Printing causes Office 2013 applications to crash

We’ve a fresh installed Windows 8 Pro and Office 2013. Printing works correctly in every application but Office 2013.
Word, Excel, Outlook … printing causes the application to crash.
Any idea if this is a known issue?

This is the answer that fixes the problem every time, based on my experience and that of others. It works for both the 32 & 64-bit versions of Windows (I'm one of those odd ducks who runs 32-bit Windows 8.1 Professional and it worked perfectly for me).
The problem is not Windows, either 7 or 8, it's Office 2013 and a variety of unique HP LaserJet printers.  By the way, the glitch occurs whether you use networked printing or a USB cable; I discovered that early-on when I
was trying to troubleshoot the issue.  Also (and it should go without saying), always reboot the computer after you make the change to the driver.  Thanks to Shane, who apparently was the first one to discover the solution over a year ago, right
after Office 2013 came out and the problem manifested itself.
After lots of testing I have found a setting that has fixed all my HP CP5520 and HP M4555 printers that were crashing when printing from Office 365's 2013 pro plus.
It's the driver setting in Device settings -> Installable options -> Printer Status notification, this needs to be disabled.
I hope this also fixes other peoples problems.

  • Office 2013 applications crash with Document Information Panel open

I am using Office Professional Plus 2013 to work with documents that reside in SharePoint 2010 document libraries.
The content type(s) in that SharePoint site collection are set to automatically show the Document Information Panel when opened in Office applications.  By opening any of these documents in their desktop app (via browser or Skydrive Pro), I am able
to check-out and edit content; but the check-in step always crashes the application, giving a pop-up error: "An unknown errors has caused <office program> to stop working."
By choosing to NOT automatically show the Doc Info Panel for these SharePoint documents, Office 2013 programs can handle everything just fine (editing, versioning, etc.).
If I don't auto-show the Doc Info Panel, but then manually open the panel once I get inside the program, this crashes the program in the same way as before.
If I save a local copy of a document and show the Doc Info Panel in any way (auto or manual), Office 2013 crashes.
I couldn't find any postings on this error and I don't see this incompatibility listed in the
Office 2013 known issues article and was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience?

I am having the exact same issue.  I have created a Custom Site Column which is defined as a CHOICE.  I do not want to put in a Default so left it blanl but field must be populated.  I then put this into a Document Library Content Type.
With documents that are already been uploaded and in the Library when I pull up in Office Web Apps, I can make changes to the document but when I try to save it crashes.   Also, when I pull up document and say edit in Office Web Apps there is no
way to change information in the Document Information Panel since this does not appear.   (I forgot to mention that I required DIF to display in Content Type also).
This only happens on blank column fields when trying to save.  If I do a Quick EDIT of the list and change my blank Choice columns to something(I created as radio buttons) and then go through the process it works OK and will save.  Not sure
if this pertains to your issue but, I just prepopulate all columns with what the should be,  when a brand new document from word, excel etc is created it is created from the Desktop version of Word Excel and when IT saves to SharePoint, I get
a message to choose information to put into properties before it actually saves.
    Hope this helps a little.

  • Office 2013 applications crash when opening/saving files in OneDrive for Business folder

    My setup:
    Windows 7 64-bit
    Office 2013 Professional
OneDrive for Business (connected to Office 365)
    Issue Description:
    Example 1:
    1.  I create a file in OneDrive for Business using the appropriate web app (Excel web app, for example).
    2.  I edit the file in the web app, I save the file in my OneDrive for Business
    3.  I sync OneDrive for Business with it's local folder
    4.  Now I open the folder in Windows Explorer and double-click the Excel file
    5.  Excel splash screen shows up for a bit, and then Excel crashes
    Example 2:
    1.  I open Word on my Windows 7 laptop
    2.  I start from a blank document and create some content in the document
    3.  I use the Save As option under the File menu to save the file to my local OneDrive for Business folder
    4.  As soon as I click the Save button on the dialog, Word crashes
The same happens with all the Office applications.
    Important Note:
If I run the above examples with Excel/Word in SAFE mode, there is absolutely no issue.
What have I done so far?
    1.  I have made sure that the DisplayLink driver is the latest version from the manufacturer
    2.  There is no bluetooth send-to add-in in any of the Office applications
    3.  No add-ins are enabled in any of the Office applications (not sure if there are "stealth" ones that are not visible in the Options/Add-Ins dialog?)
Any assistance with this would be much appreciated.
    JeHarry

    Hi JeHarry,
Because I didn't have Windows 7, I did a test with Windows 8.1 based on your description. However, in my testing, everything worked well.
Please repair your Office under Control Panel, compare the result.

  • Office 2013 applications cannot be made to show the "Documents" folder when opening and saving files

(Windows Server 2012R2 and Windows 8.1 PRO)
We are redirecting the user's "Documents" folder to the network (using Folder Redirection). The OS hides this fact however, and most applications simply see the "Documents" folder when opening or saving files, including Office 2003.
Office 2013 however displays the actual path, which in this case is:
    \\sever1\redirect$\username\documents
Even if you forcibly set the "Default local file location:"  in the Options Save area to the 'Documents' folder in, say, Word, Word immediately converts the local path to the network path.
Is there anyway to get Office 2013 to follow the virtual path? All of other apps follow it and expose the users only to "Documents".
    Thank you so much.
    Dana

There's nothing in my FAQ concerning screen savers, so I'm unsure why you decided to take that approach. From your description, it looks like you only tried a few of the suggestions before throwing in the towel. That's fine, it's your call.
I don't have the problems you described with 10.4.7. Usually when folks have problems after an update, these are caused by either installing an update on an already-corrutped system or they've installed third-party applications or hardware that have been rendered incompatible by the update.
Before installing software updates, you may wish to consider the advice in my "Installing Software Updates" FAQ. Taking the steps therein before installing an update often helps avert problems and gives you a fallback position in case trouble arises.

  • HP Laserjet P1102 does not print following Office 2013 installation

    Hi
The computer was upgraded to Office 2013 last week.  Since then the HP Laserjet P1102 printer doesn't work.
It appears that whatever drivers are installed onto the computer are then over-ridden by the printer's own drivers, which creates multiple icons of the printer with errors.   None of them work.  It also seems to be trying to install as an external CD unit.
We have had all the computer drivers removed and re-installed, we've checked that the correct drivers are installed, we've changed the lead, changed the printer for one of exactly the same model, gone through all the HP on line assistance.  Hours and hours have been spent on this problem both remotely and hands on by IT knowledgeable people in the last couple of days and no-one can identify a resolution.
    Ideas please?
    Thanks

    Hi@JG11 ,
I see by your post since upgrading to Office 2013, you can no longer print. I would be happy to help you, but I will need some more information.
Try turning off the Smart Install from the CD: On the Windows computer, go to start, computer, right click the CD for the
printer and left click open in new window, go to util/siutility.exe/HP smart install utility.
Shows printer or PC - select printer.
    Then click disable.
(printer has automatic installation feature when connected to a computer by a USB cable)
Are you having this issue from all applications or just the Office 2013 software?
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. http://www.hp.com/go/tools>Using HP Diagnostic Tools for HP Printers in Windows.
    Run all the Windows Updates.
The application you are using might require the printer to be set as the default printer and probably doesn't have the ability to search for other printers. Close the application. Set the printer as the default printer. From Devices and Printers, right click the printer, left click set as default.
    Restart the computer.
Open the application and make sure the application is set to the proper printer name.
    Try printing again.
I have provided a URL on issues with printing in Word if the issue persists. How to troubleshoot printing problems in Word.

What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)

  • Printer driver hangs when printing with Office 2013/Windows 8 64 bit

    Printer: HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi
Printer Driver: V5.1 (up to date, downloaded from HP support website) or Generic V5.6
    OS: Windows 8 Professional 64bit
When I try to print a certain Excel document with Excel 2013 and printer driver V5.1, the program hangs and needs to be terminated via task manager. This happens always with the same document, but not with all documents. The program hangs also when opening the print preview for the same document.
The same document prints fine with the generic printer driver V5.6 and with the driver that comes with Windows 8.
The same document prints fine with driver V5.1 under Windows 7 and Office 2010. The combination Windows 7/Office 2013 was not tested. The combination Windows 8/Office 2010 was also not tested.
When I try to print an empty document with Word 2013 and generic printer driver V5.6, the program hangs and needs to be terminated via task manager.
My conclusion is that the HP printer drivers have a problem with either Windows 8 or Office 2013 or a combination of both.
The printer driver that comes with Windows 8 and is automatically installed is useful as a temporary workaround, but it lacks certain options, e.g. manual duplex.
On request, I am ready to send the Excel document by e-mail for verification of the problem.
Any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Uli
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

From what you describe you are having issues printing from MS Office. Have you had trouble printing from other resources on your computer (e.g. from the internet or another program)? The first thing I am going to suggest is that we start by uninstalling and reinstalling the printer from the resources available online.
First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it (this is important). Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer.
In the START menu type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.

  • Calling RfcClose() while handle in use causes my C++ application to crash

    Hi!
I was hoping someone here could help me with this. I am using librfc32u.dll in my application. My application invokes RFCs on SAP, using the SDK function RfcCallReceiveEx(). At times, this call takes too long, so, from another thread, I do a RfcClose() on the connection handle.
Nearly all the time this seems to work (i.e., it successfully cancels the execution). But a couple of times I have seen that it causes my application to crash.
I wanted to know whether such a programming approach is allowed or not.
    Thanks,
    Mustansir
P.S. If this is not the appropriate forum for this question, please help me out and let me know where i should redirect this question to. Thanks.

    Hi,
The reason to crash may be because of time out happens due to more processing time. This may be because of resource consumption or process load etc.
For this you can try out with increasing relavent SAP system parameters with the help of SAP BASIS.
    Now, btw, are u connecting a C++ application into SAP ?? ,
Even you can post this in this thread: may be useful: Java
    SAP NetWeaver Application Server
    Hope this helps,

  • How to migrate Office 2010 Pro application most recently opened document (MRU) to Office 2013 applications

I am upgrading from Office 2010 Pro to Office 2013 Pro. In my test, we discovered that the MRUs are not getting migrated over from the Office 2010 Pro applications into the Office 2013 Pro applications.   I am using the Microsoft
Office 2013 OCT to do the configurations.  In the OCT, I have "migrate user settings" checked, but that did not work for the users MRUs.  I came across the following link
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/67b3622f-5b7c-4c57-b71d-c8c7de6f7da9/office-2010-pro-to-2013-not-migrating-settings-and-recent-history?forum=officeitpro
That suggests manually creating the Migration key with sub keys like below
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Migration\Word]
    "UpgradeVersion"=dword:0000000d
    "Lang"=dword:00000409
On the test machine that I was using and had installed Microsoft Office 2013 Pro on, I found the keys listed as follows
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Migration\Word]
    "UpgradeVersion"=dword:0000000e
    "Lang"=dword:00000000
    1) I would like to know which is correct subkey ("UpgradeVersion" and "Lang") to use?
    2) Since I am using the OCT, can I add or import them into the OCT add registry entries section?
    Thanks for your help.

Since you are doing an uninstall-upgrade the MRU list will not migrate by default.
"UpgradeVersion"=dword:0000000d means Office 14.0, also known as Office 2010
"UpgradeVersion"=dword:0000000e means Office 15.0, also known as Office 2013
"Lang"=dword:00000409 means Locale ID = English_United_States, and the "Lang"=dword:00000000 means default.
In this case, you plan to migrate Office 2010 to 2013. thus, the correct one is
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Migration\Word]
    "UpgradeVersion"=dword:0000000e
"Lang"=dword:00000409 (00000000 is ok as well)
Yes, you may import them into OCT registry entries section, or you may deploy these registry keys before migration.

  • SCCM 2012 - Deploying Office 2013 Application - Setup Errors

    dear SCCM admins,
i am trying to test deploying office 2013 to users in my company. i made the application and deployments. the application appeared in the software center and in the application catalog.
The problem is whenever a user "which is not a local administrator" tries to install this application, it gives me the setup errors message saying "You must have administrative privileges to install or uninstall this
    product."
Is there any specific configuration to make to overcome this behavior???
    appreciate your suggesstions

As you can see from the screenshot you need to add the ProductID after the uninstall command.
See here for finding the ProductID

  • Cannot start office 2013 applications

Environment: Windows 7 Pro X64, Office 2013 Home and Office X64
Office applications are not starting, none of them (outlook, word, excel, powerpoint). There is no error message, just don’t start. I see it in task manager, to appear on the list of running tasks, then quit. Doesn’t start in safe

I tried to repair, the quick repair was done without error, but did nothing. The online repair says, that the process was unsuccessful.

  • Office 2013 applications will not run as a domain users

I have a windows 7 64-bit pc with 2013 office home and and business installed. When trying to access Office as a domain user the programs will not run. Is there a fix for this other than making the users local admins?

    Hi,
Which version of Office 2013 did you deployed, Windows Installer-based version or the Click-to-Run version?
Did you install the Office product with local administrator account? I notice that the users must be local administrators on their computers to install Office:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee624360.aspx
If we add the local admin right to the user, can the Office programs be launched? If so, repair the Office programs and then remove the local admin right. See if it can work.

  • TS1702 what is causing the iboostup application to crash after the last upgrade?

That usually means that Windows notices that the program isn't responding.

  • Syncing IPhone causing my Downloaded Applications to crash.

It seems like whenever I synch music from to my IPhone from ITunes, I have at least one or two applications that stop working. After the music synch, I try to launch the application and it immediately fails to load. My only solution is to remove the application completely and them download it again. Any Ideas?

I fixed it, but how is purely speculative on my part. My problems began when I decided to synch my relatively new iPhone to backup new applications and music I had downloaded via 3G or WIFI (don't remember which). Once I did, only core application worked and even some music wasn't visible anymore. I reset to factory defaults and then re-synched...same problem. Then I noticed that on the Applications tab, I got a warning that an application wasn't authorized on my computer. It asked if I wanted to Authorize it and I said yes and then re-synched and everything worked after that. I don't know which part fixed it, but it took quite a while to reset, and another while to reload.
    Good luck.

  • Office 2013 with Lexmark printer - Cannot change printer settings

I have a Lexmark x4650 and I can open the printer settings within all of the Office 2013 applications (Windows 7 64-bit). But after I change the settings to what I want, I cannot exit the printer settings dialog. If I click OK, nothing happens. If I click
Cancel, nothing happens. If I click the X in the upper right of the window, nothing happens. The only way to close the printer settings dialog is to force the Office application to close through the Windows task manager. I've tried re-installing both Office
and the Lexmark print driver/applications with no success. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks,
    John

We need to narrow down the issue, to see if the root cause is on Office side or Printer side. Please try below steps for troubleshooting:
    1. Try obtaining an updated printer driver from the printer's manufacturer. And update your PC, restart and try again.
    2. Try to select another printer in Printer
drop-down list in any Office application, and try again to see if we have the same issue.
Printing is primarily controlled by settings in Microsoft Windows:
    3. Please try to print a file outside the Office application, say a .pdf file to determine whether your printer setup in Windows is correct or using the Windows Printing
    Troubleshooter.
Hope this can help you. Thanks.
