Printer Sharing Stopped After 10.5.7 Update

Shortly after performing the 10.5.7 update to an Intel iMac, I discovered that it is no longer able to share its USB printer. Local/USB (from the iMac) printing works fine, but other computers find themselves either "Looking for printer name" (when using the same print queue as before), or "Unable to get printer status (Forbidden)!" if creating a new Bonjour printer entry. The print sharing settings all look fine and as before on the iMac.
The update on the iMac was very clean: Checked with Disk First Aid (DFA), rebooted into Safe Mode (shift key down), ran the Combo updater, checked with DFA again, and repaired permissions (nothing needed to be repaired). There was no hint of a problem, other than this. Unfortunately, this iMac is the household print server and I've been unable to restore functionality using every trick I know.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to troubleshoot this one?
Thank you.

Have you tried deleting the printer and then re-adding it? Also, Printer Sharing is selected?
Yes, thanks. I tried all the basics:
I created a new printer queue, and shared that one instead (better not to un-do something that is working). Same result.
I turned off Printer Sharing, rebooted, turned it back on again. Same story.
There is something very non-obvious going on here. I just can't put my finger on it.

This issue seems to be with the Mac update, since this problem did not occur until after you updated. Please contact Apple.
For optimal performance Epson tests and supports a direct connection from the printer to the Host PC/MAC. Although other methods are offered by third-party vendors Epson does not support or recommend this. Epson cannot guarantee consistent data transfer through any intermediate third-party devices. Because of the amount of information sent to the printer during a print job, it is necessary to have uninterrupted and consistent data flow. If you are experiencing communication errors while connected through any such device, you may want to contact the manufacturer.

Problem. Mac OS 10.5.4 Printer is not accessable for remote printing. when accessed from a remote computer two printers are presented in the printer shared window one is not acessable to print and the when the other one is selected it reports an error. I have loaded and run your 10.5.3 update I have confermed this problem on one other system, also a powerPC MAc running 10.5.4.

    I'm having the same problem.
My Epson CX-4200 printer won't print via printer sharing over my wi-fi anymore.
I have the printer hooked directly to my intel iMac running 10.5.4.
When I try and print from my Macbook via the default printer; the app I'm in at the time will crash before the print dialogue box opens up.
My Macbook is also running 10.5.4. I have a US Robotic Max-G router.
Network works great. File sharing still works.
I've made no changes to my setup. I was able to get a couple docs to print yesterday after deleting an adding the printer back to each system. It printed very slowly but did work.
This morning. Same problem; wont' print again. I tried repeating what I did yesterday. Still won't work.
Whenever I try and print from my Macbook; the app I'm printing from will crash. Very annoying.
This used to work without any problem before.

  • Printer sharing stopped working on two macs

Sonos support i, n diagnosing a problem on my primary iMac , asked me shorten my system name on the iMac that controls my HP printer. I did  that. As a result, the printer sharing on my Mac Air ceased to work.Sure enough, the Mac Air was looking for the old IMac name. So I changed the " system name" for shared printing on the Mac Air. But that doesn't seem to restore shared printing. Anyone got ideas on what else I have to do ?

I recommend deleting your existing printer from System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, and adding it again. Better yet is to "reset the printing system" as described here: Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
After you do that you will need to add the printer again according to the instructions here:

  • Adobe 8.1 stops after Internet Explorer 10 update

Adobe Pro 8.1 stopped functioning today.  Oddly this happened immediately after an automatic update of Internet Explorer 10 (that happened during the night without permission). Can this be fixed without deleting Explorer or returning my system to a prior date?
Is it time to move on to an Adobe Pro upgrade or new product?  Or could this still be a problem with the upgrade?

It would be useful to know if you are talking about Acrobat or Reader, there is no Adobe. Since you said Pro, I assume you mean Acrobat. What OS are you using? What do you mean it stopped functioning -- that can mean a lot of different things and it helps to tell us what you were trying to do to say it does not function? It may be that you only need to repair Acrobat and do any updates that are available.
As for IE10, expect to have to print to the Adobe PDF printer or use the MS plugin (I think it works with IE) to create PDFs.

  • Print Queue "Stopped" after restarting...

I'm having problems with a Print Queue that keeps reverting to "stopped". I'll restart it using either Printer set-up utility or Server Admin but when a job goes through it just stops again.

I've had problems with the print queues in 10.4.x not taking print jobs after the server is restarted. Do a port scan on the server to see if port 515 is open. If it isn't then try restarting the print service on the server. Port scan the server again and see if port 515 is open. If it is open now try printing. I also had problems with ipp printing so have reverted all my clients to LPR. Some client machines I have switched to direct ip printing to the printer. The print queues in 10.4.x haven't been very reliable. I hope this helps.

  • Connection to my AEBS (802.11n) stops after EFI 1.3 update

I just updated my 20" iMac to EFI 1.3 this evening. Upon reboot and login I found that connection to my Airport Extreme Base Station (802.11n) stops completely. As a matter of fact all the wireless basestations in my vicinity are no longer visible to me from my iMac. Before upgrading I've had few, if any, problems with my 20" iMac connecting to the Airport.
The only way I could see the basestation was by attaching an Ethernet cable from the iMac to the base station.
My AEBS is at the fireware revision of 7.3.1, my iMac is running 10.5.2, and the EFI has been updated to 1.3.
Anyone else had problems after upgrading to EFI 1.3?
    Bob

Additional information as I have had two kernel panics trying to connect to my AEBSn. Connecting to the AEBSn via an Ethernet cable does work, just not wireless.

  • Printer Drivers Missing After FORCED 8.1 Update

Yesterday (10/28/2014) HP forced an update onto my computer (the second in less than a week) - which in itself is annoying... the last update happened when I was in the middle of my payroll for my business last Friday!  Anyway... I can deal with that... as I stated merely an annoyance, however yesterday another forced update came through and now I cannot print to my HP Officejet Pro (or anything else for that matter).  I tried reinstalling... no go.  I am currently sitting on hold with HP Tech Support  - after giving my information to an off-shore support person... they transfered me to another department... to whom I gave my information to AGAIN.  This support person informed me that I should not have been transfered to him because apparently my computer is out of warrenty and please hold while I transfer you... I now sit here on HOLD for going past 30 minutes.
I have no problem PAYING for support... however, I NEED TO TALK TO SOMEBODY.  If you do not want my business HP - okay... just tell me so - I have no problem with that!  I do have a problem sitting on HOLD and being IGNORED!

    Hi @TreFiglie ,
I have sent you a private message.  If you are not sure how to check your private messages then this post has instructions that will guide you through the process.

  • Getting print error messages after 8.1.3 update

Adobe Acrobat 8 - Since the 8.1.3 update a couple days ago, I am now getting print error messages in the Adobe PDF printer status box when I send any document to the Adobe PDF printer. The actual printing of the document in Adobe works correctly, but these error messages occur as well - even though the document printed just fine.
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and did not have the issue prior to the 8.1.3 update.

I have removed PDFMaker from Office, to try to simplify the troubleshooting. All attempts to print end up the same, whether from PDFMaker (before I removed it from Office), from print to Adobe PDF from within an Office app, or using Create a PDF in AP 8.1.3 from an Office file ... the last hourglass comes up in "reading Adobe PDF" and stays up. I can see the "target file" created in WinExpl but greyed out, and the hourglass (busy) never goes away in AP 8.1.3.
In contrast, if I want to create a pdf from a "save as" text file, AP 8.1.3 creates the pdf instantly. Create a pdf from scanner also works fine. This problem is definitely related to updates, since AP 8.1 worked perfectly the last time I used it from Office, which was perhaps 2 months ago.
AP 8.1 suddenly stopped working this week with a "can't create PDF" error message, I updated AP all the way to 8.1.3, and have the problem described above. I don't get an error message now, the create PDF or print to PDF simply never completes.
BTW, both my desktop and notebook run Vista Ultimate 64-bit, both have registered and activated copies of AP 8.1.3, and Office 2007, and both have the exact same problem.
I uninstalled AP 8.1.3 on the desktop, installed the trial version of AP 9.0, and experienced the exact same problem as with AP 8.1.3, the create pdf never completes, but produces no error message.
I print to XPS as a workaround since print to Adobe PDF never completes.

  • SMB/Windows Sharing Issues after 10.4.4 Update?

After upgrading to 10.4.4, I'm finding that I'm now unable to connect via my Windows XP Workstation. I've been using the combination of Windows Sharing and SharePoints to share out some directories to my XP box, which has been working great until this update.
I've double checked that Windows Sharing is still enabled (and have turned it off and back on), rebooted, checked my SharePoints configuration, fixed permissions, etc.
Is anyone else out there having problems with Windows Sharing after this update?

  • Screen sharing stops after few seconds

I am screen sharing between two 10.5.8 computers and have successfully shared a number of times between these 2 computers with no network changes. Now, over the past few days, whenever we start a connection, I see computer 2 and I can move the mouse for a few seconds. Then it stops and we get an iChat communication error.
Settings: Both iChats have bandwidth limit set to none, both have sufficient bandwidth (connector doctor says screen share ok). The error log says no data received in the past 10 secs, but it has not even been 10 sec.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
The symptoms of those that do Block this sort of connection is that it seems to connect but gets shut down immediately.
The 10 Sec Error message means it was connected but the connection was dropped or broken or ended but not by iChat.
I would also look at Router and Modem settings.
See if your or the other end has DoS (Denial of Service) or SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) which can impact on some Chats (Mostly Video normally).

Hi there, folks. Most of the time I lurk around here and find great answers, but this time I need some help. I just upgraded to 10.5.3 and now the webserver is failing to load. I checked the console and found the following:

    5/29/08 2:08:55 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd[330]) Exited with exit code: 1
I'm just a PHP scripter, I don't know the details of apache configuration so kindly forgive my ignorance if I'm overlooking something obvious. It worked perfectly before the 10.5.3 update, so I'm pretty sure that it was the cause... this especially bites since I'm on a deadline.
Thanks in advance for any enlightenment you can offer!

Thanks for the defense, Carlene. Again he's chosen to insult both me and my work instead of provide any kind of useful reference. I guess someone as smart as he has nothing better to do than to play vulgar games with those of us who are less mentally matured.
At any rate, no, you don't need the tilde. Be sure you have the spelling and capitalization in the files/terminal written correctly, that the .conf file you saved was in plain-text, and that the chown command was actually successful. In theory once you restart web sharing, it will work. There are a couple of other things that I did which may or may not have had any effect:
    1. A permissions check with Disk Utility.
    2. Being sure "Listen 80" (or whatever port you want to use) appears in /etc/apache/httpd.conf
    3. That the proper servername is listed in httpd.conf (I use "ServerName 127.0.0.1:80")
    4. That you clicked reload in your browser and cleared out the cached page.
After you mess with all of this be sure to check Activity Monitor and Console to see that things are running. If httpd doesn't appear in AM after starting web sharing, you still have a problem. It doesn't hurt to try a reboot once in a while either.
    Good luck!

  • Cannot print through Airport after 7.3.1 update

Before the 7.3.1 update, I had no problems printing from a PC to my Epson printer connected to the USB port on my Airport Extreme n. After the update, I cannot print at all.
The Epson is seen in the Airport Utility.
I can install the printer using Bonjour or through the Windows setup method (previously described). The printer appears in the Windows Printers and Faxes and shows a ready status. When I try to print a test page, I get a communication error and no printing.
I have un-installed and re-installed but nothing works. I have deleter all TCP/IP ports from the printer ports section to eliminate the possibility of duplicate ports possibly causing a problem. I have restarted the entire system and then re-installed the printer using Bonjour. Same result. Printer appears showing a ready status but I still get a communication error.
Has anyone been able to overcome this problem? Does Apple make the previous firmware available for re-flashing?
    Thanks

Well, the downgrade to 7.2.1 did not seem to work. There is a communication problem somewhere.
My MacBook Pro will print normally (before and after the upgrade). Bonjour for Windows does see the Epson printer and it appears to install it normally. If the printer is disconnected, Bonjour does not see it. So Bonjour is seeing the printer.
After the printer installs on the WinXP machine (connected directly through the ethernet port on the airport extreme n) is shows ready. However, if the printer is disconnected from the airport, winxp still shows ready.
It seems that Bonjour properly sees the printer, but is not setting up the TCP/IP correctly. I have tried ports 9100, 9101 and 9202 for manual adjustments All to no avail.
I have tried manually seeing it up using the Epson drivers and generic postscript drivers. Neither configuration works. Connecting the Epson printer directly to the winxp machine works fine. And again, it worked prior to the update.
What the heck did Apple do? And has anyone with a similar problem fixed it? I really don't want to go back to a separate print server. But I need something reliable and Airport Extreme apparently is not it. At least this version of he firmware.

  • Why won't my networked printer un pause after 10.6.8 update?

I just downloaded and installed the latest 10.6.8 update. Since then every time I send a document to print it automatically pauses the printing and won't restart printing no matter what I do.
I am working on a 3.2 GHz Intel Based 27" iMac. Our networked printer is a Konica Minolta Bizhub C552.
This effects all printing no matter what the program is.
I have removed the printer from the queue and added it back to no avail.

    Nevermind.
I found a thread with a solution from Cnet and it worked perfectly. Back up and running.

  • Printer not working after 10.6.8 update

    Hi,
My printer was working fine until I updated my imac to 10.6.8.
Now, i have been getting this error whenever i try to print:
    Error:/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpII.app/Contents/ MacOS/rastertoescpII failed
I have an Epson stylus PHOTO RX640.
Im not sure about the driver as i havent needed to download a driver manually, before when I first tried the printer(before update) it automatically worked and printed and didnt ask me anything about drivers..
I tried deleting my print queue, restarting everything, changed my printer to factory settings. (I've looked on other places and i wasnt sure what it meant bby manually adding printer queue..?o.O)
My printer only doesnt want to print. it scans fine, just doesnt print.
    HELP PLEASEEE

I don't think that it was the 10.6.8 update.  There was an update to the Epson drivers that came out only a couple of days before 10.6.8 became available.  You most likely installed the Epson 2.7 drivers along with 10.6.8.  That version of the Epson drivers will not work with your printer.  See my post in a similar thread on how to revert back to the Epson 20.6 drivers.

  • ITunes sharing stops after exactly 80 minutes

Here's a weird one. I'm sharing my Mac's iTunes library, and connecting to it from my Windows machine. It works fine for 80 minutes. After that, the share disappears. I have to quit and restart iTunes on the Mac for it to re-appear. It's always exactly 80 minutes.
The Mac is being used occasionally during this 80 minutes, so it's not a screen-saver or sleep problem.
The Internet connection is through a cable modem, with a Linksys BEFSR41 router. Both machines are connected to the router, and they are assigned static IP addresses. The Linksys's "Filter Multicast" option is turned on, since this seems to be required to make iTunes sharing work. All incoming network connections are configured to point to the Mac. The Mac has its firewall on, but it's set to allow iTunes Music Sharing.
The Mac is a PowerBook G4 running the latest version of OS 10.4. The PC is a Lenovo laptop running Windows XP SP2. They're both running the latest version of iTunes.
    Any ideas?
