Primary and stand by versions

Hello
i have primary 11.2.0.2 and can i have standby on 11.2.0.3 and does data guard works in this setup
only chnage is the .2 vs .3
any help /documents are appreciated

Hello;
You can check :
Oracle® Data Guard Concepts and Administration 11g Release 2 (11.2) E10700-02
See "Oracle Software Requirements" 2.3.2 Oracle Software Requirements.
The exact details are here :
Mixed Oracle Version support with Data Guard Redo Transport Services [ID 785347.1]
( Physical Standby Mixed Version Support to a Data Guard Physical Standby is NOT supported. )
Oracle Patch Assurance - Data Guard Standby-First Patch Apply [ID 1265700.1]
But your Primary and Standby need to be on the same major version of Oracle software.
There's a brief moment during an upgrade where they are not, but no redo is being applied.
Best Regards

You are correct, the CC version is activated with your Adobe ID and password after you have signed up for the creative cloud plan. You can uninstall that CC version and install the standalone. It is the same program, and will open the same catalog. You don't need to back up anything. Just change over to the standalone program and start Lightroom. Everything will function just the same6.

  • Redolog operation from primary to stand by database

We have primary and stand by database and our primary database is generating too much redo logs. what I learnt is reading of redlogs from primary is sequential operation. Basically this operation is taking more time. So is there any way to parallel the process of reading of redo logs from primary database.
Or I want a confirmation from oracle experts that this cant be done.

    Hi,
The process has to be serial from log to log as later events may be dependant on earlier events.
For an individual log increasing the value of recovery_parallelism from it's default of 0 may help in your standby.
    Cheers,

  • Primary and DG in different version

Hi i want to try to use 10g primary with 11g stanby.
    In doc i read :
The following conditions must be met before you can use the broker:
    ■ The primary and standby databases must be using the same version of Oracle
Database 11g and each can be installed in either a single-instance or multi-instance
    environment.
If do not use dg broker, can i use this configuration live the same compatibile parameter?
    tnx.

You can, but only with a Logical standby for the purposes of a rolling upgrade. But to get there the standby must first be created in a 10.2 home, converted to a Logical standby and then upgraded to 11g. See the manual at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28294/rollup.htm#BABGHIGF, the MAA paper at http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/maa/maa_wp_11g_upgrades_made_easy.pdf and Notes "785347.1 Mixed Oracle Version support with Data Guard Redo Transport Services" and "300479.1 Rolling Upgrades with Logical Standby".

  • Primary and DR server OS version can be different

    Dear All,

Now we are going to configure Data gaurd, can we install REHL 5 or 6 because 4 is not supported any more. please guide me.
    Thanks & regards,
    Sher khan

    Sher khan;
    Your questions
Now we are going to configure Data gaurd, can we install REHL 5 or 6 because 4 is not supported any more. please guide me.
I am asking regarding release. see primary server is REHL 4 can I install REHL 5 on DR, both are 64bit. is there will be problem.I'm guessing you have at least two issues :
End of support of Red Hat Server 4.
What Version of Red Hat to use.
Unless something has change very recently you cannnot use Red Hat Server 6. So that leaves Red Hat Server 5.
Now I'm reading between the lines some but it appears you may have a third issue, How to upgrade your OS without touching Oracle.
What I have done is install Red Hat on a completely separate partition. For 64 bit this is at least 30 GB since you need an 8GB swap area.
If you do this, this leaves only two small Oracle files in the /etc directory :
    oraInst.loc
    oratab
If your OS people can keep track of the Oracle OS user and its crontab ( if you have one ) then the OS can be upgraded without touching Oracle.
My oratab file is simple and easy to recreate or save off :
    # This file is used by ORACLE utilities.  It is created by root.sh
    # and updated by the Database Configuration Assistant when creating
    # a database.
    # A colon, ':', is used as the field terminator.  A new line terminates
    # the entry.  Lines beginning with a pound sign, '#', are comments.
    # Entries are of the form:
    #   $ORACLE_SID:$ORACLE_HOME:<N|Y>:
    # The first and second fields are the system identifier and home
    # directory of the database respectively.  The third filed indicates
    # to the dbstart utility that the database should , "Y", or should not,
    # "N", be brought up at system boot time.
    # Multiple entries with the same $ORACLE_SID are not allowed.
    PRIMARY:/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.2:YMy oraInst.loc is even smaller :
    inventory_loc=/u01/app/oraInventory
inst_group=oinstallIf you setup the OS on a separate Partition you can repair, recreate or upgrade it without ever touching Oracle. Mind you there may be some downtime, but damage to the OS should not cause damage to Oracle.
So if and when Red Hat Server 6 is supported you are in position for that upgrade. If not you are in position for an OS move.
But more importantly you avoid rework and not only is your OS not controling Oracle, Oracle is not controlling your OS ( as long as you can compile you are good ).
This is the note I would look at :
Data Guard Support for Heterogeneous Primary and Logical Standbys in Same Data Guard Configuration [ID 1085687.1]
Number 13 is the one I would look at.
Even if you have Heterogeneous Support, think ahead. You might not next time.

  • Lightroom 6 stand-alone version and creative cloud desktop app

Will the stand-alone Lightroom 6 version install also "creative cloud desktop" application (like the cc trial) or will it be really a stand-alone software, without any other software (which will continuously and silently connect to the internet) "bundled" ?
    Thanks

Thanks, that's unfortunate.. I'm planning to update and I really hoped that buying the stand-alone version would have resulted in having a different installer but to me it's a selling factor not having additional software that does its things online without asking (which, if blocked with a firewall, prevents the trial of LR to work at all).
I'll try to understand if the cc will also be uninstallable afterwards keeping lr6 working correctly (if you'll try to uninstall it in a month, please let me know).

  • Setting up a primary and secondary Database in Oracle 10G

    Hi Experts
can you please tel me the steps involved in creation of primary and secondary database? This is the first time i am going to configure this setup. Please provide your helping hands.
    Thanks alot in advance,
    Ram

    Absolutely glad to help.
Step 1: Clarify what it is you are trying to build. Are you talking about a Standby Database? Perhaps Physical or Logical Data Guard? If so what protection mode? Stand-alone or RAC? Or are you just trying to dup an existing database on another server in which case you can just use RMAN.
Step 2: Go to http://tahiti.oracle.com and read the relevant docs
Step 3: Go to http://metalink.oracle.com and look at the Knowledge Base docs
If you have any question thereafter contact us and be sure to include your version number, not a marketing label. 10g is a marketing label that refers to everything from the 10.1 Beta through 10.2.0.4.

  • How to re-synch primary and standby database?

    Hello everyone,
Working on 10g R2/windows server 2003, I have configured a physical standby database but, I have an issue, and don't know how to resolve it.
We were making an update that made some DDL and DML on our application, and for security reason we
    1. we ensure that primary and standby are in sync
    2. We made a cold backup of the primary database
    3. We Deferred the redo shipping between primary and standby
    4. We applied changes on primary database
But the big issue is that, for any reason my colleague did the following.
    a) made above steps 1,2,3,4
    b) after the update he kept the resulted archived log files generated during to another location
    c) He restore the cold backup before the update(step 2 above)
    c) he applied again the update.
    Now the issue is
At the first update step(2), the sequence# 553 was applied to the stand by before the update
At the second update step(c) above another sequence# 553 was created but stored localy in the primary database, because the both servers were deverged (step 3 above).
Technically both servers cannot be in sync again, because sequence# 553 at the first update has next_change# 80307804 and sequenc# 553 at the second update has next_change# 80461356.
    Question:
How Can I do to rollback the the first sequence# 553 ( before the first update) on the standby database? in order to apply the sequence#553 generated at the second update and then re-sync both servers to roll forward subsequent sequence#? 554,etc...
    Thank you for your help

  • Primary and Standby CM question

In general, Primary and Standby CM's database tables, configurations, group polices should be sync'd up and looked identical, right?  What else will be different and will require to import onto standby CM manually?  Things like: SSL certificate, Secure store encryption...etcs.
    Thanks!
    Joe

    Hello Joe,
I don't think you're leaving anything behind in regards how primary and standby CM  sync works, just follow the steps from the configuration guide and everything will be taken care,if there was any doubt just let us know what WAAS software version your running and the specific question. Critical files like Secure-store and SSL certificates will be automatically sync as well.
Still, in my experience I stronly suggest to make sure your devices time settings are right.
Time settings is very important for the sync to work fine, best way is to use an NTP.
Please find the attached link to configure NTP and timezone:

  • Primary and Standby, RMAN errors 8137 and 8591

    Hello,
I have to resolve a serious problem of synchronization of two databases, one primary and one standby.
I receive on the RMAN scripts these two errors : RMAN 8137 and RMAN 8591. I well know what these errors mean. The archivelogs were not sent on the standby, and so they are still needed, and not deleted.

I have tried several times to do incremental backup on the primary, apply it on the standby, but it never worked, except for the current_scn which changed on the standby. The archivelogs are still needed on the primary, unfortunately.
    What could I do next?
Starting a new incremental backup starting with sequence 20852?
Deleting by force all the archivelogs? And in that case what to do for the standby?
Starting a new incremental backup taking the current scn of the standby?

  • Diagnosing an ASM space issue for a primary and a standby database instance with external redundancy.

I've received an alert from Enterprise manager saying "Disk Group DATA_SID requires rebalance because at least one disk
is low on space". My colleague who I would go to with this question is unavailable, so this is a learning opportunity
for me. So far google and Oracle documentation have provided lots of information, but nothing that answers my questions.
I've run the following query on both the primary and standby databases ASM instances:
    select name, disk_number, sector_size,os_mb, total_mb, free_mb, redundancy from v$asm_disk;
On the primary I get 4810M Free space and 18431M Total Space
on the standby I get 1248M Free space and 18431M Total Space -- this is the one that complained via OEM
When I run the following query in the database instance:
    select sum(bytes)/1024/1024 MB from dba_segments;
    I get 3736.75M as a result.
    My questions are:
    1. Will OEM's suggestion to rebalance the disk actually help in this situation since the instance is set up with external redundancy?
    2. If I've got 18G of space and only 3.7G of data, why is OEM complaining?
    3. How can I reclaim what I presume is allocated but unused space in my problem disk group?
    4. How can I determine what extra data the standby has that the primary doesn't since both have the same total space allocation, but different amounts of free space?

Thank you for the reply. That link is very good.
We are an 11.1 version of our database. Linus is OEL 5.6.
So, looking at the portion of the link that refers to 'Add Standby database and Instances to the OCR' - If we use SRVCTL to give the STANDBY the role of ‘physical_standby’ and the start option of ‘mount’, what effect will that have if the STANDBY becomes our PRIMARY?
Would these database settings need to be modified manually with SRVCTL each time?
We understand why the instance is not starting when the node is rebooted, we are looking for a best practice of how this is implemented.
    Thank you.
