Printing from OSX Lion Client to Windows Server 2008

I have tried these methods:
=============
via System Preferences
IP Printer (Line Printer Daemon - LPD)
Address (both Server Name and IP Address)
e.g.  lpd://servername/queue
Queue
Print Using (HP LaserJet P4010 Series)
Result:
After a test print is sent, the print queue dialog reads:
Processing Job.
Copying Print Data.
Connecting to Printer.
Paused - "/usr/libexec/cups/backend/lpd failed"
**** I have also tried using the hostname in place of the IP address
I get something to the effect of:

So yeah...
I'm totally stumped now.
I feel like I've tried every method imaginable, but still no luck.
Printing from OSX 10.6.8 works just FINE.
On the server side, I'm running Windows Server 2008... there's only a local admin and a local user account.
Clients running OSX Lion 10.7.2 -- All updated.
Printer is an HP LaserJet P4010-4510 series.
Workstation is an iMac 21.5-inch, Late 2009
3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
Please help!!!
--- Richard

LPD print service is not enabled by default in Server 2008. It can be enabled via the Print Serveer role, but I am remote and cannot confirm the exact setting.
As for SMB, the error log is showing;
Failed to connect to "smb://<username>:<password>@utlab-prsrv-02/"
So it would suggest that there is still an issue with the account detail you are using as you show you have tried this syntax at one stage. If you want to continue to create the queue using SMB rather than LPD then I recommend using the CUPS web page (http://127.0.01:631) to create the queue. This will allow you to enter the syntax exactly as the error message shows. From previous testing I found it was okay to just use the account name rather than domain/account name on a domain bound server.

  • Unable to install SCCM client on Windows Server 2008 R2 - certificate permission error?

I am trying to comply with corporate policy, which is, have an SCCM agent or client on every Windows device. I have successfully used the provided SCCM installer on other Windows 2008 R2 servers. However for one particular server I cannot get the SCCM agent
to install successfully. I've searched forums and documentation, but can't find a solution. Part of the problem is the lack of feedback by SCCM on what is wrong. I think I have narrowed down the symptom to the following error messages from the "C:\Windows\CCM\Logs\ClientIDManagerStartup.log":
[LOG[Certificate [Thumbprint C559304C1598F17641D0732EB9EB787169A25FA7] issued to 'SMS' doesn't have private key or caller doesn't have access to private key.

When I use the Certificates MMC snap in to look at installed certs on this Windows Server 2008 R2 machine, there are plenty of normal and expected certificates there. There is also a branch called SMS with hundreds of entries, I have no idea what that is.
The above error seems to indicate a permissions issue. What do I do to fix this SCCM install? It seems like a server cert issue, not an SCCM issue, so I'm posting to the Windows Server forums.
    Thanks in advance.

  • File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks on Windows server 2008

    Hi Expert,
I found that the properties of File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks service disabled after I install the windows server 2008 64bits. I tried to install that service via adding the file and printer sharing services in the properties of local area connection, but it doesn't contain any service in the popup box.  Also, no such service file available in the disk when I tried to install the service from installation disk of windows server 2008 64bits. Is the file "sacsrv.dll" corresponding to the service name of file and printer sharing? I found it is in the directory of "Windows\system32".  I have no idea about where is the problem? Do I miss some components? Please tell me what can I do for it? Thanks!
    Best Wishes,

Do any experts know the reason of this problem?  Thanks!

  • Oracle 11g Client for Windows Server 2008 Relase2 Operating Stystem

    Hi,
I am having a server with Operating System as Windows Server 2008 R2 version 64 - bit.
I am using SSRS 2008 which is 64 bit, for retreiving the data from Oracle (which is 11g - 32 bit), I am unable to create data source for Oracle.
I had installed ODAC Components of Oracle 11.1.0.7.20 on the server, but still I am getting the following error:
"The 'OraOLEDB.Oracle.1' provider is not registered on the local machine."
Does any one know how to install Oracle Client 11g on Windows Server 2008 R2 Operating system?

    Helios,
It is wonderful that you are polite and encouraging to new people.
While you are responding, could you explicitly direct people to use the correct forum. This has at least 2 benefits:
    1) Ensures that the person gets the widest possible amount of assistance;
    2) Ensures that the rest of us do not need to waste time on improperly placed questions.
I suggest 'explicitly' since some people do not get the hint, and keep returning to the original thread.
This thread belongs in 'Database - General' or 'Database - Install'.

  • Oracle 8.1.7.3 client on Windows Server 2008 64bit

    Hi all!
I'm a newbie to Oracle and this forum, so please be gentle...:)
I'm trying to install Oracle 8.1.7.3 client on a 64bit Windows Server 2008, without success. Best result I got so far is 'installed' client and provider, but unable to run the config tools, or use the provider. I installed the same client on a 32bit version of Win Server 2008 and it worked with few minor tweaks.
Reason I'm doing this is trying to integrate an old legacy Oracle 7 database with SQL Server 2008 using linked servers.
Upgrading to a recent version is not an option.
Anyone has any guidelines? please help, this is driving me nuts!
    Thanx,
    Igor

The client is included. Download it and start the installation. It should give you an option to select 'client only'.

  • Laggy file operations windows 7 clients with windows server 2008 R2

Hope this is posted in the right place..
Ok so this is driving me insane...
    I have a DNS/file server running Windows Server 2008 R2, and 5 client pc's running windows 7 x64 and x86.
All the client PC's have extremely laggy file operations when for example right clicking to create a new folder or opening certain files (AutoCAD). Talking about 3-10 second lag for a response.
However if I do a straight file transfer to test the transfer speed its all normal. Everything is connected @ gigabit network speeds.
This just seemed to happen one day a few months ago, and has remained ever since. Before that (couple years) it was not doing this...
Anyone have any ideas, I'm at a loss... I've checked the performance monitor on the server nothing seems abnormal when this happens.
    Thank you,

    Hi,
Please test to disable all third party applications on file server to see if that is the cause. Sometimes such kind of issues are caused by antivirus program, firewall etc.
A quick step is to boot into Clean Boot mode as provided in following article:

  • Has anyone successfully gotten an HP Color Laserjet 2600n to print from OSX Lion?

I have it installed by IP address with the drivers that Apple Update provided. When I send a print job to it, the status shows that it's connected and printing and the little sideways barber pole is screwing away, but the job never prints. As a matter of fact, the printer never even starts its warm-up cycle. Has anyone gotten this printer to work on a bone stock OSX Lion 10.7 image?  This iMAC 27 is brand-freakin-new.
I have absolutely no printing issues from any of the 5 (cringe) - Windows 7 machines in the house.
Thanks for looking. I hope to have some helpful response soon.

KJameZzZ179 and  PAHU - I appreciate you guys taking the time out of your busy schedules to help me. I pinged the printer and it replied. I pulled up its web interface and the gateway and subnet settings matched the settings on my iMac.  I opened a PDF and sent it to the printer successfully. I don't know what the hold up was, and while I am glad that I can print now, I am equally disappointed that I wasn't able to find the root of the problem so we could provide an answer to anyone else in the future that might have had the same problem.  Thanks again for your responses and willingness to help.

  • IPP Printing from Linux or Mac to Windows server

I have windows server 2003 R2 ent with ipp printing installed. All windows clients are ale to connect, install and print to a shared printer via ipp. When connecting via a linux or mac machine, I am not able to print. I am asked for the creditionals to print but it does nothing.
The ipp server is set to accept authentication via Intergrated Windows Authentication. I had read this is compatible with firefox and other browsers.
Is there any particular settings I am missing on this one?
The goal is to require only domain users access to the printers.

    Hi,
    Thank you for posting here.
Since we can print from Windows clients properly, it indicates Windows Printing Server is working OK. Base on my research, we may have to setup a CUPS server so that Linux client communicate with CUPS Server and CUPS communicate with Windows Printer Server using IPP. For your reference:

I am in the same boat, I have downloaded what was told to download and it doesn't install it keeps saying "Unknown" 3 times in a popup when I try to install.Oracle has roughly 3,000 products. You downloaded 'what you were told' - one of those 3,000 products. And it didn't work.
The amount of information you provide is surprisingly sparse, assuming you want assistance.
So - if you want help, you might wnat to provide some information:
    - the operating system (including edition, and major service pack if WIndows, or distro && major/minor release and kernel if *nix)
    - the URL froim which you downloaded
    - the country yuo are in (since ORacle could redirect to several sitres based on region)
    - the command or executable, including directory path, you run or double-click on
    - the 'exact' error message, or if a generic one like "Unknown", perhaps a screen shot to convince us that it is actually such a generic message
It's just a suggestion, but answering in such detail actually tells us you are serious about resolving the issue - you put in effort, and that may convince us to return some effort.

  • Printing from OSX 10.2 to Windows HP Printer

I'm trying to set up my mac to print to my pc. I have the printer on the pc shared and I can print to it from my other pc. On my mac I have gone to the print center, option clicked add, gone to advanced, picked windows printer via samba, given the device a name (printer) and then in the device url I have put smb://192.168.1.2/printer (the name of the printer share on the windows machine). I had to leave the printer type as generic because it will not show the driver for the printer, even though I installed it.
When I try to print to this printer I get the same error, "Unable to connect to Samba host, will retry in 60 sec"
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    David

Have a look here and see if this might help you. The printer being shared is an HP, but I don't know if it's your model (you didn't mention the model name). The model shouldn't matter however.
    http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3003.html
If Gimp-Print does not have your driver, you might try Gutenprint which should, being as Gimp-Print/Gutenprint are almost one and the same. There should be a link on the Gimp-Print site, but if not, just do a Google search and you'll find it.
    Hope that helps.

  • Installing 64 bit client on Windows Server 2008

    Hi,
I'm trying to install an 11.2.0.2 64 bit client on my windows 2008 R2 server and its not going through. The install wizard completes, but when I click "install" it starts up the install and just closes in about 3 seconds installing nothing in the install directory.
We currently have a 32 bit 11.2.0.2 client installed on the server as well.
How can I get the 64 bit client to install properly?
I've tried running the setup.exe as admin, running it through cmd with ignore system prereqs, and giving the install folder full permissions to everyone

Pl confirm that you are installing using two separate ORACLE_BASE directories - one for 32-bit and the other for 64-bit.

  • ODAC vs oracle client on Windows server 2008

    Hello,
Apologies in advanced if this is a silly question.
I am currently working with a .NET application team that connects to oracle. I am attempting to host there application on my servers. I have tested connectivity to there DB with SQLplus using the 11.2 oracle client.
The application team is asking me to install Oracle Developer tools on the server to replace the client. One of the members of the operate team told me that this is a requirement for there application to talk to oracle. I don't necessarily think they are correct, are there any oracle dependence that would require to ODT to be installed to run a .net application on a server? It's my understanding that ODT is primary used as a plug in for VS.
    Thanks in advance,

You are correct that you do not need the Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio to be installed on the server. What the team is probably meaning to ask is for you to install "Oracle Data Provider for .NET" which is also part of the ODAC install. They probably got the two names mixed up.

  • How do I/can I install Windows 8 policies on a Windows Server 2008 system.

    Hi,
I'm currently working on a customer server that is running Windows Server 2008 R2. They are in the process of upgrading their machines to Windows 8.
The problem they have is they don't want all the extra tiles on the metro screen, so I've exported a template of how they want it to look. The problem I am having at the minute is installing the windows 8 group policy settings on their server, so that I can
set the start screen template for all domain machines.
How do I correctly install the Windows 8 policies on the system? I've got them downloaded as admx files from the MS website ready to go, but it's not as straight forward as I imagined.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kealan Riding-Smith

    Hello,
you can add the .admx and .adml file for the language to your policydefinitions folder BUT the GPMC must be used from the new OS instead Windows server 2008 R2.

  • Oracle 10g install on Windows server 2008 R2 ( 6.1 )

    Hi All,
I am trying to install Oracle 10g over windows server 2008 R2 (6.1) but it gives error that OS is not supported. I tried to install below version.
    Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4.0)
Enterprise/Standard Edition for Microsoft Windows Vista x64, Windows Server 2008 x64,
    Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 x64, Windows 7 x64
But it fails with error that OS version 6.1 is not supported. On download page it is written to get 10.2.0.5 patch from My Oracle support for windows server 2008 R2, I got patch p8202632_10205_MSWIN-x86-64 but it requires a pre-installed oracle home.
So how should I install Oracle 10g as 10.2.0.4 does not get installed and the patch asks for a previous install?
The reason I am installing Oracle 10g is that our Java application is running in production over JDK 1.4 and Oracle 11g does not provide JDBC driver for JDK 1.4, is there any JDBC driver for Oracle 11g that can work with JDK 1.4?
    Thanks in advance for help.
    Best Regards!
