Redolog operation from primary to stand by database

We have primary and stand by database and our primary database is generating too much redo logs. what I learnt is reading of redlogs from primary is sequential operation. Basically this operation is taking more time. So is there any way to parallel the process of reading of redo logs from primary database.
Or I want a confirmation from oracle experts that this cant be done.

Hi,
The process has to be serial from log to log as later events may be dependant on earlier events.
For an individual log increasing the value of recovery_parallelism from it's default of 0 may help in your standby.
Cheers,
Harry

  • Archive Deleted from primary database

    Dear Experts
    I have configured physical standby database on oracle 9.2.0.1
    an archive has been deleted from primary database. and it is not applied on standby database.
    How can I synch my standby database with primary database?
    please help me out
    thanks

    Do not need configure rman. Try this.This mean is you will get all changes from primary database without logs(archivelogs becuse you loss these) then apply these to stand by.This is a best way.First change SCN from Standby database then do these.
    You can get SCN from standby as
    select min (checkpoint_change#) from v$datafile_header

  • Error while registering RMAN from primary to catalog database

    Hi all,
    Here we have a 10g dataguard environment with db1(db_unique_name) as primary and db2(db_unique_name) as physical standby database. Also we configured one schema on a third machine as catalog database using following steps.
    The steps executed in catalog database(appsdb):
    SQL> create tablespace rmancatlog_tbs datafile '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/NEW/rman_catalog.dbf' size 500M autoextend off extent management local segment space management auto;
    SQL> create user rman identified by oracle
    2 default tablespace rmancatlog_tbs
    3 quota unlimited on rmancatlog_tbs
    4 ;
    SQL> GRANT connect, resource, recovery_catalog_owner TO rman;
    RMAN> create catalog;
    recovery catalog created
    Added tns entries of catalog database in primary and standby. Then from primary database we tried to register to catalog database. It is showing that it is registering. But every query afterwards in rman is throwing the error. Below are the steps and error:

    My standby database version is 10.2.0.5 which in wondows 2008 server in ASM instance.

    I tried many time by doing manuall..manuall its hapening but again sometimes its stucks and waits for next missing archivelog.

  • How do the application servers connect the new database after failing over from primary DB to standby DB

    How do the application servers connect the new database after failing over from primary DB to standby DB?
    We have setup a DR environment with a standalone Primary server and a standalone Physical Standby server on RHEL Linux 6.4. Now our application team would like to know:
    When the primary DB server is crashed, the standy DB server will takeover the role of primary DB through the DataGuard fast failover. As the applications are connected by the primary DB IP before,currently the physical DB is used as a different IP or listener. If this is happened, they need to stop their application servers and re-configure their connection so the they coonect the new DB server, they cannot tolerate these workaround.
    Whether does oracle have the better solution for this so that the application can automatically know the role's transition and change to the new IP without re-confige any connection and shutdown their application?
    Oracle support provides us the answer as following:
    ==================================================================
    Applications connected to a primary database can transparently failover to the new primary database upon an Oracle Data Guard role transition. Integration with Fast Application Notification (FAN) provides fast failover for integrated clients.
    After a failover, the broker publishes Fast Application Notification (FAN) events. These FAN events can be used in the following ways:
    Applications can use FAN without programmatic changes if they use one of these Oracle integrated database clients: Oracle Database JDBC, Oracle Database Oracle Call Interface (OCI), and Oracle Data Provider for .NET ( ODP.NET). These clients can be configured for Fast Connection Failover (FCF) to automatically connect to a new primary database after a failover.
    JAVA applications can use FAN programmatically by using the JDBC FAN application programming interface to subscribe to FAN events and to execute event handling actions upon the receipt of an event.
    FAN server-side callouts can be configured on the database tier.
    FAN events are published using Oracle Notification Services (ONS) and Oracle Streams Advanced Queuing (AQ).
    =======================================================================================
    Who has the experience and the related documentation or other solutions? we don't have the concept of about FAN.
    Thank very much in advance.

    Hi mesbeg,
    Thanks alot.
    For example, there is an application JBOSS server connecting the DB, we just added another datasource and put the standby IP into the configuration file except adding a service on DB side like this following:
            <subsystem xmlns="urn:jboss:domain:datasources:1.0">
            <datasources>
                    <datasource jta="false" jndi-name="java:/jdbc/idserverDatasource" pool-name="IDServerDataSource" enabled="true" use-java-context="true">
                        <connection-url>jdbc:oracle:thin:@<primay DB IP>:1521:testdb</connection-url>
                        <connection-url>jdbc:oracle:thin:@<standby DB IP>:1521:testdb</connection-url>
                        <driver>oracle</driver>
                        <pool>
                            <min-pool-size>2</min-pool-size>
                            <max-pool-size>10</max-pool-size>
                            <prefill>true</prefill>
                        </pool>
                        <security>
                            <user-name>TEST_USER</user-name>
                            <password>Password1</password>
                        </security>
                        <validation>
                            <valid-connection-checker class-name="org.jboss.jca.adapters.jdbc.extensions.oracle.OracleValidConnectionChecker"/>
                            <validate-on-match>false</validate-on-match>
                            <background-validation>false</background-validation>
                            <use-fast-fail>false</use-fast-fail>
                            <stale-connection-checker class-name="org.jboss.jca.adapters.jdbc.extensions.oracle.OracleStaleConnectionChecker"/>
                            <exception-sorter class-name="org.jboss.jca.adapters.jdbc.extensions.oracle.OracleExceptionSorter"/>
                        </validation>
                    </datasource>
                    <drivers>
                        <driver name="oracle" module="com.oracle.jdbc">
                            <xa-datasource-class>oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver</xa-datasource-class>
                        </driver>
                    </drivers>
                </datasources>
            </subsystem>
    If the failover is occurred, the JBOSS will automatically be pointed to the standby DB. Additional actions are not needed.

  • Adding Temp tablespace to physical stand by database?

    I am getting the below error when i try to load data using SQL loader from physical stand by database to another database after making the physical stand by database in read only mode.
    ORA-25153: Temporary Tablespace is Empty.
    On primary database when i query
    SQL>select ts#,name from v$tablespace;
    TS# NAME
    2 TEMP
    On physical stand by when i query
    SQL>select ts#,name from v$tablespace;
    TS# NAME
    2 TEMP
    On primary DB when i query
    select name from v$tempfile where ts#=2;
    NAME
    /dev/vx/rdsk/oradata/tempfile0101
    On standby when i query
    SQL>select name from v$tempfile where ts#=2;
    no rows selected
    At this point do i need to add datafile to the TEMP tablespace of stand by database or just need to add TEMP tablespace to stand by database.?
    DB version:9.2.0.6
    Thank You all...

    Can you make sure that /dev/vx/rdsk/oradata/tempfile0101 is copied to standby site during the standby creation. Often it happens that the hot backups are copied to standby ste and generally they dont contain temp files. If the files is present , then i'll suggest you to do a quick bounce of standby instance to make sure that controlfile attempted to access it. You can also try recreating the standby control file on promary and copy it to standby site along with the tempfile and start the instance with new control file.
    If you want to add temp files to the standby instance, the only option you have is to add them on primary site. If you have standby_file_management as auto they will get copied over. If not you can copy the files to standby instance and restart the recovery.
    Please let us know if any of the hints are applicable to your case.

  • Manually Apply Archived log to stand by database

    Hi all,
    I'm using Oracle 10g. So, we need to apply the archived logs of Primary database to stand by database, but this process must be manually.
    A "robot" copy the archived logs to destination. I need to get these archived logs from destination and manually apply to stand by database.
    How can I do this?
    thank you very much!!!!

    How can I do this?First stop current recover process as
    alter database recover managed standby database cancel;Then transfer all need archive logs from primary to standby side and apply these manually using below command.
    recover standby database until cancel
    /*this command will ask full path of archive logs
    and give these then finally enter "CANCEL" word*/Finally you can continue normal/automatic state using
    alter database recover managed standby database ;

  • [Forum FAQ] How to configure a Data Driven Subscription which get multi-value parameters from one column of a database table?

    Introduction
    In SQL Server Reporting Services, we can define a mapping between the fields that are returned in the query to specific delivery options and to report parameters in a data-driven subscription.
    For a report with a parameter (such as YEAR) that allow multiple values, when creating a data-driven subscription, how can we pass a record like below to show correct data (data for year 2012, 2013 and 2014).
    EmailAddress                             Parameter
    Comment
    [email protected]              2012,2013,2014               NULL
    In this article, I will demonstrate how to configure a Data Driven Subscription which get multi-value parameters from one column of a database table
    Workaround
    Generally, if we pass the “Parameter” column to report directly in the step 5 when creating data-driven subscription.
    The value “2012,2013,2014” will be regarded as a single value, Reporting Services will use “2012,2013,2014” to filter data. However, there are no any records that YEAR filed equal to “2012,2013,2014”, and we will get an error when the subscription executed
    on the log. (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\LogFiles)
    Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.InvalidReportParameterException: Default value or value provided for the report parameter 'Name' is not a valid value.
    This means that there is no such a value on parameter’s available value list, this is an invalid parameter value. If we change the parameter records like below.
    EmailAddress                        Parameter             Comment
    [email protected]         2012                     NULL
    [email protected]         2013                     NULL
    [email protected]         2014                     NULL
    In this case, Reporting Services will generate 3 reports for one data-driven subscription. Each report for only one year which cannot fit the requirement obviously.
    Currently, there is no a solution to solve this issue. The workaround for it is that create two report, one is used for view report for end users, another one is used for create data-driven subscription.
    On the report that used create data-driven subscription, uncheck “Allow multiple values” option for the parameter, do not specify and available values and default values for this parameter. Then change the Filter
    From
    Expression:[ParameterName]
    Operator   :In
    Value         :[@ParameterName]
    To
    Expression:[ParameterName]
    Operator   :In
    Value         :Split(Parameters!ParameterName.Value,",")
    In this case, we can specify a value like "2012,2013,2014" from database to the data-driven subscription.
    Applies to
    Microsoft SQL Server 2005
    Microsoft SQL Server 2008
    Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2
    Microsoft SQL Server 2012

    For every Auftrag, there are multiple Position entries.
    Rest of the blocks don't seems to have any relation.
    So you can check this code to see how internal table lt_str is built whose first 3 fields have data contained in Auftrag, and next 3 fields have Position data. The structure is flat, assuming that every Position record is related to preceding Auftrag.
    Try out this snippet.
    DATA lt_data TYPE TABLE OF string.
    DATA lv_data TYPE string.
    CALL METHOD cl_gui_frontend_services=>gui_upload
      EXPORTING
        filename = 'C:\temp\test.txt'
      CHANGING
        data_tab = lt_data
      EXCEPTIONS
        OTHERS   = 19.
    CHECK sy-subrc EQ 0.
    TYPES:
    BEGIN OF ty_str,
      a1 TYPE string,
      a2 TYPE string,
      a3 TYPE string,
      p1 TYPE string,
      p2 TYPE string,
      p3 TYPE string,
    END OF ty_str.
    DATA: lt_str TYPE TABLE OF ty_str,
          ls_str TYPE ty_str,
          lv_block TYPE string,
          lv_flag TYPE boolean.
    LOOP AT lt_data INTO lv_data.
      CASE lv_data.
        WHEN '[Version]' OR '[StdSatz]' OR '[Arbeitstag]' OR '[Pecunia]'
             OR '[Mita]' OR '[Kunde]' OR '[Auftrag]' OR '[Position]'.
          lv_block = lv_data.
          lv_flag = abap_false.
        WHEN OTHERS.
          lv_flag = abap_true.
      ENDCASE.
      CHECK lv_flag EQ abap_true.
      CASE lv_block.
        WHEN '[Auftrag]'.
          SPLIT lv_data AT ';' INTO ls_str-a1 ls_str-a2 ls_str-a3.
        WHEN '[Position]'.
          SPLIT lv_data AT ';' INTO ls_str-p1 ls_str-p2 ls_str-p3.
          APPEND ls_str TO lt_str.
      ENDCASE.
    ENDLOOP.

  • How to restore standby from primary after failover.

    HI we have a dr setup but the standby is provided archives through an application not the datagaurd.
    So for applying application patch I cant switchover the database.
    I have to shutdown the primary database and apply failover to the standby database to apply patch.
    Can you please tell how can I restore my standby database to actual primary after failover.
    As our actual activity will be in 2 weeks time. We want to apply patch on saturday.
    DR DRILL is on 8th nov.

    Your earlier statement "Can you please tell how can I restore my standby database to actual primary after failover"
    means something different from "SO have to restore from cold backup of primary database"
    What you seem to want is a procedure to recreate the Standby from a Backup of the Pirmary. (ie FROM Primary TO Standby).
    You haven't specified your Oracle Version. DG has been available since 9i (was even backported to 8i) but I will presume that you are using 9i
    You should follow the same process as used for the first creation of the standby, except that you don't have to repeat some of the setup steps (listener, tnsnames etc)

  • How to delete an operation from order using the bapi

    Can somebody please tell me how to delete an operation from order using the bapi
    BAPI_ALM_ORDER_MAINTAIN.
    Following was the test data for the BAPI.
    000000 OPERATION DELETE 0000040052810070
    000000 SAVE 0000040052810070
    Even I tried entering the operation table. The BAPI control ends fine, but when I check the order using IW32, the operation still exists.
    So, can you please tell me where Iam going wrong.

    Hi Subash Mohanvel,
    Check bapireturn parameter of the bapi BAPI_ALM_ORDER_MAINTAIN after execution of the code , and if there is no error message in the return table then call bapi_Transaction_commit.
    Unless you call this database saving of the records/values will not get reflected in the system.
    Hope that helps.

  • Archived Log is not shifting from Primary to DR

    we have increase the table size without taking care of DR, so
    sapdata1 becomes 100% at DR site after that applying archived had
    stopped at DR, after that i manually added datafile using following
    commands,
    select * from v$recover_file where error like '%FILE%';
    Primary-:
    1)select file#,name from v$datafile where file#=33;
    /oracle/BP1/sapdata1/sr3_21/sr3.data21
    2)select file#,name from v$datafile where file#=34;
    /oracle/BP1/sapdata1/sr3_22/sr3.data22
    alter system set standby_file_management =Manual;
    DR-:
    1)select file#,name from v$datafile where file#=33;
    /oracle/BP1/102_64/dbs/UNNAMED00033
    2)select file#,name from v$datafile where file#=34;
    /oracle/BP1/102_64/dbs/UNNAMED00034
    alter database create datafile '/oracle/BP1/102_64/dbs/UNNAMED00033'
    as '/oracle/BP1/sapdata1/sr3_21/sr3.data21';
    alter database create datafile '/oracle/BP1/102_64/dbs/UNNAMED00034'
    as '/oracle/BP1/sapdata1/sr3_22/sr3.data22';
    alter system set standby_file_management =Auto;
    alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from
    session;
    after that all logfile which is available at DR is applied but now
    automatic shifting from primary to DR is not happen, please check and
    provide the solution as early as possible because if log gap increase
    we have to go for backup and restore and our DR site is so far.

  • Diagnosing an ASM space issue for a primary and a standby database instance with external redundancy.

    I've received an alert from Enterprise manager saying "Disk Group DATA_SID requires rebalance because at least one disk
    is low on space". My colleague who I would go to with this question is unavailable, so this is a learning opportunity
    for me. So far google and Oracle documentation have provided lots of information, but nothing that answers my questions.
    I've run the following query on both the primary and standby databases ASM instances:
    select name, disk_number, sector_size,os_mb, total_mb, free_mb, redundancy from v$asm_disk;
    On the primary I get 4810M Free space and 18431M Total Space
    on the standby I get 1248M Free space and 18431M Total Space -- this is the one that complained via OEM
    When I run the following query in the database instance:
    select sum(bytes)/1024/1024 MB from dba_segments;
    I get 3736.75M as a result.
    My questions are:
    1. Will OEM's suggestion to rebalance the disk actually help in this situation since the instance is set up with external redundancy?
    2. If I've got 18G of space and only 3.7G of data, why is OEM complaining?
    3. How can I reclaim what I presume is allocated but unused space in my problem disk group?
    4. How can I determine what extra data the standby has that the primary doesn't since both have the same total space allocation, but different amounts of free space?

    Thank you for the reply. That link is very good.
    We are an 11.1 version of our database. Linus is OEL 5.6.
    So, looking at the portion of the link that refers to 'Add Standby database and Instances to the OCR' - If we use SRVCTL to give the STANDBY the role of ‘physical_standby’ and the start option of ‘mount’, what effect will that have if the STANDBY becomes our PRIMARY?
    Would these database settings need to be modified manually with SRVCTL each time?
    We understand why the instance is not starting when the node is rebooted, we are looking for a best practice of how this is implemented.
    Thank you.
