Printer Sharing Home Network Setup

I wasn't sure whether to put this into the 'Bonjour for Windows' section or not but since it has to deal with a home network I'm putting it here.
Ok, I have my brand new MacBook Pro and I want to set up wireless printing from it. My HP OfficeJet 4200 series printer doesn't have an ability to connect to the router via ethernet so basically all it connects to is my PC.
My PC is always connected to my printer and I never really use it (why would I?). Is there a way to print files from my MacBook Pro wirelessly?
So basially my set up is the printer being connected to my PC and the PC is connected to the internet via my Netgear router. My MacBook Pro is connected to the internet via the same Netgear wireless router.
Is there any way that I can print wirelessly? Thanks

It is possible. After a week of research I was able to print from an eMacG3, iMac intel, and PowerBookG4.
If you have any problem while the setup, take a look at this link:

  • Problem with shared HP930C printer on home network

    We have 2 networked computers at home -- one is Windows XP with an HP930C printer attached, the other is Windows Vista 32-bit with a Canon iP3600 attached.  Both printers are shared across the network.  Both computers will print to the Canon printer.  We used to able to use the HP printer from both computers.  Then it was detached for many months, and now we cannot use it from the Vista computer.
    The HP printer can be seen from Control Panel of both computers.  But when we try to print from Vista, a dialog box appears and disappears so quickly that it cannot be read -- nothing appears in the printer queue and nothing prints.  I downloaded and ran the HP Home Network Diagnostic Utility on the Vista computer, but it did not find the HP printer.
    I've checked everything I can think of, and I've run out of ideas.  Can anyone help, please?

    Hello freemcb, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
    I see you are experiencing connectivity issues.  I would like to help.
    I would recommend powering down the printer and computers.  Once they are off, I would recommend removing the power cord from the router and waiting 60 seconds.  After the alloted time, plug the router back in and let it broadcast, then power on the printer and computers.
    I would also recommend utilizing this document on Wireless Printing Center Troubleshooting Issues.
    Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • How do I send email and web pages to a shared printer on home network. I verified that I can send documents to the shared printer.

    My home network (one wireless computer using Windows 7--the other using Windows XP) share a printer, but I can't send web pages or email to the shared printer. I can send documents to the printer, so I know that connection is set up properly. Could Firefox be blocking this function? If so, how do I configure it. Both computers use Firefox exclusively.
    == I never could share the printer when on websites.

  • How do I send email and web pages over a shared home network printer?

    I want to share web pages with a shared home printer over our home network. One computer using Windows 7 and another using windows XP. I know I can send document files to the shared computer. The computer with the Windows 7 OS is wireless; the other using XP is directly connected to a cable router and to the printer.
    == I have not been able to do this.

    I'm not sure I understand. Are you trying to print?

  • Printing problems with a shared printer on home network

    Hi
    I just upgraded all my Macs to Tiger. We have been running Panther very smoothly since it came out. We have a small home network running on a standard hub. The USB printer is attached to one of my G4s, and the rest of the network uses this as a printer connection.
    I've been successfully printing to our HP 920C printer from all my programs for years now. Now that I've gone to Tiger, my printer Utility sees and registers the printer, but when I try to print to it from any of the Apple text programs, there is no response. I print from Illustrator with no trouble at all. TextEdit for example, sees the printer, but when I click the "PRINT" button from the print dialogue nothing happens. I am wondering why this is.
    To note: I have added a line of code to the Terminal, which unblocks the system for Adobe Distiller to create PDFs (sudo killall -HUP cupsd). This was reccomended by Adobe with Panther in order to bypass a PDF function whithin Panther. I wonder if it was a mistake to add it to Tiger, and that it is this that is blocking TextEdit. If this is the case how do I remove the command, and reset the system to its default PDF setting.

    It was a simple problem after all. Sadly my hard disc was about to snuff it. I changed disk, reinsalled Tiger and all is as smooth as ever.

  • Apple ID for Screen/File Sharing Home Network

    I have several Macs connected mostly by ethernet as part of my home network. I am trying to simplify the act of logging into one device from another. One method is to setup a username and password for each Mac, and then use these credentials to log into the other computers when prompted. However, I'd like to use the alternative method of using a shared Apple ID registered on each machine, as described here: OS X Yosemite: Set up users on your Mac at step 8, first bullet point. However, it is unclear exactly WHERE this Apple ID is linked to the user. On older versions of OSX, there is a "Set" button in the Users preferences panel; in Yosemite, this button is no longer present. I have entered my apple ID in the "Advanced Options" screen, accessible by unlocking the lock, and right clicking on the user in question. On the Advanced Options screen, there is a place to enter the Apple ID, as well as an alias. I have also linked all my Macs to my iCloud account in the "iCloud" panel in System Preferences.
    I think Apple has made changes to OSX Yosemite, but haven't updated their online user manual in reference to this in Yosemite. The funny thing is am able to log into some of my computers using my Apple ID, but not others, despite the settings appearing to all be the same. I have also tried using an Airport Extreme router (newest version) instead of my Asus router, but it hasn't helped the situation.
    Any help or insights would be appreciated...

    Hey kennamy,
    I see that you want to access some of your computers remotely and are experiencing some issues. Since you have an iCloud account already signed in to all devices, I would recommend that you use Back to my Mac in order to accomplish this:

  • Basic home network setup troubles: Airport, ethernet, and cable modem

    Hi,
    Having only just subscribed to a cable broadband service we're experiencing some troubles setting up a mixed-mode home network and I'm wondering whether we've got some of the very basics messed-up.
    What we have is:
    1. Recent version (white) ibook, with airport, running 10.4.7;
    2. Old G4 PowerPC (450MHz I think) running 10.4.7 ... airport card available;
    3. Old powerbook (?Lombard) running 10.2.8 ... no airport;
    4. A PC running Windows XP (not that important to have this in the network though) with no wireless;
    5. A 3com SuperStack 1100 switch;
    6. A cable modem;
    7. A Linksys BEFSX41 Etherfast Cable/DSL Router ... 4 ethernet switch ports;
    8. An airport express base station;
    9. An HP laser printer connected into the ethernet LAN.
    We'd like to keep both our wireless and ethernet networks running with all computers able to access one another, print to the laser printer, and access the broadband (fixed IP address) account. We're not (yet) conderned with hosting websites from our home computers.
    I'm unsure of how we should configure this system. Do I connect the airport base station to the switch (which is what we presently have) or into the router? Do I connect each of the hardwired PCs (and the printer) into the switch
    and then the switch to the router via single conenction?
    If we use DHCP to access the router have I got the potential for the router and the airport base station to interfere with one another?
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've pulled a few TCP/IP setup-for-idiots books from our local library but this specific situation doesn't seem to be well covered.
    Cheers
    Dougal

    You probably have a few options here that will work. Considering the number of wired devices, I would suggest the following:
    Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Internet port] BEFSX41 [LAN_1] > (Ethernet cable) > SuperStack switch > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] AirPort Express Base Station (AX) > (wireless) > wireless clients, AND
    SuperStack switch > (Ethernet cable) > wired clients
    Then setup the AX as a bridge, as follows:
    To set up the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a bridge, using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, make these settings:
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
    - Apply the new setting.
    - Wait at least 5 minutes.

  • Home Network Setup Help ( Motorola & Linksys)

    Hi,
    I need help configuring my home network, I have created a diagram using gliffy.com to help view my current setup.
    Currently all wired and wireless computers connect to the internet successfully, that's with default settings. The only thing I have changed is the SSID and Wireless password.
    I need help figuring out the settings I need to input for the Motorola and the Linksys Routers so all computers can find each other in the network.
    I really don't know what the exact technical terms might be, but if you need more information I can gather it. Thank you!

  • Connecting to hp printer shared over network

    my roommate has a pc, and i've figured out how to add his hp photosmart 7150 from the printer setup utility by manually doing option-click on "more printers..." and then selecting "advanced" and "windows printer via samba" and manually putting in the device URI.
    the problem is that the photosmart 7150 is not present in the list of printer models from hp (and the hp printer drivers are installed).
    i thought it was kind of strange because when i directly connect the printer to the iMac, my computer knows that it's a photosmart 7150, so the drivers are floating around somewhere on my computer.
    how do i setup the printer over the network and make the printer setup utility understand that it's a photosmart 7150?
    thanks.

  • File and Printer Sharing on Network

    I have a wireless network using a Netgear router on which two PCs and two Macs are connected.
    I currently have no file or printer sharing enabled between the various systems.
    I have a HP psc 2450 printer wired to one of the PCs via a USB cable, and I'd like to access this printer from the other systems.
    Would somebody walk me through how this can be done?

  • Bonjour on win xp doesn't see my HP printer in home network

    I have three pc's and one mac.
    a Time Capsule, where I have an Epson Printer attached to.
    Bonjour recognizes the Epson just fine. No problem there.
    I also have an HP Deskjet hooked up to one of my pc's, a laptop, via usb cable.
    This laptop doesn't have wifi built in, however, I am using an adapter card
    and it works just fine with the network. I am able to access all other computers
    via this laptop.
    I have the HP printer set up correctly to the laptop, because I can print a test page and it is listed in the control panel, Printers and Faxes.
    However, Bonjour does not see this HP printer.
    I am not sure why, because this laptop is part of the network, and it can see all the other computers on the network, even the Epson printer which is hooked to the Time Capsule.
    Any ideas what I can do in order to be able to see the HP printer on my network, and print from this HP printer,
    which is hooked up to my wireless network via an adapter card on my laptop?
    thanks!!

    I have the HP printer set up correctly to the laptop, because I can print a test page and it is listed in the control panel, Printers and Faxes.
    However, Bonjour does not see this HP printer.
    Is the Windows firewall running on that laptop, teresita?
    If so, do you have an exception set up in the firewall on ports 5297, 5298 and 5353? Bonjour uses those particular ports. See:
    ["Well known" TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629]

  • Last several upgrades, I cannot PRINT. Nothing happens! Wife can print, same home network, with older version.

    Neither the menu Print nor Ctrl-P will bring up a print dialog from FF. My other programs work fine. This started a couple of months ago. I update whenever possible and go to Beta as requested. Shows I'm in 6.0 and the "Beta Update Channel".
    Just now, I pasted that diagnostic info and saw that advice! OH!!

    Thank you, Edmeister! That HP software has been useless since the day it was installed. I don't much use that printer, now, but, when FF was printing, it would print to either network printer, as selected, when that dialog used to pop up.
    SINCE posting my problem, I have determined that I can "work around" by rebooting FF in Safe Mode with none of the add-ons. I tried deleting a couple I suspected but that hasn't helped, so far. Some, as you know, don't seem delete-able unless, maybe, through Windows. So, I'll keep experimenting until I can identify which one is causing my print dialog not to appear at all. Guess I'm the only one in America with this problem! :/

  • Printer sharing, small network w/ Windows

    I have a small home wireless network where the Mac Pro hosts a printer for itself and my powerbook.
    Internet comes in to a wireless router/cable modem, and the powerBook connects wirelessly via Airport. The Mac Pro connects via ethernet to a wireless bridge, then wirelessly to the router. This has been working fine.
    Recently I installed Windows XP via bootcamp on the Mac Pro. I downloaded Windows drivers for the Epson printer, and I can print from Windows OK. Windows connects to the internet just fine.
    So, this is all working the way I want, except the printer doesn't seem to be available to the powerBook when I am booted into Windows on the Mac Pro. This is an annoyance to both of us when work has to be interrupted to shut down Windows and boot into OS X just to run the print job.
    Is there a way to make the printer available to the powerBook when I am running Windows on the Mac Pro?
    Would Parallels be a solution to this?

    It seems that I'm almost there, but not yet printing. I have Windows on the network, and can save documents to the windows shared folder. I can see the printer in Printer Setup utility, and I can send a print job to that printer. However, the printer does not respond.
    A window opens "Epson C82" showing the print queue. It displays a pair of error messages:
    "NTSTATUS_BAD_NETWORKNAME"
    "Unable to connect to Samba host, will retry...
    connection failed with error"
    It sort of seems I should be able to do this, but the errors have me stumped. What is Samba?

  • Home network setup - including media

    Hello!  Here is my family's current set up:
    Apple TV 3rd Gen (qty 2)
    iPhone 6 (qty 2)
    MacBook Air (qty 2)
    iPad Air
    iPad 1st Gen
    Mac Mini (2.6ghz i7, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD)
    2TB Airport Time Capsule
    My ultimate goal is to fully cut the cable TV cord in the next month or two and work exclusively through Apple TV.  We basically watch several shows; Modern Family, The Middle, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and football.  We will of course browse through other channels if bored, but usually if those aren't on we'll just hop over to Netflix.  Between a digital antenna to get ABC and the other network channels and probably just getting a season subscription for Walking Dead and GoT, we should be all set with the other options available on Apple TV (possibly HULU Plus, haven't decided).  My wife's only concern is we will no longer have DVR's, which is a valid concern so I'm still on the fence with that.  I'd hate to get TiVO or something like it for just the network stations we'll bring in with the digital antenna, but I believe HULU Plus has Modern Family and The Middle so I may just get that to do away with any concern.  Basically any shows or movies we watch are on the TV's throughout the house, we very rarely watch it on our laptops or devices.  Only exception is our son who "owns" (ha) the old 1st Gen iPad.  He likes to watch youtube videos on it before bed, but I'm in the process of teaching him how to see his Toy Story and Polar Express movies in the Videos section (through home sharing).  He's 3, so it's taking a while haha.
    Anyway, that covering the TV portion of things, I'm left with my iTunes library.  Right now I keep the files and all physical downloads (music and movies) on the Mac Mini, and then it is accessed through Home Sharing by the Apple TV's (and devices if we choose).  I copied my entire DVD collection to iTunes so essentially anything entertainment wise in my house is digital....no DVDs, CDs, etc.
    Here's my question I guess....what is your recommendation for how I should set everything up based on what you've seen above?  Below are a couple preferences/concerns I have:
    Right now my Mac Mini basically acts as the "server."  It is hooked up to the TV in our living room right now.  I hardly ever use it as a "computer" since we both have our Macbook Air's, but I do use it from time to time if I need to copy a DVD or CD over to iTunes.  Otherwise, it's basically the "server".  I have read several things that talked about using the Time Capsule as a shared drive that would allow you to access it from any location as long as you're connected to internet (I set it up that way and tested it, and it does work).  Should I possibly move my entire iTunes library (music, movies, etc) onto the Time Capsule that way, just in case, I could access all our movies from any location (I know I can already with the music through iTunes match, but that doesn't work for movies).  It's really not a HUGE concern for me right now, but it would just be nice to have.  How would that affect my home sharing setup though?  Would all my devices (including Apple TV's) be able to access the music and movies through the Time Capsule?  Also, would it be slower streaming from the TC rather than the Mac Mini?
    This may be off topic, but if I continue to use the Mac Mini as my "server", would I benefit from upgrading the RAM from 8GB to 16GB?  Not sure that affect much, but just a thought.
    Right now I don't do the constant time machine backup to the Time Capsule.  I do it about once a month manually.  I guess subconsciously I'm just trying to keep some space free on it in case I want to use it as a shared drive.
    Like I said, I have no problem keeping everything on the Mac Mini and using it as the "server", I just want to confirm I'm doing things the most efficient way possible with the set up I have above.
    If anyone has any recommendations about the best way I should set everything up (I'm also not against buying anything additional that might make it a more efficient set up) please feel free to comment.  Basically I just want a seamless Apple household where all I have to do is "think it" and then it happens.  Haha.  Thanks in advance for your comments!

  • Home network setup HELP

    Hi
    Firstly I cannot get my Linksys RE1000 to work with my network having tried the set up CD on 2 computers (mac and windows)
    The main router is a BT Home Hub 2.0
    any suggestions
    Secondly this is what I am trying to achieve so help to do that would be great.....
    The main router is in the basement where out internet connection enters the house, also in the basement is our LAN board where we have ethernet cables extending to parts of the house. There is weak wireless signal from groundfloor up to the top floor so wanted to find something where I could plug into the ethernet port and it would broadcast an wireless network to the upper floors/areas with a weaker signal. Thought the RE1000 would do this job but i can't get it to do it wirelessly let alone connect it to the main router using a ethernet cable
    HELP Please.

    If you already have ethernet cable running throughout your house, then a wireless access point is probably your best solution........not the RE1000.
    It took me a couple tries to get a RE1000 up and running.  I'm pretty sure I didn't read or follow the directions.  I remember having to reset it a couple times using the reset button on the back of the RE1000.
    You'll need to have the RE1000 close to your main wireless router when you are setting it up.
    But again, if you already have ethernet cable running to parts of your house, the RE1000 is not your best solution.
