Printer repairs

after a paper jam was cleared, (already went thru the online trouble shooting procedures) this is the message on the printer display:
"Carriage Jam"        "The print carriage cannot move."
The printer is still under warranty and I need to know how to get it fixed.  where do I send it  or take it for repairs.
Thanks,
Richard

  • "HP AIO Printer 7180 " Ink System Failure- Worth Repair ?

Hi              I have the above all in one printer. it is maybe 8 years old now but an excellent, top of the line printer at that time. I have gotten an " ink system failure" warning and nothing works. I have been told that this means the printer is basically shot-to chuck it-and buy a new one. Its such a nice unit, it seems a shame to not try a repair. my local printer repair shop in Vancouver -eltek- has quoted me about $50 to check it out and up to repair from there. I've heard that this is a common problem with this unit. Question- As I am Disabled , on fixed low income,  can I attempt a self repair and if so , what can I attempt? Would it be worthwhile to pay for this problem repair or should I just write it off and save $100 for the newer type, disposable printers ?                                                                                                              Thanks Most Kindly   Brian Smith in North Vanc

Hey ,  Welcome to the HP Support Forum.  I understand your Photosmart C7180 All-in-One Printer is stuck in an error state.  I would like to assist you with this.   According to this article from HP, the sole troubleshooting recommendation is performing a hard reset.  Beyond that, I recommend you reach out to our tech support team. You can click on the following link to initiate a case: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Once you fill out the online form to create your case you can choose from different direct contact methods.  Even though your printer's out of warranty, you might be able to look into alternative servicing or replacement options with HP.   Addressing your questions about D.I.Y. repair and third-party servicing, I do have some advice that you may want to take into consideration.  The printhead on your C7180 is fixed/permanent.  This means you can't readily take it out and clean it or replace it like you can in other printer models.  Is it possible to dismantle the entire unit and identify the source of the error status (likely the printhead) and repair it on your own?  Maybe... but there are no official guides from HP that support this approach.  With some research online (Google, cough, YouTube, cough ) you might be able to find tips on how to go about this, but we rarely advise this route as it can exacerbate existing issues or create new problems.   Third-party repair businesses may have their own methods for fixing these types of printer errors, but I'm doubtful that they can guarantee a positive outcome, especially with this type of error.  You can end up wasting  money on a fruitless repair.  We don't do pre-sales tips in the Forums, otherwise I'd recommend budget-friendly printers from HP that would match and in many cases exceed the capabilities of your C1780.  If you do end of deciding to pick up a new printer you can checkout new HP models here.   I hope this helps.  Have a great day!

  • Repair Permissions stops printing

Whenever I repair permissions my printing stops working. I have to manually change the permissions on var/spool/cups and var/spool/cups/tmp to allow read/write for all, then printing works. I also suspect there are permissions that are messsing up my network access to my Macs from PCs - I have had to install Dave to be able to share files from a Mac.
    Anyone have a clue?

You might first repair the permissions and then reinstall the printer, or better, uninstall the printer, repair permissions and then reinstall the printer and SW.
It seems that the OS expects different permissions than the printer software.
You may have originally installed the printer without first repairing permissions, which were incorrect.

  • HP Photosmart C6180 printer. Says the magenta ink cartridge is empty when it is new.

I own a HP Photosmart C6180 printer.  It sat for several months so I replaced all of the ink cartridges.  It will not print because it says the magenta ink cartridge is empty.  It is brand new and i can see the ink inside of it.  I am not sure what to do.  I don't want to take it to get serviced as I live several hours from any computer or printer repair shop.  Please help!

    Hi pbeck39
What are the ink levels like on a self test page - are they good? Are you using Win XP x64 by any chance?
    Thanks

  • Printer installed but not responding to print jobs

I'm not quite sure how to intelligently ask this question so let me describe what happened.
I have a friend who asked for help in troubleshooting a problem with his printer.  His printer is a brand new HP Officejet 6600 sitting near his computer and is on his wifi network.  He can not print to it wirelessly from his iMac running Lion, but his wife can print wirelessly to it from another room on her iMac.  He can print using USB, though, but he prefers wireless because of the wiring situation in this room.  Plus, he bought for wireless printing.
When I got there I checked his System Preferences:Print & Fax and confirmed that his printer was installed and had the green idle light showing ready for a print job.  I tried to print and everything looked normal and showed that the job was sent to the printer and was 100% completed but the printer never responded.  I tried it from his wife's computer and confirmed that she was able to print a page with no problem.  I brought my MBP and joined his wifi network and added his printer and was also able to print.
So, I tried some basic troubleshooting steps trying to print after each one, and nothing worked.  I deleted and re-installed his printer, repaired permissions, restarted in Safe Boot, tried printing in a second user account, Reset printing system..., deleted all com.apple.print... preferences,  installed Onyx and ran the System Cleaning routines,  powered down/up the router/computer/printer, reset the wifi on the printer and rejoined his network, and probably a few other things I can't remember right now.
After doing all of this and throwing up my hands I tried to print again from my MBP to prove that I still could, and this time was not able to print.  It kept trying to send the job but the printer never responded.  His wife's iMac was still able to print, however.  This got me frustrated and I decided to ask this forum for help.
Oh, and here's some more information.  His wife has a printer next to her computer, an HP Officejet something (I forget, not 6600, though).  His iMac is able to print over wifi to this printer with no problem.  What the...?
What other things can I try? Does this point to something in the printer such as a bad wifi card, or something?  Any suggestions or ideas will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

LilyLC, hold on to your chair you will not believe what happened today.  Bear with me while I give you all the details but you will want to read the entire story.
First, to answer your question in the first paragraph of that last post, his wife's printer is connected to his wifi and is using the driver installed by Apple and has been updated on the same date as his computer that I gave earlier.  She can print to her printer and so can he.  After the troubleshooting steps I have taken and took today I agree with your assessment about an intermittent issue with the printer, too, but let me tell you what I did today.
Before going to his house I decided to set up a second wifi LAN at his house using my router to check if his Airport Extreme (I incorrectly thought initially it was an Airport Express) router was the problem.  The thinking being that I have checked his printer and computer and nothing I have tried is making a difference, so the only thing left is his router.  So, I set up my router and joined his computer, printer, and my MBP, to the wifi and tried to print from both computers.  The printer still was NOT working!  That was a big disappointment since I just knew that was going to work.  I guess that eliminates the router.  I reconfigured his computer back to his wifi and proceeded to the next step.
I hadn't installed the drivers from the website you gave me earlier since I saw in Software Updates that he had updated to that same driver set already.  Now I got to thinking that maybe those files were corrupted somehow so I downloaded the drivers from the website you gave me and installed.  Deleted drivers from Print & Scan pane and installed the newly downloaded driver, tried to print, and that failed, too.
Next I tried your suggestion of using the LPD protocol instead of the HP JetDirect and that setup failed for some reason.  I reconfigured using the HP JetDirect, and that worked for printing, as before, but the scan function was not available, as before.
I was getting a little pressed for time today and had time to try one more thing, so I decided to forgo the new Location setup until tomorrow and instead chose to plug his printer directly into the Airport Extreme via USB and see what happened.  I deleted the IP driver and clicked the + to add the installed driver and was presented with an HP Officejet 6600 on the top line and lower down under "Nearby Printers" found an HP Officejet 6600 series [XXXXXX] and under that HP Officejet 6600 Fax.
I chose the first driver and installed and tried to print and was successful.  However, the scan function was not available.  So I deleted that driver and chose the second one.  I noticed immediately that the scan function was available.  Thinking I might have something I tried to print and was unsuccessful.  Mmm...printing works with the first driver but not the second and scan works for the second but not the first.  What's with THAT?
This was really getting frustrating by this time and after much discussion with him I told him I thought the printer was the device at fault.  For some reason his printer just did not like his network.  I tried printing to his wife's computer and that worked great.  No problem there.  But for some reason his printer did not like his network and refused to work by setting up manually.
I recommended that he bring the printer back and exchange it for another printer.  He agreed and immediately boxed it up and left for the store.  I returned home to more friendlier surroundings.
Here's where it gets interesting, and it helps to know that my friend is in his mid-eighties.  About an hour later he calls and tells me he's sitting in the parking lot of Office Depot.  He tells me that when he was in the store discussing with Customer Service about an exchange it dawned on him out of the blue that he DIDN'T NEED TWO PRINTERS!!  He said that if he could print to his wife's computer today then he could print to it from now on.  I was speechless!!!  I told him I asked him at the beginning of all this why he had to have two printers, and at that time he said "trust me, we need two printers".  Ok.  He tells me he has no idea why he didn't realize that wifi worked differently than cable.  He thinks that maybe since his older two printers were each connected to his and his wife's computer these newer computers operated the same way too.  But he admits to me that he was the one who set the printers up on his wifi network, so why he didn't realize that only one printer was necessary with wifi he didn't know.  He was embarrassed.  He admitted to me that technology is very difficult for him to understand.  No kidding!!!
I didn't need to remind him how much time had been spent on this problem because he was quick to apologize and was very sorry for taking up so much of my time, and he really appreciated the effort.  I told him I didn't mind.
And I really didn't, because I learned so much from this experience by following your suggestions, LilyLC.  I never knew how to set up a printer using its IP address, and the protocols to use, and I never knew how to add new Locations in the Network pane and why it might be useful.  You also got me to considering other troubleshooting ideas I wouldn't have thought of otherwise.  So maybe my friend and I aren't that different after all.
I really appreciate all the suggestions, links, and ideas you offered during this effort, LilyLC.  I wish I could have determined the cause of the problem but, not knowing the inner workings of these devices, I can only assume that it had to have been the printer.
I bet I get a call from my friend a week from now saying that he just bought a second printer for his room because his knees can't take the walking from his room to his wife's room to get all of his printouts.  All I can say is THAT printer better work.
Thanks again, LilyLC, for all your time and help.  It was really appreciated!

  • HP Color LaserJet 4700dtn. Won't Print from printer queue.Event Code 68 8002

From the start of using this printer about a year ago I normally just plug in the usb wire from the laptop and it works.
For some reason about 3 weeks ago it seems to have stopped receiving data from the computer . A different wire to the printer will not work. but the same wire connected to a different printer on same laptop port does work.
I have tried discovering the printer using the HP support system to try an update the driver/firmware.  The printer is discovered but the update seems to end up in th printer queue and gets stuck.
The queue is empty at the moment.
My normal printer repair company say its a software problem.
The printer will print its own diagnostics pages but to be honest I don't have a clue what the info printed off means or if there are any answers to be found there.
Anyone any ideas please.    ( answers in "printers for dummies" speak if at all poss please)

  • HP 6500 E709n won't print black...attempts to align have failed.

My HP 6500 E709n suddenly stopped printing black. I've cleaned the cartridges and cleaned the print head. Two attempts at alignment resulted in the message, "Alignment failed." Did the unplug/wait/plug back in game, held down the # and 3 keys while plugging back in. Black ink is still dead. I bought the printer new in October a year ago, but barely used it because it was in another location. Only started using daily last month...perhaps up to 5 pages/day. It's ridiculous that a printer would last 13 months, with extremely low usage.Of course it's one month out of warranty. I would prefer not to have to recycle it and waste $200+.  A printer repair person (yes, they do exist) will likely cost more than the cost of another new printer. Appreciate any new suggestions.

Try the steps in this post.

  • Mac OS(10.4.10) does not show my Epson Stylus DX 6050 in printer list?

Having worked happily together for about a year, my Mac refuses to connect with my Epson printer, for no good reason I can see. Despite uninstalling and installing Epson driver a number of times both from Install CD Rom and downloading from website. The USB connections seem OK. I did have password issues (Account Admin and Key chain) in the past week, which are now resolved. I wonder if this is more than a coincidence? and is there some connection here,
I hope somebody can help with this, it would be very much appreciated.

O!!!! Perfect Advice! It worked.... now After loading the printer app bits and it was strange that it tells you what is already there and so these missing bits are
strange. Then I used the Printer Repair shareware to re-repair ( 285 ) things and permissions. This was a thorny nearly intractable mess figuring this out-- and all those steps that didn't matter. Whew! Thank you very very much.

  • Adobe PDF 9.0 Virtual Printer: file goes missing

    Hi there
When attempting to print from Filemaker Pro using the Acrobat 9.0 Printer, I am prompted for the location for the saved file, and the job then goes on to print. The logs indicate that the job completes successfully but the file is nowhere to be found.
It's not in the specified location, and it's nowhere else in the filesystem either.
The issue tends to occur with larger jobs - smaller jobs output the pdf in the correct location fine most of the time. Also, the Acrobat 9.0 driver dialog allows me to print a test page fine as well...
Any clues on this would be appreciated...

I'd suggest you try the following:
    1) Delete the Printer, Repair the installation of Acrobat (under the
help menu) and see if this cures the problem, if not
    2) Reset the Printer system.
I print regularly from File Maker Advanced version 8.5 with no issue
under OS 10.5.5. I don't know which version you are running of either
    FileMaker or OS.

  • Cannot Cancel Print Job!!!

Hi, I have tried everything, disconneting everything, but nothing works, the program apparently does not work, the normal way to just delete a job is not working, have hp deskjet f2210, and it will not cancel the print job no matter what I do! Any ideas? Thank you in advance for reading and trying to help me!

Oh yes, don't you just love having to reboot your PC to clear up the print queue?  Well, I don't and have been using a little freeware app called "Stalled Printer Repair".  Google will find it for you.  I don't even think it needs to be installed.  You just run it.  I have found that it almost always cleans things up without having to kill processes and reboot.  Nice!

  • Trying to update firmware on my canon printer MG5320 but in doesn't recognize the printer being plugged in via USB cable

I am trying to update firmware on my canon printer MG5320 to be able to use the airprint feature but in doesn't recognize the printer being plugged in via USB cable. I have tried restarting the macbook, turning on and off the printer, repairing permissions, deleting and redownloading the update what else can I do? The prinyrt works fine otherwise...

If there are no drivers for Yosemite you might be in trouble.. HP will tend not to support printers once they are EOL.
Getting it running over wireless rather than USB might be worthwhile.
Can’t connect wirelessly HP Photosmart C4780 to MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion.
Has the printer been working and now failed after update.. what update caused the failure if that is the problem??

  • MacBook Pro Printing & Mail Problems

My stepdad's Macbook Pro just came Fed Ex today. Amazing yesterday, it was in Shanghi.
Anyway, I have two major problems. First, I imported all his old documents and settings, using the assistant from his old iMac. When I went to print, nothing happens. I mean I click on the button, but no print window pops up. It does not matter what application I am in. The printer is plugged in the USB port correctly. It is supported ( a Lexmark laser E320). The driver is installed. The computer even says it sees the printer. I just get no print window, and the print queue stays empty.
Apple support was useless. The person barely could speak English and the recommended solution was to re-install OSX. How could that help, I only had the computer for an hour and a half.
Second, the installer imported all my step dad's mail, but when I click on the reply button to respond to other's email, nothing happens (the exact same problem as with printing, nothing happens). Again, Apple support was no help. Repairing permissions, emptying the cache, trashing preferences, nothing helped.
Any clues would be helpful. What a bumper, as I hyped up the machine
Mac Book Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I used Print Repair Setup. The demo is free, but it is shareware. I had forgot about this software, but have used it in the past, and it is great. It can be found at:
    http://www.fixamacsoftware.com/software/index.html.
I should say, however, that it only solved the printing problem for the root user's account on my machine (which also had not been working). I did not check my account before verifying the fix and psoting here. Sure enough it did not work. Eventually I did an index and reinstall, and it restored printing for my normal account. The utility may work for you though, so try it out. As I set, I have used it in the past, and it has fixed some problems when all else failed.
I will have an update for my mail problem. The indexing and reinstall did not solve the mail problem. I, however, discovered the problem. Apparently, I had a .Mac account a long time ago. I cancelled it after the year of reduced membership costs expired. My computer, however, carried this information forward with it when I updated my operating system several times from 10.1 to 10.4.
After trying everything I coudl think of, including deleting the .Mac mail folders in the Library Mail folder, I went to system preferences. I opened the .Mac option, and deleted the user name. I closed mail, and restarted it. This solved the problem for me.
