Web Sharing fails after 10.5.3 update

Hi there, folks. Most of the time I lurk around here and find great answers, but this time I need some help. I just upgraded to 10.5.3 and now the webserver is failing to load. I checked the console and found the following:
5/29/08 1:58:06 AM org.apache.httpd[295] httpd: aprsockaddr_infoget() failed for (insert addy here)
5/29/08 1:58:06 AM org.apache.httpd[295] httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName
5/29/08 1:58:06 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd[295]) Exited with exit code: 1
5/29/08 1:58:06 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
Repeat ad nauseam. I tried adjusting the servername (it was commented in the configuration) to localhost in etc/apache2/httpd.comf, restarted and was presented with this error:
5/29/08 2:08:55 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd) Unknown key: SHAuthorizationRight
5/29/08 2:08:55 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd[330]) Exited with exit code: 1
I'm just a PHP scripter, I don't know the details of apache configuration so kindly forgive my ignorance if I'm overlooking something obvious. It worked perfectly before the 10.5.3 update, so I'm pretty sure that it was the cause... this especially bites since I'm on a deadline.
Thanks in advance for any enlightenment you can offer!

Thanks for the defense, Carlene. Again he's chosen to insult both me and my work instead of provide any kind of useful reference. I guess someone as smart as he has nothing better to do than to play vulgar games with those of us who are less mentally matured.
At any rate, no, you don't need the tilde. Be sure you have the spelling and capitalization in the files/terminal written correctly, that the .conf file you saved was in plain-text, and that the chown command was actually successful. In theory once you restart web sharing, it will work. There are a couple of other things that I did which may or may not have had any effect:
1. A permissions check with Disk Utility.
2. Being sure "Listen 80" (or whatever port you want to use) appears in /etc/apache/httpd.conf
3. That the proper servername is listed in httpd.conf (I use "ServerName 127.0.0.1:80")
4. That you clicked reload in your browser and cleared out the cached page.
After you mess with all of this be sure to check Activity Monitor and Console to see that things are running. If httpd doesn't appear in AM after starting web sharing, you still have a problem. It doesn't hurt to try a reboot once in a while either.
Good luck!

  • Web Server died after 10.6.2 update

I had my server completely setup and it suddenly stopped accepting web connections. It acts like the web page is not online however when I check the service its running. This happened before and I ended up reinstalling the server. I don't have the time to reinstall and need a fix. I have stopped the service and restarted the server with no luck. When I start it in Server Admin all the log info disappers however when I stop the service all the logs reappear. Any Ideas???

do you mean web services fail after the 10.6.2 update or is this after an upgrade from 10.5.x to 10.6.2?
can you verify your web data is all present?
    what do the logs say?
also, do you have a backup of the boot drive? you may have to restore the config files, but i'm guessing it won't require a full reinstall. that's rarely necessary.

  • Web Sharing broken after Restore System from Time Machine

If you do a complete System Restore from a Time Machine backup, and had Web Sharing turned on, it won't work after the restore. The problem is the restore doesn't put back a folder for Apache logs. It should be in /var/log (or /private/var/log). Without the folder there, Apache won't start and you'll get an error when trying to access anything on the local website:
Safari can’t connect to the server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://localhost/control/” because it could not connect to the server “localhost”.
To fix the problem, use Terminal:
    cd /var/log
    sudo mkdir Apache2
    sudo apachectl restart
Then Apache will be happy and you'll be back in business!

The problem has gone after updated to 10.9.4

  • Web Sharing issue after restore

After restoring my imac from a time machine backup recently, everything is working great apart from my Web Sharing.
I used to go to http://localhost/~username, that just gives localhost, server not found.
I can still connect to the mysql server at localhost, but any attempt to browse any of my created sites comes up blank and looks to be a possible apache problem as http://localhost is also blank.
In sharing prefs, web sharing is on, I've turned it off and on again. The weird thing is that where it previously would say http://localhost/~username it not says http://codename.lan.
Connecting to this doesn't work surprisingly so I don't know what to say!
Any starting places would be most welcome!

  • Is anyone having Web Sharing issues after switching from 10.6 to Mountain Lion?

I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard (10.6.8) but I wanted to see if anyone is experiencing any issues with their Web Sharing after making the switch. I use Web Sharing daily to build and test  web sites for my clients and when I made the switch to 10.6 none of my database driven sites worked. Ultimately I had to install a new version of PHP 5 because 10.6 came with and older version.  And I had to reinstall SQL for my databases along with some other related items.  It wasn't a major problem but it took a couple of days to track down the issue.  Anyone seen any weirdness like that with Mountain Lion?

Web sharing is absent in Mountain Lion. Apple removed the feature. There're some unofficial hacks to bring it back, search the forums.

  • 802.1x Authentication for University Network Fails After 10.5.5 Update

Hi everyone, I hope that someone might be able to help me with my problem. I used to connect to the internet through my university's network at my dorm using the ethernet connection. Even before when I was using 10.5.4 I had to do the 802.1x authentication manually after every boot.
Now that I updated to 10.5.5 everytime I try to connect it tells me "802.1x Authentication has failed", does anyone have similar problems, solutions??? This is everything the IT department's homepage has to offer: http://www.unibz.it/ict/8021x_mac1/index.html?LanguageID=EN&
    Thanks a lot!
Btw, it seems the update somehow messed up Timemachine as well, but that doesn't bother me as much as the internet connection.

    Hi,
You probably need to install a root certificate into your Mac's system keychain so that your Mac knows it can trust the University's Certificate Authority (CA).
They should be able to provide you with a file for the CA and instructions.
    cheers

  • Apple VPN Client fails after 10.4.7 update

I have three different remote computers that cannot connect over VPN remotely to our xServe running 10.3.9. After installing 10.4.7 update recently, all three remote computers fail to even hit the server logs (ie. no connection, no denial, no nothing on the server end). I had one machine that was running 10.4.6 tonight. VPN connection worked fine. Ran the software update, restarted, now that computer fails to make a connection.
It has nothing to do with the firewall on the xServe. I have turned that off with no success.
Any ideas? I appreciate the help.

    to uninstall the client:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108021
you can create a client installer with the admin
    under File, Create Client Installer...
Thanks for this. I will look into it further. The document you refer to states that 10.4 Clients should only be stopped rather than uninstalled, this concerns me a little. As I have tried simply stopping the service I will escalate to uninstalling the client and then see if reinstalling resolves the issue. Many thanks for your response.

  • Printer Sharing Stopped After 10.5.7 Update

Shortly after performing the 10.5.7 update to an Intel iMac, I discovered that it is no longer able to share its USB printer. Local/USB (from the iMac) printing works fine, but other computers find themselves either "Looking for printer name" (when using the same print queue as before), or "Unable to get printer status (Forbidden)!" if creating a new Bonjour printer entry. The print sharing settings all look fine and as before on the iMac.
The update on the iMac was very clean: Checked with Disk First Aid (DFA), rebooted into Safe Mode (shift key down), ran the Combo updater, checked with DFA again, and repaired permissions (nothing needed to be repaired). There was no hint of a problem, other than this. Unfortunately, this iMac is the household print server and I've been unable to restore functionality using every trick I know.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to troubleshoot this one?
    Thank you.

Have you tried deleting the printer and then re-adding it? Also, Printer Sharing is selected?
Yes, thanks. I tried all the basics:
I created a new printer queue, and shared that one instead (better not to un-do something that is working). Same result.
I turned off Printer Sharing, rebooted, turned it back on again. Same story.
There is something very non-obvious going on here. I just can't put my finger on it.

  • Flash 10 install fail after 10.6.2 update. Help please.

It all started after the new 10.6.2 update I did for Snow Leopard
I don't know if this is an something you here at adobe can fix or its something going on at Apple.
Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me?
Opera, and firefox unexpectidy quit as well.
and my wacom drivers are out of wack.
I tryed to uninstall flash player but that too unexpectidly quits.
When I try to restart it gets hung up, and I have to do a hard start to get logged into my computer again.
I ran the disk utility and repaired permissions, that didn't help.
Anyway the install failed said I should contact Adobe so here I am.

    Good News I Fixed it.
So what I did was downoad and install the MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.2.dmg
    Found here
    http://www.apple.com/support/snowleopard/
On the left you will see the downloads, The one you want is the (combo) version.
Just as a precaution, I would recommend backups, as these little glitches are often percursers to the big fail.
I use corbonite, you can search for it on your own, or time machine ect, whatever works best for you.
Sorry I may have been rude, I have always liked Adobe products and I have no doubt that the people at Adobe are working hard to keep everything working, it must be quite hard to deal with irate customers all day.
    Hope this helps some people.
    Thanks again.

  • HP 6180c always fails after each Apple/HP update

I have a HP 6180c All-in-One which is a lot like my old Jaguar car. When it works it is great.
My HP 6190c ALWAYS fails on scanning after EVERY Mac HP driver update. I have to uninstall (sounds like Windows) and reinstall the HP drivers, then all is well. That is until the next update, when this ritual is repeated all over. When I call HP they say to do exactly what I do and seem proud to tell me that. Anyone know of a real solution to this? Only the scan fails.

The HP updates are just like an update to iPhoto or iTunes and are not connected to any OS updates. For example, 10.6.1 didn't contain any updates to HP printers, but there was an HP update that came out around the same time.
If the OS updates are causing you problems, it could be that the printer queue is getting deleted and you just need to add the printer again from System Preferences.

  • Outlook Web Access fails after migrating SSL certificate to dedicated SSL gateway

Hi we have just migrated our SSL certificate form our Outlook exchange server, outlook web access works perfectly but two of our users who have Blackberry devices set up to get their email via owa now fail.
Everything worked fine before the migration.
The new SSL gateway is an Apache box running mod_proxy, mod_SSL and mod_sec.  Protecting the box running owa and IIS6.
I can provide the http.conf etc, but I can see the traffic passed by Apache but I am getting a 401 message on the way back through to the device.
Is there a specific IIS/Exchange or Apache config I need to enable to allow BB access?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello there!
You may have run up against some of the complexities between BIS and OWA. There are a couple of circumstances where BIS can't integrate to OWA. Plus, if the mailbox name changed, that may be the problem as well. While I'm neither a BIS nor OWA admin, I can point you to information resources that hopefully can help you.

  • Screen Sharing Fails After 5 Seconds

    Heres the deal.
    1) Both running Snow Leopard.
    2) New Macbook Pro and New iMac top of the line.
    3) Fast Bandwidth speeds.
    4) Florida <--> Utah.
    5) Screen Sharing not working! Steve Jobs ***!
Can anyone help with this issue? And Ralph Johns, if you have any advice please share. I just dont want to hear how it works on your G4/1Ghz Dual Processor! That just wouldn't really help.
    Sean

    Hi,
    So iChat 5
Which increment versions ? (if Updated)
    Snow Leopard.
    Update to ?
Exactly what is "Fast Bandwidth" where you are ?
In iChat, in the Video menu, have you turned On Screen Sharing ?
In your routing device have you used UPnP to open the ports iChat uses ?
Do you get any error message ?
Does the Connection Doctor say anything in the Errors tab ?
Do you get the Pop up to Send to Apple (Or not) ?
My ageing MacBook Pro of only 3 years of age can also Screen Share
Sometimes I even let it do it to the 8 and 1/2 year old G4/Dual 1Ghz
Your reason for telling me your 2) is to Say "I have the Latest and Greatest, so it should work".
My Reason for telling people my G4 can do it is to say "It can be run on anything above a G4/1Ghz Dual processor, so it's not the Mac or the App"
    Notes.
iChat 4 and 5 use 20 ports to do various bits.
One of these, that is used during Screen Sharing is Random. Only UPnP will get around this. (Or Port Mapping Protocol on a Apple Base Station).
My Internet Connection is 8Mbps down (I get about 7.25) and 780 up (I get about 700) and this is average here.
24Mbps both up and down is about top of the Range. 8Mbps down and 500 up is more common.
In Australia anything faster than 128kbps outside of a major town is considered fast.
What is the internet speed like in Utah ?
Are we talking a town or somewhere a bit more remote ?
    Re 5)
It's nice that you rate Steve jobs with 3 stars (I presume there are only three stars in your rating system). I don't see what that has to do with Screen Sharing though.

  • SMB/Windows Sharing Issues after 10.4.4 Update?

After upgrading to 10.4.4, I'm finding that I'm now unable to connect via my Windows XP Workstation. I've been using the combination of Windows Sharing and SharePoints to share out some directories to my XP box, which has been working great until this update.
I've double checked that Windows Sharing is still enabled (and have turned it off and back on), rebooted, checked my SharePoints configuration, fixed permissions, etc.
Is anyone else out there having problems with Windows Sharing after this update?

  • S.M.A.R.T status failing after 10.4.7 update. Should I be worried?

After the 10.4.7 upgrade of my iMac Core Duo, the disk utility tries to upset me (with luck) saying that my drive is failing (fatal hardware error). The system might be correct, but I doubt it. The drive seems to working OK (as far as I can tell). However, the system says to backup 'as much as possible' and replace the drive.
Is this just a software issue or is my drive really on the edge of dying?
There is a 136 Gb Mac partition, and a 15 Gb Windows partition.
The repair and verify buttons in disk utility do not work. It seems there is not much I can test.

Check this link regarding SMART technology.
    http://www.ariolic.com/activesmart/smart-technology.html
This is not something you should ignore or doubt and is not a software issue especially if the drive cannot be repaired by Disk First Aid repair and the SMART status indicates the hard drive is failing.
Apple does not manufacture hard drives and hard drives can and do fail even when new and still under warranty. I've owned a number of Macs over the years and I experienced a complete hard drive failure only once - before SMART technology was available on a G3 PowerBook. The PB was less than one year old and without any warning it happened. Apple replaced the hard drive under the standard 1-yr warranty period but foolishly I didn't maintain a backup at the time (since the computer was new) and none of my existing data was recoverable and I lost everything.
Per the SMART status warning, backup your data NOW and assuming your Mac is still under warranty, call AppleCare to have the hard drive replaced.

  • Powerpoint web sharing fails with "some presenting features are unavailable due to server connectivity issues"

    Hi,
I am having problems getting PowerPoint sharing working with Lync 2013. My setup is as follows
Lync 2013 Enterprise pool (november 2013 updates) on Windows 2012 and
    Windows 2012 webapp farm
    Kemp HLB
Everything is working ok, including whiteboards and application sharing, but i cannot get the powerpoint sharing to work. I always get the "some presenting features are unavailable due to server connectivity issues" for internal or external
    users.
The webapp looks healthy and there are no errors in the Lync server or the webapp event log. Discovery urls can be accessed and i have put the .net 3.5 as suggested in a few forums.
When a user starts the PowerPoint it successfully loads the file to the Lync file share and request goto the webapp server. I am using a HLB which shows me that requests are forwarded to the webapp farm. I have removed the HLB for testing and get the same
    results.
I did log this with the forum a month or so ago, but I had a file upload issue then which is now solved, but the powerpoint sharing is not.
    any ideas?
