Printer name change
MY photo software can't print to a printer name greater than 31 characters. No problem with USB name but printer name for wireless has "(network)" after it making it too long. How can I change the printer file name in the PC printer menu?
This question was solved.
View Solution.
Open the Printer and Faxes folder. Right-click on your printer. Select Rename, and name the printer what you need. That should be all you have to do.

Hp Deskjet 1010 Printer name change
I tired to change the name of my printer. This is the message I keep getting, "Printer properties cannot be displayed. Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network". Someone please help. I think I messed something up.
Welcome to the forums Tonya!
I noticed your post about how you tried to rename the printer.
Which operating system are you running and have you tried Uninstalling the Printer Software and reinstalling it? That should do the trick for you!
If you are running Windows, you can also run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Please let me know and I will certainly look into this some more for you!
Have a great day

Share Name, Printer Name and display name for End User
We are being forced to standardize printer names. So, for example, a printer that is on the print server might have the following properties:
NAME: PR25739
SHARE NAME: Clinic Admin Office
SERVER NAME: A700500
The share name seems to be pointless - almost vestigial. When a user maps to the printer, it is named (on their device) PR25739 on A700500. They can't change it, I can't change it - indeed, the Name field is disabled during the Install Printer
Wizard. The whole point of the share name, to me, is to make something that is user-friendly with context and useful information. But the sharename seems to be completely ignored. Is there any setting I can change that will make this printer
map so that it is displayed to the user as Clinic Admin Office or even Clinic Admin Office on A700500? Solutions that must take place on the EUD are not solutions - the name needs to be correct out of the box.
Thanks.Unfortunately, no. The standardization mandate specifically states "printer name" - changing the Share Name was my last ditch attempt to inject some sense and serve my users. Right now, I have 5 printers mapped, and they look like this:
PR25737 on A700500
PR25739 on A700500
PR12336 on A700500
PR35127 on A700500
PR29764 on A700500
I know to use the location field in the printer dialog, but I don't expect my users will - and without that, even I can't keep up with what printer goes to what physical device. -

How can I change the network printer names?
What model printer is it?
Generally speaking, Bonjour can't help you with renaming. It is a "service discovery" protocol.
But if you tell us the model, someone may be able to help with renaming. -
To change the printer name while printing the invoice
Hi,
I have a requirement like if there is already an entry in NAST table with o/p type ZURD and printer name USJC-PM03,then an error message has to be displayed like 'This Output already printed in USJC-PM03,Change the printer name 'USJC-PM03' to 'LOCL' and then print' on the vf03 screen.
But even if I change the printer name from 'USJC-PM03' to 'LOCL',it is showing the same error message. This message should not be shown.
I have used the following code in the program.

When should be done for the error message not to be shown when the printer name is 'LOCL'.Hi,
Here my requirement is first the user has to check the nast table if there is any entry with o/p type ZURD and printer 'USJC-PM03' .If there is an entry then an error message 'This Output already printed in USJC-PM03,Change the printer name 'USJC-PM03' to 'LOCL' and then print' has to be displayed.
Then if i close this popup window which is showing error message and change the printer name from 'USJC-PM03' to 'LOCL', and click on execute button, the printer name is not getting changed and still the error message is getting displayed. How to remove this error message? -
Hi,
I have a requirement to change the printer name when the user tries to send the invoice with the same o/p type second time also. How to change the printer name?We have a field in NAST table which tells us whether the copy is printed for the first time or more then once. Read the value basing on the output type (i.e., Message type in nast table)
Now in your driver program & modify the parameter OPTIONS that are passed to function module OPEN_FORM, goto Option and pass your printer name according to your requirement.
Ex: if <print> = 1.
<printer name> = 'XXX'.
if <print> GT 1.
<printer name> = 'YYY'

Name change to Minefield when downloaded fix for printing problems
I downloaded the fix for Firefox beta 12 for the printing issues and now firefox name changed and the icon changed. Is this right?
You have downloaded a development build. Beta versions use the Firefox name, but the development versions use the name Minefield. As you have downloaded a development version you will get updates every day. The development versions are mainly intended for testers and developers who need to test the cutting edge changes.

Changing AppleTalk printer name
I have a Personal LaserWriter 4/600PS and I need to have its name changed. Unfortunately, I no longer have a machine that runs OS9. I have a MacBook Pro that can only boot into OS X. This printer is originally a LocalTalk printer. I us a Farallon Ethernet bridge so that I can have the printer talking to the ethernet port of the computer. This is what the setup looks like:
Printer <--localtalk-->Ethernet Bridge<--ethernet-->MacBook Pro
Thanks for the help!If you can cart it to a friend or associate who has a Mac that can run Classic or Mac OS 9, you can change its name. The name and attributes are recorded in a semi-permanent memory inside the printer, and will be retained when you put it back on your own Network.
It also appears that if the name is all you want to change, you can use
System Preferences > Print and Fax > Set Up Printers > (select the printer)
and choose "Show Info" from the "Printers" menu. You will be shown a screen that contains a drop down menu with three sub-screens
• Name and Location
• Model
• Installable Options
On the Name and Location sub-screen the name can be changed, and the button at the bottom will then turn into an "Apply Changes" button.
Most folks are looking to change additional options, such as Startup page Yes/No, Print density, or get page count, which are not settable using these simple Mac OS X screens. -
Remove Printer Name from Crystal Report
How can i remove the printer name from the Crystal Report so that the PrinterName property of the CRAXDRT.Report object in the RDC SDK is blank WITHOUT having the "No Printer" Option checkbox checked?
Here's the scenerio. When I first create a Report and don't go into Page Setup, PrinterName property is blank. If I go into Page Setup and explicitly select a printer, PrinterName property equals the name of the printer selected. If I check the "No Printer" checkbox in Page Setup, PrinterName property is blank. But if i go back in and uncheck the "No Printer" checkbox in Page Setup, the PrinterName property equals the name of my Windows Default Printer.I'm still not sure what is unclear about my first question. And I'm not sure how any of the info you are requesting is going to make any difference in answering my question. And I'm not sure how your analogy fits here but ..
Version of CR = 11.0.0.895
CR Service Packs applied = None
Web or Win app? = Win App
OS? = Windows XP Service Pack 3
Development language? = Both Visual Basic 6 and C#.Net 2008
Method of CR files deployment = email the .RPT file to a client
Where were the runtime files downloaded from? = Runtimes are installed from Merge Modules donwload from SAP site
What is the version of the craxdrt.dll on the deployed box? = 11.0.0.893
So here are the exact steps so you can understand what is going on:
I have the Crystal Reports Application open side-by-side with my Visual Basic development environment in debug mode so i can step through the code using the RDC SDK.
1. I open the Crystal Reports Application and create a brand new report - "Test.RPT" and DO NOT go into Page Setup at all and save the report.
2. In my Visual Basic development environment, i run the code that will generate the report, Here's the exact code
Dim m_crApp As CRAXDRT.Application
Dim m_crReport As CRAXDRT.Report
Set m_crApp = New CRAXDRT.Application
Set m_crReport = New CRAXDRT.Report
Set m_crReport = m_crApp.OpenReport("Test.RPT")
3. When i look at the PrinterName property in the CRAXDRT.Report object, it is blank.
ie. crReport.PrinterName is equal to ""
4. I reopen the Crystal Reports Application with report "Test.RPT" and go into Page Setup and check the "No Printer" option.
5. I go back into my Visual Basic development environment and rerun the code that will generate the report.
6. When i look at the PrinterName property in the CRAXDRT.Report object, it is still blank.
ie. crReport.PrinterName is equal to ""
7. I reopen the Crystal Reports Application with report "Test.RPT" and go into Page Setup and uncheck the "No Printer" option. I have NOT specified any printer, nor have i clicked the "Printer..." button to setup a printer....i have just unchecked the "No Printer" option
8. I go back into my Visual Basic development environment and rerun the code that will generate the report.
9. When i look at the PrinterName property in the CRAXDRT.Report object, it is now set to my WINDOWS DEFAULT PRINTER, yet i had not specified any printer.
ie. crReport.PrinterName is equal to "
MyNetwork\MyPrinter"
PROBLEMS:
1. The client needs the report to go to the default windows printer of their machine
2. If the "No Printer" Option is checked, the Report does not print at all
3. If the report is set to MY default windows printer and i give it to the client, at times it takes upwards of to a minute for the Print Dialog to disply. As i've read on other forum posts, it appears Crystal is looking for MY printer on the clients machine and takes a minute before i realizes it can't find it and then sets it to the CLIENTS default windows printer.
4. The client believes it is unreasonable to wait a minute for the print dialog to appear ...and i agree.
5. I cannot change the code to use the Select Printer in the RDC SDK - it's a long explanation why but just suffice it to say that i cannot do this.
All i want to do is either:
1. Remove the Printer Name in the actual report from the Crystal Reports designer - basically undoing what Crystal did when i went into Page Setup.
2. Via the RDC SDK, be able to detect the "No Printer" option is selected. Checkign CRAXDRT.PrinterName equal to "" is not an option. -
I can not print a report from my quicken program because the printer name has the word on in it
I recently purchased and installed a HP Officejet Mobile L411 printer. For all apps. on my computer (Window&) the printer name is as follows: HP officiate Noble L411. On my Quicken program the printer name is as follows: HP Officejet Mobile L411 on USB001. In checking Quickens help/troubleshooting guide, Ifound thirst statement, make sure the printers name doesn"t contain the word "on". My question is how do I get my printers name in Quicken changed so it doesn't contain the word "on"
Try opening the PDF in Preview and see if it will print out of it.

ReportSDKPrinterException: Printer name could not be set
I am working on testing a web application with BOE XI V 3.1. I have the database and RAS machines setup. I have been working on changing my app to printing through the RAS. I have print preview and export working, but am running into issues printing to a printer.
On the RAS which is on a virtual machine, I have a printer setup as a local printer to a tcpip port so the VM can access a printer on our network. But when I call the clientDoc.getPrintOutputController().printReport(printOptions); I get the error message ReportSDKPrinterException: Printer name could not be set.
I have also on the side been testing using a small jsp modified from a working print preview.
Here is the jsp:

PrintReportOptions printOptions = new PrintReportOptions();
printOptions.setPrinterName("Dell");
clientDoc.getPrintOutputController().printReport(printOptions);
clientDoc.close();

The code from AlwaysRequiredSteps_UnmanagedRAS.jsp is:

// Modify this path to the location of the report on your system.
String path = "rassdk://C:\\reports\\ReportList.rpt";

I would really appreciate any help in figuring out how to print to the RAS.
Thanks in advance.Hi Jason,
Could you please let us know the complete Business Objects version with Service Pack and Fix Pack?
Actually the issue you are facing was identified as a bug and was fixed in Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.1 FixPack 2.2.
Please go through the SAP Note: 1417374 - Error "Printer name could not be set" when printing using the RAS SDK.
Hope this helps.

Can't see printer name in the print dialog box as the printer name is too long
This is actually causing siginificant pain as I am using a tablet and moving around a number of floors/buildings needing to be able to print from where I am.
When printing from Acrobat reader, the print dialog box that comes up does not have a horizontal scroll bar and does not fit in the names of the printers in my organisation. We are unable to change the printer name, so it basically means that when using Acrobat, we can't select a printer.
All other windows applications show more characters and also have a horizontal scroll bar in the print dialog box so you can scroll across to see the rest of a long printer name. Why is acrobat not using the standard windows print dialog?
Has anyone come across this? Help! This is the Acrobat forum, not the Reader forum. In the future you should check there. I am not sure why you can not change the printer name, unless you do not have administrator rights. The name of the printer has nothing to do with where the print copy is sent. It is just for the purpose you mentioned of identifying the printer to print to. If you are not the administrator, ask your IT folks to change the name for you and explain why.

Running Mavericks OS on MacBookPro...had some hard crashes past 24 hours...forced reboots....now can't print anything from Office or Firefox. Both crash during print dialog - changing printer causes instand crash. My system printed fine before the crashes yesterday. I can print from the Stickies app and safari printed fine. I did a full Shutdown/restart and that didn't work. Ideas on how to get PPT files to print again or print from firefox??
