Print slow from Linux

Hi, I have this HP printer in my company (installed on the LAN).If I want to print a document with multiple page or multiple document (the go in the printer queue), there is a time between each document and each page of the document printed (like 1-3 seconds), if I print from Linux (Ubuntu 14.10 and Ubuntu 15.04)I don't have this time when I print from Windows. Is it a problem due to Linux driver? The driver is : HP Officejet Pro X476-X576 MFP Postscript (recommended) (color, 2-sided printing) Thank you.

>> ... Is it a problem due to Linux driver? ... Probably - but as I have no access to this printer model, nor to any *n*x systems, I can't confirm. I suspect that the linux driver may render each page as a series of encapsulated, compressed raster images, which the printer unencapsulates and uncompresses, then prints the resultant dots. It may be that the Windows driver uses a much more efficient command set, especially if the source document being printed is primarily text, rather than bitmap images.

  • Print command from linux PC on to Windows Environment

    Hi Experts,
We have SAP on Windows and the network printer is also on Windows, the PC with Linux is integrated with network printer i.e when the print command from Linux is given the output is available from the printer (Windows). But when the print command is given through SAP there is no output from Printer (Windows).
When same user logs into Windows the printer command is successful.

    hi hari,
Printing SAP documents using Linux client is a little bit tricky if you want to get good printing result just as when you print from your Windows client.
If you want to use G printing method (on Linux client), you can't use SAPWIN on device type since SAPWIN is relying printing method. You must use exact printer driver. For example when you're using Dot Matrix printer Epson LX300+, you can use EPESCP2
I am using different method to cheat this and it's completely work.

  • How do I use a cups printer on a linux machine from mountain lion

I have always used a linux cups printer on my network from my iMac. You could even browse the printer when looking for it. Worked fine.
Now in the updated Mountain Lion (10.8.2) is cannot see the remote printer anymore.
If I create the printer using cups through the web interface on my iMac, which is conected to the linux server, I can create teh printer, and print a test page on this printer on the linux server! Great.
But I cannot pick the printer from a list from any application on my Mac. It is as if it does not exist (but I can print a testpage though ...).
This a a real bad change in Mountain Lion. I consider to go back to Lion (10.7).
Isn't there any way to get this working or do I realy need to downgrade to 10.7
    Thanks for any hints!

    Hi VikingOSX and Grant Bennet-Alder.
Thanks for the replies, but unfortunately, they do not work.
The solutions you suggest are all OK for 10.7.x (and I have used them before), but these steps do nothing in 10.8.2. No difference at all.
I have also tried various other suggestions I found on the web and in this forum, such as:
    cupsctl BrowseRemoteProtocols=cups
    cupsctl BrowseProtocols='"cups dnssd"'
They all seems to work (and I needed them before in 10.7.x), but they don't seem to help any more in 10.8.2
To illustrate the problem, I have tested the following 4 cases (in this particular order) on iMac 10.8.2 through CUPS web browser leding to teh following (copied text from CUPS web interface):
    Step 1:
    Description:          EPSONserver
    Location:          server
    Driver:                    Local Raw Printer (grayscale)
    Connection:          http://192.168.1.94:631/printers/R285
    Defaults:          job-sheets=none, none media=unknown
    Jobs
▼ ID ▼          Name          User          Size          Pages          State          Control
    EPSONserver-23           Unknown           Withheld           1k           1            processing since Sat Oct 6 14:59:57 2012 "Printing page 1, 85%"
    Result step 1:
Test page: via CUPS web browser, OK. works just fine, full color and everything looks just fine
Printer in printer list: No, installed printer not available in OSX.
Can print from application: No, printer not in printer list. Cannot select printer.
    Step 2:
    Description:          EPSONserver
    Location:          server
Driver:                    EPSON SP R285 Series (color, 2-sided printing)
    Connection:          http://192.168.1.94:631/printers/R285
    Defaults:          job-sheets=none, none media=na_letter_8.5x11in sides=one-sided
    Jobs
▼ ID ▼          Name          User          Size          Pages          State          Control
EPSONserver-24           Unknown           Withheld           1k           Unknown            stopped "Filter failed"
    Result step 2:
Test page: via CUPS web browser: NO. "Filter failed"
    Printer in printer list: YES
Can print from application: NO, "Filter failed".
    Step 3:
    Description:          EPSONserver
    Location:          server
Driver:          Generic PostScript Printer (color, 2-sided printing)
    Connection:          http://192.168.1.94:631/printers/R285
    Defaults:          job-sheets=none, none media=na_letter_8.5x11in sides=one-sided Jobs
    Result step 3:
Test page: via CUPS web browser: low resolution/bad quality, black and white test page
Printer in printer list: YES, it remained in printer list when changed from step 2 to step 3.
Can print from application: Yes, but bad quality, not useful at all.
Step 4 = change settings back to step 1 :
    Description:          EPSONserver
    Location:          server
    Driver:                    Local Raw Printer (grayscale)
    Connection:          http://192.168.1.94:631/printers/R285
    Defaults:          job-sheets=none, none media=unknown
    Result step 4:
Test page: via CUPS web browser: OK. works just fine, full color and everything looks just fine
Printer in printer list: it disappeared from the printer list at the moment the changes back from step 3 to step 1 were activated.
Can print from application: No, printer not in printer list. Cannot select printer.
    Overall conclusion:
The printer appears in the printer list only when it is a postscript printer or using manufacturer drivers (i.e epson drivers). It does NOT appear when using a RAW printer (but works fine printing test pages through the CUPS web interface).
10.8.2. seems to have a serious bug.
Any help? Or is downgrading to 10.7 my only solution?
    THX for reading!

  • Printing format problem from Linux GUI

    Hi!
We have configured Printer for Linux Clients with "U" access method and users are able to take print out through Linux GUI.  However, the printout is not in desired format.  For example, PO printout has rows, columns, lines, borders, etc. which are printed correctly through Windows Printer. But when we take printout from Linux, lines, borders, logos, etc. are not printed, and only raw printout is fired.
I believe some ABAP development has to be done. Can anybody help in this regard please.
    Regards,
    Pankaj

    hi pranav,
ABAP-ers usually create those program (smartforms or ALV list) using SAPGUI for Windows so if you switch print them using SAPGUI for Java it's going to be different either print out nor print preview.
I used different technique so that my Linux client can print program (that had been created using SAPGUI for Windows) without changing any code on the program.

Rather than use SMB to connect from Lion to the Windows XP printer share, a better method is to enable Print Services for UNIX on Windows XP and then use LPD on the Mac to print via the Windows share.
To install Print Services for UNIX on Windows XP:
Log on to the Windows server with an administrative-level account.
Start the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.
    Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
Click Other Network File and Print Services, and then click Details.
Click to select the Print Services for UNIX check box, and then click OK.
Follow the instructions on the screen to finish the installation
If you haven't done so already, share the printer on Windows XP and make the name one word - no spaces or special characters
With the print services enabled you can then create the printer queue on Lion.
Open Print & Scan and click + to add a printer
Select the IP icon and set the protocol to Line Printer Daemon - LPD
For the Address, enter the IP address of the Windows XP computer
For the Queue name, enter the share name set for the printer in Windows XP
Name and Location are free text so you can set this to something meaningful
For the Print Using menu, select the supporting printer driver. Note that like connections via SMB, the vendors driver for Lion in some cases cannot be used and an alternate like those offered by the Gutenprint suite must be used.
Click the OK button to complete the queue creation.
Now you are ready to test the new print queue.

  • How to set printer options when direct printing from Linux AS Sevr.?

We have a problem like this: Our app server is a 10g R2. We want to DIRECTLY print reports to a HP LaserJet 1320 PCL 6 which is attached to a Windows print server.
We can print the reports from the Oracle Forms (we use reports builder to create a PDF in a directory and then using HOST command we print it).
The command we use is lp -d LaserJet sicl_rcpdebtnt_5.pdfProblem is the printout comes with the top 10% of the page not printed. i.e. the printing starts from about 10% of the PDF. The header and top information is not printed.
We tried the scaling option: lp -o scaling=75 -d LaserJet sicl_rcpdebtnt_5.pdfBut that also has no effect.
What can we do to print the entire PDF in ONE page. When we open the PDF in Windows and prints it we have to say Fit to printer margins for the printer's page scaling property.
How to set this in command line Linux???

Since you are not printing directly from Reports (destype=printer) this is not really a Reports issue I guess. Maybe you should ask this in a Linux forum.
    However:
we have to say Fit to printer margins looks to me that there is a mismatch between your Report design and paper format. Check page size and margins in Reports Builder.

  • IPP Printing from Linux or Mac to Windows server

I have windows server 2003 R2 ent with ipp printing installed. All windows clients are ale to connect, install and print to a shared printer via ipp. When connecting via a linux or mac machine, I am not able to print. I am asked for the creditionals to print but it does nothing.
The ipp server is set to accept authentication via Intergrated Windows Authentication. I had read this is compatible with firefox and other browsers.
Is there any particular settings I am missing on this one?
The goal is to require only domain users access to the printers.

    Hi,
    Thank you for posting here.
Since we can print from Windows clients properly, it indicates Windows Printing Server is working OK. Base on my research, we may have to setup a CUPS server so that Linux client communicate with CUPS Server and CUPS communicate with Windows Printer Server using IPP. For your reference:

  • Can't print anything from Chromium anymore

    Hello,
So I wanted to print a web page from chromium, I pressed CTRL+P as usual, but the pop up window I am used to see did not appear this time. Using the "Print" entry from the menu didn't work either.
However, as soon as I pressed CTRL+P or clicked the Print entry, chromium became very slow, I could hardly open a new tab, close an existing one...
What I have tried without any success:
    - Starting chromium from a terminal, in order to see if anything special was happening => Nothing
    - Downgrading from chromium 23.0.1271.91-1 to chromium-23.0.1271.64-1-x86_64.pkg.tar => The issue remained unsolved
    Anyone else noticed this ?
    Thanks !

Just updated to chromium 23.0.1271.95-1, the problem still occurs
No one else but me is experiencing it ?

  • Printing slow

Adobe Reader and Acrobat are printing extremely slow from Windows 8 to HP Officejet 8630. Any suggestions appreciated.

    Hi chxqbl,
In the print settings try bypassing spooler and print directly to the printer and check.
What is the pdf producer of the documents you are trying to print and the size?
Does it also occur if you are trying to print a 1 page sample pdf document?
What happens when you try to print to Adobe PDF printer first and then print the document to the printer?

  • My mac keeps freezing when i try and print anything from preview. any ideas as to what the issue is or how to fix it?

my mac keeps freezing when i try and print anything from preview. any ideas as to what the issue is or how to fix it?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • My iMac is printing duplexed documents on a wirelessly connected Epson printer extremely slowly (minutes), but prints fast from and IOS device using AirPrint.  Settings don't offer any help.  Can anyone advise, please?

I have a one-year old (intel) iMac, now running on Mountain Lion.  I have a wireless network with an Epson Photo Stylus PX830FWD printer which has an auto-duplexer.  My problem is that when I print a two-sided document, the print takes minutes rather than seconds.  It prints at normal speed if I use the print facility on my iPad or iPhone (AirPrint), which suggests that the Mac settings are at fault.  I have been through all the settings on System Preferences that I can find, but nothing makes any difference.
I didn't notice it prining at slow speed on Snow Leopard or Lion OSX!
    Any suggestions, please?

I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15947486#15947486
On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

HP Photosmart 8750 prints slow when using Photo Gray Cartidge ... sometimes indicates Black Cartridge failed, however upon reinserting works slow

Welcome to the HP Forums ButchG,
I see by your post that when printing with the photo gray cartridge the black cartridge will indicate that it has failed.
I can help you with this issue.
I would do a power reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
With the printer still turned on, disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer, if the printer has external power module with a detachable power cord disconnect it for 15 seconds and then reconnect it.
Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to drain the power.
Then disconnect the power cable from the wall outlet.
Wait 10 seconds and reconnect the power cable back to the wall outlet first, then the back of the printer and power it on again.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector)
I have provided a document for the cleaning the contacts and reseating the cartridge.
'Cartridge Failed' or 'Cartridge Not Compatible' Error Message.
    What are the ink levels?
Are you using Genuine HP Cartridges?
Check the date on the cartridges to make sure they are still in warranty. (not old stock)
If you need further assistance, let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • Flash 10 Prints slow

My C# program uses AxShockwaveFlashObjects.AxShockwaveFlash to run SWF files.
The SWF file has code inside it to print a report.
Everything was fine in Flash 9.
But when some computers are upgraded to Flash 10 the print jobs are slow.
the Flash 10 print slowness is caused by the print job size going from 512 KB to 128 MB in size.
In most cases I can't uninstall Flash 10 because other apps need Flash 10.
Is there a way to speed up the print jobs or reduce the size of the print job in Flash 10?
Note: only some computers have the problem.
It happens on XP, Vista, Win 7

Hi, I wouldn't think the chip would matter, since Flash Player is a browser plugin. An ActiveX Control Installed in IE and a SWF for the non-IE browsers. Flash files are Installed into the C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash for all browsers and they work with those aforementioned add ons.
What may be affecting your performance is the hardware acceleration that is turned on by default. You can turn it off and see if there is an improvement. You can use this Adobe test site and when you see the Adobe Flash logo, Right click on it and Settings, Display Settings. UN check the box. Also while you are there the site will tell you what version of Flash Player you have Installed. You can do this for each browser.
Without checking I don't know what chip I have, but I use XP/SP3/IE6/Flash Player vs 10.1.82.76 and have no problem.
I know there are many XP's out there and MS is doing there best to have everyone to upgrade:-) Also, IE9 I hear is coming out of beta on 9/9/10, Win8 is being prepared and the last day to buy a new XP, I think is October this year. Forgot the date. IE9 will only be available for Vista and Win7.

  • Pixma Pro-10 prints first print slow

    Hello everyone,
I'm looking for some help with my Pixma pro-10 and I'd be eternally grateful if anyone could solve my problem.
I've had the printer for just under a year and in the past 3 months the issue has started happening more often.
The printer intermittently prints slow, and it seems to happen when I change paper sizes.  Lets say we're printing multiple copies of the same print, the first one will always print slow, then consecutive versions always print at normal speed.
My set up is MacBook Air 2GHZ 8GB RAM running latest version of Yosemite 10.0.2
    I have tried:
Reinstalling printer driver by resetting printing system in system prefs.
    Reinstalled canon print studio pro.
    Changed USB cables
We have two macs and its the same on both macs.
It happen's when we print PDF's from preview so we're thinking its not specific to canon print studio pro.
We genuinely only ever use canon inks.
I have contacted Canon and they suggested sending it away for repair which is an option but I want to exhaust every avenue before I do that.  It just seems like a software issue somewhere and it making me tear my hair out, haha.
Thank you so much for any help anyone is willing to give.
    Regards,
    Mark

It is possibile the printer is faulty.  No doubt.  You know, anything made by the hand of man...............
But you probably have the exact same software, drivers, on either and each machine.  I still think I would go there first.  It is going to be a pain to mess with getting the printer to a service person if it truly is the culprit.  You need to be sure.
