Prime Infrastructure 2.1 - Config Archive

In PI2.1, is it possible to send the config archive of my devices to a network drive?  TIA

PI will always save the configurations into its database. That database is always on the PI server itself.
You can export the configurations from the database via a manual process - you could probably script it and kick it off via cron if you are handy with that sort of thing.
The export process is explained in a post by Vinod Arya in the Prime Infrastructure Ask the Expert thread.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 config deployment (no copy run start)

I have deployed some CLI templates I have created to configure multiple local accounts on some switches. However the cli templete only appears to accept conf t commands, it will not accept 'write mem' or 'copy run start' at the end to save the altered running config to startup. this results in running and startup being 'out of sync' in the configuration archives, and runs the risk of a power failure causing the config to revert back to startup. Does anyone know how to ensure the altered running config is saved to startup during the config template deployment?

I don't know if this has been fixed in 2.0 or not.  By the looks of the bug it hasn't.  However, there is a workaround-

  • Prime Infrastructure delegate specific config changes - wireless controller

    Hello,
I have a customer that would like to delegate control for two items on a WLC to a sub-group within their organization.  They'd like to allow this group to change the PSK on a specific WLAN on their WLC 5508 and also add/remove/change mac addresses from the Mac Filter list whenever necessary.
They'd like to restrict the group to only be able to make these two specific changes and not be able to change anything else on the controller.  Is there a way in PI to restrict this group so that they can only make these changes?
I can see that in 2.0 I can require job approval which may work as some part of the restriction.
    Any thoughts/ideas/help?

add a new group (choose on of the user defined groups). Mark the options you want to have. (network configuration)

  • SCP IOS Image Upgrades in Prime Infrastructure 2.1 Failing

Hi I'm running PI 2.1 with all the latest patches and packs but I can't get SCP Image transfers to work.
When I check the suggested logs from the Jobs Dashboard (and jump into the CLI root)  I see the following:

It looks like the switch is trying to log into the PI server and download the software as opposed to PI sending the software to the switch.
I've used WinSCP to open up the URL, but none of the passwords I know or created work.
Do I need to SSH into the PI box and create a new CLI account (or Root CLI account) that matches up to the switch [SWITCH-ADMIN-LOGIN]?
    Regards,

    Hi rowansakul,
The work around for this particular issue involves having a user set up in the root cli and then from the the GUI navigate to Administration > System Settings > Image Management and set up the SSH Username with your new user account that you created under root cli.  That is the credentials that Prime is looking for when it is attempting to access its own image repository.

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.0 - Alert on Switch Config Change

We are in the process of testing out Prime Infrastructure 2.0, is there a way to get an alert when a device's configuration has changed, and send out what has changed in email? I have scheduled Config Archiving for all of my devices, and i can see the config differences when a changes is made in the Prime GUI, but we currently use Kiwi CatTools to send out emails that show what devices had configuration changes and what those changes were, it would be nice if Prime would do that so we could do away with that service. I have looked through all of the reports but do not see anything.

    Hi,
I know this feature is there is LMS ,where you can configure the AUTOMATED Action based on Syslogs to get an Alert for config change or any other changes ,however I do not see this option available in PI  2.0.
Syslogs are not compltely supported in 2.0 but in PI 2.1 we should have the complete support for syslogs.
    Thanks-

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.0 sync config tasks

    Hi,
I'd like to know few things about PI 2.0 config handling:
    1. Can PI save running config to startup config on a scheduled basis? Let's say once a week on all devices.
    2. Can PI save running config to startup config whatsoever?
    3. Can PI download running config when it receives a config trap from device when user enters/exits config mode?
    4. Can PI export running and startup configs to a external location?
    Thanks!

    Hi ,
    1.
*Scheduled-You can schedule when Prime Infrastructure collects the configurations of
selected devices and specify recurring collections by selecting Operate > Configuration
    Archives, then clicking Schedule Archive.
    like  minute ..daily etc...
    3. ASAI K ,this feature work on the bases of syslogs .. we do not have complete support in PI 2.0 yet so I think bases on config chnage syslogs or traps ,config will not be fetched.
    4. for tihs check the below thread:

  • Cisco Prime 2.2 Config Archive get Partial-Success

    Good morning everyone!
I have a question regarding Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2 and Config Archive. Im trying to backup a configuration for an old WS-CBS3020-HPQ blade with IOS version 12.2(58)SE1 and im getting an error under "Fetch vlan" that says :
Couldn't able to collect VLAN on the device. TFTP server not accessible from device.
Im not sure what this means? It gets partial-success, but the error message worries me. Im not able to find anything in the logs or by searching for the error code. Anyone have any idea where to look? The credential is correct, i tripple checked :)

I tried using the "tftp-server flash:" command, but didnt help. Im also seeing this problem with a couple of Cisco 3750x switches.

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.0: Running an inventory sync removes "snmp-server location" in running-config

    Hello,
    we're running Prime Infrastructure 2.0 (version VA-2.0.0.0.294).
I was scared as I figured out one hour ago that running an inventory sync (Device Work Center) removes the command snmp-server location and adds the command snmp-server host "PI-ip address" "snmp rw community" in the running-config.
Has someone the same behaviour or can reenact this scenario?!
Can someone imagine that this behaviour has something to do with a configuration setting in PI?
I'm perplexed and got gray hair now.
Thank you for your answers or tips.
    Bastian

    Hello Rob,
I just successfully installed the patch. The snmp-server location is not touched anymore while running a inventory job.
But PI still enters this string in the running-configuration:
snmp-server host "PI-IP address" " our snmp RW community- string"
although there already exists the entry:
    snmp-server host "PI-IP address" version 2c "community-string (not the snmp rw-community-string)"
Do you or anyone else has the same behaviour that PI adds automaically himself as snmp trap receiver with the SNMP-RW community?
    Regards
    Bastian

  • Search Archive in Prime Infrastructure 2.2

We use Prime Infrastructure 2.2 which does not seem to have a search feature for the Configuration Archive as we had with the Cisco Works LMS.
Is it something that has been taken out or is there now another method of collecting this data?

    Hi Wai King,
    Good day!
Based on my research, it is possible to have mix services on Prime Infrastucture, however, it is not recommended. PSSW and ESW have different support levels and as such, the coverage might differ on each license if you have a mixed services environment.
Technically you can go for ESW for 50 LF licenses and PSSW for 25 additional licenses. But logically it doesn't make sense. You should either go with ESW or PSSW depending upon whether it is Cisco Direct/CBS or Partner Branded.
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Jen C.

  • Pushing Configs to devices using Cisco Prime Infrastructure

    Hi All,
I am trying to push a simple configuration to WLC using Prime Infrastructure. But it is failing as PI doesnot have RW SNMP access.
My question is that can I use PI to push configs without using SNMP. Like do it using ftp or something.
Also do the Wired Devices also need SNMP RW access on PI's part.
    All your help is appreciated.
    Mukul

    You need SNMP RW.
If you use CLI template you need ssh/telnet credentials though.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure release 2.1 configuration archiving on CISCO WiSM2

    Hi all,
Just wondering Cisco Prime Infrastructure  release 2-1 support configuration archiving on CISCO WiSM2?
CISCO  release 2.0 mentioned that it doesn't support configuration archiving for WiSM2 but release 2.1 doesn't mention anything on it.
    Please assist.

No, it is not supported even for PI 2.1

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure Scheduled Configuration Archive not executing

We have a deployment of Cisco Prime Infrastrcuture 1.3 (1.3.0.20).
Configuration Archive is a feature that collects and archives the device configurations i.e. cisco switches.
You have an option to schedule this to run, say daily, weekly etc. Once scheduled you can see it in the "Jobs Dashboard" and with the "next start time" of what you configured. I have a situation whereby  the time it is suppose to start - it doesnt - howevere flags the job as a "success". Not newe device configurations are archived and the "next start time" remain the same. Its almost like it is failing to execute, but some other process under the hood thinks that it was been executed correctly?
Any ideas or experience that could help here would be appreciated!

Some extra info that has just come to my attention.  At one point we were running (we're actually still running) CiscoWorks with LMS3.2 and Cisco NCS 1.x.  I merged these two things together into Cisco Prime Infrastructure (upgraded the licensing to get 450 lifecycle licenses to cover the APs + all of the devices coming from LMS3.2).  I followed all of the documented procedures to upgrade the NCS appliance to Prime Infrastructure.  But when I type "show application" from the CLI of the NCS appliance (now the Prime Infrastructure appliance) I see this:
    HQ-NCS1/admin# show application
NCS             Cisco Prime Network Control System
Is that normal?  Maybe this is my problem.  Should this output list "Cisco Prime Infrastructure" instead of (or in addtion to) Cisco Prime Network Control System?  When I login to the GUI it shows "Cisco Prime Infrastructure" and the GUI has changed considerably (menus are different) so I'm assuming that the application upgrades I launched from the CLI to go to Prime Infrastructure worked fine.

  • Prime Infrastructure and WLC 2504 N+1 config syncronization

I've setup 2 cisco 2504 WLC's in a N+1 configuration, before we purchased Prime Infrastructure.  Now I'm trying to syncronize the configurations between the two devices in PI.  I've setup a configuration group, and it seems using templates will keep the configuration syncronized between the two devices.  Is it possible for PI to automatically create the templates based on the current configuration of the device.  Plus with PI 2.1 it seems like I have to create a template for every section of the configuration, shouldn't there be just one large template that has all the configurations.

Yes, you should be able to discover templates from the WLC

  • Prime Infrastructure Netflow Config

    Hi guys,
I am trying to configure Netflow monitoring on Prime Infrastructure. Do you guys know if I can change the port 9991 which Prime listens to another port number?
If possible, how to do that?
    I have the 2.0 express.
    thanks.

I hear you. Add your voice to the choir. :)
SNMP Traps are just one source of Alarms. You can and should deploy a device health monitoring template (or customize one) for PI to actively query device (or interface etc.) health.
