Hp Deskjet 1010 Printer name change

I tired to change the name of my printer. This is the message I keep getting, "Printer properties cannot be displayed. Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network". Someone please help. I think I messed something up.

Welcome to the forums Tonya!
I noticed your post about how you tried to rename the printer.
Which operating system are you running and have you tried Uninstalling the Printer Software and reinstalling it? That should do the trick for you!
If you are running Windows, you can also run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Please let me know and I will certainly look into this some more for you!
Have a great day

  • HP Deskjet 1010 printer to Chrome book

Hi, I have a Dell Chrome book and just bought a HP Deskjet 1010 printer. I tried all of yesterday to print of documents to no avail. I literally spent the day Googling but have come across different answers. I also bought the USB but some some suggestions say dont use it others do!!. Also some posts say that the printer is not compatible with Chromebooks. Have also registered with Google Cloud printers. I desperately need to print documents off today for interview tomorrow. I have tried various instructions but still not workng PLEASE HELP!! THanks

    Hey there @Hannah1000!
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
I can see that you have the Deskjet 1010 that you are trying to work with your Chrome book.  Unfortunately the devices are not compatible.  In order to use an HP printer on the Chrome book it will need to be be WiFi connected and support the HP Eprint feature.
The Deskjet 1010 is not Eprint compatible and in order to setup the WiFi in the printer it needs to be plugged into a computer running Windows or Mac and you have to use the CD to configure the WiFi through a USB cable.  The Chrome book only has Google Chrome installed and that is all.  Everything is done through the Google Cloud servers and your unable to install CD's on it.
There is another way to add the Printer to a Chrome book and that's called "add a classic printer".  Using this method will require you to have another computer that the printer is connected to WiFi or USB.  In order for the Chrome book to see the printer this way the other computer will need to be on at all times to share the printer.
I was able to locate a document regarding Connect your classic printers with Google Cloud Print.  If you have a Windows or Mac computer you may be able to set the printer up on the Chrome book this way.  If your unable to set the printer up this way I would suggest checking into printers that are Eprint compatible.
Thanks again for posting on the HP Forums and enjoy your day!

  • Printer name change

MY photo software can't print to a printer name greater than 31 characters. No problem with USB name but printer name for wireless has "(network)" after it making it too long. How can I change the printer file name in the PC printer menu?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Open the Printer and Faxes folder.  Right-click on your printer.  Select Rename, and name the printer what you need.  That should be all you have to do.

  • New Deskjet 3520 - print has changed to draft quality now I have changed connectivity of printer

    Hi,
Hope that you can help me
I have a new Deskjet3520 printer. It was working well via USB connection and I was happy with the prints that came from it
I have now connected now via wireless connection.
The system did all the hard work and I was very impressed with how easy it was.
However, I now have a problem, I have printed off a sheet of text that is all black text with the email address part in blue. The prints are coming out as if in draft format - pale grey with the blue portion coming out pale pink!
I haven't changed any settings, just trying to print off text.
Just tried it agin and now thgere are just faint markings on the page
I have checked the setup and it is definately set for colour printing and NOT for draft
I only purchased the printer late December and it has HP inks
    Can anyone help me please?

It sounds like the Deskjet 3520 has developed a print quality issue.  It doesn't appear that the printer has begun using a draft mode, but instead has most likely gotten some ink dried up in the ports of the printhead for the unit.
Have you tried running the Clean Printhead utility in the Setup menu of the printer?
Follow these steps to run an automatic utility to clean the printhead.
Load letter or A4, unused, plain white paper into the paper tray.
On the product control panel, press the Down Arrow ( ) to select Settings , and then press OK .
Press the Down Arrow ( ) to select Tools , and then press OK .
Press the Down Arrow ( ) to select Clean Printhead , and then press OK . The product cleans the printhead, and then prints a test page.
I would advise running 3 levels of the clean printhead utility.  Also try performing an ink system reset to this unit.  It may have some ink on the electrical contacts causing the printer to not communicate properly with the cartridges.  For information on how to perform an ink system reset click here.
As well, there are additional steps for a print quality issue found here.  Let me know how it goes.

  • Reversing Print Order on Deskjet 1010

I am using my Deskjet 1010 to print checks from my Quickbooks Accounting program. It automatically prints them in reverse order causing numbering problems for me in my check register. I have searched the HP website, but cannot find any information for my printer.

Hello mab1,   Welcome to the HP Forums.  I see that you are attempting to change the Page Order on the computer. If you click on the Start button on the computer and go to Devices and Printers, right mouse click on the DeskJet 1010 printer icon and then left mouse click on Printing Preferences.  From here on the Layout tab you will see the option to change the Page order.  This is the only place that it can be done on the computer.  If you are still having issues, you may need to check the settings in Quickbooks Accounting Program.   Thanks for your time.

  • HP Deskjet 1010 on Windows XP - won't print

I had an HP Inkjet 1000 that worked fine for years, and then decided not to grab the paper.  Since I had just purchased 6 new cartridges, I wanted to replace that printer with one that would also use the type 61 cartridges, and purchased a DeskJet 1010 printer.  The printer does not print.  There are no error messages.  If I am watching the printer spool when I OK the print, I see the document spooling, getting sent to the printer, and then deleted from the spool.  I cannot get the test page to print.  All of the diagonstics seem OK (green checks everywhere).
I have installed the new drivers (several times).  The only way I have been able to get any output from the printer is to ask for an alignment page, which I suspect is being driven directly to the USB without going through the print spooler.
The printer works fine on another of my computers, so suspect the drivers, the spooler, or the port connection, but not the printer itself.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Windows XP Version 2002, Service Pack 3

    Hi PeterGuthrie,
I am sorry to hear that you cannot get the Deskjet 1010 to print on your Windows XP computer. I will try my best to help you resolve this issue.
I recommend using this document for USB Printer Installation Troubleshooting. After doing the disk clean up, I recommend doing a re-register of the windows installer.
    To Re-register Windows Installer
Click Start, click Run , type MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER , and then click OK .
NOTE:Even if you do this correctly, it might look like nothing happens, but it does.
Click Start, and then click Run .
In the Run window, type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER , and then click OK .
Then follow the rest of the steps in order. Be sure to restart after installing before trying to print.
I hope this information helps, please let me know how it goes.
    Thank you,

I have a deskjet 1010 printer.  I have a toshiba satellite laptop.  I have windows 7.  i just bought this printer.  I can print from the internet no problem, but it will not print anything from a pdf file, microsoft word, or excel.  I have reinstalled many times, using the usb, and the disk and the internet.  I have installed new drivers, etc.  I have tried EVERYTHING.  Nothing is working.  Please help.

    Hello randrinchina,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some printing issue from microsoft word and excel.
I suggest that we start off by running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  If the Doctor fails, please let me know where it fails as well as any error codes that it generates.
Write me back when you have time and I will be happy to help.

  • Hp Deskjet 1010 series printer -- printer set up

I purchased a deskjet 1010 printer and am trying to set it up to my Mac OS X 10.8.5 laptop. I got the software installed no problem but when it wants to set up the printer it says I need to connect my printer with a USB cable or can do it wirelessly by pressing the wireless button on my printer and then following the rest of the steps. My printer only came with the cords to plug it into a power source, it did not come with a USB cable and there is no wireless button anywhere on the printer...how am I to set up my printer??
    Thanks, Holly

  • HP Desk Jet 1010 Printer will not recognize 61 HP Ink Cartridges

    Error Message reads:
    Ink Cartridge Problem
At least one of the cartrideges has a problem. Click help for more information. (There is no help button.)
If ink cartridges have been installed, check that the plastic tape covering the ink nozzeles has been removed. (They're brand new cartridges and yes the tape was removed.)
To order a genuine HP replacement cartridge online, click buy now. (I don't want to buy a new cartridge. I just did.)
This was a combo-pack with black and tri-color from Walmart. It's exactly the same one that was purchased before and it worked fine.
Is one of them just a defective cartridge? Is there a way to check this? If they're not defective how do I make my computer recognize that I have cartridges installed?

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve the cartridge error with your Deskjet 1010 printer.  See the section under "power light is blinking rapidly".  It is possible that reinstalling the cartridge or cleaning the cartridge contacts will resolve the issue.  If the steps there do not resolve the issue is is possible you have a defective cartridge.  If you still have the old cartridge you replaced I would suggest installing it in the printer just to verify the issue is with the cartridge and not the printer.  HP cartridges have a two year warranty  as described in the document here.  The cartridge is separate from the printer warranty.  You could call HP for a replacement (1-800-HPINVENt if you are in the US or Canada, elsewhere see the document here) or return the cartridges to Walmart for a replacement.

  • Deskjet 1010 over saturated colors

This is my first HP printer. I have had it only a few days and am very disappointed with prints from my photographs.
The prints have over saturated colors and are too warm, resulting in a dark, muddy appearance.
For mant years, I have used Canon printers that have allowed me to adjust color balance and density.
I was surprised to that these facilities are not available with HP software.
Is there any way I can get the print quality that I want?

HI , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see that you're experiencing quality issues, while printing photos on your HP Deskjet 1010 Printer. I would like to assist you with this. Due to the nature of the issue, I may require more information. What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer. What operating system are you using? Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer? To see if the correct driver is installed please try: Please download and run the Print and Scan Doctor, it will likely diagnose and resolve the issue you are experiencing. Please let me know the results of the steps I have recommended.        Note: The Print and Scan Doctor is for Windows Operating Systems. Do colour prints look good on regular paper?
What type of paper are you using when you're printing photos?  Did you specify the Paper Type when printing, in the print settings?        Note: If you aren't using HP Photo Paper, select Other Photo Paper. The printer is programmed to know HP Paper, the speed and saturation of the Ink will depend on the type of paper you're using. Therefore, if you're using none HP Paper, and the print settings are set for HP Photo Paper, you will see these results. Printing Photos- Manual Load photo paper1. Make sure the output tray is open.2. IMPORTANT: Remove all paper from the paper input tray, and then load the photo paper with side to be printed on facing up.  To print a photo on photo paper1. On the File menu in your software, click Print.2.Make sure your printer is selected.3. Click the button that opens the Properties dialog box. Depending on your software application, this button might be called Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer Properties, Printer, or Preferences.4. Select the appropriate options.● On the Layout tab, select Portrait or Landscape orientation.● On the Paper/Quality tab, select the appropriate paper type and print quality from the Media drop-down list.● Click Advanced to select the appropriate paper size from the Paper Size drop-down list.         NOTE: For maximum dpi resolution, go to the Paper/Quality tab and select Photo Paper,Best Quality from the Media drop-down list. Then go to the Advanced tab and select Yes from the Print in Max DPI drop-down list. If you want to print Max DPI in grayscale, select High Quality Grayscale from the Print in Grayscale drop-down list.5. Click OK to return to the Properties dialog box.6. Click OK, and then click Print or OK in the Print dialog box.     NOTE: After the printing is finished, remove unused photo paper from the input tray. • Share Name, Printer Name and display name for End User

We are being forced to standardize printer names.  So, for example, a printer that is on the print server might have the following properties:
    NAME: PR25739
    SHARE NAME: Clinic Admin Office
    SERVER NAME: A700500
The share name seems to be pointless - almost vestigial.  When a user maps to the printer, it is named (on their device) PR25739 on A700500.  They can't change it, I can't change it - indeed, the Name field is disabled during the Install Printer
Wizard.  The whole point of the share name, to me, is to make something that is user-friendly with context and useful information.  But the sharename seems to be completely ignored.  Is there any setting I can change that will make this printer
map so that it is displayed to the user as Clinic Admin Office or even Clinic Admin Office on A700500?  Solutions that must take place on the EUD are not solutions - the name needs to be correct out of the box.
    Thanks.

Unfortunately, no.  The standardization mandate specifically states "printer name" - changing the Share Name was my last ditch attempt to inject some sense and serve my users.  Right now, I have 5 printers mapped, and they look like this:
    PR25737 on A700500
    PR25739 on A700500
    PR12336 on A700500
    PR35127 on A700500
    PR29764 on A700500
I know to use the location field in the printer dialog, but I don't expect my users will - and without that, even I can't keep up with what printer goes to what physical device.
