Printing a username on the printout

We would like to print the username either on the top or bottom of the printout.
We are running Sol 8 on Sun Enterprise Servers 250 & 450.
We are finding that we have a lot of unclaimed print jobs or print jobs that should not have been printed in the first place.
If you have any ideas - Please help!

You can set the print queue to print banner pages quite easily with lpadmin. With a little work, I think you could write a filter to add the username to pages, but the banner page will be much easier, and the users won't get upset that their jobs are being written over ;-)
Another option is to run 2 print queues (1 public but stopped, 1 local-only), and only move jobs that people actually want from the public queue into the active queue. Or leave it as is, and re-organise charging based on who the printer logfile says sent it...
It all depends what you need exactly.

There is no printer output when using the PrintOut method

I have a VB6 app with CR XI, and a customer found a situation that when printing a report directly to the printer using the PrintOut method, there is no printer output or error message.
Some reports using the same code print normally, but a report that is preceded by another print call, presents this behavior.
And when the output is directed to the screen, we can see the report.
Could someone give me an idea of what is the problem?

Not sure if you have applied any service Packs to CR? If please do so and test again. Then you can upgrade to CR XI R2 for free, use your XI Keycode and download Service Pack 4 from this link:

You'll find the distribution files for your app also from that same download area.
If you don't want to upgrade to XI R2 then download all patches from XI and test again. This issues rings a bell that it may have been fixed.

My Lr5.7.1 doesn't recognize my Epson XP-760 printer and after customising the printout in the Print Module the Print options (lower right AND Main Menu Archive Print) are disabled

I am running Lr5.7.1 on an iMac Retina 5K (OS X Yosemite 10.10.1). My printer (Epson XP-760) works fine with all other applications but not with Lr!!! After selecting my printout preferences in the Print Module it works if I select Print File and save it to the desktop and then take it up as a Preview and print it from there. This is not what I want. I expect that the Print button (low right corner) should be abled rather than disabled and send to printer directly from within Lr's Print Module. It doesn't matter if the printer is on Wi-Fi or USB (or even both).
What is the problem? What else can or should I do to make it work as I expect?

I have updated Yosemite to 10.10.2 and my problems remain. Reading About Lightroom 5.7.1, the pop-up window doesn't specifically say 5.7.1 and there is no choice to select More details (I can only trust that I am running really 5.7.1). I am sure that I really am Printing to file since this is the only choice I have ever seen enabled in my Lr5.7.1, whereas I have NEVER seen the Print option enabled. I enclose a screen dump (in Swedish) fyi.
So, I am still confused but on a somewhat higher level!

Printing HTML content without the printout dialog

Hi all,
I'm using a "CL_ISHMED_PMD_HTMLVIEWER" object to display an HTML file inside a PMD.
Now, when I'm trying to print it, the OLE printout dialog pops up and ask me which printer I want to use.
I want to hardcode the destination device and suppress this dialog.
I don't mind setting an outside button in my PMD and print the file in an other way (directly printing the file maybe), but it MUST be without the dialog.
Does anyone have an idea?

Goto SU01 transaction.
Enter your user id & click display
Goto PARAMETERS tab
enter PRI & value as LOCL or LP01 depending on the output device which you have configured for SAP.( You can check the same in SPAD transaction => Output device)
SAVE
You wont get the popup.

When I print from Firefox, if the printout will be more than one page, several lines at the top of the second page (or any pages after the first) are not printed. Is this a known problem? Or is there a work-around?

Fixed the problem by going back to the earlier version of Firefox 5.0.1 I have concluded it is a problem with 6.0.1 and 6.0.2 which I upgraded to in the last few weeks.

How can i get Firefox to change all the printable info on a web page print to black, so i can see the printout?

Firefox correctly changes the print background to white, but leaves the colored info as it was on the web page. My monochrome printer uses Grey Scale to interpret the colors, but most colors are interpreted with so dimly that they cannot be seen on the printout.
I am running Firefox 3.6.10 with Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.9rc2 and the OS is Ubuntu 10.04. I have disabled the Ubuntu Firefox Modifications Extension, but the results are the same.

Printing the username at the bottom of the page?

At our high school we are using an Xserve G5 (10.4.8 server) using Workgroup Manager with labs of eMacs (10.4.8 client) for our students. Is there anyway to have the students papers print out with their usernames on the bottom of the page so we know who is printing inappropriate materials?? We have HP LaserJet 4200's if it makes any difference.

We were looking for this too, but I don't think it exists. However, you can run your print jobs through your Mac Server and turn on print services. Then select the print queue to print a standard cover page. This will print out the username that they are logged in under before each print along with the name of the file/document they are printing.

I am trying to install a Kodak ESP 5210 printer.
I set up the printer - it is on my wireless network.
I installed the Kodak printer software - it too installed correctly.
At the final step I need to "add printer" I click + in the printer window.
I then choose the kodakaio directory under "Windows".
I then choose kodakesp5200_00.
I am asked for the print server username and password.
I tried my log in password with just my first name in lowercase as username as this field was filled out by default.
I tried lots of different things, including no password, but the printer "Add" button never becomes not greyed out.
Would appreciate help. Kodak were no help.
I have pinged the printer successfully so its definitely on the network.

Firefox web pages often print with many extra spaces between letters, making the printout illegible and useless..

When I try to print e-mails in Thunderbird and web pages in Firefox, the individual letters usually print (either to my laser printer or to Acrobat Distiller) with many spaces between each letter, making the printout nearly illegible and useless. Any thoughts? And settings that would correct this? (I never had this problem before the last few months, using earlier versions of Firefox and Thunderbird.

about:config has many listings for each of my printers, but instead of starting with "print.print_printer" [naming the printer], most listings that name a printer start with "print_printer" or simply printer_[printer name]. I don't want to reset all the listings, not knowing beforehand if that would be advisable.

You need to work with the calibration parameters to get a good match from screen to print. There are no fixed values - basically whatever settings produce a match are the right ones.
First, set the white point - luminance and color - so that screen white is a visual equivalent to paper white. You can be very specific about this, with a viewing booth right next to the display and a particular paper as target. Or you can take a more generalistic approach. That too will usually work well, as long as you keep the aim in sight: screen white = paper white.
Don't trust the white point presets. You will usually have to adjust to compensate for your working environment. Make sure you can adjust both along the blue/yellow Kelvin scale and the green/magenta axis. Any given Kelvin value may well be wrong on the green/magenta axis.
Next set a realistic black point. This is important. Monitor manufacturers throw about completely unrealistic contrast ranges that you will never see on paper. A good glossy inkjet paper will be in the vicinity of 250-300:1, or a black point around 0.4 - 0.5 cd/m² if your white point is at 120. If you have a monitor that goes down to, say, 0.2, which most monitors today will, you're in for an unpleasant surprise.
Leave gamma at 2.2. Gamma is remapped from profile to profile and is "invisible" - the net result is always linear. You just want to stay close to native so that the monitor behaves at its best.
If you have a wide gamut monitor soft proofing in Photoshop can be useful. With a standard gamut monitor it's mostly a waste of time since monitor gamut is the limiting one.
Oh, and let Photoshop manage color. Make sure you have the right paper/ink profile and also make sure you have the right paper selected in the printer driver. This controls the total amount of ink.

My pc crashed. All my info is on excel in my pc. I managed to print out excel. Can I transfer the printout to my MacBook Air excel?

I have a pc that has the majority of my info. Two years ago I purchased a MacBook Air. Recently my pc crashed and I am able to start it up for very short periods of time. One of those moments I printed out a worksheet in excel. My question is am I able to scan the printouts and get the info into my MacBook Air excel, or by any other means. I was unable to save the excel worksheet from my pc into my memory stick, but I can try again, if necessary. Thanks

If you can fire it up long enought to print, surely you can copy the documents to a flash drive in less time. Keep trying.
Scanning spreadsheets and using OCR is going to be tough, nevermind getting any formulas.
If the Hard Drive is not the cause of your maladies, then I would use a USB drive adapter to copy the files to your MBA. The cost of an adapter is around $25-$30. I'd say it beats the heck out of trying to make use of printouts. I use an Apricorn Drive adapter. Since you don't menti0on the cause of the system crash, I can only guess and probability says its the drive though, for which this won't work.

First design your custom form and configure that form(assign to appropriate node in SPRO) in SPRO under following path: Travel Management->Travel Expense->Dialog and travel Expense Control->Forms->PDF-Based Forms->Set up feature TRVFE for settlement form (Execute).
Give the custom form name in that node.

Printing to PDF creates document with only part of the printout, improperly sized

I am printing from a windows application with my Adobe Acrobat Standard 10.1.9, and when it prints (to a standard Portrait size document), only about 25% of the document appears in the PDF, as if I had told it to zoom in on the document.
I want the PDF to comtain the complete document, fit to one portrait sized sheet of paper. I want this to be the default behavior.

Ok, I think I found what needs to be changed, but I cannot set it "permanently" - that's what I need to figure out now.
When it comes up with the print dialog, I choose Adobe Acrobat as my printer, and then in the print dialog, there is a properties button. That opens a window and one of the options is labeled "Adobe PDF Page Size" - this seems to default to be blank. If I set that to "Letter" everything works as I want.
So the question is, how do I make "Adobe PDF Page Size" default to "Letter" under the Adobe Acrobat properties?
