death starts to spin and never quits. I try to force quit QT (which isn't responding) but it won't quit. I have to shut down my mini and restart. At which point the movie created can be openned and played and everything is fine, until I try to capture another movie. It works but this is combersome. This is really inconsiderate of Mac, to make it so you can only use firewire cameras, of which I think only the isight is left. Used to be you could plug almost anything into a Mac and it worked. That was something that Made them great. Now well, lets limit the buyers. This problem also occurs on my MacBook Pro.
duo core mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you can afford it, use an iSight camera ( much better quality than most webcams, and AF as well) and Quicktime Broadcaster ( free) to record the video.
If you search you will find a few articles on how to use QTB to record to your HDD. Very good quality in good light.

  • MSI GF4-TI4800SE (VTD8X) - White Square in Captured Video?

    Hello,
When i try and capture video I get a big white bar across my captured video. I have the latest drivers, and Windows Xp....  any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Jon M.

Our forum "Search" option brings back a lot of decent results.
Click on the icon at the top of this forum and enter "white bar" (without parenthesis), in the "Search for keyword"  select match exact phrase, under "...where and how", select "Multimedia (VGA and optical drives)" don't change anything else and click on the "Search" button.
You should get at least 11 results.
some were reporting reverting to an older capture driver solved the problem. You are on your own, as I didn't take the time to see when these posts were made and/or if the older version of the capture drivers are available here.
You may have to look to a third party solution or a website, like Driverheaven or guru3D............Nvidia may help too but I do not know. Make sure you uninstall the capture driver properly before you install the other.
